Worth the Wait
(This is a micro mini ficlet, but it's actually one of the favourite things I've written so I had to include it)
He was worth the wait.
He had built a wall out of 14 years of hidden and repressed thoughts and feelings and emotions. Never fully letting them out, tucked away from the light of day, secured from prying eyes.
Oh but when that avalanche broke it was mesmerising to experience.
Harvey loved big, with every crevice of his heart. His love was overwhelming and fulfilling, it settled over her like a warm blanket, wrapped securely around her shoulders.
It was solid and present and all encompassing. It was certain.
His was a love in its fullest and purest form, held tight in his heart for years like precious treasure until it was finally allowed to be set free.
It soaked her to the core, seeping into the marrow of her bones, running through the blood in her veins, permeating the air in her lungs and echoing in every beat of her heart.
He showed it small, a chair gradually inched closer and closer in a restaurant, and he showed it large, a proposal and wedding in one day filled with words so deep and honest and true. He showed it in every way that mattered.
He made her whole.
He made her complete.
He was worth the wait.
Everything
(another super tiny ficlet, so going to tack it on the end here)
Harvey once claimed they had everything
Until he felt her lips beneath his and her body pressed against him and her moans filling his ears.
Until she smiled at him and promised she wasn't going to leave him as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Until he slid his grandmother's ring on her finger and called her his wife.
Until the two pink lines appeared on the plastic test.
Until he felt the kicks and movement under his palms as they rested on the swell of her stomach.
Until the impossibly tiny baby was placed in his arms and their little hand wrapped around his finger.
Until he held the perfect weight of their toddler in his arms and heard them say "I love you Daddy."
Then Harvey knew that they truly did have everything.
