Chapter 44

WAREHOUSE

Jaime and Bart stood near the door hugging each other tightly.

"I'm sorry I hurt you" Jaime whispered in his ear. Bart clung to Jaime tighter tears forming in his eyes.

"It's okay," Bart said with a false smile.

"No, it's not Bart I never want to do that to you again" Jaime rubbed Bart's cheek tenderly making the younger look up at him.

"It wasn't you though, it was the Reach at least we got you back, that's all that matters" Bart stated.

"I know but it was still in my hands" Jaime released Bart from his grasp. Bart looked up at the older boy with a desperate look on his face.

"This is over isn't it?" Bart questioned.

"I like you Bart…seriously and maybe if this was under different circumstances" Jaime started.

"Don't do that" Bart interrupted him, he turned away from him crossing his arms. Jaime watched the younger boy's back, he placed a hand on Bart's shoulder. Bart shook Jaime's hand off his shoulder.

"Bart," Jaime said.

"Listen, I….I get it and I feel the same way I know you're not the Big Blue that hurt me but….I know this shouldn't go any further" Bart said. The two held hands for a moment, Jaime brushing his thumb against the back of Bart's hand.

"Friends?" Jaime asked.

"Always" Bart reassured. He sped forward pecking Jaime on the lips.

"Hey" Jaime glared.

"For old times sake" Bart chuckled playfully. Jaime rolled his eyes before placing a soft kiss on his cheek. The two watched each other for a moment before parting. Jaime waved at him then walked to the door exiting the building. Bart sighed dramatically. He sped out of the warehouse and made a b line towards California.

GOTHAM CITY

Conner and Tim sat at a fancy restaurant. Conner dressed in a black dress shirt with dark slacks and dress shoes. Tim in a fresh pressed tux. The two looked through their menus.

"I will never understand how a place can be so expensive but serve such small portions," Conner commented.

"I did say we can just go to the burger barn" Tim chuckled.

"And I said I want to spoil you tonight, come on Tim let me have this" Conner pinched at his cheek. Tim groaned, swatting his hand away.

"You're such a child," Tim smirked.

"I am only 6" Kon reminded.

"Please don't say that too loud" Tim gritted out. Conner burst out laughing, Tim glared daggers at him.

"On a serious note though, did you hear Dick and Wally are getting married?" Kon asked.

"Yeah, it's about time Wally is good for him" Tim commented.

"Yeah, like you're good for me?" Conner asked.

"Is that so?" Tim raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I'm calmer with you around" He picked up Tim's hand placing a soft kiss onto it.

"Smooth Kent, very smooth" Tim complimented his date.

"I try," Conner shrugged.

"How are you though? M'gann up back, Dick's secret is out and Kaldur isn't really a traitor" Tim asked with concern clear in his voice.

"I still have a bone to pick with Dick but I can understand why he did it. M'gann and I have been pretty good, we're friends again and I like that...she knows about you by the way" Conner smiled at Tim, a blush formed over his cheeks.

"Oh" Tim couldn't help but let a smile slip out.

WEST- CROCK RESIDENCE

"Alright Bart I've got popcorn, chicken whizzes, soda, sweets and chips" Wally entered the living room with various snacks in his arms. Bart was cuddled up on the couch with a blanket over him. He was switching between channels trying to find one he liked.

"UGH guys suck" Bart grumbled.

"Yeah, I know" Wally set the snacks down before taking a seat next to his younger cousin.

"How would you know? You're getting your happily ever after" Bart said bitterly.

"And I had to work for it, believe it or not I was where you are now Artemis, Conner and I were a bunch of sad sacks over our break ups and what helped was movie nights" Wally wrapped his arm around Bart.

"You're going to be good, okay?" Wally reassured Bart. Bart nodded, turning his green eyes towards the T.V.

"What do you want to watch?" Wally questioned.

"Anything that doesn't involve aliens" Bart grunted.

"Friday the 13th it is" Wally picked up the remote.
