Chapter one
Harry Potter couldn't believe how happy he was. He was married to the girl he loved. He was part of a great family in the Weasley's, which was growing all the time. He was on his honeymoon and experiencing things that he didn't think he would. And in the near distant future, he would have children.
Harry always thought Voldemort would kill him, that he would never have a future. He still found it hard to believe that he actually killed Voldemort. But he did and the world was safe once more. He could finally have the life he had dreamt about when he was young, before he knew of the wizarding world.
Harry had proposed to Ginny only weeks after The Battle of Hogwarts. She instantly said yes, then Harry presented her with a beautiful diamond ring but also the keys to their new home.
Over the following weeks everyone got stuck into wedding plans, but mainly Molly, Ginny and Hermione. Harry only had a few stipulations. No reporters and he didn't want a huge wedding. He also said he only wanted people he knew to be invited. He said sorry to Mr and Mrs Weasley but he didn't want their extended family invited not when he didn't know them, he also didn't want Muriel, he hated gossips and that was what she was. He didn't like the woman so he refused to allow her to be at his wedding. One thing Molly, Arthur and Ginny knew about Harry, he was stubborn when he wanted something. If they tried for a bigger wedding or to have reporters there, Harry would leave, or not even turn up. If that happened, there would never be a wedding. Harry would never give them a second chance. He had told people enough times that he had been betrayed too often, now, everyone only got one chance. They decided to be safe and went with a decent size wedding without it being huge.
Harry thought back to the day he got married as he stared at his naked wife lying on the balcony, getting a tan. It had been a perfect day. With help from the minister, who placed aurors around the Burrow. They made sure no one snuck in that didn't have an invitation. Molly, with the help from Fleur, Hermione, Andromeda and the house elf, Winky, cooked a feast worthy of royalty.
Harry had thought of his wedding day often but now it was their last day of their honeymoon. They had to return so Harry could begin his training, as an auror. Being an auror is the only thing Harry wanted to do but he also thought it was what he was meant to do. As Hermione put it, he had a saving's people kind of thing. Being an auror would help keep the world safe.
Over the next few months, Harry couldn't believe how content he was. Even though auror training was hard and had some long days, he always smiled because he would be heading home to his wife. Ginny might be training with the Harpies but she always made sure she was home before Harry. If she had time, she would cook, if she didn't, they would go out. Harry didn't care either way, he just loved his life as a married man.
Harry finished his tiring day training and was looking forward to a hot meal with his friends. Ron and Hermione were coming to his home to have dinner. Ginny had learned how to cook from her mother and Harry thought there wasn't a better cook anywhere than Molly Weasley and Ginny was a good student. Ginny had let him know she would be home just before him but she would have time to make them a nice meal.
'Ready to go Harry?' Ron asked.
'Yep, is Hermione going to meet us there?'
'She's probably there already. She finishes before us. She was going home to change then straight to your place.'
'Okay then, let's go, I'm starving.'
'Isn't that normally my saying?' Ron smirking making Harry laugh.
As Harry and Ron were making their way down in one of the lifts, Hermione was making an emergency floo call to the auror office. The head auror had one of the other aurors use one of their emergency portkey to get to the atrium before the lifts opened. He wasn't looking forward to breaking the news, but he also had to begin investigating. Hermione Granger, who was engaged to Ron Weasley and one of the heroes of the war was to be questioned first, then it would be the last people to see Ginny Potter.
Two aurors used their emergency portkey to get to the atrium. That was only allowed in emergency's and right now it was. They had to get to Harry and Ron before they left the ministry. Tim decided to take charge of this straight away, mainly because of who Harry was. He told Hermione to floo directly into his office since she would need to be interview. Once she was there, Hermione was questioned using veritaserum, that she willingly agreed to take. He had to get the facts and all the facts before he could begin to investigate.
Harry and Ron weren't sure what was going on but they followed their two work colleagues back to the auror offices. The head auror, Tim, took Harry into his office while the deputy head, Connie, took Ron into the conference room. Both had done this type of job before. They didn't like to tell a someone that a loved one died but this time was worse. One was married to Ginny while the other was Ginny's brother. Tim knew this would mean being down two aurors to give the two young men time to grieve. He would get his aurors to begin the investigation in the death of Ginny Potter.
It had been a few weeks since the death of his wife and Harry still hadn't returned to work. He wanted to help find out why Ginny died. It was when he was sitting in his parents old home that he first believed he might have found the reason. Ginny didn't have any marks on her so it wasn't a spell. At first Harry thought it was the killing curse but a small red mark will show up and remain visible for a few hours before it fades. There was no marks on her at all. She had been examined by a forensic healer who explained that Ginny wasn't poison. Right now, the healer and everyone else was baffled. But after Tim had explained what they knew, or didn't know that's when Harry went into his parents home. He needed something that would help him, something that would to give him a clue as to why his wife had died.
Harry's thoughts were going somewhere he really didn't want them too. But after all the investigation from the aurors that he worked with, they had not found anything that told them how his wife had died. It's why Harry was sitting in his father's office in the house in Godric's Hollow. Some of the house had a lot of damage and Harry's old room was destroyed, but most of the rooms downstairs were still in good condition. He had planned to come here and strip everything from the house. Now he was here trying to find proof of a rumour Sirius had told him about when he stayed at Grimmauld place during his fifth year Christmas holidays.
It took all day before he found what he was hoping he wouldn't find. In a way he was glad to find the reason why his wife died, he just didn't like the reason and it was making him angry. He had to talk to his boss before doing anything else or speaking with anyone else.
Harry used the floo connection that was too his boss's office, 'I found the reason,' Harry said the moment his boss opened the floo.
'What is it?'
'For now, don't tell anyone, but you'll need to come here to see for yourself. I'm at the house in Godric's Hollow. Once you know and once I explain something, you'll understand more.'
'Alright, is the floo open for travel?'
'No, but you can apparate directly into the back garden.'
'I'll be there in ten minutes.'
Harry kept staring down at the ancient tome. He did wonder if his father had told his mother about this. From what Sirius had told him, Harry's parents were very much in love. He said they had their fights and arguments, but when they made up, the house shook. Harry thought Ginny really loved him, now he wasn't so sure. If she didn't, she was a good actress.
Tim Proudfoot walked into the room to see Harry staring at a book, but Tim could tell he wasn't reading.
'Harry.'
Harry jumped in surprise, 'Sorry boss, I was miles away. Okay, read this first then we'll talk,' Harry held out the book to his boss then stood at the window, staring out.
'So, you think your wife cheated and that's why she died.'
'It's the only thing that makes sense. The healers didn't find anything that could explain why she died. They even tested her to see if she was hit with the killing curse, she wasn't, nor was she poisoned. He heart and everything else was fine. This is the only thing that makes sense. I didn't want to believe it, but it's there in black and white.'
'It's not proof but it does make sense. Did you ever suspect Ginny was cheating?'
'No, I didn't think she would be the type.'
'How did you work this out?'
'While sitting at the house trying to figure out what happened, I remembered a conversation I had with my godfather. He mentioned a passing comment from my father, a rumour of how some people had died that had marry into the Potter family. When I ask about it, he said it had something to do with marrying under false pretences but that's all he knew. I didn't think to ask how my father and Sirius ended up talking about it. Have you ever heard of anything like this?'
'Yes, there are many curses that can be put on a families blood. I remember one I read about years ago. A wealthy but suspicious man added a curse to his blood but made sure it would stay in his blood, meaning his blood family. The curse meant only a virgin could marry into the family. If the person who tried to marry was not a virgin, magic would reject them. The person would show up in bright red for a minute and they could not get near the one from the family. It happened twice, once to the man and once to his great granddaughter. But I have read about ones that will kill a person.'
'It means this has to be the reason, Ginny cheated and the magic around this curse killed her.'
Tim sighed but nodded. He believed it was the reason, he just can't understand why. Harry Potter was a hero, he was rich, he was powerful, he was admired by almost everyone in the wizarding world. He was a good-looking man that could get any woman he wanted, yet his wife who everyone knew had loved Harry for years, cheated, why? He just couldn't understand the reasons Ginny potter would cheat. All the male aurors got to see each other while showering after training and Tim knew it could not have anything to do with Harry's size, if that was the reason Ginny cheated. Some woman preferred larger, some didn't care. Tim also wondered who the man was that had slept with Ginny. Most wouldn't be foolish enough to make Harry Potter angry. He was a powerful young man but he also had a lot of political power.
'Alright, I suppose we can finally close the case.'
'Boss, the Weasley's can't know about this, no one can.'
'They have a right to know Harry. Even now the other aurors use their spare time to work on this.'
'You have only known Ron for just over three months and you haven't really gotten to know the rest. You know of Arthur but you don't socialise. You only briefly met the two oldest boys and that was at the wedding.'
'Harry, just explain.'
