Lizzie's POV
We finally had a destination, the ship was ready to set sail and we weren't wasting any time so after Sophie had spilled and taken the hat leaving the Chip Shoppe probably for the first and last time cheers erupted throughout the crew before we indulged in a pre-celebratory drinks of seaweed soda.
The next morning we were set to sail, Harry and the crew had gotten the ship seaworthy meaning it was time to start our adventure and finally time to leave my mother, Uma and I decided last night to live on the ship permanently meaning we didn't have to suffer at the hands of our mothers, we could take nothing from no one and I was no longer going to be my mother's servant, I hadn't informed my mother of my choice so I knew I was no doubt going to face her wrath sooner than later and would probably be meeting her pimps the moment I was back but I didn't care, I was finally going to be free.
I smiled into the broken mirror in my bedroom as I secured my hat on my head letting my hair fall down in their natural waves, I went to the Curl Up & Dye last night after the festivities and had little Dizzy fix my hair adding even more red streaks through my natural black hair and I loved it even more, the girl was an absolute genius in hair designs and accessories, she'd even done my nails with a cool heart and crown design the only downside to her was that she was friends with the backstabber Evie, I could've done my new look myself at my Mom's saloon but doing my own hair was a nightmare sometimes.
I'd pulled out some new clothes that I made out of old clothes from the barges and a few scraps of fabric I'd brought in the bazaar, my jeans were black on the right leg and a red and black checkered pattern on the other leg with straps of red and black leather I'd salvaged from an old arm chair which I was hanging loosely from the belt loops, I paired it with a black heart neckline strapless top with a matching red and black checkered waistcoat over it with a new leather jacket which I'd also made from the red leather arm chair and I'd hand painted my logo on the back, a 'Q' with a heart crown on top surrounded by an even bigger heart symbolizing my parentage, it was my roots and in the end it was who I was so it was the symbol I wore on all my jackets.
I grabbed an old red and black knapsack that I'd made with leftover leather fabric I'd made some clothes out of and started loading up my entire wardrobe into it since I didn't have that many clothes, packed my jewelry and any other stuff that I wanted to take with me since I didn't plan on coming back anytime soon then started walking out of my room shutting the door locking it with a key only I had and headed for the front door with my knapsack slung over my shoulder.
"Where do you think you're going?" I stopped, my hand just hovering over the doorknob on the front door.
"Uh..." I paused unsure of what to say as I turned around to face her, the scowl on her face made the wrinkles more prominent on her face as her eyes blazed with anger but aside from her I saw two of her goons standing behind her, one with a painted club on his forehead and the other had a black spade.
"SILENCE!" she screamed and I instinctively flinched in fear anticipating wrath more than her voice, I avoided eye contact running my hands nervously over my jeans. "Look up, speak nicely and DON'T TWIDLE YOUR HANDS!" my posture instantly corrected itself standing upright looking directly at her and hands at my side.
"Mother-"
"Excuse me-"
"Sorry your majesty-"
"Do not speak back!" she yelled raising her hand in the air and my head snapped to the side feeling the sharp sting from her backhand. "You're to go upstairs, remove that ridiculous pirate hat and sword and put on attire appropriate of a princess!" her face had begun to go red and I shrunk backwards fearing her even more in this state of fury rolling off from her but it was now or never, if I didn't stand up to my mother now I never would.
"No, this is who I am!" I yelled back shocking her for a spilt second before her face began turning bright red and that used to be enough to scare the absolute crap out of me but I had to remain strong.
"YOU DO AS I SAY!"
"No I don't, this is who I am mother and if you don't like that then I'll leave and you never have to see me again"
"You will not!"
"You don't have a say, I am a pirate and I'll never be a princess so deal with it!" I turned grabbing the doorhandle but was suddenly shoved against the door my nose smacking against the wooden door before the beating started, I fell to the ground in a fetal position trying to protect my face as much as I could as her goons carried out my mother's bidding beating my body raw.
"You want to slum with those fish mongers, go ahead but from this moment on your no daughter of a queen!" she yelled storming off and I laid where I was, my whole body screaming in pain, my breathing shallow and ragged as I fought to suck air into my lungs.
I don't know how long it was before I picked myself off the ground clutching my stomach in pain grabbing my bag and threw the door open throwing myself into a run down the pathway, through the maze and stumbled through the wrought iron gates running down the familiar path before I was in front of the tunnel that lead to the docks and the Fish Shoppe but stopped hunching over to catch my breath feeling like I was breathing nails into my lungs.
My whole body felt like it was on fire, I felt blood gushing out of my nose so I brushed my hand over it to wipe the blood away before I started through the tunnel walking out seeing the ship straight away with the crew all laughing and preparing for the voyage looking just as eager as the rest of us were, I knew for a fact that for a lot of us this was a chance for us to belong to something more than our parents legacies, this was our chance...our chance to do better than our parents and I was determined to be more than my mother ever was.
I approached the ship walking up the gangplank and Harry immediately turned to the sound of my boots on the deck of the ship and I watched his eyebrows pinch together as did the rest of the crews so I doubt I'd done a very good job at clearing my face of any blood but at the rate of my pain it was probably beginning to bruise quite badly as well but I didn't let any of them see me as weak so I held my head high and walked towards the hatch that lead to the captains quarters which I was going to be sharing with Uma.
I opened up the hatch and stepped down the ladder that lead into the captains quarters shutting the hatch behind me before I headed to the right hand of the room where I'd already set up a place for myself in the room, because the standard ship only has one captain there was only one cot but I'd fixed that issue by securing a hammock to the roof and that was fine by me.
I started unpacking my knapsack, arranging my belongings finding places for my stuff avoiding Uma's half of the room before I was done and laid back in my hammock to rest feeling my body still aching as it wasn't like anyone had access to any pain medication on this island.
"Knock, knock!" I sat up watching Harry just stroll right in from the door beneath the deck meaning he was probably coming from the lieutenant quarters where I knew he'd also set up a room for himself for when he was aboard ship and not at the Jolly Rodger.
"Just come right in" I said rolling my eyes at him.
"Thank you" he sang making me smirk and shake my head a little. "Ye alrite?" he suddenly asked actually sounding serious for once.
"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" I shot back as I stood up watching as he started walking around my half of the room picking up some of my stuff before putting it back down.
"Yeh look like ye've gone three rounds out the back of Gaston's Duels Without Rules" I scoffed trying to keep myself from smiling since it actually hurt my face to smile.
"Thanks, must've been a hell of a fight then" I played it off pushing him away from my jewelry box, not trusting him not to swipe my jewel necklaces.
"Yer right, what really happened to yeh?"
"Why do you care?" I asked him.
"Yeh are me captain" he replied making me roll my eyes.
"I'm fine Harry, nothing I can't handle" I argued again.
"I'm sure ye could but yeh don't look so good, ye face is more blue and red than I'd ever seen it and I've seen some nice shiners on yer before" I frowned giving him a small glare since if there was one thing I hated worse than the beatings was people pointing them out. "Who did it?"
"No one" I snapped back turning away from him heading back towards my hammock but he quickly caught my hand with his hook pulling me back around.
"Tell me and I'll hook 'em for you" he argued and I sniggered at that.
"I'm sure you would"
"I'm being honest here love, tell me who did it and I'll hurt 'em" he said and I was looking in his eyes seeing the clear sincerity in his ocean blue eyes and found myself sighing sagging in defeat since him looking at me like that made me want to just tell him but I knew he was no match for my mother or her goons and he was too gorgeous to lose his head.
"Just leave it Harry, it's nothing" he growled out a dangerous glint forming in his eyes.
"It was ye mother again, wasn't it?" he asked and my eyes widened a little.
"Wha...no!" I exclaimed answering quickly. "I...I don't know what you're talking about"
"I know about ye past beatings Ilizabeth, yeh think I haven't seen it before"
"Of course not but I just don't make a big deal about it so can you just drop it!" I argued loudly, I brushed my hair over my shoulder as I pulled my wrist out of his hook.
"Fine" he growled out. "At least let me clean yeh up, ye don't want to go back up looking like that" he added pulling a small first aid kit from a cardboard and I rolled my eyes. "Sit" he pushed me down onto a chair before putting his hook down and started pulling out the dirty rag which looked like it had already seen its fair share of injuries and he poured some peroxide onto it which was about the only medicine we got on the island and they were always near empty bottles from the barges.
He started brushing the rag over my cuts and I found myself staring into his eyes watching the clear concentration as he carefully and as gently as I'd ever seen him moved the cloth over my cuts as I tried to avoid showing any emotion of pain as the peroxide burned on contact.
"Yeh lucky ye don't need stitches" he commented and I found myself recoiling since stitches for us meant rusty needles and fabric thread with a do it yourself or bleed to death kind of situation since we didn't have doctors or anyone formally qualified, another thing King Beast thought villains didn't deserve.
"Yippee for me" I replied with a smirk making him smile back before he started on another cut with a fresh section of the cloth leaning in close making us practically a hairs breath apart and I found my eyes watching his lips tighten and relax with his concentration as well as the odd thought of how soft they seemed and suddenly had a wonderful fascination on what they'd feel against mine but then I remembered this was Harry Hook and he didn't think about me like that and what I felt was nothing more than physical attraction since it was obvious he was attractive, anyone with eyes could see it and they did since Harry never had a shortage of girls vying for his attention.
"All done, ye shouldn't scar" he smirked putting everything back into the first aid box.
"Thanks Hook" I shot back standing up wincing a little from the pain in my ribs and he turned at the sound.
"Are yeh hurt anywhere else?"
"Not really, just my ribs but I'll be fine" his lips tightened into a deep frown. "Nothing I'm not used to" I admitted which just made his eyes harden. "We should get back up on deck, wouldn't want the crew thinking ya favored your captain a little too much"
"Ye wish" he laughed manically making me snigger back a little before he left and my smile dropped as soon as he left the room, I turned towards the broken mirror in the middle of the room near the door that lead to the underdeck crew and storage rooms and lifted my shirt looking at all the dark purple and yellow bruises that were now littering my torso and lightly touched a spot wincing which told me I had a broken a rib or two, I wasn't foreign to the feeling having had a few in my upbringing which meant I knew not much could be done for them.
I gathered an old bedsheet and ripped it up and used it as a bandage to wrap around my torso compressing my ribs in order for them to heal returning my shirt and jacket then headed up the stairs right as I watched Uma nearly at the dock which is where the crew had been gathered for the captains arrival so I quickly walked over and I saw her eyes taking in all the cuts and she frowned while I just gave her a look that said I didn't want to talk about it which she understood and turned to Harry.
"Ready?" she asked him and Harry's response was to salute, cock an eyebrow and grin like a Cheshire Cat.
"Ready" he responded raising his hook which he'd seemed to have polished to shine much brighter in the small amount of light we got through the thick clouds that covered the island, this made me smirk a little seeing as he was back to his normal self since I thought his behavior downstairs was very much unlike him.
"Gil?" Uma asked turning to our unofficial third in command, not that we'd ever responsibly leave Gil in charge of anything.
"Yes Shrim– Uma" Gil replied quickly correcting himself from making the mistake by calling Uma 'shrimpy' which he seemed to forget to do a lot. "And um...do you think we can grab dinner after this, I'm hungry" I scoffed and rolled my eyes at him.
"Let's go" Uma stated ignoring his last statement and started leading the way with our motley crew behind us as we headed back down the wharf towards the Lost Revenge shambling up the rope bridge and towards the decks of the ship quickly setting about unfurling the sails, hoisting up the jib and removing the ropes that held it to the deck so it would be ready to launch.
Uma and I climbed the steps of the forecastle turning to face the heavy wooden rail with the foremast standing at our backs with ropes flanking our either sides, the crew gathering on the main deck with the ship ready to sail it was time to put our crew in order, we both unsheathed our swords from our belts and held them up causing them to flash yellow and orange in the evening light.
"Pirates, somewhere on the Isle of the Doomed is a treasure chest that holds the pieces of a necklace that belonged to my mother, if we can find it I can call that fool Triton's trident from the sea and use it to win our freedom from this island prison, are you with me!?" Uma called out loudly.
"Arrrrr!" the crew cried followed by grunts and a shrug or two which in pirate terms was a good enough reception making me smirk before Uma and I clinked swords together.
"We ride with the tide!" we cried in unison raising our swords high into the sky.
"We ride with the tide!" Harry joined in raising his sword just as high.
"We ride with the tide?" Gil asked confusion on his face before he just shrugged his shoulders and removed his cutlass and raised it in the air like the rest of the crew who raised their swords and cheered in unison.
Harry took the wheel and kicked off the motor that would power the ship until the wind caught the sails, I saw a crowd begin to gather in the harbor with curious glances watching the Lost Revenge solemnly pulled out of the dock and into the dark water beyond, some of them tossed rotten tomatoes at the ships bow in the usual Isle's send-off as we began our quest for Ursula's necklace and then the Triton's magical trident.
