Wayne tower stood in the heart of Gotham City, overlooking the large city and its neighboring home of Metropolis over the separating river. A taxi cab pulled up to the curb and a man exited the vehicle, thanking the driver and entering the building. The man approached the front desk and chatted up the receptionist. The woman firmly pressed her glasses against her nose and hummed, "May I have your name?"
"John Stewart. I have an appointment with Bruce Wayne?"
"Mr Stewart, one moment," the woman tapped away at her computer, "Ah yes right here, appointment with Mr Wayne. I'll let him know you have arrived."
"Thank you." John gave the woman a smile
Bruce Wayne's floor was one of the higher up rooms. It had the best outlook of Gotham and that's what he preferred. Even when it wasn't night he had his eyes over his beloved city. The elevator tinged and John got off, baring a visible visitor badge as he entered into the room. Bruce was behind his desk, back turned towards the window. "Well if it ain't so. Bruce Wayne in full glory, you know at first when I heard you wanted to see me I thought it was some practical joke." John chuckled, approaching the desk. Bruce hadn't responded, his body language firm but relaxed. The man turned towards John and took a seat, gesturing for him to sit down as well.
"John Stewart. Thank you for agreeing to meet with me. I know it seems out of nowhere, but I've kept up with you before. You have impressive credentials, military experience, helped out Gotham through a refugee crisis, brought on to a Ferris Air exclusive project.."
"You have done your research. What does this character autopsy of me have to do with anything? With all due respect, why am I here?" John asked politely, raising a curious brow.
"You see John that's barely scratching the service. I wasn't the only one watching you it seems. That attack on the base, no normal human would be able to fight off a invader from space."
"How do you know about that?" John got a little defensive, narrowing his eyes. The attack at the Ferris Air base was heavily covered up. Only a few held that information.
"An anonymous tip. I know about the ring and I know you bare it."
"That's a pretty bold assumption." John laughed, wondering what the hell was going on.
"It would be an assumption if the fact you hadn't mentioned that it would be unnatural for me to know that the attack was covered up. Not to mention you didn't keep eye contact with me when I said it." Bruce replied.
"What's your game here?" John stood up from the chair and leaned over the desk, peering directly into Bruce's eyes.
"You aren't the only one with secrets. My intentions aren't malicious, please, sit back down and let me tell you about what i'm working on."
John reluctantly sat down, taking a breath and calming himself down. Bruce had expected this type of reaction, in John's shoe he would've reacted similarly. It wasn't an attempt to put him on blast but rather to see if what he had heard was the truth. Bruce had a plan, and he wasn't alone on this. His own two partners were in on it as well and making moves similar to his own at the very moment he sat with John. John was a piece in a larger puzzle.
In the brighter city of Central City, a van soared down the street at a fast pace, swerving all around and causing a big chaotic road block carnage. No one would be hurt in the mess the villains caused, the resident speedster Flash was on pursuit. Electricity crackling off his body, The Flash swiftly sped around and rescued each citizen in a car or near any danger. Ensuring each one was safe, Flash continued trailing after the van and pried the backdoors open. A cold beam blasted him by surprise and he tripped over his foot, colliding onto the ground. "Woah! Cool down Flash, you need to slow your roll!"
"It looks like he's getting a little heated in the head Leo!"
Captain Cold and Heatwave cackled madly, keeping Flash busy while the getaway driver continued down the street. The car jerked to a screeching halt and Captain Cold, Heatwave, fell back onto the floor of the van. "What the hell!" Heatwave cursed.
"Ugh, I was specific about speed bumps. We aren't killers dammit!" Captain Cold grunted, assuming they hit someone.
The driver didn't answer and stared out the front window in fear at the person who had stopped them. S emblem. Red tights. Single curl hanging over the forehead. It wasn't a bird nor a plane, it was Superman. The golden boy put his hands on his sides and grinned, "Sorry gentlemen but that's as far as this ride will take you."
The Flash caught up and stopped in awe, gawking at Superman. "You- Superman- I- big fan.." He ran around Superman and beamed with excitement. The man of steel smiled, finding the excitement of the hero to be flattering. His energetic level was clear to Superman. That's what the team would need, someone like himself to be the hopeful optimist.
"Flash. Might I say, I'm a fan of you myself. How about we take care of your pals first and then I'll explain why I have come."
Flash merely nodded, not able to formulate any words in that very moment.
Underwater was the prestige Atlantis. The kingdom was of marvelous design and spanned acres around the ocean floor. It was the home to King Arthur Curry and all of his people. The amazon herself, Diana Prince, had good relations with the king and the people of Atlantis, a mutual pact between her people of Themyscira and his.
Atlantean guards escorted Diana through the inside of the kingdom towards the throne room. Atlantis was bright and colorful with plenty of vibrant royal decor all around. Within the throne room were two large thrones, one for the King and the other for his Queen Mera. King Arthur sat in his throne and smiled warmly at the arrival of Diana. The Queen was also present, but behind her smile was caution. Mera trusted her and her husband's decisions, but she couldn't help but be skeptical. It was natural of her to be prepared for anything. "Diana, what a pleasant surprise. What brings you to my kingdom?" Arthur ignited the conversation.
"Thank you for having me Arthur, Mera," Diana bowed respectfully, "I come here on behalf of my friends. We are working on something big that we want you to be a part of."
"Friends?" Mera looked at her.
"Yes. The bat of Gotham and the Man of Steel."
"...Go on." Arthur was interested.
With the two criminals put away, Flash took Superman to his loft. It was his home, his makeshift headquarters. Inside were multiple different things, including monitors, some lounge items like cozy chairs and a ping pong table, a mini science lab with forensic equipment spread out on a table, and other things of the sort. "You can have a seat or look around if you want." Flash offered, grinning. Superman decided to look around briefly, finding his set up different, but in fairness he did live in an ice fortress. He observed a board with pieces from newspaper and other drawings taped together on it, catching a name that surprised him. Barry Allen.
Barry Allen had worked with his Clark Kent disguise in Metropolis a little while back. Barry Allen was a smart man with a strong sense of Justice, Clark admired that. Superman took a seat finally and looked Flash squarely in the eyes. "Me and some friends are putting together a team."
"And you want me on it?" Flash guessed immediately.
"It looks like your mind is as quick as you." Superman chuckled, nodding in confirmation.
"It's an honor to be even thought about for something like this. Me working with you? That's incredible."
"Me, Batman, and Wonder Woman too as well as some other potential members."
"Batman…. Wonder Woman….. When do we start?"
A limo pulled up outside of Wayne Tower and Bruce got inside with John. The driver started off towards Wayne Manor. "This team, does it have a name?" John asked Bruce.
"Names are superficial, right now the focus of this is teamwork and commitment." Bruce responded, not giving the idea of a name a thought.
"Right." John nodded.
The limo pulled up to Wayne Manor and the two men got out. Bruce led John inside the large manor and showed him around. Bruce's butler Alfred greeted them, "Welcome home Master Wayne. Master Stewart, may I offer you anything?"
"I'm alright, thank you."
"Woah, are we having a party or right?" A young boy poked his head over the railing of the stairwell, looking down.
"Not now Jason. Stay in your room for now." Bruce told the boy.
"No fun! But fine. Also i'm totally going to take that new fancy motorcycle for a joyride later!" Jason grinned and retreated back into the hallways.
"Alfred, remind me to hide the keys." Bruce shook his head and walked over to a grandfather clock.
"Is that your kid?" John chuckled, following him.
"Yes." Bruce replied simply, moving the clock aside to reveal the entrance to his cave.
"You're kidding." John looked shocked, stepping forward to go in.
"Welcome to my life." Bruce took him into the legendary cave.
The batcave was Batman's command center. The centerpiece of the cave was the supercomputer the masked vigilante used at his disposal, able to pull off a variety of technical things. The large cave housed many things that served Batman in his quests, including state of the art facilities such as specialized laboratories, mechanized workshops, crime lab, personal gym, a library, parking, docking, and hangar space for all of his vehicles. One of the first things in the cave when you entered was a row of glass cases housing different suits for Batman and Robin. The cave also had trophies from previous encounters, including a dinosaur statue and a giant novelty penny.
John looked around the cave, astonished at it's scale. "I never would've expected all of this." He admitted, looking at a glass case with the first Robin suit that belonged to Dick Grayson.
"Over the years it has expanded in impressive sizing." Bruce commented, used to it. Bruce did find it amusing to see the reactions of others when they first caught a glimpse of the cave. For him, he had been in it so often nothing phased him. Almost all of it was his own creation anyhow. Bruce and John approached the supercomputer where another man was waiting. This man wore a trenchcoat and fedora, hands in his pockets. The man shook hands with John and introduced himself, "John Jones. Welcome."
"Pleasure to meet you other John, what do you do?" John asked, not getting a feel of hero from the other man.
"Allow me to show you my true form."
The man began to shapeshift his body along with his clothing. J'onn in his true form was a martian, the last surviving one of his race. Martian Manhunter was the name he went by, being a green alien with red eyes and a suit with purple trunks, cape held up by golden cuffs, boots, and a X shaped sash across his chest. John was surprised at the transformation itself, but this wasn't the first alien he had encountered; John was a Green Lantern after all.
"I haven't come to meet someone of your race." John noted.
"I am the sole survivor. I am a Martian from Mars." J'onn explained.
"I'm sorry, that must be difficult."
"It is a sorrowful burden, but one I must not let define me. This world needs us, I won't let it succumb to the fate of mine."
"That is very noble of you." John smiled at the martian.
"If I may interrupt, but more guests have arrived." Alfred stood at the stairs, announcing the arrival of the others.
The batcave quickly filled up with other heroes. Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman, all in one room and on the same team. Taking the elevator to the lower floor of the batcave, Batman had a table set up for everyone. The seven each took a seat and Batman went over a briefing. "You have before you a renowned team of heroes. All of you contribute something to this team and that is why we need you. This team is an idea that can be much more. The world today faces many threats, and if we are to secure a better, safer world, we will have to put our skills and ability to the challenge. Together as one we can get more accomplished."
"All of you are brave heroes in your own right. Together we can fight for a safer tomorrow." Diana went next.
"I haven't worked with some of you before but I am happy to get to know you better and to be teammates. Atlantis and this is my home, if we have a chance of being better protected I will take the opportunity." Arthur was ecstatic.
The batcomputer alarm went off and echoed through the cave. The members looked around wondering what was going on. Batman got out of his seat and rushed back to the main floor, checking the computer. It was a voice message from Gordon and Dick, his original Robin. "One of the transfer buses was hijacked by inmates and crashed into the asylum. There running away going nuts, GCPD is on it but we're going to need some more back up." Dick's message said, cutting off. Batman took a deep breath and turned back to the elevator. It was time to assemble for the teams first fight.
The heroes, including Robin, arrived at the gates of Arkham Asylum, in full costumed glory. "Hold on, just need to get a pic of this iconic moment." Flash pulled out his phone and snapped a selfie with the team before they could respond. "Looks great guys. So, what's the plan?"
"The plan is to listen to me." Batman stepped forward and took front. "Wonder Woman, Superman, Martian Manhunter, you'll snuff out the possible exits and make sure no inmates escape. Me, Robin, Aquaman, and Green Lantern will take the lead and capture as many inmates as we can. Flash, you'll do a run around and get as many inmates back into their cells as possible. Are we clear?"
"Gotcha. Alright, Super Seven roll out!" Flash raced into the asylum.
"What did he just call us?" Said Green Lantern.
"Focus on the mission, let's move out!" Batman beconked them to take charge.
The team divided and began working on their roles.
Batman's team started in the yard. Aquaman and Green Lantern took flight, jumping in at the rushing inmates. Green Lantern made constructs to take down the inmates while Aquaman unleashed with his own brute strength, making sure to tone it down so he wouldn't kill any of them. Batman and Robin continued into the actual building.
One of the inmates ran at Batman with a makeshift knife out of a broken glass shard but he dodged and grabbed the inmates arm, pulling him into a viscous headbutt and knocking the inmate unconscious.
Nightwing was in the fray, joining up with Batman and Robin. Two inmates tried to attack but Dick went in with his escrima sticks, blocking a punch with one stick and knocking another inmate down with a stick strike to the knee. Another one tried to throw a punch but Nightwing blocked with crossed sticks then hit the inmate in the hip, followed by a quick succession of hits to the face. Robin leapt over Nightwing and dived bomb on a trio of inmates, taking them down with a fast fall.
Batman trailed deeper into the asylum and fought inmates along the way. Some inmates held guns from the security guards and fired at Batman, but his armor was more than enough to keep him protected as he beat them down.
Flash ran around the asylum and threw inmates back into their cells, shutting the doors and bars in rapid fashion. Along the way vines started shooting out of the ground and slowed him down. Poison Ivy perched on a vine looked down at the Flash with a flirtatious look. Flash was distracted but the sound of a charging weapon alerted him. Mr Freeze obtained his cold gun and tried to freeze Flash, but he moved out of the way and pushed him into a wall. "Another cold gun? Can't even get away from it in Gotham." Flash shook his head and focused on Ivy, aiming to take her down next.
In the armory department that held equipment from all of the villains, a woman with pale skin and blonde hair was rummaging through a box labeled "Mr J's stuff." Wonder Woman was there and confronted the inmate, "Yield now and return to your holding cell!"
"Are you kidding? No way. I'm kinda busy lady, I like your style though. My puddin is waiting on me!" The woman, Harley Quinn, giggled and ignored Diana.
Wonder Woman grabbed Harley's arm but she retaliated by throwing green puddy in her face which caught the amazon off guard. Wonder Woman staggered back and peeled at the goop covering her face. Harley grabbed the box and booked it out the back exit where the Jokers van was waiting. Harley got into the passenger seat and kissed her Mr J on the cheek. "Come on puddin, let's get out of here!" She laughed.
"Sit back Harley my dear, bumpy road ahead." Joker laughed and slammed on the pedal. The car didn't make any movement. "What the..?" Joker looked out the window in confusion.
"M-Mr J…!"
In front of their car Martian Manhunter phased from out of the floor and showed himself, crossing his arms. "It appears you are stranded."
Superman flew around the asylum and used his heat vision, frost breath, to patch up any potential exits. In time the chaos was dying down and the heroes were prevailing. Outside more inmates tried to escape but Aquaman and Green Lantern took care of them fast. Two inmates tried attacking Aquaman but he blocked with his raised gauntlet and dropped both with an elbow bash. Green Lantern flew to the front doors and made a green wall, keeping out any other potential runaways.
Batman and Wonder Woman met up to dispatch more inmates, fighting the likes of Clayface and Riddler along the way. "Good job." Wonder Woman smiled at him. Batman didn't reply, walking away back around the Asylum.
Flash won his fight over Poison Ivy and locked her up. The cellblock was lined up and locked with inmates. Flash made another sweep and then joined up with the other heroes who all meet in the main center of the Asylum. GCPD took over and made sure everything was under control.
The seven with Robin and Nightwing met with Gordon back at the police department to talk about the events that transpired that night. "How many of you are there?"
"Enough. For now." Batman answered.
"..Right. I've talked to the officials and Arkham is secure thanks to your efforts. We all thank you for what you contributed tonight."
"We shouldn't take all the credit, your officers helped us as well." Superman insisted.
"He's so cool." Flash whispered.
"This is the next big thing then?" Gordon directed at Batman. "What are you guys then? Some sort of Justice squad?"
"It's more like a league." Green Lantern mused.
"A Justice League…. That's perfect!" Flash exclaimed.
Batman shook his head, "We'll head out from here."
That night was the start of something special, something bigger than the world had yet seen. The Justice League was a team dedicated to fighting crime and injustice. They were earth's first line of defense, and the teachings that started with the original seven would pass on to new members. The seven was a start, from there it expanded. The Justice League would thrive and keep the world safe always.
