Chapter six

Harry greeted Connie, got himself a beer than explained what happened, 'So Hermione has made sure the information on the Prewett's is seen. That is very clever of her.'

'It is and Tim added it to the file and it's going to stay in the office. He removed all mentions of the curse on the Potter families blood. Also, I don't believe it will be long before Hermione wants out of that marriage. She mentioned it today but she said it would be easy if she didn't love him.'

'She still mentioned it, which means she's seriously thinking about it. I believe that now she's actually said it, it won't be long. Will she be safe if she leaves him?'

'I know of a spell that will have Ron believe he didn't love her anymore and it was his decision to leave. It is sort of like the imperius curse, yet it's legal for us and doesn't show any type of sign that the person is under a spell.'

'Tim mentioned there were spells that is only taught to the head auror and since we both know you'll end up in that office, it makes sense that he's teaching you now.'

'It is and it's only two years at most before you leave. Even though I would not like to take that job now, it's best if I know as much as possible in case the worse happens. We said another year and we'll marry. No one can make accusations when it'll be nearly two years since she died. People move on, they have too.'

'They do and even though we'll be fine, Ron won't make it. He might be given the choice to remain a junior auror due to how often he gets angry. It will always be one of the others that will handle investigations, he will just be told what to do.'

'Which he will hate but he has gotten worse and is slacking in all his work. He's using his time at the office to find out about Ginny. It's only another few months then Tim will be speaking to him. Since I did explain about all the Weasley's, he wants me and you with him when he does tell Ron, just in case.'

'We might seal the entire auror office in case he gets a lucky shot off. He won't be able to leave, or escape if he does. I really hope he doesn't go that far. So do you know the man that slept with Ginny?'

'Yeah, we weren't close but friendly. He was best friend of the twins. He is a commentator for the main quidditch matches. Lee is also one of the ones that might commentate for the next quidditch world cup. I would like to speak with him, I want him to know I'm not angry with him. Like Tim said, most would be scared to death to do anything against me and I would hate for Lee to do something which could give this secret away which could get him killed by one of the Weasley's.'

'Then see if you can talk to him on the weekend.'

'I'll speak with George first so he knows I'm not going to curse his friend. He will also be able to get in contact with him easier. If I did, Lee could panic since I've never initiated any contact with him before.'

'True. Let's just relax while we wait for dinner.'

After dinner, Harry did contact George about speaking with Lee. He said it was as a friend and even though he knows the truth, he was not going to hurt Lee.

Harry stayed in George's flat while he waited. George walked back in first, Lee following and Harry could tell the man was scared.

'I found out how you felt about her and about that night. I don't blame you Lee. I did at first. I was angry and I was going to hunt you down. I also know that legally, you did nothing wrong. As far as I'm concerned, it's the past.'

Lee instantly relaxed, 'I've loved her for years but she didn't feel the same. George and Fred knew how I felt and they did try to get Ginny to notice me. She only had eyes for you.'

'Yeah but we know now that she didn't really love me, more the idea of me, the saviour and all that shit,' Harry turned to George, 'Are you okay mate?'

'Yeah but I promised Lee no one will know, especially the family. You know more than most what our tempers can get like. Ron is the worse, then mum. Even though Lee should not have done it, I get why he did because I knew how he felt. You don't plan on telling anyone, are you?'

'No because I do know what the Weasley temper is like. Lee could end up dead and I think we've all seen enough death. You can't help how you feel and sometimes those feelings override your common sense and we do things we shouldn't. Anyway, it's over and done with. I just wanted to clear the air since I found out and let you know this will always remain a secret. I'm moving on with my life so I wanted to put that to rest as well. I think we all need to do that which is why I decided to speak with both of you.'

George asked Harry if he would do a new oath, he did but he had to work the words right so he could still talk about it but he could not name the man Ginny had slept with, except to his boss and Connie. Once the new oath was done, the three men spoke for a bit longer and Harry was really glad he was able to stay friends with George and Lee. He might not have had a lot to do with Lee over the years but the times they did speak with each other, they were always friendly. Lee was the one helping George through the loss of his twin so Harry didn't want Lee to hide away or disappear just because he feared what Harry would do. After speaking for a while, Harry went home to Connie. That's where his life was now, with Connie, who will end up being his wife. She was already the love of his life and that's the life he wanted, one with Connie.

It was two months later that Tim finished his evaluations on his trainee aurors. He used the conference room then spoke with them one by one. He had Connie with him. He officially made Harry senior auror and deputy head auror. Once that was done, he had Connie seal the auror offices then called Ron. It was time to pass on the bad news to Ron. None of them knew how he would take it so they were taking precautions, just in case.

'Even after all this time Ron, you still aren't up to date with anything. You've been slacking off and your work is less than what a first day junior auror would be. I had a decision to make, whether to officially let you go or keep you as a junior auror. If your work was done but still needed to learn things like law, I might have kept you on but you haven't been doing any of your work. I'm sorry to say that I have to let you go.'

Harry and Connie tensed as Ron's ears turned red. Harry wasn't surprised when Ron glared at him and not at Tim.

'You could have helped…mate.'

'I have tried Ron, you refuse to do your work. I told you many times but you just didn't listen. Tim explained that only I could continue to work on Ginny's case and I have been. You didn't stop even when you were told to stop by your boss. You kept working on it and not what you were told so the piles of files on your desk it enormous. If your boss tells you to do something, you have to do it, no matter what. Tim's given me orders that I didn't particularly like and there were some I hated, but I did them because that's what you have to do when you work for someone.'

'Even when Harry tried to help you, you still continued to ignore him. He could have said to me to give you another chance, I wouldn't because you've had enough chances. It's time to pack up your desk and leave.'

The other aurors stared as Ron stormed out of the conference room. Connie unsealed the office but kept her wand in her hand, just like Tim and Harry did.

Once Ron was gone Tim turned to his aurors, 'I had to officially let Ron go. Anyway, congratulations, all of you. I can say with confidence that all of you will be great aurors.'

Tim went around and shook everyone's hand again before handing them new robes. He returned to his office to finish off his paperwork.

'Was it just because of his temper?' Dennis asked.

'No, that was part of it but he just refused to stop working on Ginny's case and do his other work. I tried to tell him, Tim did a few times, even Neville did. He refused to listen. He also stopped studying things like laws, all aurors have to know them by heart, he hardly knew any. Anyway, Ron's gone, we just get back to what we were doing.'

It was a week later that Tim called Harry into his office, 'Ron hasn't done anything, has he?'

'No but we've all be waiting for it, we also believe some of the others might. I've decided to tell the Weasley's that we found a curse that was linked to the Prewett blood line. We just need to find out what that curse did. If it's not written down anywhere, then we'll have to invent one.'

'Well, Hermione researched the Weasley's and the Prewett's and nothing was written about the curse only that there was one. We could go with part of the truth, if someone cheats, the one that cheats dies. I don't know boss. I would like them to believe it's over and we found the reason. I will say this, not long after I began to have feelings for Connie, I did a lot of thinking. It was only six weeks after Ginny died when you first teamed me with Connie. It was within a week that I couldn't stop staring at her. Is it possible to fall for someone so fast?'

'You know Harry, all this could be because you were fed a love potion, a mild one. The moment she died, you weren't dosed and you didn't spend any time at the Burrow. We already worked out that you made yourself believed you loved her, but maybe it was induced. I would say if you weren't dosed, you would have began to look at Connie the moment you began here. It's just a theory, but it makes sense since you did begin to fall for Connie quickly.'

'It does make sense.'

'We could use this, I just wish we could find proof, like the potion.'

'I never went through her stuff boss, I only packed up her clothes. All her quidditch gear, the furniture along with personal stuff, like makeup was just stored.'

'Go through it, just see if there might be a potion there. If there is, I can get a healer to test it so no one can accuse us of falsifying records.'

'I'll go through it on the weekend. I'm sure Connie will help.'

'Alright, let me know straight away if you find something, then we might be able to put this completely to rest.'

'I will.'

As Harry sat at his desk, he thought about what his boss said. He wouldn't put anything passed Molly and Ginny. Molly did use a love potion on Arthur. She could have given Ginny the idea or Ginny might have decided to use one after hearing what her mother had done. It would have to be a mild love potion since his feelings for Ginny grew slowly over many months. It did seem natural, not like what happened when Ron was accidentally put under the love potion Romilda Vane had placed in the chocolates meant for Harry. He already knew it was true, Ginny used a love potion, now they just had to find proof.
