My man

It was a rather gloomy day, clouds were covering the sky and rain falling almost all the time. It was one of the days the gang decided not to travel further than the first suitable shelter. Even Inuyasha didn't want to chance being caught in the cold rain, unless they had a shard rumor to check out.

This particular day they didn't have any leads, so they were camping in a care, using the time to fix their gear, play games and rest. Kagome also did her homework.

At some point in the day they had a surprise visit from Kouga. The wolf came running, gave Kagome some flowers, compliments and advice to dump the mutt. Inuyasha didn't appreciate that, so he punched the other man and got sat. Then Kouga laughed, teased Inuyasha a bit more and left as he had come, running into the drizzling rain outside.

The hanyou went sulking for a while near the cave entrance, while Kagome was unhappy about the whole situation, because Kouga was only a good friend and her crush was acting way too violent.

The usual. Nothing new.

Yet, today was not going to follow the usual pattern.

This time they had an additional audience. someone, who didn't like what they saw. And since recently didn't want the hanyou to suffer. Even it the cause oft his suffering was terrible communication skill on both sides of the romance.

Not even an hour passed since Kouga's visit. They were playing cards, joking and laughing, even Inuyasha was done pouting and was sitting with them, a bunch of cards in his cloned hands. No one actually even thought twice about Kouga's visit, already forgotten. After all, the wolf was often coming to see Kagome, even after Mt. Hakurei.

That was when a soul collector flew in and above their heads. Everyone paused and stared at the creature.

"Uh-oh," said Shippou.

"Uh-oh, indeed,"I agreed Miroku in the same tone of voice. Just when the two hot heads were back to normal, that being had to come around

Inuyasha put his cards down and stood up with a heavy sigh, his ears droopy.

"I guess..." he started looking at Kagome who had a suspiciously stoic face and downcast gaze.

"Yeah, I guess..." she muttered. "It's better to check what she wants..."

A gust of wind filled the cave with the smell of a grave that only the non-human members of the gang could smell.

Everyone looked to the entrance. surprised to see the undead miko standing there, she rarely came to their camps,' usually she just waited for Inuyasha to come to her.

"Lady Kikyou," Miroku said. "What...?"

She ignored him and walked to stand in front of Inuyasha' grabbing his hands in her cold fingers. She had a glint of determination in her eye and an expression on her face that no one had seen before. Inuyasha looked at her in confusion.

"Hey, Inuyasha," she grinned. It looked a bit unsettling. "How is my man?"

"Uh..." Inuyasha managed, blinking.

"Um, Kikyou..." Kagome looked up at the other miko, who didn't look away from Inuyasha, still smiling this too wide smile.

"Don't bark, girl. can't you see that I'm talking to my man?" Kikyou said in a sing song tone of voice. Sango looked worried between them two, Miroku scratching his head in confusion at the odd behavior of the usually aloof woman. Shippou just growled his tiny growl.

"Listen..." Sango started, but was ignored.

"Oh, Inuyasha, I have something for you!" Kikyou let go of his hands and pulled out of her sleeve a bunch of wild flowers. She put them in Inuyasha's limp fingers. "Here, handsome, for you. Do you like them?"

Inuyasha blushed at being called handsome, then blinked down at the flowers.

"Uh, Kikyou, I'm not exactly a flower person," he said, a bit weakly. Kagome's brow twitched.

"No? Oh, then next time I'll bring something else," Kikyou stated.

"Uh, thanks...?"

"You sound a bit faint. Are you unwell? Is the girl not taking care of my man as she should be?"

"Hey!" Kagome glared, while Inuyasha tried to make sense of what was happening.

"You know, you should dump her fat posterior and join me," Kikyou exclaimed. "I can take care of you and we can hunt Naraku together! I'm much better than this half-trained girl over there."

"Shut up!" Kagome finally snapped and stood up. Kikyou wasn't going to seduce Inuyasha into going with her! She couldn't just come and act like this, like she had a valid claim on him! It was clear that the only reason he was silent was because he was too stunned to tell her off, that's why Kagome had to do it. And defend her honor, too, Kikyou's words were untrue. She was a good priestess and took care of him while Kikyou was gods knew where.

"I'm taking care of him just fine! I treat his wounds and cook for him, and spend time with him, and... and... You can't just waltz in and speak like this, like he's yours!"

Finally Kikyou looked at her with her usual calm expression.

"But that wolf can." she said flatly.

Kagome opened her mouth to say something. Inuyasha scratched his neck.

"Kikyou, uh... Well... I thought you no longer..." he stumbled over his words.

"Oh, don't worry, Inuyasha. I no longer harbor this kind of feelings towards you. Still, we re friends," Kikyou said with a wave of a hand. She smiled kindly for the first time this afternoon, looking at Kagome, then at the staring audience. "I think my point has been proven here. I shall take my leave now."

A bunch of soul collectors flew in and wrapped around her. They carried her away before anyone could say anything.

"What just happened?" asked Shippou, but no one of the adults responded.

This evening, when the sky cleared, Kagome removed Inuyasha's beads. When Kouga came back to their cave to spend some time with 'his woman', because he had nothing better to do, Kagome dragged Inuyasha out for a sunset walk, telling the puzzled wolf to play cards with the rest of the gang, who were obviously in a very good mood.

"What just happened?" Kouga asked the monk, slayer and kitsune, causing them to laugh.

Somewhere nearby a pair of dead, but kind eyes watched a couple walking along one of the tiny streams running through the field.

Finally, she showed who was her man.
