"Lily?" Lily looked up to see who was speaking to her. She attempted to move her sopping wet dark red hair off her face to see properly, but more just fell into its place.
"Yes?" She shielded her eyes from the heavy sheet of cold rain and looked up to find James looking down at her with his hair plastered to his head and small droplets of water running down his face.
"What are you doing?" James asked, sounding almost amused.
"I'm looking for something," Lily muttered, getting back on her hands and knees. "I've lost something important."
James watched for a second as she felt around on the soggy ground for whatever it was she thought was down there. He almost turned and left her to search in peace, but thought better of it.
Lily heard a soft thunk on the ground next to her and looked up again. She smiled slightly. James, too, was on his hands and knees running his fingers through the wet grass.
"You don't know what you're looking for." Lily pointed out the obvious and James stopped for a second and returned her smiled.
"I think I'll know when I've found it." Lily shook her head and looked back down to the ground where her hands never stopped running over the wet earth.
"Lily?" James rearranged his plain black cloak so that his skin was once again touching dry fabric.
"Yes?" Lily looked up again, her hands still working their way mindlessly along searching for something solid in the sea of cold, wet grass.
"At the end of term last year, you said that you were looking for something in me to change…" James trailed off watching her face. It seemed thoughtful for a second, and then she smiled and turned back to the ground.
"I think I'll know when I've found it."
James smiled and watched the top of her head for a few seconds. He let out a shocked "Oh!" and lifted his hands from the wet earth.
Between his shaking, wet fingers dangled a thing golden chain and a small square emerald.
"I think I found it."
Lily's head snapped up and when she saw the gold glinting in the tiny amount of fading light that made it through the clouds and the curtain of rain, she practically launched herself at James.
"Ooph!" James fell backwards from the force of her hug and very nearly dropped the necklace into the grass again.
"Thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" James smiled and sat up.
"You're welcome." Lily stood and offered her hand to James.
He hoisted himself up and motioned for her to turn around. When she did, he placed the necklace around her neck. Lily shivered as he closed the small golden clasp. James didn't know if it was from his touch, or the cold wet metal.
Lily turned around and smiled up at James. His hair was still plastered down and his clothes were soaking wet and weighing him down.
"I think I've found it, too," she thought to herself.
As they trudged silently up the slippery hill to the warm, dry, castle she let her fingers become entwined with his.

So, that was certainly special. Ahh..I love Les Miserables…
Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men. It's the song of people who will not be slaves again. Sigh…good times, good times.
I'm off because I'm tired and delusional and the internet here is unbelievably slow and it will take forever to even get to the place I need to upload this beast.
