After writing a big, long action sequence for Star (Wars) Vs The Forces Of Evil, I needed a little break from that story. I hadn't added to this collection in a really long time and thought it would be a nice change of pace to write something sweet and fluffy, so here's what I came up with:
This is an alternate timeline, split off from the end of season 1. All the events up to the end of "Storm the Castle" are canon to this timeline, anything after is (probably) not, but you'll see references to a number of season 2 episodes. Despite my usual intent not to stray from canon…I'm gonna stray from canon a lot in this story.
Also, I'm aware that this story kinda shares some elements with some of my other Starco-one-shots. I didn't really intend for that to happen, it just kinda did.
On the day they met, Star gave Marco a hug.
They had just sent Ludo and his gang of monsters retreating in disgrace, having caused a fair amount of damage to the parking lot of the Stop & Slurp in the process. Marco was still hopped up on adrenaline, excited that he'd actually had an opportunity to use his karate skills outside of the dojo. Fighting side-by-side with this overly-energetic magical princess had been quite a blast, and he was already hoping he'd get the chance to do it again.
"...Well... I should probably go pack my bags."
Huh? Marco almost didn't realize what was happening until Star began walking away, her shoulders slumped. Oh, right! I told her-
"Wait!" He quickly hurried after her. "I don't want you to go. I want you to stay with us."
Star turned around. "Really?!" Her eyes literally sparkled with excitement. "Hugs!"
And Marco suddenly found himself wrapped in a tight embrace. At first he was surprised and a bit taken aback, but the hug was soft and warm and Star's hair smelled faintly of strawberries, so he didn't object.
Maybe I was a little too quick to judge. She didn't mean to turn my room into a black hole. She was just trying to do something cool for her new…friend.
I guess if I get to fight more monsters, having her around wouldn't be the worst thing ever.
Marco figured he could at least tolerate Star's presence in his home. What he didn't expect was just how quickly they would become friends.
Star was very easy to impress. She found earth-culture fascinating and was very enthusiastic about even the simplest things. A few days after their first encounter, Marco made Star a plate of nachos. She was very excited to eat food in the shape of a triangle, which he never would have predicted.
For the first few weeks, Marco felt like he had an energetic puppy following him around wherever he went, asking excited questions about everything they encountered. There were a handful of teasing jokes from his classmates, but they very quickly changed their tune the first time Star waved her wand and conjured a rainbow that explodes into fireworks. Marco genuinely enjoyed her company, and it wasn't long before the pair were inseparable best friends.
One day, Marco slammed his locker closed to reveal Janna, who had been standing behind the door. He yelped in surprise.
"Janna!"
"Diaz," the girl greeted, as if she had not just intentionally scared the daylights out of her friend. "Legitimate question: What's it's like living with a pretty girl you're not related to?"
Marco frowned. "Huh?"
"Star's been living with you a couple weeks now. She's cool. She's fun. You fight monsters together. She's adorable. What's it like spending literally all day, every day with her? Is it weird?"
"…I have no idea where you're going with this, Janna." And he walked away, heading for his next class. He wasn't expecting Janna to follow him, yet a moment later, she appeared at his side.
"You still pining over Jackie?"
Marco sighed. "Yeah."
Janna nodded. "Ah. I get it. Good ol' reliable Marco only has eyes one for girl."
Marco's shoulders slumped. "Yeah. A girl who probably doesn't even know I exist."
"She would if you talked to her. I've been telling you to for years."
"And I've been telling you for years, I'm working up to it," Marco whispered pointedly through teeth grit with annoyance.
"Sure didn't have to work up to talking to Star, now did you?"
"C'mon, Janna. Star and I are just friends."
"I don't know," Janna teased. "The Princess sure seems to enjoy hugging you."
"Star's just affectionate. She hugs everyone."
Janna rolled her eyes. "Whatever you say, dude."
Months passed. Marco started to get a little annoyed by Star's general lack of concern for his or her own safety, and came to a head during an extremely dangerous quest for a sandwich. The pair had a fight that resulted in both storming off. While they were apart for the first time in ages, Marco was captured by Ludo's monsters. Star came to his rescue, blew up her wand (and Ludo's castle) and tossed the tiny Kappa into the abyss.
When Star and Marco at last returned to the Diaz house, it was very late. After they'd readied themselves for bed and adjourned to their own bedrooms, Marco found himself far too wound up to sleep. He lay awake staring at the ceiling until a quiet, gentle knock on his door broke the silence.
"Marco?" came a whisper. "Are you awake?"
"Star?" Marco hopped out of bed and opened the bedroom door. Star stood in the hallway, dressed in her nightgown.
"Hey, Marco. I didn't wake you, did I?"
"No, I was awake. Everything okay?"
"Yeah. I just wanted to say…sorry."
"Sorry? Sorry for what?"
Star looked at the floor. "You were right. It wasn't worth dying over a sandwich. If we hadn't been fighting, I would have been with you when Ludo's monsters showed up, and together, we would have beat them like we always do, instead of you getting…ya know…kidnapped."
Marco gave her a friendly smile. "It's okay, Star. I kept you from being flattened-slash-eaten by the sandwich monster, you saved me from Ludo's goons. We always have each other's backs."
"Yeah," Star sighed. "You're right. I just feel bad for getting so mad. I never should have said-" She abruptly fell silent.
"…Never should have said…?"
Star clenched her eyes shut. "…I never should have questioned why we're friends…" A tear rolled down her cheek as she opened her eyes again and met Marco's gaze. "'Cause you're my best friend, Marco."
The boy didn't bother with words. He held open his arms, and Star melted into his hug. They stood there quietly for several minutes.
"I got mad, too, you know," Marco whispered. "Said things I shouldn't have said. But it's okay. Even best friends fight sometimes. Heck, Janna and I have been friends for years and she and I bicker constantly." Their hug loosened, and Star slid back far enough to meet his eyes. "But it's okay. Because friends forgive each other."
Finally, Star managed a smile.
And then, for reasons even he himself couldn't quite understand, Marco kissed Star on the forehead. She giggled a little bit, and playfully gave him a peck back on the cheek.
They released each other. "Goodnight, Star."
"Night-night, Marco."
The following day, Star seemed a bit clingy.
It was Sunday, so in the afternoon, Marco suggested they go into town and window shop.
"Doesn't that seem like something your parents should do? I mean, it's their house."
"…What?"
"You said we were gonna shop for windows."
Marco had to laugh. After several months of living with Star, sometimes he forgot she was from another dimension.
The pair walked into town. It was a beautiful day. The sun shone brightly, the birds chirped their sweet melodies, and a gentle breeze blew in off the ocean. Star hung on Marco's arm as she skipped happily along.
"You're certainly in a good mood today," Marco observed.
Star nodded. "Of course! I finally defeated Ludo, got myself essentially a brand new wand, and best of all-"
What Star *meant* to say was, "I get to spend this beautiful day with my best-bestie!"
What she *actually* said was, "I get to spend this day with my beautiful best-bestie!"
She realized her mistake as soon as the words came out of her mouth, and Marco could see by the embarrassment on her face that she had indeed flubbed her speech. So, before Star had a chance to correct herself, he made the split-second decision to resolve any awkwardness by joking about it.
"Thank you for noticing! I did spend some extra time on my hair this morning." And then, almost without realizing what he was saying, added, "You're looking pretty adorable yourself."
Star giggled. "Awwww, you're so sweet, Marco." And she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek for the second time in less than twelve hours.
Neither of the realized it, but they each had just flipped an involuntary switch.
The following morning, Star bounced happily into the kitchen while Marco was pouring himself a glass of orange juice. She came up beside him at the counter and nudged her elbow into his. "Hey there, handsome," she joked.
"And a very good morning to you, too, cutie," Marco replied, playing along. He held up the container. "Orange juice?"
"Yes, please!"
Mr. Diaz silently watched them fix their breakfasts from the table over his coffee mug. Star bid him good morning as she and Marco sat down beside each other at the opposite end of the table. Marco grabbed the funnies page from the newspaper, and they chuckled at the comics together as they ate their cereal. Mr. Diaz watched as they seemed to intentionally bump elbows and brush their hands against each other.
"I'm gonna go get dressed," Star told Marco when they'd finished eating. She started to pick up her empty cereal bowl, but Marco took it from her.
"You go ahead, I'll take care of this."
"Thanks, Marco!" She nudged her shoulder against his before disappearing from the kitchen.
"So, Marco," Mr. Diaz said slowly as his son went to put the bowls and spoons in the dishwasher. "How long have you and Star been an item?"
"Huh? Star and I aren't an item. What would make you think we are?"
Mr. Diaz narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Hmmm…nothing, I suppose," he said slowly.
Marco shook his head as he headed for the stairs. "Honestly, Dad. Star and I are just friends."
"We shall see," Mr. Diaz said quietly, his already suspicious eyes narrowing even more as his son headed upstairs. "We. Shall. See."
Some time passes…
Star and Marco's class schedules were nearly identical, save for two classes: English and science. Marco was in Honors English, which he did share with Janna. (Janna took classic literature and poetry very seriously.) After English, the pair would meet up with Star on their walk back from the far side of the school en route to the cafeteria for lunch.
Conversation between the two was lax. Janna was busy trying to bend the tweaked tail rotor of a tiny remote-control helicopter back into shape as they walked.
"Why do you have an RC helicopter?" Marco asked.
"Reasons."
"Like, prank reasons?"
"You'll find out soon enough."
They paused in the hallway by Star's locker to wait for the Princess. Typically, they didn't have to wait long for her to arrive, but today she seemed to be taking longer than usual. Marco stood on his tiptoes and scanned the crowd of shuffling students for his best friend.
"Huh. I don't see her. Where could she be?"
Janna looked up from her RC helicopter. She didn't see Star either, but she did see Jackie Lynn Thomas coming toward them. She rolled her eyes as her gaze shifted to Marco, expecting him to start hyperventilating or drooling. Much to her surprise, he didn't even appear to have noticed her. Eventually, Jackie walked right past where they stood. Marco never acknowledged her.
"Here comes Star," he said at last.
When she emerged from the crowd, however, Marco and Janna jumped in surprise. Star was covered from head to toe in black soot, and her hair stood out straight behind her, suspended by even more soot. Her hands and arms were also coated in a fair amount of green slime.
"Hey guys!" she greeted, just as cheerful as ever despite her appearance. "Sorry I'm late. I had to help clean up Mr. Kubliani's classroom."
"Jeez, Star, what happened to you?" Janna asked.
"I, uh…learned something new today," Star said rather sheepishly. "Never mix random liquids that you find in the science lab. Sometimes, they explode."
"Is that what that tremor was?" Marco asked. "I thought we just had a minor earthquake."
"Yeahhhhh. It made quite a mess."
"How come you still look like a wreck?" Janna asked. "Can't you just wave your wand and clean yourself up?"
"I could, and I was gonna, but…" Star pulled her wand from her backpack. The crystal seemed to be emanating a greenish glow. "I tried to use it to clean up the mess from the explosion, and it, uh…made an even bigger mess." She gestured to the greenish slime on her arms. "That's where this came from. My wand has been acting kinda funny lately. I'm a little afraid to use it on…you know…myself."
Janna took a closer look at the wand. "Yeah, I'm no magic expert, but based on that ominous green glow, I think you probably made the right call."
"I have some spare clothes in my locker you can borrow," Marco told Star. He gave her a sly grin. "I think you can pull off the look."
Janna frowned as she watched Star make intense eye contact with Marco, matching his sly grin. "Oh, do you now?"
"Of course. You'd look good in anything. And I know for a fact you'd look good in my spare hoodie."
"Well, then, Mr. Diaz, I may just have to take you up on that offer."
Janna followed behind the pair as they headed to Marco's locker. Marco fished out a neatly folded pair of black jeans, a gray T-shirt, and his spare red hoodie.
"Thanks, Marco! I'll get cleaned up and meet you guys in the cafeteria." And as she hurried away, she gave Marco a kiss on the cheek.
"What was that all about?" Janna asked as they headed for the cafeteria.
"What was what?"
"Are you and Star, like, a thing now?"
"A thing? My dad said the same thing a few weeks ago! We're not a thing! We're just friends!"
Janna's brow furrowed. "…Are you sure? Because you two were flirting pretty hard back there."
"We weren't flirting."
"You absolutely were."
They pushed open the doors to the cafeteria and headed for the lunch line.
"Not only that," Janna continued, "but you didn't even notice Jackie walking past. I've known you since kindergarten, and I have literally never once seen you not turn into a quivering mass of anxiety anytime Jackie is within your line of sight."
"Exaggerate much?"
"Whatever."
"And I think I would have noticed if Jackie had walked past."
"Well, you didn't. Probably because you were too busy looking for your new sweetheart," Janna said with a teasing smile.
"Shut up."
Janna dropped the conversation until after they'd gotten their food and made their way to their usual table.
"It makes total sense, you know."
"What does?"
"You and Star falling madly in love with each other."
"We're not-!"
"Yeah, yeah, you're just friends. But scientifically, it's pretty logical."
Marco raised an eyebrow. "Scientifically?"
"Yeah. You and Star have incredibly high levels of propinquity."
"Who?"
"Propinquity. A term for the physical and psychological proximity between two people and a strong factor in reciprocated attraction. You and Star are extremely close physically. You literally live together, you spend almost all day together at school, and you spend all your free time together."
Janna paused to take a bite of her school cafeteria burger. Marco thought about interjecting while her mouth was full, but he couldn't deny that he did have an above average interest in psychology and wanted to see where she was going with this, so he remained quiet.
"And psychologically speaking…dude, you literally have a tally sheet of how many times the two of you have rescued the other from serious injury, capture, or death. Constantly being rescued by the same person over and over again, especially one who you're already physically close with, is going to cause you to form a pretty strong subconscious attachment to that person."
Marco put down his sandwich. "Okay, I concede. Based on my knowledge of psychology, I would agree that Star and I have some pretty strong propinquity. But only as the very best of best friends. We weren't flirting, and we're not attracted to each other."
Janna looked past Marco. The cafeteria doors opened and Star, dressed in Marco's spare clothes, walked through. She smirked to herself. "We'll see about that. Star's here."
Marco turned around to look, and as he did, Janna slid around the table, held out her phone past Marco far enough to the side so he wouldn't see her in his peripheral vision, and snapped a picture of his face. She did it so quickly that Marco never noticed.
Janna inspected the picture. Marco's eyes were open wide, his jaw hung just a bit slack.
"Pfft. Not attracted my boot."
Star waved and headed for the line to pick up her own lunch.
"Hey, guys!" she greeted as she set down her tray and took a seat beside Marco. She'd washed the green goop and soot from her face, arms, and hands, and had pulled her still somewhat dirty hair into a ponytail to keep it under control. "Thanks again for letting me borrow your spare clothes, Marco. You're the best!" She affectionately rubbed her shoulder against his arm.
"No problem, Star. Anything for my best friend." And he shot Janna an unamused glance that the Princess couldn't see.
Janna rolled her eyes.
Some more time passes…
Marco was spending most of the day at his Dojo, so Star invited Janna to the mall with her.
Janna didn't get a lot of time with Star without Marco around. Time to see what Star has to say about her and Marco.
Over the last few weeks, Star and Marco had progressed from playful nudges and occasional pecks on the cheek to holding hands while they walked and calling each other so many flirty nicknames that Janna couldn't remember the last time she'd heard either of them use the other's actual name.
"So, Star," Janna began as they strolled past the food court, "how do you feel about Marco?"
"Marco? Marco's awesome! Why?"
"Just curious. Wondering if you…like him."
"Of course I like him. He's my best friend."
"Not what I meant."
"Then what do you-" Star froze in her tracks, her eyes widening. "Ohhhhh…you mean…do I like-like him?"
"Yes."
Star waved her hand. "Pssssh. Nahhh. Marco's my best friend, but we don't think of each other like that."
"…Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"…Are you reallllllly sure?"
"What are you getting at, Janna?"
"I mean, you and Marco have spent the last month holding hands and calling each other sickeningly sweet pet names. And you kiss each other on the cheek a lot."
"So? Marco and I are just affectionate. I'm affectionate with everyone."
"Not like you are with Marco."
"Marco's special. He's my best-bestie."
Star started walking again. "C'mon, let's check out this store!"
Janna could tell this was Star's way of effectively ending the conversation. She didn't press the issue, but then again, she didn't need to.
If Star was uncomfortable talking about it, then Janna knew her assumptions were most likely correct. She smiled smugly to herself.
Ha. I knew it.
Even more time passes…
"It's a friendship Snugly!"
Pony Head looked less than enthused. "Um…great. Uh, thanks, guys…uh, but how are we gonna dance in this?"
"You don't dance in a friendship Snugly, silly!" Star leaned back into Marco's chest, nestling her head into the space beneath his chin. "You snuggle!" Beneath the fuzzy blanket, she felt Marco drape his arms around her midsection and pull her closer, nuzzling her hair with his cheek.
Pony Head raised an eyebrow as she watched their exchange of affection. "Uh…okay?"
A rhythmic tone emanated from beneath the blanket. "Fifteen minutes to showtime!" Marco announced. He released Star, and she slid aside to give him space to extricate himself from the snugly. "I'm gonna go get the pizza!" And he quickly left the house.
Pony Head squinted at Star. "Okay, I was gonna ask what pi-zza is and why we're not going out dancing, but I think we have gotta talk about something else first."
"What's that?"
"Are you and Earth Turd, like, seriously still pretending you're not madly in love?"
"What?!"
"C'mon, girl, you're not fooling anyone. You and Marco totally have the hots for each other."
"We do not! I keep telling you, Pony, we're just friends!"
"And I'm telling you that you're crazy if you think I'm crazy enough to believe you aren't crazy! …about Earth Turd."
Star just stared. Pony Head stared back. "Marco and I," Star said at last, "Are just friends."
"…I have to go to the bathroom."
Marco, meanwhile, strolled confidently along the sidewalk, enjoying the warm evening air. Then suddenly there was a Pony Head in his path, staring at him with a toothy grin that stretched ear-to-ear. "Pony Head! Please go back to the house!"
"Not until you admit you're in love with Star!"
Marco frowned. "Pony, I'm not in love with Star!"
"Well, then I guess I'm not going back to the house! C'mon, Earth Turd! Show me so of that Earthian Night Life!"
Marco grimaced. This was going to be a long walk to Emilio's.
Even MORE time passes…
"Good morning, Gorgeous," Marco greeted as he came into the kitchen.
Star giggled, batting her eyelashes at him as he came up behind her. "Mornin', handsome."
He leaned over and kissed her on the forehead before heading for the counter to fix his breakfast. Mr. and Mrs. Diaz, sitting opposite Star, glanced at each other questioningly. This type of behavior had been going on for quite some time now, yet the teens were still insistent that they were just friends and nothing more.
And Marco's parents were becoming suspicious.
"So," Mrs. Diaz said slowly, "Do you two have plans for today?"
"Yeah! We're going to Sensei Brantley's birthday party!" Star replied.
"That's sounds like fun!"
Marco returned with a toasted english muffin. He slid his chair over closer to Star's, playfully pushing her arm with his elbow as if she were in his way. She giggled and shoved back. "Sensei throws the best parties. You're gonna love it!"
Later, as the pair headed down the front walk hand in hand with Cloudy in tow carrying their birthday presents for Sensei, Angie and Rafael watched them through the kitchen window.
"What do you think, Rafael?"
"About what, Dear?"
"Are they lying to us, are they oblivious, or are they delusional?"
"I do not think they are lying. They are good kids; they would not lie. But if they think they are just friends, they perhaps they need to have their eyes checked."
"Well, they do say love is blind."
"I think perhaps love needs glasses."
You get the idea…
"I don't understand why you care about this so much, Janna," Marco said as he swapped out books in his locker.
"Mostly because you two are driving me nuts with your incessant flirting. If you'd just own up already and admit you have feelings for each other, it would honestly be easier to stomach."
Marco slammed his locker closed. "But I keep telling you, we don't have feelings for each other! And we definitely don't flirt!"
Janna shook her head and followed after her friend as he walked away. "You're impossible."
Marco waved as he saw Star coming toward them, and the Princess waved back.
"Hey, Sweet Cheeks."
"'Hey,' yourself, Cute Thang!"
Janna gagged.
"You're leaving early to go to the dentist, right?" Star asked.
"Yup. Gotta keep these pearly whites all pearly and white," Marco replied, flashing a suggestive smile.
Star giggled. "Oh, Marco, with a smile like that, you could brighten up a whole room!"
Janna rolled her eyes. "Oh, for the love of…"
Marco went on. "Since it's Friendship Thursday, why don't we meet up for dinner afterwards?"
"Sounds great! Where at?"
"Hmm…how about the Chinese place? Meet you there around 5:30?"
"Sure!"
"Great! See you then!"
And then something strange happened. Star and Marco both leaned in at the same time to kiss the other on the cheek and accidentally kissed on the lips. For a second, they stared at each other with wide-eyed shock. Then Star suddenly lunged forward and wrapped a very surprised Marco in an excited hug.
When she released him, she smiled warmly. "See you later, Marco." And she winked at him as she turned and walked away.
His mind still reeling with confusion, Marco turned to his other. "Janna."
"Yeah?" she said through a smug grin.
"What just happened?"
"Well, I think your little friendship dinner with Star just became a dinner date. I hate to say I told you so, but- Actually, no, I don't!" She punched him in the arm.
Marco swallowed nervously. "I…I didn't mean to do that! It was an accident!"
"Sure it was. But Star sure didn't seem to think so."
Marco had to admit, Janna had a point. His mind suddenly began to race as he thought back on all the pet names, the hand holding, and the playful nudges and bumps he and Star had exchanged over the past few months.
"Hey, Janna?"
"What?"
"All the stuff you've been saying is me and Star flirting with each other?"
"Yeah?"
"I see it now."
He jumped as Janna slapped him on the back. "Glad you finally pulled your head out of the sand, Diaz. Now get going, or you'll be late for your dentist appointment."
"Oh, right! The dentist! I almost forgot!"
Marco sat at a table in the far back corner of the restaurant. He'd asked the hostess for the most private table available. He'd been right on time, but Star it seemed, was running a bit late.
And for every minute he sat alone, the more nervous he became.
What do I say to her?
He'd already had plenty of time to think as he'd sat in the dentist's waiting room…and then sat in the chair while he waited for the dental hygienist…and then waited for the dentist. (He figured at least sixty percent of the time he'd spent in the dentist's office was just waiting.) He'd thought about Star and how he felt about her.
And how he hoped she felt about him.
Maybe Janna was wrong. Maybe Star didn't take the kiss to mean anything. Maybe she thought it was just more best friends affection. Maybe this isn't a date.
Maybe…
He looked up. Star had just walked in. Marco's eyes went wide.
Nope. This is definitely a date.
Star had foregone one of her usual colorful dresses for a long, flowing, sleeveless one made of a dark violet cloth inlaid with tiny, sparkly beads, woven into a floral pattern. Her normal demon-horn headband was missing, too, replaced by a single flower stuck into her long hair, which hung behind her back in a loose braid.
Marco stood up at she approached. She smiled at him warmly.
"Hi, Marco," she said softly.
Marco smiled back. "Hey, Star. You look…amazing."
"Thank you!"
He looked down at his own clothes, still dressed in the same hoodie and jeans he'd worn to school. "I feel a little underdressed," he laughed nervously.
Star held up her wand. "Hold still."
Marco shut his eyes. It wasn't that he didn't trust Star, but occasionally her magic had a tendency to be a bit unpredictable.
"Radiant shadow transform," she whispered.
A glittery mist enveloped Marco, and when it cleared, he opened his eyes to find that he now wore a perfectly tailored gray suit.
"How's that?" Star asked.
Marco smiled at her. "It's perfect."
He pulled out Star's chair for her before taking a seat himself. They looked at each other over their menus, shyly smiling at each other. After the waitress took their orders, Star reached across the table and took Marco's hand in her own. She smiled at him, and he smiled back.
"Marco…I…"
"I love you, Star."
Star blinked, feeling her face grow warm as she blushed. "You…you love me?"
"I'm sorry I didn't realize it sooner. I've been telling my parents and our friends that you and I are…just friends. But we're more than just friends. We're more than best friends. At least…I think we are. I…I hope we are." He looked at her hopefully, silently praying for confirmation.
Star squeezed Marco's hand, her brilliant blue eyes shimmering as she looked deep into his and smiled. "We definitely are."
The pair staggered up the Diaz's front walk, leaning on each other for support.
Star stifled a burp. "Oh, Marco…I am so. Full."
"Yeah…me, too."
She swung her arms around Marco's neck, nuzzling Marco's cheek with her temple. "Totally worth it, though."
He put an arm around her waist. "Yup. Totally worth it."
They paused in the alcove around Marco's front porch. The evening was still and calm, the sound of chirping insects filling the air. They held each other close, just looking into each other's eyes.
"I love you, Marco."
"And I love you, Star. I have a question. Was this our first date?"
"I think it was."
"That kiss we had at school today…was kind of an accident."
"A happy accident."
"Totally. Do you wanna…kiss for real?"
The words were barely out of Marco's mouth when Star mashed her lips against his, kissing him hard.
The door swung open to reveal Mr. and Mrs. Diaz, Pony Head, and Janna. The three humans were applauding. The new couple broke their kiss, mostly out of surprise.
"Yaaas!" Pony Head cheered. "Finally!" Mrs. Diaz snapped a picture, capturing Star and Marco looking quite red in the face.
Janna stepped forward, jabbing a finger in her friends' faces. "Told. You. So."
I wrote this so fast. If only inspiration always came this quickly.
