A Final Triumph Of Love
Chapter 1: A Dream?
Rebecca gripped her staff as she faced a creature that looked like an overgrown flower with tech all over it. "What in the world is this thing?" She asked herself.
"Don't know, but we need to take care of it," said Hannah, Rebecca's good friend who worked with the good mages. She turned to the other mage. "Feel like teaming up?"
"I'm all for that."
The two teamed up, battling the monster with all they had. "Begone, foul creature! We don't want you here!" Hannah cried out.
"You made a mistake thinking we wouldn't stop you," Rebecca said as the two mages aimed their attacks at the monster, who roared and all of a sudden, the dark-haired mage felt like her limbs were heavy as something grabbed her shoulders and began shaking them in a gentle, yet urgent way.
She tried to fight it, but the gentle shaking was insistent and she all of a sudden felt like she couldn't breathe, to which her struggling became more desperate. "No!" She cried out, but it came out in a raspy voice before she looked to see Hannah vanish before her and the monster did too, making everything blacker than night and it seemed everything was spinning as she still couldn't breathe.
"Rebecca? My love, wake up!" A voice said in a distance, though she just barely heard it. Suddenly, she felt something settle on her and she instantly recognized it as her husband's magic. As if a switch had been flipped, Rebecca snapped awake and gasped for air, her body shaking as her eyes were wide and she jumped as two arms came around her before a voice spoke in her ear.
"My love, it's only me," said a soothing voice that she recognized and she turned to see Papyrus was looking at her worriedly, his orange magic making his eyes light up as he held his wife close to him, gently guiding her head to his chest so that she could hear his heartbeat. "Shh. I'm here."
It took the mage a moment to get her bearings, but when she did, she sat up, still a bit shook up from her dream. She quickly put on a hoodie over her nightgown. "I'll be back, Handsome," she said, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "I've just got to check on something real quick."
"Are you alright, my dear?" He asked her. "You're still shaking."
She nodded. "I'll be alright," she said before smiling. "I'll bring us some hot chocolate when I return."
"Want me to go with you?" Papyrus asked.
She gently shook her head. "Although, would you be a dear and check on the twins for me?" She asked sweetly.
Nodding, he went to check on Ida and Hope as Rebecca teleported away, going to the castle and checking on all the royal children, finding each of them sound asleep, though Julie was having a bit of a nightmare. Seeing this, the mage held out a hand to the small child.
"The moon is smiling up in the sky, so let evil dreams haunt you no more," she said softly.
Her magic settled over Julie, who calmed down and hugged her stuffed animal she was sleeping with closer before waking up slightly. "Aunty?" She asked sleepily.
"Shh," Rebecca soothed her, gently stroking the child's head. "You're safe, Julie. No nightmares are going to get you tonight."
Julie fell back asleep right then and the mage tucked the child in, kissing her forehead affectionately and then spreading her green magic into the room, having it settle on the children, who snuggled deeper under their covers feeling their aunt's magic, knowing she did that to make them feel safe.
The mage teleported all over the Underground, checking on everyone to make sure all was well. Grillby and his wife Muffet were sound asleep with their twins, Harmony and Sky, sleeping nearby and the twins were holding hands just like their parents, which made the mage smile before she heard Grillby grunt and he sat up. "Shh, it's just me, Grillby. Rebecca," she said softly.
He looked at her blearily. "What is it?" He asked sleepily.
"I couldn't sleep and wanted to check on everyone," she admitted, which was true. She then gently blew some of her green magic into the fire elemental's face and he fell back asleep, to which she helped him lie down again before she vanished, going outside and closing her eyes, reaching out with her magic to feel if anything was off. All was good and the barrier was holding strong.
Rebecca opened her eyes and looked sad. "The barrier," she said to herself. "I only hope we can break it soon. It's been a long time to be trapped under here."
The monsters had been trapped for over two hundred years and when the mage had first fallen in, she had used her magic to not only reinforce the barrier, but also to create a bit of a barrier shield where the hold to inside the mountain was. Only those with good intentions could enter, like Alessia running to protect her baby she didn't know she was pregnant with at the time. And Sierra, who had come to Mt. Ebbot to protect her niece and herself from family members that were evil mages.
Sighing, Rebecca now returned home, walking down the hallway and rubbing the back of her neck. "Master?" Came a familiar voice and she turned to find Kano beside her, the puppet having woken up at sensing his master's unrest and gone to see what was wrong. "Master, what happened? Your magic smells sour."
She sighed a little. "I had a strange dream," she said. "Myself and Hannah were battling this odd creature. It looked like a combination of a plant and technology, and looked so hideous, like something out of a nightmare."
The puppet looked shocked. "Master...that description," he said. "Are you sure about that creature you saw?"
"Yes," she said before looking at him. "Why?"
Kano swallowed hard, hugging himself. "Kano?" Rebecca asked, noticing he looked afraid. She kneeled down and pulled him into a hug, feeling him shiver in fear. "Kano, you're trembling. What's wrong?"
He looked at her. "Master, I've heard rumors of the evil mages creating a monster with flora and tech to unleash and have the town turn on the good mages," he said. "The monster you described from your dream...I think it's the same monster the evil mages have."
"Which means...what I saw...it's real?" She asked.
Kano nodded. "Then I didn't just have a dream," the mage continued. "It's a warning."
Fear filled her now, because from what she saw in her dream, the monster was strong, strong enough to defeat her and Hannah. She hugged Kano again and he hugged her back, sensing her fear. "Master?" He asked.
"The monster...knocked me and Hannah away as if we were annoying insects," she said, feeling more scared now, her magic coming off her in waves and smelling even more sour.
Papyrus, sensing this, quickly sought out his wife and saw her and Kano and he hugged them both, holding them close.
Unknown to them, Gaster and Sans had also woken up, their magic active as they too sensed the sour smell of their sister-in-law's magic. They knew she only got like that when she was scared or stressed out. Getting up, they went to go check on her and found Papyrus hugging his wife and Kano was also being hugged. The other two skeletons joined in the hug, holding all three close.
"Shh," Gaster cooed at them.
"It's going to be okay," Sans said gently.
Kano nodded, but deep inside, he vowed to be more vigilant to protect his family from the danger that was no doubt coming.
Looks like things are starting to heat up. Next up: Rebecca learns she's not the only one that had that dream.
