Chapter 13

Castiel and Meg were standing to the side as Dean and Sam stepped through the shimmering just before it disappeared.

Sam suddenly threw his arm over his face and cried out in pain as he stumbled backwards and sought the shade of a tree nearby. "Too bright! Too bright!" Sam whined in a rough, hoarse, almost unrecognizable voice. He coughed and groaned when the unsettling pain of hunger gnawed in his gut making him hunch over as he clutched his middle. He was panting hard and squeezing his eyes shut from the bright sunlight. It was midafternoon, and the sun was sinking in the western sky.

"Sammy, hey man, are you okay?" Dean asked as he approached his suffering brother.

"Stay back!" Sam demanded, glancing up at him. He could hear the beating of Dean's heart as it pumped warm, enticing, blood throughout his body. Sam started salivating with just the thought of the thick, red blood that was only a couple of feet away. He looked back at his brother with blood shot eyes that showed hunger and need. Before anyone could stop him, Sam launched himself at Dean, sending them to the ground with a hard thump.

"Sammy!" Dean growled as he held Sam at bay as he tried to snap and bite him. "Damnit dude, this isn't you. You've got to control it. You can't drink my blood man!"

Castiel ran to their side and physically jerked Sam off Dean and tossed him backwards on his butt.

"Are you okay Dean?" he inquired helping him up.

"No, no you don't want to do that," Meg told Sam as she stepped on his chest to keep him down.

"Gabriel, we're back and could use your help," Castiel prayed as he looked around to see where they were.

"Well, well, you seem to be in one piece," Gabriel commented after he appeared nearby sucking a lollipop.

"Can you get us to the cabin? I need to make a cure for Sam," Dean told him in an urgent voice.

"Dean-o, no thank you, or good to see you dude?"

"Gabriel, please, Sam was fed vampire blood, he needs the cure," Castiel begged.

"Cassie, little brother," Gabriel chastised him. "Did you forget what you learned when you were a fledging?"

"I don't understand."

"Hey kiddo, looks like you weren't as careful as you should have been," Gabriel addressed Sam who was struggling on the ground. "Let him up."

Meg stepped back and released Sam, watching carefully as he scrambled to his feet and sized his opposition up. He zeroed in on the only human there, knowing he was food, and his hunger was unbearable. Sam started to step toward Dean again but was suddenly froze in place when Gabriel snapped his fingers. He tried to scream but only gurgling and whining sounds came out only making him angrier.

Gabriel strolled over to Sam and looked him over, seeing the hatred and hunger in his eyes. H reached up and gripped Sam's head between his hands and concentrated on releasing his grace into his body. His eyes began to glow blue and so did Sam's eyes when he abruptly screamed in agony.

"What are you doing to him?" Dean yelled as he started to step toward them.

"No, Dean. Don't touch them," Castiel cautioned him, taking his arm to stop him from interfering.

Sam's only desire was to feed the intense hunger that was eating away at his very soul so it would stop. He didn't pay any attention to the others, except for the one that had the hot blood flowing in his veins. He only took one step when suddenly he couldn't move a muscle. Sam tried everything to break free but couldn't do it. He watched the archangel walking to him and stopping in front of him. He tried to move away when Gabriel raised his hands and placed them on the sides of his head.

A jolt like a lightning bolt seemed to run through his body and it felt like his insides were on fire. He locked eyes with the angel and screamed when the grace poured into his body, seeking out the evil that was inside him. His body shook uncontrollably as sweat soaked his entire body until without warning, Sam fell to his hands and knees and began to vomit out foul, black mucus and liquid. He stayed on the ground, puking and gagging until nothing came out but strings of saliva that hung from his mouth.

"Okay, taken care of," Gabriel announced slapping his hands together. "He's all good, just give him a few minutes to get it all out. Whew! That is some foul-smelling crap."

"Hold on, are you saying you cleansed his blood?" Dean asked looking at Sam for a moment.

"Yeah, it's the only way."

"Did you fully cleanse it?" Dean questioned more intently thinking of any demon blood that might still be lingering in Sam. "Of everything?"

"Of course, he's all spic and span clean now."

"Thank you," said Dean being as sincere as he could. He gabbed Gabriel in a big hug, picking him off his feet.

"Whoa there, Dean-o! Watch the merchandise here," Gabriel complained trying to get out of his grip. He smoothed his suit with his hands when Dean released him but couldn't help smirking at him.

"Where are we?" Dean asked as he hurried to his brother's side and knelt beside him, placing a hand on his neck. He could feel waves of heat coming off Sam, like he was on fire. His clothes were clinging to his body, soaked in sweat.

"I'm surprised by that. I wasn't sure where you'd come out when Sam did the spell. You're only a couple of miles from that cabin Sam is staying at."

"Cabin, you mean Rufus's cabin. Is that it, Sammy?"

Sam only nodded since he couldn't talk yet as he pulled large amounts of air into his lungs and spit a few more times. His whole body was jerking in spasms from what it went through, and he felt completely drained.

"Can you take us there? I need to take care of Sammy."

"I guess," Gabriel sighed, snapping his fingers and making them all appear outside the cabin. "Is this close enough? Oh, by the way, I filled the fridge with food and beer, so why don't you guys take a break and relax. I left you something in the living room to entertain you at least, I'm not sure about Samsquash if he's into to that or not."

"Thanks, I didn't expect that," Dean replied wondering if Gabriel might actually feel a little sorry what for he put Sam through years ago and was trying to make up for it. "Come on Sammy, let's get you inside," Dean mumbled to his brother as he helped him to his feet and supported him when he started to waver.

He tried to guide him to the couple of steps and stumbled up them with Sam in tow. He got them inside and glanced to the left to see a new television with a DVD player attached and a tall stack of DVDs beside it. He eased Sam that way to see what they were and grinned when he read the names of them, the complete series of Casa Erotica porn. "I've got some movies to watch Sammy, but first let's get you cleaned up and in bed. I'm sure we can find something for you to do to pass the time." Dean guided them down the hall and into the bathroom not getting a reply from Sam. "Can you get a shower Sammy? Or do you need my help?"

"I'm fine," Sam croaked out in a raspy voice. He leaned against the sink to steady himself while Dean when to get him some clean clothes.

"I'm letting you shower first, but you better save me some hot water," Dean told him dropping clothes on the counter. "If you need me, I'll be nearby."

"Okay." Sam turned the water on and waited for Dean to leave before slowly stripping out of his dirty clothes.

"I haven't forgotten you," Dean mumbled as he rubbed his arm that was throbbing now with the vampire's soul. "Just give me a little time."

"And as for you, Cassie, I think you need a little upgrade," Gabriel told him. "While all of you were playing around in the petri dish, I went to one of Dad's secret storerooms and helped myself to a few tidbits."

"What upgrades?" Castiel questioned.

"Just stand still little brother, I think you will like this." Gabriel stepped to him and laid his hands on Castiel's shoulders before speaking in Enochian, keeping a tight grip on him.

Castiel grunted in pain when unexpectedly he felt something happening to his back. He could feel pain in two specific spots like something was trying to break free. He looked at Gabriel in shock when a pair of wings appeared behind Castiel, spreading out and moving slightly. He looked over his shoulders and flexed them their full wingspan, getting the stiffness out of them. He fanned them for a moment and then held them still, feeling the soft breeze touch them and ruffle some feathers. He could sense his powers were stronger now and felt like his old self once again.

"Now that was interesting," Meg commented looking at the wings. "Wasn't expecting that." They were a tawney brown with hues of a softer brown at the bottom. The inside was creamy and soft looking, and every feather laid in perfect order. They looked so soft and delicate that she wanted to touch them but was afraid to. She pretended they were stroking her bare skin and shivered just thinking about it.

"Brother," Castiel gasped in disbelief. He folded his wings out of sight and beamed happily. "Thank you. Thank you."

"Awe, it wasn't anything Cassie. You deserve to have your wings back along with your powers since you are going to need both to keep those lug heads out of trouble or pull their asses out of the fire," Gabriel replied with a wave of his hand.

"I don't think the brothers need you right now Clarence. What say we go get a motel room and move some furniture around," Meg told him. "And you're going to get some pizza."

Castiel looked down at Meg and saw the mischief and desire in her eyes as he let what she said sink in.

"Whoa Cassie; I don't think I would turn that down," Gabriel preened as he laughed at him.

"Tell Sam and Dean, I will be back," Castiel told Gabriel as he pulled Meg to his side, and they took flight.

"Way to go Cassie," Gabriel grinned before going inside to find Dean thumbing through the movies.

"How many of these did you produce?" Dean asked him, looking up at Gabriel.

"A lot," Gabriel shrugged. "You'll have to let me know your favorite."

"There is one more thing I need to do, but I don't want to leave Sammy alone. I need to go to Louisiana and dig up some bones."

"So, that's your passenger you're toting around? Are you sure about that? You could just dump the soul and let it wither and die."

"I'm sure. I made a deal and I'm a man of my word. He helped me in Purgatory, and I owe him."

"Well, Dean-o, I can get you to Louisiana and it'll depend on how long it'll take you to dig the bones how long you'll be gone."

"Let me get Sammy into bed and grab a couple of things from the Impala. Where's Cas and Meg? They could stay with Sam."

"I think they're going to be tied up for a while and I mean literally," Gabriel snickered. "I'll stay with Samsquash for you. I'm starting to warm up to him, and not in the bad way."

"Guess you're all I've got," Dean sighed. "Once Sammy's in bed, he'll probably sleep through the night. No funny business or any shit, okay?"

"I'm offended Dean-o, that you would even think that," Gabriel scoffed like he was offended.

"Do you really want me to answer that?"

"Dad's honest truth, I would not do anything to your brother. I know in the past we had our…Differences. But like I said, I'm beginning to like you guys. You're interesting and you've taken care of Cassie over the years. He's actually better for it."

"Well, he's family now and family takes care of their own." Dean looked toward the hallway when he heard the bathroom door open and saw Sam step out. "I'll be right back." He headed back down the hall to check on him. "Sammy, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Sam replied.

"Why don't you go lay down for a while? I need to run an errand and get rid of my passenger."

"Okay, I am tired," Sam agreed stepping into a bedroom and going over to his bed. He sat down on it but wouldn't look at Dean. "I'm sorry Dean."

"What?" Dean asked. "Oh, you mean where you tried to suck my blood? Forget it, you weren't in your right mind. Gabriel is going to stay here with you until I get back."

"I don't need a babysitter," Sam pouted as he pinched his lips together. "I'm not a child."

"Yeah, I know that, but just in case. I need to get this bastard out of me before he drives me nuts."

"Fine. I'm going to lay down." Sam stood and pulled the covers back before crawling under them and laying down. He moved around before settling on his side as exhaustion seemed to take over. He didn't say anything when Dean stepped closer and tucked the covers around him and stroked his head before turning to leave.

"Okay, Sammy's all tucked in, I just need to get a few things to take with me." Dean stepped outside and walked to the Impala and around to the trunk. He opened it and opened the false bottom to get a bag to put in a foldup shovel, a knife, and gun. He checked the load in the gun before putting it into the bag. He started to close it but grabbed a pair of gloves to add to the bag and then closed the false bottom and trunk lid. Dean shouldered the bag and went back inside. "I need to go to Clayton, Louisiana, and will pray to you when I'm done," Dean told Gabriel.

"Alright Dean-o," Gabriel said. He snapped his fingers and Dean disappeared from the living room. Gabriel dropped onto the couch and snapped his fingers making the television come on and a porn movie started playing. He snapped them again and got a large drink and a big bowl of candy to munch on. "Oh, yeah, she knows how to move that body," he commented as he popped candy in his mouth.

Dean stumbled and cussed as he tried to get his balance and not fall. He hated to move by angel transport but knew this was the fastest way to get to where he needed to be. He looked around and saw he was in was in the countryside and repositioned his pack before heading toward an abandoned farmhouse. He walked out into what used to be an orchard and found the tree Benny described to him.

Once he got his bearings, and found the right direction, Dean began to step off the number of steps and stopped, looking down at the ground.

"I hope to god this is the right place asshole," Dean mumbled dropping the pack and pulling out the shovel. He opened it up and drove it into the ground, using the heel of his left foot to make it go deeper. He shoveled dirt, making a hole that got bigger and deeper. Dean stopped and took off his jacket and wiped the sweat from his face. He continued until the first bone was uncovered and bend down to wipe the dirt away revealing more bones.

"Okay, I hope this works," Dean panted as he reached down to pull the knife from the pack. He pushed his shirt sleeve up and made a slice across his lower arm and let the swirling reddish yellow liquid fall onto the bones. He recited the ritual, 'Anima corpori. Fuerit corpus totem resurgent.' Dean stepped back and the bones began to arrange themselves and flesh started to cover them until the body of Benny Lafitte pulled himself from the hole.

"Everything working old man?" Dean asked as Benny rolled his shoulders and popped his neck.

"I believe so Chief. As well as can be expected," Benny replied, brushing the dirt from his clothes.

"I expect you to keep your nose clean Benny. I don't want to have to hunt you down and send you back."

"I hear you Chief. I know how to stay hidden."

"I guess this is it then," Dean sighed. "We made it man! I can't believe it."

"Me either. Why don't you get back to that brother of yours, I'm sure he needs you right now?"

"Alright, you've got my number if you need anything."

"Good luck Chief."

"You too Benny." Dean gave him a brief hug and handshake before stepping away. "Gabriel, you can bring me back now." Before he could say anything else, Dean disappeared and appeared the living room of the cabin. "Damn! I'm never going to get use to that." He looked up when the sounds of moaning and someone having sex filled the living room. "What the hell are you watching?"

"Hey, I had to entertain myself somehow," Gabriel replied.

"Well, I'm back so, you can go do whatever it is you do."

"Good, there are several hot models that need my undivided attention. And Dean, how about you and your brother try to stay out of trouble in the future because next time I might not be around to save you." Gabriel snapped his fingers and disappeared from the room, leaving Dean standing alone with the movie still playing. He found the remote and switched the television off before heading down the hall.

Dean stopped at Sam's bedroom and went inside to check on him. He was snoring softly, laying on his back with his mouth hanging slightly open. Very carefully, he felt Sam's forehead to be sure he wasn't running a fever and brushed his hair out of his face. Once he saw Sam was okay, he headed to the bathroom for a long awaited shower of his own.

When he was done, Dean when into the other bedroom and crawled into bed thinking how good it felt to sleep in a bed and shut the world out for now, thinking they deserved a short break and was going to see they got it. The world would keep turning whether they were out there fighting monster or not. They had done enough for the world to warrant taking some down time. Tomorrow would be another day….
