KARA'S P.O.V
Her baby cousin was sitting on her lap with her eyes closed as she hugged her tightly, just trying to keep her as calm as possible while her sister was taking a look at the wound.
"It looks great, kiddo" Alex said. "We're going to remove the staples and then we're going to take a look at your brain, okay?" her sister explained to the child, who shook her head in fear.
"I don't want to go inside the tube" Halley murmured as she sighed, knowing that they couldn't obligate her.
"Is there any other way we can do it?" she asked.
"We can use a sedative" Lena commented. "She would be asleep the whole time" her friend explained as she observed her cousin, it was their best option.
Halley flinched when the needle pierced her skin, keeping her embraced until the little one fell asleep with her head on her shoulder.
She remained with her cousin in her arms even when her sister told her to left her on the stretcher so she could remove the staples, only separating herself from the child while they were doing the scanner.
"It healed perfectly, there's no trace of damage because of the kryptonite" Alex explained as she sighed relieved that her baby cousin was alright, caressing the child's face without avoiding a smile. "Kara, about tonight, I'm not going to be able to stay with Halley. Kelly had already planned a date" her sister told her.
"Don't worry, it's okay" she smiled at her. "You've been staying with her a lot more times than you should have" she pointed out, because for the past few weeks she had only trusted her sister to stay with the little girl.
As soon as her cousin woke up and her sister made sure that the child was alright, she went back to the Tower.
"Mon-El!" the nine year old ran to her best friend ready to hug him, so she couldn't avoid smiling when she observed how the daxamite picked up the child.
"I see no bandage, it went well, huh?" he tickled the little girl, which got her cousin to giggle while nodding, but he was looking at her.
"Alex said that everything is fine, it's healed" she explained to him, seeing him smiled while kissing the kid's hair.
She sighed when she received William's message asking her about their date, not being able to avoid frowning while remembering that her sister wasn't able to stay with Halley during the night.
"Everything okay?" Mon-El asked.
"Yeah…" she answered, even though she was aware that he knew she was lying. "I have to cancel my date with William, she can't stay at Alex's" she told him, not meeting his gaze.
"She can stay with me" he offered her, to what she shook her head.
"No, you're moving to your new apartment, I don't…" she couldn't finish what she was saying since he interrupted her.
"It's okay" he assured her.
"Can I? Please" her baby cousin pleaded, looking directly into her eyes.
"If it's okay with you, then it's a yes" she ended up accepting the offer, observing how Halley smiled happily. "Can you pick her up around six?" she asked him.
"Yeah, I'll be there" Mon-El smiled.
Her cousin was waiting impatiently for Mon-El to come pick her up, already wearing her backpack and Saffire being held in between her arms.
She couldn't even stopped her from opening the door, but it was William who was waiting at the other side, getting the child to frown a little before smiling shyly.
"Hi, kiddo" William crouched to embrace the little girl, who accepted the hug. "Hey" he smiled at her, neither of them being sure of how they should greet each other.
"Hi" she smiled as he ended up approaching her to give a quick kiss on her lips. "We have to wait until Mike comes to pick her up" she told him, seeing him nodded slightly as Halley showed him the Lego set, he had gifted her, all built.
"Did you build it by yourself?" he asked her cousin.
"Kara helped a little bit" the child answered sincerely.
"She's honest" William commented while looking at her, to what she nodded, since it was true.
The nine year old smiled widely the moment someone knocked on the door, her blue eyes shining brightly when she opened the door to let Mon-El walked inside the apartment.
Halley didn't waste any time to jump into his arms, which made her smile, she had missed those little moments.
"She has everything she needs in her backpack" she told him while taking her cousin from his arms. "Behave, okay?" she asked the child, who nodded. "I love you so much, baby" she kissed her forehead before embracing her with all the strength she could.
"I love you too" her cousin buried her face in her shoulder.
She left the kid on the floor, seeing how Halley grabbed Comet's leash and held Mon-El's hand, being ready to leave.
"I'll see you tomorrow, baby" she ruffled her cousin's hair, being a little bit afraid since it was the first time, after a long time, the little girl was staying with Mon-El.
HALLEY'S P.O.V
"Good morning, kiddo" Mon-El smiled at her as she sat down on one of the stools by the kitchen island. "Have you slept well?" he asked, kissing the top of her head, getting her to nod as she rubbed her eyes, still waking up.
"Pancakes!" she exclaimed happily the moment she saw them, not even waiting to start eating. "Thank you" she told him with her mouth full.
"Don't thank me, sweetie" Mon-El asked her while eating his breakfast as well.
She tried to get ready all by herself, but not really being able to style her hair, which made her frowned upon a little bit frustrated.
"Do you need help, Hal?" Mon-El approached her. "It can't be that hard, right?" he asked her, getting her to giggle.
He brushed her hair before making the attempt of doing a ponytail, but not getting it, so he ended up trying to make two little ponytails at the top of her head, the rest of her hair down.
"Thanks" she hugged him, Mon-El hugging her back. "Love you" she whispered with her face buried in his shoulder.
"Love you, too, kiddo" he whispered back, kissing her forehead.
Mon-El was supposed to take her to CatCo by lunchtime, so until that they were going to go to the park with Comet before they would have to leave him at the Tower to pick him up later.
She couldn't be happier that he had finally come back, so she held his hand tightly with a huge smile on her face.
"Hey, sweetie" William smiled the moment they arrived at CatCo, so she smiled back, feeling how Mon-El tightened the strength with which he was holding her hand, kind of pulling her closer to him. "Kara is in a meeting with Andrea, but I can stay with Halley if you have to leave" her cousin's boyfriend offered.
"Um.., no, it's okay, I can wait a little longer with her" her best friend answered while gently brushing her brown hair away from her face.
It was kind of awkward being there in between them, with none of them really talking, so she couldn't avoid running toward her cousin the moment she saw her.
"Hi, baby" Kara embraced her. "Did you have fun?" her cousin asked her.
"We watched movies and ate popcorn, ice cream, candy…" she started enumerating. "And we went to the park!" she exclaimed excitedly.
"That's awesome, sweetie" Kara smiled, focusing her attention on the little ponytails. "Did Mon-El do your hair?" her cousin asked, to what she nodded.
"He helped me" she answered with a smile.
"Thank you for staying with her" her cousin told Mon-El.
"You know it's not a problem, she's an amazing child" he smiled, seeing how Kara smiled as well. "I'll see you later, sweetheart" her best friend embraced her as she nodded slightly.
KARA'S P.O.V
She found her cousin asleep on the couch at the Tower, Comet resting on the floor by the little girl's side.
"She fell asleep thirty minutes ago or so" her sister told her, so she nodded while approaching the kid. "Mon-El has managed to calm her down" Alex explained as she sighed, remembering that when she left her baby cousin was crying loudly because of a panic attack.
"I shouldn't have left" she murmured, feeling bad for not having been there for her baby cousin.
"Hey, it's okay, Supergirl was needed" Alex tried to make her feel better, but she shook her head. "She knew you had to leave, she's not going to hate you for it" her sister looked at her.
"I don't know about that, Alex" she shrugged, remembering the alternative time she had seen courtesy of Mxy, in which the child admitted hating the fact that she was Supergirl.
Deep down she knew she didn't spend as much time as she would like with the little one, so she couldn't blame her if Halley was upset with her, even if the child never showed it.
"You can take the day off tomorrow, no Supergirl duties" her sister commented, to what she closed her eyes.
"I can't, I have to do an interview tomorrow" she answered, knowing that Andrea wasn't going to allow her to take the day off. "I've already asked Mon-El to pick her up from Kelly's office and stay with her until it's done" she explained, seeing her sister face changed, a small smile drawn on it. "What?" she frowned.
"Nothing" her older sister shook her head. "It's just you two are doing really well co-parenting Halley" Alex finally told her, which she really tried to deny. "Come on, he looks after her when you can't and you always relay to him… You even asked him for advice when you don't know what to do" her sister's words made her look away as she hadn't realized that.
"I trust him and Halley does it too" she pointed out. "I know he would do anything for her" she explained. "Anyway, I should be taking them home" she pointed to her cousin and Comet.
"Okay, be safe, Kar" her sister hugged her a little before she could take the kid in her arms and Comet's leash. "Love you" Alex smiled the moment she was about to leave.
"Love you too" she answered back as the elevator's door closed.
She decided, even if she could fly, to walk back home, just to take a little more time to get there, holding tightly her sleeping baby cousin.
"Do you need any help?" William's voice scared her as she was trying to find the keys of her apartment, but she couldn't help the smile that appeared in her face.
"Um…" she doubted a little, but knowing that with Halley in her arms she wasn't going to be able to find her keys. "Can you hold her?" she asked him.
"Yeah, sure" he nodded while leaving the bag he was holding to take the kid in his arms, her cousin remaining asleep.
"Thanks" she smiled. "I didn't know you were coming" she told him while taking the leash off of Comet, picking the bag from the floor.
"I saw you fighting on the TV and I thought that you might be tired, so I brought dinner" he explained.
"You didn't have to" she looked at him, seeing him shake his head. "Chinese food, yay!" she exclaimed happily after peeking inside the bag.
William gently laid Halley down, observing how the little girl frowned a little so she approached her to put Saffire in between her arms, kissing her cousin's forehead before going back to the kitchen.
"You're worried about her, right?" he asked, to what she stared at him for a few seconds, she was still feeling sad that she hadn't been there during the panic attack.
"She had a panic attack and I wasn't there" she answered him, her voice cracking. "Mon… Mike calmed her down" she added, for a moment forgetting about Mon-El's secret identity. "And I know she's safe with him, but… I should've been there" she explained to him.
"Don't be that hurt to yourself" William told her. "You're always there for her and she knows that" he commented as her phone started ringing, frowning when her sister's name appeared on the screen.
"I have to answer it" she said before sitting up. "Alex, Is everything okay?" she asked directly, knowing that there weren't other reasons for her sister to call her.
"Put on the news" Alex told her, so she did, trying to remain calm the moment she read the headline. "I'm so sorry, Kara" her sister whispered as she shook her head.
"How is this possible?" she asked, still not being able to believe that Lex Luthor was being released from prison the next day.
"I don't know" her sister answered. "Apparently there wasn't anything that could relate him to Halley's kidnap and since we can't tell the whole truth…" Alex explained as fear controlled her, only thinking about protecting her baby cousin before it was too late.
"Kara…" it was William who named her, turning around to see that the little girl wasn't laying on the couch anymore, the nine year old was gone. "She flew away" he commented, to what she closed her eyes.
"She's gone, Alex" she told her sister, trying not to panic.
"Okay, calm down" her sister said. "I'm going to start looking for her, I'll call you, okay?" those words made her nodded as if Alex could see her, barely being able to whisper an answer before hanging up the call.
"I need to find her" she looked at William with tears in her eyes, not being able to imagine how scared Halley might be at that moment.
HALLEY'S P.O.V
She hugged herself to Mon-El's legs the moment he opened the door of his apartment, tears running down her cheeks as she tried to keep breathing normally.
"Halley?" he asked, kneeling down in front of her before wrapping his arms around her. "Hey, kiddo, What's wrong?" her best friend tried to pull her away, but she refused by gripping tightly to his t-shirt. "Come here, sweetheart" Mon-El picked her up to entered the apartment, her face hiding in his neck as she kept sobbing.
Her whole body tremble because of the fear, feeling how Mon-El tightened the embraced, gently rubbing circles on her back as he was trying to calm her down, but knowing that Lex was coming out of prison didn't help at all.
"Kiddo, you're going to have to tell what's going on if you want me to help you" her friend sat down on the couch, still keeping her close, but she didn't answer. "Does your cousin know you're here?" he questioned her, to what she shook her head, being aware that Kara had to be scared as well. "No? Then I have to call her, sweetie" Mon-El told her.
"No, please…" she murmured, getting him to look into her eyes for a few seconds before kissing her forehead.
"I'm sorry, Halley, but it's the right thing to do" he answered her as she frowned, closing her eyes in tears.
She didn't even move as she heard him talking to her cousin, starting to calm down a little, but still feeling unsafe as she knew that Lex would look for her again.
"He's not going to hurt you again, okay?" her best friend grabbed her chin so she would look at him, finding tears in his eyes. "I promise, little one" he kissed her forehead as her cousin landed in the apartment, her gaze barely meeting hers before snuggling closer to Mon-El.
"Oh, baby" Kara murmured while walking closer to them. "I'm so sorry, sweet angel" her cousin caressed her face as she couldn't avoid crying even louder. "I know, baby, I know" the older Kryptonian took her in her arms, embracing her as tightly as possible.
"I don't want to go back with him" she whispered in between sobs.
"You won't, baby, I'm not going to let him get to you" her cousin assured her, her voice shaking, Kara was crying as well. "I know you're scared, I am too, but we're in this together, okay?" Kara pulled her away a little, getting her to nod. "I promised to protect you and that's what I'm going to do no matter what" her cousin's calm voice managed to give her a little bit of hope, maybe that time they would be ready.
Hi!
I don't know why but I had a really hard time writing this chapter. It took me a long time to like where I was going, only being sure that I wanted to include the last scenes.
Thanks so much for reading, let me know what you think,
Ayrin
