Before Forever
(Set in 9x10 and inspired by on the beautiful drawing by Dina (canopener206 on twitter))
They were early, much earlier than they needed to arrive, and Harvey couldn't help but send Donna a pointed look as they wandered the grounds of the wedding venue. Harvey could see Louis wildly gesticulating about something in the distance, shouting and directing the wedding planners around as they added the finishing touches to the ceremony set up. He might have been the best man but Harvey wanted no part of that current situation, instead guiding Donna towards a gazebo located in the far corner of the property.
She sunk down on the stone steps, carefully arranging the full skirt of her dress around her, smiling up at him. She looked so beautiful today Harvey thought as he dropped down next to her. He pressed his body close against hers, arm sliding around her back and fingers stroking over her hip.
"I told you we had time," he said, knowing his voice sounded a little sulky.
"You're an idiot," Donna responded with an affectionate roll of her eyes.
He pouted at her until an idea popped into his head. "Maybe we could go find somewhere now."
"Harvey," she laughed, "We are not sneaking off to having sex in some broom closet right before the ceremony."
"So you're saying after then?" He joked, raising an eyebrow at her.
She tilted her head up to him, giving him a wink, "I'm not saying that, but I'm also not not saying that," and Harvey felt an instant flash of heat flood his body.
God she was perfect he thought. And not because she'd just agreed to a mid-wedding rendezvous with him. But simply because she was Donna. She was everything he never knew to ask for, truly his perfect match.
Not just physically but in every way that mattered. She matched him in wit and humour and intelligence, she was a calming hand when needed or a gentle but insistent push if required instead. She filled in his missing pieces, showing him the need for compassion and empathy and forgiveness. All while making his skin tingle at just the sight of her, tantalising him like a fantasy with her golden hair, milky skin and perfect figure.
Sometimes when Harvey woke in the middle of the night, curving himself back around her soft warm body, he often found himself thinking that Donna was perfectly, wonderfully meant for him that he wonders if he did not dream her into existence. He still couldn't quite believe she was here with him, that after all this time they had finally made it.
He glided a hand across her cheek, threading it into her hair. "I love you," he whispered softly, lips closing over hers.
"I love you too," she murmured and he felt her hand reach up, her fingers intertwining with his.
Harvey rested his head against hers, soaking in the moment. He could feel the weight of the ring sitting in his pocket, the ring destined for her finger. He had kept it with him ever since he opened his mother's letter.
He couldn't wait until he had a chance to give it to her. He couldn't wait to make her his wife.
