HALLEY'S P.O.V
She held her cousin's hand tightly. Her head bowed down as they walked to the Kent's farm, where Clark was waiting for them at the door.
After a long night discussing what was best for her, which place was the safer, her cousin had ended up deciding for her to stay at the farm for a few day until they could be sure of what Lex's plans were.
"Hey, girls" Kal-El smiled at them as she sighed, not wanting to let go of Kara's hand as she gripped it tighter when they hug each other.
"I'm so sorry I called you so late at night" her cousin apologized.
"It's okay. Any idea of what he may be planning?" he asked, to what Kara shook her head. "But you really think he's going to try to find her" Clark commented.
"Yes. He tried to turned her into a weapon, I'm sure he's going to try it again" her cousin explained, barely looking at her as she frowned in tears.
"She's going to be safe here" Clark assured them, seeing how Kara nodded before kneeling down in front of her, moment at which she couldn't avoid crying.
"I want to stay with you" she sobbed as her cousin grabbed her hands in hers.
"I know, baby, but we've already talked about it" Kara told her, brushing her brown hair away from her face before gently wiping her tears. "You're going to be safe here with them, okay?" her cousin told her. "I'm going to come every day to see you and you can ask Clark to call me whenever you want, sweetie" at that moment she hugged herself at her still sobbing.
"What if he hurts you?" she asked, being scared of her cousin's safety as she knew how far Lex could go to get what he wanting.
"He won't" her cousin answered her, embracing her tightly. "I love you so much, baby girl" Kara whispered before kissing her forehead.
"I love you, too" she barely murmured shortly before her cousin got up.
She tried to wiped her tears when Kara leapt into the sky, seeing how she flew away as Clark crouched down next to her, hugging her lightly.
"It's going to be okay, kiddo" he assured her, to what she barely nodded. "Do you want to have breakfast?" he asked her, but she shook her head. "Okay, Lois and the twins are still asleep. I'm going to work a little at the barn" Kal told her.
"Can I help you?" she asked him, seeing him smile.
"Sure, sweetie" he answered.
After leaving her backpack at the house, she held Clark's hand tightly as both of them walked to the barn, not wanting to be alone at any time.
After a few minutes she heard a kitten meowing, so she walked away of him as she tried to find the baby cat.
"Clark, look, it's a kitten" she told him while pointing to an orangy cat, who kept meowing at them, it looked like it was alone.
"I see, kiddo, it may have been lost" he commented, getting her to frown while observing the little animal.
"Can I pick it up?" she asked him, unsure if it was okay to take the kitten in her arms.
"Yes, you can, but be careful, okay?" Clark ruffled her hair as she nodded before approaching it.
"Hi" she whispered with a smile, gently petting the cat's in between its ears as she was trying to gain its trust. "It's okay, it's okay" she murmured while holding it.
"Did you know that Kara had a cat when she arrived here in Earth?" Kal-El questioned her, to what she shook her head. "She never told you about Streaky? You're gonna have to ask her" he smiled while observing them. "I think she likes you" he commented as the little cat purred.
She observed her for few seconds, smiling widely when the kitten snuggled in her arms while meowing, so she didn't help but petting her golden fur.
"Nova" she whispered, for an odd reason that name suited her.
"Nova… Is that going to be her name?" Clark asked her, getting her to nod. "I like it, kiddo" he smiled.
"Hey, I see you have a little helper today, huh?" it was Lois who walked inside the barn. "Hi, sweetie" the woman embraced her tightly.
"I found a kitten, she was alone" she showed her. "I'm gonna named her Nova" she told her with a smile.
"That's a beautiful name" Lois smiled, gently caressing the cat. "But we should make sure none is looking for her, okay?" the reporter commented as she sighed, kind of upset even if it was the right thing to do.
KARA'S P.O.V
Comet sat down at her feet as she felt tears welling up in her eyes, both of them were heart broken because Halley wasn't there.
"You miss her, too, huh?" she asked him, getting the puppy to look at her before barking as if he was answering her question.
She wiped her tears when she heard someone knocking on the door, frowning a little as it was still early in the morning, so she wasn't waiting for anyone to come to her apartment.
"Hey, I didn't know you were coming" she said to Mon-El.
"I'm sorry I came without calling, I just wanted to know how things went" he apologized as she let him walk inside the loft. "How are you?" he asked her.
"Not good" she admitted in just a whisper, going to sit on the couch. "She didn't want to leave, it was hard" she told him, remembering how the little girl had refused to make her backpack at first. "I'm just hoping he won't find her" she looked at him while he was sitting on the couch as well.
"I hope that too" Mon-El whispered. "I only remember one time of her being this scared. After your fight with Reign…, She was terrified of losing you and her nightmares were only making things worse" he explained, to what she could only nodded, even if she had seen her baby cousin a lot more scared than at that moment.
Comet barked at them, approaching Mon-El to get some cuddles, which made her smile slightly while observing them.
"Why didn't Comet go with her?" the daxamite asked, kind of curious.
"I'm trying to trick Lex" she answered. "He knows that they're always together, so if he starts looking for her here at National City, I'll be ready before he gets to Smallville" she explained, seeing him smile.
She couldn't help the smile that was being drawn on her face. It was weird having him there, at her loft, but she was happy that Mon-El was back in their life, that she was able to spend time with him like the old days.
However, she wouldn't lie if she said that she couldn't stop thinking about what teen Halley had told her, having to turn her head when she feel her cheeks blushing because of the thought of them being together, even having kids.
"You okay?" Mon-El asked, a little bit confused.
"Yeah, just thinking" she said while faking a smile just at her phone rang.
She found herself panicking when she read the name of the person who was calling her. It was too early for something to have happened already.
"Clark, Is everything okay?" she asked directly, being scared of whatever that could have happened to her baby cousin. "Halley?" she couldn't avoid being surprised when she heard the little girl's voice.
"I found a kitten" the child told her with so much excitement.
"You did?" she asked, still trying to calm herself down. "That's so cool, baby" she said while observing how Mon-El relaxed as well.
"We're looking for her family… If Nova doesn't have a home, Can we keep her?" the nine year old asked as she frowned, not wanting to break her heart, but knowing that they couldn't take care of another pet.
"Sweetheart…, I'm sorry, but we can't" she answered her, hearing her cousin protest. "I know, baby, but we live in a small apartment and we already have Comet" she explained to her.
"She doesn't need a big house…" the little one was persistent.
"What if she doesn't get along with Comet?" she asked her, the child not answering. "I know you love animals, sweetie…" her baby cousin's sad voice made her stop talking, feeling bad.
"I have an idea" she heard Clark say. "We'll take care of her here at the farm, so you can come visit Nova whenever you want, okay, kiddo?" he commented, hoping that Halley would agree to that.
"Will we come visit her, Kara?" the kid asked her.
"Of course, baby" she answered her.
"Okay" her baby cousin finally gave in.
"Hey, Mon-El is here, Do you want to talk to him?" she asked her.
"Yes, please" the child answered.
"Okay, love you, baby" she told her, to what the little girl answered back before she gave Mon-El her phone so he could talk to the kid.
Thanks to her superhearing she was able to listen to their conversation. The little girl was trying to make Mon-El keep the kitten, which made her smile a little, since he was trying really hard not to say 'yes' just to please the child.
She couldn't avoid frowning when, using her x-ray vision, she spotted William waiting at the hallway, having to get up to open the door, already knowing that it was going to be awkward.
"Hi" William smiled, to what she did as well before responding to his kiss. "I brought breakfast" he showed her the bag. "How did everything go?"
"Thanks" she smiled, letting him enter her loft. "Not good, but I think she's doing okay, so I'm okay, too" she explained. "Mike is talking with her right now" she pointed to Mon-El.
"I almost agreed to keep the kitten" Mon-El told her with a half smile before noticing William.
"I know, I almost did too" she smiled. "But I have enough with Halley and Comet" she commented.
"Come on, they're two little angels" the daxamite laughed.
"Excuse me, you weren't here when he ripped off all the pillows because he was teething" she told him, laughing as well, Comet approaching her as if he knew that she was talking about him. "It's okay, buddy, I'm not upset anymore" she scratch behind his ears.
"I should be leaving, I'm seeing you later, right?" Mon-El asked her, to what she nodded before he left even if she contained herself not to stop him.
"Halley wants a cat?" William asked a little confused about the previous conversation.
"She found a kitten and she wants to keep it" she answered, seeing him nodded. "She agreed to leave the cat at the farm" she added.
Both of them sat down by the kitchen island, ready to eat the sticky buns William had brought as her mind was going back and forth about how much she was hating the fact if having her baby cousin away from her, even if she knew that the little girl would be safe.
HALLEY'S P.O.V
She knocked at the twins' door. They were sitting on the floor while playing a videogame, but both of them stared at her for a few seconds as she observed what they were playing.
"Can I play?" she asked them.
"No" it was Jonathan who answered, making her frown kind of upset."You're too little and you're gonna make us lose" he added, which only made her angrier.
They were playing Mario Bros, a game she had played before with Kara, so she knew that it wasn't that hard and she was really good at it.
She sighed before going back to the living area where Lois was working on an article, but smiling at her the moment the woman saw her.
"Hey, what's wrong?" the reporter asked her.
"They don't let me play" she answered.
"Who?" Lois sighed, both of them knowing that answer.
"Jon" she told her, seeing her nodded before grabbing her hand and walking upstairs.
"Jon, Why aren't you letting Halley play?" the woman asked her son, who sighed while staring angrily at her.
"She's gonna make us lose" he answered.
"Then teach her how to play" Lois pointed out as Jon rolled his eyes.
She sat down next to Jordan, who gave her the control to start playing, even though Jon waited for his brother to explain her the different buttons before starting.
She couldn't avoid a huge smile to be drawn on her face when she managed to reach the end of the level, getting them to win the game.
"You won!" Jordan exclaimed while hugging her lightly. "She's really good" he commented to Jonathan, who barely nod.
"Good job, kiddo" Lois smiled at her. "See, Jon, never underestimate a girl" the woman told him.
"I guess you can play with us…" Jon sighed.
"Thank you" she smiled while hugging herself at him, knowing that he hated being hugged, feeling how he tried to pull her away.
KARA'S P.O.V
Lena's voice had sent her into a panic mode, just flying as fast as she could to get to her friend's office, having a bad feeling about what was about to happen.
As soon as she landed on the balcony, she rushed inside, stopping when her gaze found the other person that was waiting there for her.
"Supergirl, what a pleasure" Lex greeted her as she felt fury running through her veins, sharing a glance with her best friend, who mouthed an apology.
"Lex" she murmured.
"You're not going to like this" he already told her while giving her a folder with some paperwork, which only got her to frown.
For a moment she forgot how to keep breathing, her heart pounding heavily on her chest as she couldn't stop staring her aunt's signature, fearing what it meant.
"You're out of your mind" she snapped at him, not even caring about the tears that were threatening to escape her eyes. "This is never gonna happen" she tried her best to remain calm.
"Your aunt gave me her custody" he pointed out. "So I'll suggest to follow the orders I'm going to give you, because I can demonstrate that your paperwork is completely fake" Lex warned her.
"You tricked Astra to trust you" she was upset.
"I'm giving you 48 hours to bring the child to me" he didn't even care about what she was saying. "Don't try to hide her like you've done, which is funny because I know where Superman lives" he chuckled as she felt afraid of him knowing where her baby cousin was at that moment.
"What if I don't do it?" she asked, refusing for Lex to have every right to do whatever he wanted to the little girl.
"Then it would be the police who would explain to the kid what happened and bring her to me" he answered. "Oh, and you would be arrested, losing her custody forever" he added to his explanation, to what she frowned, not knowing what she should do. "See you in two days, Supergirl" and with that he left the office, leaving her there with her best friend, feeling how the urge of crying was even stronger.
"I'm so sorry, Kara" she heard Lena say, not even daring to look at her.
She just shook her head, closing her eyes for a few seconds before walking to the balcony, ready to fly away from there.
"Kara!" her best friend tried to stopped her, but all she wanted to do was to get home and find a way not to lose her baby cousin.
HALLEY'S P.O.V
Nova was purring while snuggling closer to her, being gentle while scratching her back, still observing her bright orangy colors.
In just a few seconds she felt a huge oppression over her chest, trying so hard to keep breathing as she left the kitten on her lap, being afraid of hurting her.
Tears welled up in her eyes as the walls around her seemed to be closing, wrapping with her hand the necklace she was wearing, being unsure of doing it.
"Halley?" she heard Jon ask, knowing that she couldn't control her powers at that moment. "Why are you crying? Did you get hurt?" he asked while approaching her, which only made her to move away from his reach.
It didn't matter when it was Kara or Mon-El the one that held her, she wasn't afraid of being able of hurting them, but Jon… She wasn't even sure if that boy knew that he was half Kryptonian, that his father was Superman.
However, Jonathan didn't listen to her, just finding his place by her side as he wrapped her arms around her, moment at which she stayed still while closing her eyes.
"Try to breathe" he whispered, gently rubbing circles on her back, to what she shook her head. "Come on, Hal, you have to try it" Jonathan said, she could sense that he was scared, tightening the strength of the embrace.
"I don't want to hurt you" she barely murmured, trying so hard to control her own strength and heat vision.
"That's stupid, you're not going to hurt me, Halley" he answered as she sobbed.
"Hey, hey, What's wrong?" that time it was Clark the one asking.
"I think it's a panic attack" Jon answered his dad, who kneeled down in front of them.
"Come here, sweetie" Kal-El whispered while taking her in his arms, her head resting on his shoulder as she remained with her eyes closed. "It's alright, Hal" he assured her, Nova meowing at the lost of contact with her.
"I don't want him to find me" she sobbed.
"He's not going to hurt you, kiddo" he tried to calm her down, even if deep down neither of them truly believed it.
"Who's she talking about?" Jonathan asked, a little confused about the conversation.
"It's a long story, Jon, I'll tell you other day" Clark answered his son, who insisted again. "Don't tell your brother anything about this, we'll have a talk with him, okay?" he asked him. "You've heard of Lex Luthor, right?"
"One of Superman's biggest enemy" the teen answered. "What does he have to do with this?" Jon asked as her whole body shivered.
"Well…, he has hurt Halley multiple times and now he's out of prison" Kal explained while hugging her tightly. "So we're doing our best to keep her safe here" he added.
"But I don't understand… He hates Kryptonians, Why is he hurting Halley?" Jon questioned his dad as she felt how her eyes started to burn.
"Clark…" she barely murmured, knowing what would happen if she opened her eyes.
Kal-El left her on the floor, still giving her balance while whispering to her to open her eyes, but she was scared of doing it.
She did it slowly, releasing her heat vision until she felt completely week and fell in Clark arms without even been able to avoid it.
Jon was staring at them confused, observing her for a few seconds before opening his mouth, but he didn't seem to find words to describe what he had seen.
"She's a Kryptonian" Jon pointed out.
"We'll talk later, okay?" Clark asked him while gently caressing her hair. "It's okay, kiddo" he whispered to her.
She closed her eyes in fear. She was able to get that something was off, but trying really hard to believe his words.
KARA'S P.O.V
She sighed. Her sister was waiting at the other side of the door, threatening her to open it if she didn't do it, but, honestly, she didn't want to have a conversation about everything that was going on.
"Kara, open the door!" her sister exclaimed one more time as she remained seated on the couch, being wrapped up in a blanket. "Okay, you didn't give me any other choice" Alex warned her angrily just a few seconds before opening the door, moment at which she looked away.
She had been crying the whole afternoon, being upset that she wasn't able to do anything to stop it from happening, having the feeling that he had won the battle.
"Lena called me" her sister told her while approaching her.
It didn't took her by surprise that Lena had told everyone else about her encounter with Lex and about what that had meant.
"I'm losing her, Alex, I'm losing my baby cousin" she couldn't avoid the tears that were streaming down her cheeks.
"No, Kara, don't say that" Alex pulled her into a hug. "You're not losing her, we're going to find a way to stop this, okay?" her sister assured her, to what she shook her head, knowing that there was nothing they could do.
"She had a panic attack because she thinks Lex is going to find her" she told her sister in between sobs. "But this time it's me who I'm giving her to him" she murmured.
"Mon-El went to Argo to talk to your aunt" her sister told her as she frowned slightly. "We need to prove that Astra didn't know she was giving him her custody and that the best place for that kid to stay is here, with you" Alex explained, to what she sighed, not knowing if they would get it. "Don't lose hope, Kara" those words only got her to broke down again.
She found herself crying in between her sister's arms, her head resting on Alex's shoulder, who was trying her best to comfort her.
"Do you think we can win this?" she asked her, daring to look directly into her eyes, Alex was trying to contain her own tears.
"Of course I do" her sister answered her, showing her a small smile. "That little girl adores you. She looks up to you, so I have no doubt that everyone would see how much you love her… And that you two need to stay together" Alex wiped the tears that were still running down her cheeks.
She nodded slightly, hoping that everything would be solved before she told her baby cousin since she was afraid of how that little girl was going to react.
Hi!
So Lex is back to stay for a while and to get Halley's custody.
I loved writing every single scene, but I have to say that my two favorites are the ones including Halley and Jon. They're both really competitive, but they really care about each other.
And little Nova… I really liked the idea of Halley trying to convinced Kara or Mon-El to keep the kitten, but for now she's staying at the Kent's farm.
Thanks so much for reading, let me know what you think,
Ayrin
