SAKURA AND VERSACE
05
GLITTER EYES
"How the hell don't you have a single orange shirt, Sakura?!"
"Orange doesn't really suit my color palette too well," Sakura huffed at her friend but Karin scoffed with a shake of her head, "Seriously Sakura, what are you gonna wear?"
Shrugging, the girl turned back towards her bathroom mirror. She wanted to do more than just her regular ponytail but there wasn't much Sakura felt she could do with her short hair.
"Ponytail the top, allow the bottom to hang, then curl the ends." Karin says dispassionately from Sakura's closet. The rosette could tell just from her friend's voice she was losing hope. "I can always just ask my mom," Sakura says to appease her but the girl shakes her head.
"Not to be weird or anything but there's no way you're fitting any of her mother's tops with a c-cup." She says before dropping onto the bed. Sakura was far from offended by the comment seeming as Karin had a way of being blunt and having no filter. Anybody else would have sugar-coated it but Karin kept it straight to the point.
Sakura finishes her hair with little to no problem, only to run into the problem of deciding if she should wear makeup or not.
"Don't the athletes get letterman jackets?" Karin asks suddenly from the bed and Sakura racks her brain for a second before nodding, "I'm pretty sure they do, I saw Naruto with his one of these days."
"That's it, that's it!" Karin suddenly squealed, "Where's your phone, egghead." Rolling her eyes at the insult, Sakura pointed towards her dresser, "The charger." She can hear Karin get up and move around the room before the distinct sound of her phone unlocking fills her ears, "What's he saved under?"
"Naruto,"
Karin scoffed, "That's it? Just Naruto? He's your boyfriend Sakura, you gotta be more creative."
"He is not my boyfriend," The rosette said despite the heat rising in her cheeks. The thought had crossed her mind more than once but it wasn't one Sakura liked to entertain for more than a few seconds. She didn't live in a chick flick, jocks and nerds just didn't mix. No matter how much Sakura would've liked them to.
"You can lie to yourself, maybe even to some of those airheads at school, but not to me and not to Naruto," Karin cooed to her, "Especially since you're allowing him to call you babe in these text messages."
"Karin!" Sakura screeches but her friend only laughed, "Say what you want pinkie but you never told him not to call you that."
"Luckily for you, we need to get you ready, unluckily for you I have your phone number so I can tease you more later," Karin smiled happily before focusing back on the phone. Sakura stepped out of the bathroom, done with her hair and light makeup. "What exactly are you asking him anyway?"
"For his jacket, you can wear that over your shirt and shorts, please tell me you at least have some all black shoes?"
"Yeah, but I don't think wearing his jacket is a good idea. I don't want anybody to get the wrong idea." Sakura shuffles through her closet, "Naruto and I aren't together, the last thing I need is for anybody to think that."
"Good thing we aren't worrying about what anybody else thinks, Naruto says he'll be waiting for you with the jacket." Karin gives a smug grin as Sakura struggles to keep her mouth from dropping. He had actually agreed?!
"Don't look so surprised, Sakura. You know you want to, " Karin teased as she pushed her from the closet to grapple through the clothes herself, "Now put this tube top on and find some shorts. You're gonna knock the cleats off Naruto when he sees you, I'm gonna make sure of it!"
MOON RIVER
More than a few people had turned at the sight of Sakura, no doubt not used to seeing so much of her skin exposed. Somehow Sakura had allowed Karin to talk her into wearing the aforementioned tube top and shorts. Her favorite chain was around her neck and a pair of dirty untied Vans were on her feet.
Karin had disappeared once she'd noticed her boyfriend, Suigetsu, standing near the food vendors. "I'll see you in the stands!" She had screamed before vanishing into the ever growing crowd.
Konoha High's parking lot was filled with students colored in blacks, reds, and oranges. Sakura could immediately tell the opposing sides apart, if not the painted clouds on people's cheeks and foreheads, it was the underlying tension. The two schools had been at each other's throats for years, this was just one of the times they got to present it in a non-violent way.
Ignoring the cat-calls Sakura came to a halt at the team's locker room, Naruto stood in front of the door, the acclaimed jacket in his hands. "Hi," She waves shyly as Naruto smiles brightly at her. His own eyes widening as he took her in.
"Wow, look at you," He smiled in that special way of his, "I'm actually upset I can't be in the stands...with you." Sakura's lips pulled into a smile. She didn't know if that was a compliment, but it felt like one. So she'd take it, "Thank you?"
"No problem," Naruto says easily before offering her the jacket in his hands, "You asked and you shall receive."
"Are you sure?" Sakura questioned as she fingered one of the leather sleeves. She could even faintly smell Naruto's cologne, but maybe she was just smelling him, seeming as he was so close. He smelled like ramen, and pine, and just something that was distinctly his.
"Ne Sakura-Chan, I'm positive." Naruto smiles, throwing the jacket around her shoulders but not letting the piece of clothing go. "You'll cheer me on, yeah?"
"Always."
MOON RIVER
Sakura knew next to nothing about baseball, luckily Suigetsu had only been mildly annoyed every time she asked what was happening. Fortunately she was a quick learner and quickly got a hold of the basics of the game. She cheered when Sasuke made a homerun and booed when Akatsuki got on the field. She cheered when Naruto stepped on the field and screamed when he made the game winning homerun.
All in all Sakura could say she had fun, even if she had been hesitant about showing up. Now an hour later, she was shoving nachos into her mouth as she sat on the hood of Naruto's car in the parking lot.
"Thank you again for coming," Naruto says from beside her, finishing off his own funnel cake and throwing away the container that it had come in. Sakura shrugged, "No problem and you were right, I had fun."
"I knew you would,"
"You could've told me there would be so much confetti and glitter," Sakura huffed, eyeing the orange glitz stuck to her arm, "It's gonna take more than one shower to get it all off."
Naruto laughed, deep and rich and everything wonderful, before reaching over to swipe the glitter from her cheek but only succeeding in smudging it. Shifting, Sakura allowed Naruto to stand between her legs as he continued to "wipe" her face.
"You're only making it worse," Sakura laughs but stops when she notices how serious Naruto looked. Was something wrong, had she done something wrong? Everything had been fine only a few moments ago. "What? What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just- Can I kiss you?"
Sakura blinked up at him, "What?"
"Can I kiss you?"
Her vision swam as her heart sped up, Naruto invaded all of her senses, everything about him blocking out anything that wasn't in their bubble. "I- yes. Yes you can kiss me Naruto."
Her first kiss, she was giving her first kiss to Naruto Namikaze at one of his baseball games, covered in glitter and confetti. But it was so nice, everything about the situation was amazing.
The kiss was only a few seconds but it was enough time for Sakura to completely and utterly lose herself in Naruto. Pulling back was harder than Sakura would've thought, but she does just enough to get some air into her lungs.
In front of her Naruto breathed heavily as his lips pulled into a smile, "You have no idea how much I've wanted to do that."
The confidence comes quickly and Sakura acts on it before she can think about it, "Show me then."
