Overheard
(Set 7.10 - Harvey overhears Donna's conversation with Mike.)
He hears her say 'Harvey and I don't want to be together' but there's something in her voice that breaks and he knows in that moment she's lying.
It punches him low in the gut, and he thinks how pointless all the rules and the boundaries and the lies were when they both ended up exactly where they tried never to be. Because that crack in Donna's voice, it cracked something inside him as well, and Harvey suddenly feels like he's coming up for air for the first time in months. Clarity he discovers feels a little like a punch in the face.
He leaves the office immediately, finds Paula at her house and ends it. Ends what he never should have started in the first place.
And then he's running, racing through the evening city streets, feeling the tug of her presence, like a beacon in the dark.
He finds her in her office, leaning against the window ledge, looking pensive and lost and confused and more than anything, looking like his everything.
She stands as he enters and he steps up to her, presses his body flush against hers and slides his lips over hers. Soft, gentle, tentative and then firmer when she sighs into his mouth.
"I'm sorry Donna, I just had to know."
