A/N: You know I don't usually write holiday specials, but this idea got stuck in my head.
I'm probably not going to update often during Inuvember. I lost Trial by Stone, so all my energy in the next week will go to keeping up with the even and writing another piece with skekEkt in it.

Halloween

It was a peaceful autumn day. Mists were rolling downhills, obscuring the view even for youkai. The village seemed to be surrounded by a sea of gray and white. The mist also swallowed sounds, making the land choking silent, even when there was nothing wrong going on.

The villagers were mostly staying in their homes, even kids not running around in favor of playing inside, because it was too chilly and wet. Everyone seemed a bit sluggish as they were performing indoors activities. Some used the lazy day to visit friends and engage in a discussion and a cup of warming tea.

Only a pair of individuals (and a kappa sitting with his feet in a puddle of water nearby) were outside - a young girl and a daiyoukai. To everyone from outside of the village the sight of them two sitting on a bench under the wall of one of the huts would be bizarre. The girl looked pretty, but plain, while the youkai lord was anything but. His face was calm, golden eyes focused on the hands of the girl sewing together pieces of rags in various shades of violet.

He was silent while his companion babbled happily, explaining to him why she was making this witch hat. The daiyoukai marveled at the odd customs of the place his sister-in-law hailed from. But Rin - and other young humans he didn't care about - was excited about having a party and dress up as one of the characters from Kagome's stories.

Anything that made his (pup) ward happy was good in his eyes.

Of course he wouldn't admit it aloud, but his body language and attitude gave it away to anyone who could notice those little shifts in his youki and pose.

This specific party the young humans were going to have made him thinking. They were going to exchange sweets and scare themselves in a harmless way as a way to amuse themselves. It wasn't a youkai thing to do - the whole harmless part - but he guessed scaring others could be pretty amusing.

He, the daiyoukai lord, decided to give this whole Halloween thing a go.

So, when Rin stopped talking, too focused on stitching the fabrics, he rose to his feet and entered his brother's den.

A few seconds later shrieks of utter terror rose from the hut and Rin glanced up, frowning. As she glanced towards the doorway, Lord Sesshomaru emerged from inside, a wide, fanged grin on his face. Through the opened door the girl glimpsed an unconscious Sango, Miroku hidden in the corner and trembling, Kagome and Inuyasha huddled to each other in the other end of the hut., hiding behind a pillow held in the hanyou's clutches. All three conscious people had wide, frantic eyes darting here and there as if in a vain attempt to find an escape route.

Jaken sighed and nodded.

"Yes, witnessing the smile of the unholy ruler of the West can do it to you," he muttered, simply happy he wasn't on the receiving end of the most stunning - and terrifying - smile in Japan.
