Summary: Gibbs has a new neighbor. He hasn't met him yet, but he can hear him play the piano in the evenings. He is intrigued and just may get his old piano out and start playing with the other one. Little did he know that the other man is exactly what he needed, not only in his work life but also in his private life.
This story is an AU where Gibbs and Tony don't meet in Baltimore, and they do not work together.
This story is inspired by this video I saw last week: watch?v=71xW8KfBxbA
I couldn't get this out of my head and Gibbs and Tony just did their own thing with this.
Disclaimer: The characters do not belong to me but surely everyone knows that!
Chapter one
Gibbs drove home after finishing up all the paperwork at the office. That was the one part of the job he would always hate. That and having to pretend to play nicely with people when someone demanded it. He truly wished he had someone who would take over some of his paperwork and who was good at dealing with people so Gibbs wouldn't have to do it.
His two agents just weren't ready for the responsibility that came with the job as Gibbs' senior field agent. Although they both thought they were and were frequently arguing about who was Gibbs' second in command.
'He would have to tell them that neither of them was ready yet and soon', he thought to himself while driving down the street to his house.
They were both good agents, but they lacked the experience to become a senior field agent and Gibbs knew they would never survive a week with all the extra work he would give them. They knew he was a tough Boss but didn't know that his standards for the senior field agent were much higher than the ones of the agency itself.
Both had their own area of expertise but neither had the skill to look outside the box. Kate was a brilliant profiler but a bit too trusting. She learned that lesson when the woman she had been protecting and helping to recover from the shock of being buried alive tried to blow them all up. She was smart and a good team worker but a bit uptight, a bit too stiff, which came from years of serving in the secret service.
McGee was really good with all the computer stuff and Gibbs was glad he had found the kid because he was sure he wouldn't find anyone who could work this whole technology stuff better. He was still scared of him though which was quite funny under some circumstances, but Gibbs couldn't have a senior field agent who was scared of him. He needed someone who would speak his mind and be able to stand up to Gibbs.
Neither of his two agents had learned that skill yet, they were both still too easily cowed.
When he drove into his driveway, he noticed a moving truck in the neighbor's driveway. So, someone had finally bought old Ann's house. Ann had been his neighbor for years but a few months ago she had decided she had no use for a big house anymore and moved out to a retirement home.
Gibbs was curious who his new neighbor was going to be, but he didn't want to think about any of this right now. All he wanted was to go take a shower and then work on his boat for a while. He hadn't had the time to do so with cases coming in one after another. He would never admit it, but he was glad they had the next four days off. The director, having noticed that his best team was almost constantly at the office and had no time to really rest in between cases, had given them the next two days off and as they had a free weekend coming up, they now had four whole days to recuperate and be ready to start work again on Monday.
He would use these four days to get some projects done around the house that he had neglected recently. Additionally, he had promised Rosy, his other neighbor, to look at her garden fence because apparently her dog had found a hole in it and had taken a liking to escaping from the garden.
But first things first… shower, dinner, and the three B's: Basement, Boat, Bourbon. He knew that would help him clear his mind and put all the cases behind him so that he could start with a fresh mind on Monday. A few slow, relaxed days off: exactly what he needed.
Little did know that there were no such things as slow, relaxed days when it came to his new neighbor.
