Chapter 4

"A girl." Adrien's eyes widened. "It's a girl!"

Plagg, who had woken up from a nap, walked over to the strange girl and began sniffing her.

"Plagg, get away from her." Adrien warned. "She could be dangerous."

Plagg ignored Adrien and continued sniffing the stranger.

Cautiously, Adrien approached her and examined her face. To his surprise, the girl had a nice fair complexion and silky dark blue hair. She wore round, stud earrings with a black polka-dot pattern on them, red ribbons in her hair, and a red and black mask around her eyes. She was quite pretty in Adrien's eyes, and didn't seem dangerous at all.

Suddenly, a beeping sound was heard coming from the girl's earrings.

Adrien stepped back, startled, holding his sword out in front of him. Plagg jumped, startled as well, and ran behind Adrien, tail between his legs.

The earrings beeped a few more times, then the girl's costume and mask disappeared, and a tiny furry bug-looking creature appeared, floating above the girl.

"Woah! A tiny genie thing!" Adrien said curiously.

"Um,hello." the bug creature waved and flew in front of Adrien. "Sorry for intruding, I can explain everything."

Plagg hissed at it and let out a warning meow.

"Stand down, Plaggg." Adrien said, remembering that he still had strangers in his tower.

He looked at the floating fairy. "Who are you-well, what are you and how did you find my tower?"

"I'm a kwami, and my name is Ticki." the bug fairy explained. "Marinette stumbled upon your tower completely by accident."

"Marinette?" Adrien asked, raising an eyebrow.

"My master." Ticki gestured to the girl still unconscious on the floor.

"Why are you and your master here?" Adrien asked. "Have you come for my hair?"

"What? No. Why would we want your hair?" Ticki said. "We just needed a place to hide. We kinda stole something important, and we had guards chasing us."

"Do you mean this?" Adrien held up the satchel. "What is so important about a bag?"

"Not the bag, it's what's inside that's important." Ticki said.

Adrien reached into the satchel and pulled out the crown. His eyes widened at it. He felt like he knew this crown, even though he has never seen it in his life.

"It's beautiful." Adrien said. "So, this is what your master stole?"

"Yes." Ticki admitted meekly.

Adrien looked over to the mirror on the wall. He placed the crown on his head and gasped. The crown fit on his head perfectly, the black and green jewels sparkled brightly. He looked like a prince.

"Wow." Ticki gasped. "It's as if it was made for you."

"Adrien!" Mother Natalie's voice called out, breaking the moment. "Let down your hair!"

Adrien's eyes widened. "I'll be right there, Mother!" he turned to face the kwami. "Quick, into the closet before she sees you."

"What?" Ticki asked.

Adrien grabbed Marinette by the arms and dragged her over to a closet, shoving her inside.

"We will continue this later." Adrien grabbed the kwami, shoved her into the closet, and closed the door. Adrien leaned on the door with a sigh. "This is crazy. I have a girl and a fairy thing in my closet. I have a girl and a fairy thing in my closet! Too weak to handle myself, huh Mother? Well, I'll show you!"

"Adrien!"

Adrien walked over to the window. Mother Natalie stood below, a basket in her hand.

"Well, don't keep me waiting! I have a surprise for you!" Mother Natalie called out.

"I do too!" Adrien replied as he tossed his hair around the hook and lowered it down to Mother Natalie.

"I bet mine's better!" Mother Natalalie said in a singsong voice, wrapping the hair around herself.

"I really doubt it." Adrien pulled her up to the window and greeted her with his usual smile.

Mother Natalie held up the basket, revealing her surprise. "I'm making camembert soup. Your favorite. Surprise!"

Adrien smiled and walked over to the closet. "Mother, I have something to tell you-"

"Oh Adrien, I hate to leave after a fight. You know I'm only doing what is best for you." Mother Natalie interrupted.

"Mother, please listen. I have been thinking about what you said earlier-"

"Don't tell me you're still thinking about the stars." she said.

"The floating lights." Adrien corrected. "And yes, I'm getting to that-"

"My feather, I thought we resolved that problem." Mother Natalie said in an annoyed tone.

"No, Mother, what I'm trying to say is that you don't believe I can handle myself out there and-"

"Adrien, I know you can't handle yourself out there." She replied.

"But Mother if you would just listen-"

"Adrien, this conversation is over."

"But Mother-"

"Adrien, let it go."

"Mother, please-"

"Enough Adrien! You are not leaving this tower! Ever!"

Her voice echoed through the tower walls. Then silence.

Adrien's eyes widened. Mother Natalie never raised her voice at him before. He removed his hand from the closet handle and looked up at the mural on the wall. With a sigh, he walked up to Mother Natalie. "I'm sorry, Mother."

"No, I'm sorry." Mother Natalie said, giving him a hug.

"Mother, I think I know something else I want for my birthday." Adrien said.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Some new paints, like the ones you got me on my last birthday." Adrien said.

Mother Natalie sighed. "Adrien, that is a long trip. Three days at most."

"I just thought it was better than...the lights." Adrien said.

Mother Natalie nodded. 'Very well."

Adrien helped her pack some food and water in her basket for the trip.

Mother Natalie put on her hood and walked over to the window. "Are you sure you will be okay on your own?"

"I will be safe as long as I stay in the tower." Adrien replied.

"Very good." Mother Natalie hugged him. "I'll be back in three days. I love you, Adrien."

"I love you too." Adrien returned the hug.

Adrien wrapped his hair around the window hook and lowered Mother Natalie down to the ground.

"I'll see you soon, my feather." Mother Natalie waved goodbye, then made her way into the woods.

As soon as she was out of sight, Adrien turned to the closet and to his surprise, Ticki was floating a few feet away.

"I heard everything." The kwami said.

"How did you get out?" Adrien asked.

"Kwamis can faze through walls and objects." Ticki explained. 'But that's beside the point. What are you gonna do with my master?"

Adrien folded his arms. "You and your master are going to help fulfill a dream of mine."

Adrien wrapped his hair around the closet handle and pulled. The door opened, and a still unconscious Marinette tumbled out.

Adrien grabbed a chair and set it in the middle of the room. He dragged Marinette to the chair and tied her to the chair with his hair.

Adrien picked up his sword and grabbed Ticki, preparing to interrogate the stranger.

Plagg jumped on Marinette's shoulder and licked her face. Marinette opened her eyes with a groan. "Ow, my head. What happened?" Marinette looked down, her eyes widened. "Wait, is this...hair?"

Struggling is pointless." Adrien started.

Marinette looked up to see a boy with long blonde hair and green eyes looking back at her, her eyes widened in shock. He held Ticki in one hand and pointed a sword at her in the other.

"I have your fairy friend." Adrien continued, trying to sound intimidating. "So, I suggest you listen carefully. Who are you and how did you find me?"

Marinette, still in shock, just kept staring at Adrien, taking in his appearance. She had seen many guys before, but none were as handsome as the guy trying to interrogate her right now.

"I..well, you see…" Marinette stammered.

Adrien cleared his throat. "Answer me. Who are you and how did you find me?"

"Do what he says." Ticki said.

Marinette quickly blinked away her shock and tried to sound confident. "My name is Mari-Ladybug, and I was looking for a place to hide since I stole something important...wait a minute." She looked around. "Where is my satchel?"

"I've hidden it." Adrien said. "Somewhere you will ever find it."

Marinette spotted a pot in the corner of the room and gestured her head towards it. "It's in that pot, isn't it?"

*Bang*

Marinette slowly opened her eyes again and turned her eyes to see Plagg sticking his tongue in her ear.

"Ugh!" She jerked her head away, startling Plagg, who jumped away from her. "Would you stop that?"

"Now it's hidden where you will never find it." Adrien said, still holding Ticki with a firm grip.

Marinette looked around but couldn't see potential hiding places for the satchel anywhere.

"Now, look at me and listen." Adrien said, pointing the blade of his sword under Marinette's chin. "What do you want with my hair? To cut it? To sell it?"

"What? No." Marinette said. "I...all I want with your hair is to get out of it. Literally."

Adrien raised an eyebrow. "Wait. You don't want my hair?"

"No, why would I want your hair?" Marinette said. "Like I said before, I was being chased, I saw your tower, I climbed it, and that brings us to this situation."

"I told him the same thing." Ticki said.

"Quiet fairy, or I'll feed you to Plagg." Adrien warned.

Plagg hissed again at Ticki, his tail and fur sticking up.

"You're telling the truth?" Adrien asked, moving his sword away.

"Yes." Marinette said. "Now, will you please let go of my kwami?"

Adrien looked at Marinette, then at Ticki, then back at Marinette. "I need a minute."

Adrien dropped his sword, picked up Plagg, and turned away from Marinette.

"What do you think, Plagg? Is she telling the truth?" Adrien asked.

Plagg meowed in agreement.

"I think so too. Since Mother will be gone for a few days, she can take me." Adrien said.

Plagg meowed again as if to say yes.

Adrien nodded and turned back around to face Marinette. "Alright, Ladybug, I'm willing to offer you a deal."

"A deal?" Marinette questioned. "What deal?"

Adrien put Plagg down, picked up his sword and spun Marinette around to face the painting on the wall.

"Do you know what these are?" Adrien asked, gesturing to the painting.

"You mean the lantern thing they do for the prince?" Marinette said.

"Lanterns. I knew they weren't stars!" Adrien said excitedly. Remembering that he was in the middle of explaining the deal, he cleared his throat. "Well, tomorrow evening, these lanterns will appear again." He pointed his sword at her. "You will act as my guide, take me to see these lanterns, and return me safely back to the tower. Then, and only then, will I give you back your bag. That is my deal."

"Yeah, sorry, no can do." Marinette replied. "The kingdom and I are not exactly on good terms right now, so I'm not taking you anywhere."

"Mari-Ladybug, she just offered you a good deal." Ticki said.

"I said be quiet, Micki." Adrien tightened his grip.

"It's Ticki-nevermind." She quickly stopped talking when Plagg hissed again.

"Something brought you here, Ladybug." Adrien said, pulling her towards him with his hair. "Call it fate, destiny-"

"A horse." Marinette said.

"So, I have made the decision to trust you." Adrien continued.

"A horrible decision, if you ask me." Marinette said.

"But trust me when I say this." Adrien pointed his sword at her again, trying to sound intimidating. "You can break this tower apart, brick by brick. But without my help, you will never find your precious bag."

"Satchel." Marinette corrected.

"Whatever it is, I will give it back to you only if you take me to see the lanterns. I promise. And I never break my promises." Adrien said.

Marinette took a moment to think about this. If what the boy says is true, and he will give back the satchel afterwards, then it should not be too difficult to fulfill his request.

"Fine, I'll do it." Marinette replied.

"Really!?" Adrien said excitedly.

"Yes, now can I please get out of your hair?" Marinette said.

"Oh right." Adrien spun the chair around, unwrapping his hair. He released his grip on Ticki, who flew over to Marinette.

"Are you alright?" Marinette asked her kwami.

"I'm fine." Ticki turned to face Adrien. "By the way, you never told us your name."

"It's Adrien." Adrien said.

"Well, Adrien," Marinette said. "Let's go."
