Chapter 1

The sun's rays shine down on the hidden tower in the woods. The camera zooms in, showing the tower window, which was halfway open.

A small black cat jumped onto the windowsill, preparing to jump down. Suddenly, strands of hair wrapped around the cat's body, lifting him up.

"Gotcha!" Adrien said, chuckling at the cat's annoyed face. "Where do you think you're going, Plagg?" he asked, putting the cat down.

The cat directed its head towards the window. "Mreow."

Adrien shook his head. "No, I like it in here, and so do you."

"Mmrrrreow." Plagg complained.

"Oh, come on Plagg, it's not that bad in here." Adrien said.

Adrien picked up the kitty and went downstairs.

As he ran down the steps, his long golden hair dragged on the floor behind him.

Adrien grabbed a broom and began to sing:

"7:00 am, the usual morning routine,

Start on the chores and sweep till the floor is all clean,

Polish and wax, do laundry, scrub the floor and shine up,

Sweep again and by then, it's like 7:15,

So I will read a book, or maybe two or three,

I'll add a few new paintings to my gallery,

I'll play piano and fence,

And cook some basic treats,

Just wonder when will my life begin?"

As Adrien sang, the camera shifted through each activity one by one. Adrien practically glided across the floor as he swept every corner of the room, his hair dragging behind him like a curtain.

Adrien carried a large pile of clothes to the center of the kitchen. He tripped over a sleeping Plagg, dropping the clothes on top of himself. He peeked his head out of the mountain of clothes, giggling to himself.

Adrien dumped a bucketful of soapy water on the floor and scrubbed the wood with a plunger. Once he scrubbed every inch of the floor, he dried it with a cloth.

Adrien put the scrubbing supplies away, grabbed the broom, and did one more sweep to make sure the floor was squeaky clean.

Seeing that all his morning duties were done, Adrien went to his room, grabbed a handful of books, flopped on his bed, and began to read.

An hour later, Adrien finished all his books. He placed them back on his bookshelf, grabbed some paints and brushes, ran to the living room, used a chair to reach the corner of the ceiling, and started painting. A half an hour later, Adrien put down his brushes and stepped down to take a look. He painted a string of floating lanterns in a night sky, the same ones that Adrien saw outside the tower window each year on his birthday.

After admiring his work for another minute, he heard the sound of clashing piano keys.

Adrien turned around to see Plagg walking across the keys on his piano.

"Plagg, that's not a carpet." Adrien walked up to the piano, picked up the black cat, and put him down the ground.

"Silly kitty, you want me to play a tune?" he asked.

Plagg's response was rubbing his head against Adrien's leg, purring loudly.

"I'll take that as a yes." Adrien said with a smile. He pulled out the bench from underneath the piano, sat down, and began to play Beethoven's Fur Elise. Plagg jumped on top of the piano, and flopped onto his back, purring along with the music.

After Adrien thumbed the last note, he heard Plagg meowing and scratching something.

Slowly standing up, for his feet had fallen asleep, he saw the black kitty scratching the bag of cat feed in the corner.

"Hungry already?" Adrien asked.

The black cat kept scratching the bag, meowing in agreement.

"Alright alright, I'll feed you." Adrien pushed the bench back under the piano, grabbed the bag, and poured a bunch into a bowl.

Plagg made a beeline for the bowl and munched eagerly.

"Enjoy." Adrien stomped his foot, that still felt numb from sitting. "Guess I should get some exercise in."

Adrien walked up to a set of drawers, opened up the middle one, pulled out a briefcase, and out of it, took out a long, shiny sword.

As a kid, Mother Natalie told him stories of knights with shiny swords who fought goblins and slayed dragons with their fencing skills. For his sixteenth birthday, Adrien begged for a sword to learn how to fence like a knight. After much persuading, Mother Natalie agreed and "went into town" to get him the sword.

In reality, Mother Natalie snuck into the Agreste Palace, stole a sword from one of the guards, and framed the blame on one of the servants.

Adrien was thrilled to be in possession of such a weapon, and trained really hard so that someday, when he convinces Mother Natalie to let him go outside, to prove his skills to the world and become a knight himself. Granted, his only teacher and opponent was Mother Natalie, but Adrien held onto his excitement of being able to go out and see the world to keep himself motivated.

Adrien walked to the middle of the room, held his sword upright, and looked at his imaginary opponent in the eye. "En Garde!"

After about twenty minutes of fencing air, Adrien did a sweeping motion with his sword as if sweeping his imaginary opponent's leg. He then pointed the blade under his imaginary opponent's chin.

"I win." Adrien said with a triumphant smile.

He offered a hand, helping his imaginary opponent to his feet. 'Good fight, sir knight." Adrien said with a respectful bow.

Adrien's stomach grumbled. "Man, I just remembered I didn't have breakfast," he said to himself. He then lifted a finger with a smile, a lightbulb comically appearing above his head.

"I know, I'll try that new croissant recipe Mother taught me last week." Adrien dashed to the kitchen, opened a cabinet, and took out several ingredients. He then proceeded to dump them one by one in a bowl, and stir them aggressively, spilling mix all over the kitchen counter.

Once the batter hardened into dough, Adrien shaped it into several crescent pieces. He popped them into the oven, set a timer, cleaned the counter, and gave Plagg belly rubs while he waited.

When the timer beeped, Adrien opened the oven and took out the freshly baked croissants. Adrien took in a whiff, smiling at the aroma of the croissants.

He then noticed a particular spot on the wall that hasn't been painted yet. Adrien put the tray of croissants down on the counter, picked up Plagg, and held him up, getting inspiration for what, or rather who, he was going to paint next.

Adrien put the cat back down, ran to his bedroom, grabbed his paints and brushes, rushed back to the kitchen to the area of the empty wall, and stroked the wall back and forth with black paint.

"After lunch, it's puzzles and darts and baking,

Paper mache, origami and chess,

Pottery and calligraphy, candle making,

Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch,

Swing around, play fetch,

And I'll reread the books,

If I have time to spare

I will fence some more,

I'm sure there's improvement there

Then I'll brush and brush and brush and brush my hair,

Stuck in the same place I've always been

And I'll keep wondering and wondering and wondering and wondering,

when will my life begin?"

Adrien stuck the last piece in his jigsaw puzzle, pleased that it's finally complete. Not a minute later, Plagg walked across it and spread the pieces all over the floor, waving his tail in Adrien's face. Adrien sighed, giving Plagg a deadpan glare. The dark-furred feline just licked his paw and walked off.

Later, Adrien tossed darts at a target hanging on the wall. After a few tries, he managed to shoot one in the center. Adrien jumped with joy, accidentally throwing one of the darts in the air, sticking to the ceiling.

Adrien walked out of the kitchen, balancing several plates of macaroons on his arms.

Plagg jumped on his shoulders. The macaroons go flying. Adrien catches them back on the plates as they come down.

Adrien lifted a paper covered balloon out of the glue water. The balloon was shaped like a lantern. Plagg tried to lick the glue water, then coughed up a hairball on the floor when he realized that wasn't for drinking.

Adrien folded a second wing on a paper butterfly. He placed it on the floor, scattered with paper butterflies, swans, and other pieces of origami.

Adrien sat cross-legged in front of Plagg, looking over the chess board and thinking of his next move. He moved a pon in front of Plagg's king, trapping it in a corner.

"Checkmate." Adrien said with a smile. Plagg swatted his paw across the board, knocking all the chess pieces over.

Adrien held a clay pot still as it spun on a potter's wheel. He ran his fingers across the edges of the pot, carving outlines of butterflies, feathers, and other symbols.

Adrien dipped the tip of a peacock feather into a jar of ink. He gently pressed it against a sheet of paper and, in fancy cursive, wrote Adrien across the page. Plagg dipped his paw in the ink and stuck it on the paper, leaving a paw print.

"Great signature, Plagg." Adrien complimented. "It looks purrfect." he giggled at his own joke.

Adrien slowly pulled out a candle out of a waxing pot. A million more candles surrounded Adrien as he made them. Plagg pushed one, and the candles all fell down one by one like dominos.

Adrien stretched his hands up above his head, then reached down and touched his toes with his fingertips. Plagg, who was licking himself clean, looked up and watched.

Adrien scribbled an outline of a butterfly with a pen on his notepad. For some reason that Adrien could not put a finger on, the butterfly symbol felt important to him, like it defined him somehow.

Adrien swung back and forth across the room, holding onto his hair like a swing.

Adrien threw a ball of yarn across the room. Plagg ran and pounced on it, getting himself tangled in the strands of yarn.

Adrien lay upside down on the bed, rereading one of his books. His hair across the bed, dragged down the floor and stretched outside his bedroom door.

Adrien stabbed the air with his sword. "Sharp dodge, fellow knight." he said to his imaginary opponent. Adrien gripped the handle and slashed left and right, making an invisible X in the air. "Looks like I'm finally getting a good grip on this properly." he said, chuckling to himself.

Adrien picked up a wooden hairbrush and started stroking his long golden hair, making sure there aren't any knots. A couple hairs later, he finally brushed the last few strands, and let out a heavy sigh. "What would I give for a haircut sometimes."

He sighed again, remembering Mother Natalie's words. "Adrien, you have a gift. Many people would give anything to have magic hair with healing abilities like yours. That makes you really special. Always remember that."

Adrien grabbed big strands of hair and tossed them in the air, letting them fall back to the ground. He flopped on the floor, sighing again.

"I know I'm special Mother, but life is so boring here. There are so many things I want to see. Can't I see the world, just one time?" he asked himself.

Adrien sat up and looked at the painting of the floating lights, wondering.

"Tomorrow night

The lights will appear

Just like they do on my birthday every year,"

Adrien stood up and turned to the window, a curious expression in his bright green eyes.

"What is it like

Out there where they glow,"

Adrien walked up to the window and leaned his elbows on the windowsill, staring off into the distance.

"Maybe now that I'm older

Mother might just,

Let me go."

Author's note: What's up, beautiful readers. I made some slight changes in the song to fit Adrien's character, and like I said in the disclaimer, I owe nothing but my imagination. Next chapter, we will meet our "knight in a shiny suit" if you catch my drift :). Until then, leave reviews & suggestions, follow your dreams, and have a great day.
