Chapter 2
In the distance, the sun's rays shine on the Agreste Palace, making it shine brightly.
The camera cut to the edge of a roof, where three women, one by one, slid down to the edge of a roof and jumped to the next rooftop, each one wearing different colorful jumpsuits.
The first young lady, with dark blue hair tied in pigtails by red ribbons, wears a bright red suit with black polka dots all over it. A red, black polka-dotted mask frames her bluebell eyes. Tiny red, black polka-dotted stud earrings pierced her ears. She swung a yoyo, which was the same color scheme as her outfit, towards the next rooftop, the string wrapping around a pole, and pulled herself up.
The second lady, with red hair with white tips, wears an orange and white suit, a fox tail sticking out from the rear. A white and orange mask frames her brown eyes. A white and orange pendant in the shape of a fox tail sat around her neck. She carried a staff, which was the same colors as the rest of her outfit and used it to jump onto the next rooftop.
The third lady, with blond hair tied in a curly ponytail, wears a black and yellow suit. A yellow and black mask frames her sky-blue eyes. A black and yellow barrette in the shape of a bee was clipped to her hair. She stretched out her arms, a pair of round, silver wings grew from her back, and flew to the next rooftop.
All three ladies landed on the rooftop of one of the palace rooms, and made their way to the roof window. The third lady pulled out a jar of honey and used it to loosen the window briggs. While the second and third lady pulled the window glass off, the first lady was looking into the distance of the kingdom's town, taking in the view.
"Wow, I can get used to a sight like this." she said, admiring the view. She smiled, showing off a pair of shiny white teeth. "Yeah, I'm used to it. Ladies, I want a castle." she said to the others.
"You can get one when the job is done." the lady in the orange and white suit replied.
She grabbed her friend's shoulder and pulled her to the window.
Using her yoyo string as a rope, the first lady quietly lowered herself down to the room, where a golden crown with black jewels sat on a pedestal.
Standing a few feet in front of the pedestal were several guards, their backs to the pedestal, each one wearing silver armor with a butterfly symbol embroidered on them and holding a metal spear.
One guard's nose twitched, and he let out a sneeze.
"Spring allergies?" the first lady asked casually, holding the crown in one hand and the yoyo string in the other.
"Yeah." the guard answered, not realizing the situation.
A minute later, the guard's eyes widened. "Wait."
He looked up to see the two other ladies pull the first lady up and out of the window.
"Hey! Wait!"
The other guards turned around and looked up to the window.
The ladies took off running, jumping from rooftop to rooftop to get away from the palace.
"Why did you speak to that guard!?" the lady in the bee suit scolded. "Now the calvary will come after us!"
"Oh, come on, Chloe, it was humorous." the lady in the fox suit replied.
"I told you, It's Queen Bee, Fox!" Chloe snapped.
"Sorry, didn't mean to bee rude, Princess of the Hives." the fox lady said mockingly, receiving a glare.
The trio landed on a cobblestone bridge and ran along the railings.
"Crown taken in and out, and it's only 8:00 in the morning!" the lady in the ladybug suit exclaimed. "Ladies, this is a very big day!"
"This is a very big day, Plagg!" Adrien said excitedly, picking up the kitty and holding him up like Simba. "I'm finally going to do it. I'm gonna ask her."
"Adrien, let down your hair." Mother Natalie's voice called out.
"It's time." He put Plagg down, walked over to the window, and took a deep breath. "You can do this Adrien, show Mother that you are responsible enough to see the world." he told himself.
"Adrien, I'm not getting any younger down here." Mother Natalie called out again.
"I'm coming, Mother." Adrien called back.
Adrien grabbed a handful of hair, wrapped it around a hook wheel, and lowered it down to the ground.
Mother Natalie wrapped the hair around her waist and feet, then tugged the hair slightly, signaling to Adrien to pull her up.
Adrien grabbed his hair and pulled, lifting Mother Natalie up to the tower window.
"Hello there, Mother." Adrien greeted her politely.
"Adrien," Mother Natalie entered the room and gave Adrien a hug. "How you manage to pull me up every single day, I will never understand. It must be exhausting."
"Oh, it's nothing." Adrien shrugged modestly.
Well if it's nothing, then it should not take so long." Mother Natalie said teasingly.
Seeing Adrien frown at this, she smiled and with a wave of her hand, said. "Adrien, you know I am only teasing."
Adrien let out a small laugh, as he always fell for his mother's teasing. Though sometimes, he secretly thought there was more meaning to what she said than meets the eye.
As Mother Natalie took off her hood, Adrien started to say. "Mother, I was wondering-"
"Adrien," Mother Natalie interrupted. "Look here." she directed his attention to a mirror on the wall. "Do you know what I see? I see a strong, talented, wonderful being, the fairest of them all."
Adrien smiled. He has gotten stronger with his fencing, and his piano-playing skills seem to finally be acknowledged.
"Oh look, you're here too." Mother Natalie said with a laugh.
Adrien frowned again, realizing that all those compliments were meant for Mother Natalie.
"Darling, I'm joking, don't take everything so seriously." she said with a dismissive gesture.
Adrien decided to let slide. "Alright. Anyways, Mother, I've been thinking that perhaps tomorrow-
"My Feather," Mother Natalie interrupted again, seeing a few grey strands creeping in the corners of her dark blue hair. "Mother is feeling a little light-headed. Will you sing to me?"
"Oh, of course, Mother," Adrien replied, rushing to grab a stool.
He sat Mother Natalie down on a chair, placed some strands of hair and a brush in her hand, sat on his stool, and hurriedly sang.
"Feathergleamandglow,
Letyourpowerfly,
Maketheclockreverse,
Bringbackwhatoncewasmine-"
"Wait, wait!" Mother Natalie said, the singing being way too fast.
With each word, the glowing flow of Adrien's hair rushed from strand to strand.
"Healwhathasbeenhurt,
Changethefate'sdesign,
Savewhathasbeenlost,
Bringbackwhatoncewasmine,
Whatoncewasmine."
Mother Natalie consumed the magic from the glowing hair, making the grey hairs turn back to their natural dark blue shade.
"Adrien, slow down-"
"So, Mother, earlier I told you tomorrow is a big day, and you didn't say anything, so I'm just gonna say it. It's my birthday!" he said, doing jazz hands.
Mother Natalie shook her head. "No, no no, I specifically remember: Your birthday was last year."
"That's the funny thing about birthdays, they are kind of an annual thing." Adrien explained.
"Look Mother, I'm turning 18, and there is something I really want for this birthday, actually I've been wanting this for a long timeā¦"
"Adrien, stop with the mumbling. You know how I feel about the mumbling. Blah blah blah blah blah." Mother Natalie scolded. She then smiled. "I'm kidding dear, please continue."
She got up and started unpacking supplies she got from town.
Adrien caught Plagg staring at him from the corner of the room with a look that said. "Do it."
"I want to go see the floating lights!" he blurted out.
"What?" Mother Natalie asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I was hoping you would take me to see the floating lights." Adrien said, pointing at the painting.
"Oh, you mean the stars." Mother Natalie exclaimed.
"That's the thing." Adrien ran to the corner of the room, grabbed a rolled up paper from a shelf, and unrolled it across the room, revealing a star chart.
"See, all the stars in the sky are constant, appearing in the same place every night. But those lights," he gestures back to the painting. "They only appear on my birthday. I can't put a finger on it, but my heart tells me those lights are somewhat meant for me. I need to see them, Mother. Not just from the window, but in person. I must know what they are. So please, will you take me to see them?"
Mother Natalie's expression darkened, knowing this moment would come.
"You want to go outside?" she said more like a statement than a question. "Oh, Adrien."
She walked up to the window and shut it, dimming the light in the room.
She walked up to Adrien and took his hands in hers.
"Look at you, fragile as a feather,
You know why we stay up in this tower"
"But-" Adrien tried to protest.
"That's right, to keep you safe and sound,
I always knew this day was coming,
Soon you would want to spread your wings and leave the nest,
Soon, but not yet,
Trust me pet,
Mother knows best"
Mother Natalie pulled a lever on the wall, closing the ceiling window and turning off all the lights in the room, leaving Adrien in pitch blackness.
Adrien lit a candle and looked around, trying to see where his mother went.
"Mother knows best,
Listen to your mother,
It's a scary world out there"
Mother Natalie appeared next to him, her arms raised in a scary gesture, startling Adrien. He stumbled backwards, dropping the candle.
"Mother knows best,
One way or another,
Something will go wrong, I swear"
He then felt a tug at his hair, pulling him forwards. Adrien tripped on a carpet on the floor, falling right into Mother Natalie's arms. She then disappeared into the darkness again, and shadows of different dangers appeared on the floor near Adrien.
"Criminals, thugs,
Poison ivy, quicksand,
Cannibals and snakes,
The plague, yes,
Large bugs, men with razor sharp teeth,
"Mother, stop, you're scaring me."
Adrien wrapped himself in his hair, frightened by these outside dangers.
Mother Natalie, now wearing her hood, re-appeared beside him and ruffled his hair.
She helped him up to his feet and took his hands in her palms.
"Mother is right here,
Mother will protect you,
Darling, here is what I suggest"
She then vanished again, making Adrien panic.
He frantically looked around the dark room.
Mother Natalie was now on the stairs, a million candles lit, one on each step.
She slowly walked down the steps, her hands raised.
"Skip the drama,
Stay with mama,
Mother knows best"
With a wave of her hood, Mother Natalie made the candles go out one by one.
Adrien struck a match and re-lit the candles.
Mother Natalie followed, putting them out.
"Mother knows best,
Take it from your mommy,
On your own, you won't last,"
Adrien then found himself in front of the mirror, his reflection staring back at him.
Mother Natalie appeared behind the mirror, putting her bony fingers on the glass.
"Sloppy, underdressed,
Immature, clumsy,
Please, they will eat you alive"
Mother Natalie directed the mirror to Adrien's pants, showing his thighs.
Adrien hovered his hands over his thighs in attempt to cover them up.
He tripped over his hair, falling onto his back.
Mother Natalie rolled him across the room, wrapping him in his hair like a burrito.
"Gullible naive,
Positively eccentric,
Dizzy and a little bit vague,
Plus, getting kind of chubby,
I'm only saying these things because I love you,
She unwrapped him and put a hand on his shoulder.
"Mother understands,
Mother is here to help you,
All I have is one request"
Mother Natalie turned him around and looked at him dead in the eye. "Adrien, don't ask to leave this tower again."
Adrien slumped his shoulders in defeat and nodded. "Yes, Mother."
Mother Natalie smiled and pulled him into a hug. "I love you very much, sweetheart."
"I love you more." Adrien said, hugging her back.
"I love you most." She concluded.
"Don't forget it,
You'll regret it,
Mother knows best."
Author's Note: Salutations, beautiful readers. I looked back at the first song, and thought it must be weird to read the song lyrics, and then the action sequence. So, for this second song, I broke the song into parts and put the action pieces separately with their song lyrics. Let me know if this way is better. In the end, I'm the one who decides. After all, the "author knows best:)" Review/Suggest, and have a great day.
