A/N) Hey guys, I can't remember - did I update last week or not? The days just blur man.
Anyway, heres another chpater - the next one is a doozy.
Motivating is your Superpower
The Haven is going crazy. Boomer can hardly catch a breath, Buttercup and half her team had gone out again, maybe they could find something to prolong the move.
It's been four days since the evacuation preparations have started Butch is in a coma, Brick doesn't sleep or eat, Blossom looks like a walking corpse and Bubbles, Boomer catches her crying in a corner alone a lot.
She's helps as best as she can with the feeding of both Mitch and Butch, which is difficult because. . . they don't know what they can eat – and they can't give them human flesh, for some reason, it seems like Butch is just – stuck.
He isn't mutating but he isn't getting better, Brick said. Boomer heard him when he wasn't supposed to, he said if Butch keeps up this fever, technically he's supposed to be dead by now by all accounts but if this keeps up, he doubts Butch'll make it.
Boomer can't stomach the thought, so, instead of mulling and crying alone in the cabin that's far too empty and cold without his brothers in it, he moves around the Haven trying to help Professor had promised they won't leave Butch and Mitch – but they needed to repair, before winter came in.
Brick'll figure this out, he always figures things out, he'll fix Butch – Just keep telling yourself that and you'll believe it eventually.
Boomer shudders at any other outcome.
"Hey, can you take this?" Mike calls out as Boomer passes.
"Sure – "Boomer grabs the crate, it's heavy. "What's in this?"
"Hmm? Oh – that's the last of our canned goods." Mike explains, checking things off on a crackly yellow piece of paper.
Oh – The last of it – "How many crates are there?" I really shouldn't ask.
"Ten." Mike says dully, blue eyes dropping to the ground with nerves.
Oh – "Oh."
"Yah- "
"Mike!" One of the twins calls, Boomer still doesn't know which is which. "We gotta count the medical supplies back here!"
"Coming. See you Boomer." Mike calls and rushes off to continue his job.
Boomer sighs, hefts the crate up higher and stumbles towards the pile they have tied down to really large wooden planks tied together settled on top of - what were they. . .Brick had told him the name – Wheels! Yah . . . wheels. They made moving much easier.
"Excuse me Lil guy."
Boomer dodges the working men and their heavy loads, fascinated by how smoothly they worked together – he wonders what kind of life these people have lived before this Haven, everyone is scared, but they still go on, Boomer doesn't know what makes them keep going. Leaving their home was impending and they still work.
There has to be a word for people who don't give up –
"Hope, Boomer."
Huh? That wasn't in his head, he turns to see bright eyes Bubbles, her pale skin darkened from lack of sleep, hair a little uneven at her ears, but still she smiles at him. Boomer loves her smile.
"What's hope?"
"That's what they have, we have Hope, like the sun we have to keep going up remember?" She explained, tucking a tail aver her shoulder and handing him a crusty flat piece of dried meat. "Chew slowly, we have to ration out for a while who knows when we'll find another place to settle."
"Isn't it safer to stay in here?" Really, staying in these walls is better than running from Zombies out there wasn't it?
"And starve slowly? Or worse, start hurting each other to survive? No Boomer – we stay together."
That statement makes him angry, it shocks him when he feels the anger rise. "But Professor wants to leave Mitch and Butch behind if we can't help them." How was that sticking together?
Bubbles shakes her head. "No, he doesn't want to Boomer, he just has to think of hard choices for the bigger picture. But I know – "She puts a small hand on his shoulder and gives him a firm smile. "I know that Professor will do everything in his power to not abandon them until the absolute end. Got it."
I hope you're right Bubbles. He nods wordlessly and takes her hand, she squeezes back reassuringly. "Thanks Bubbles."
"Anytime." She smiles.
The loud ringing of the warning bell startles them both again, and Boomer notices this is becoming a pattern for them, every time he and Bubbles have a minute to themselves, that thing sounds off and something horrible happens.
"Oh no – Buttercup." Bubbles gasps, face taut as she turns yellow and her grip tightens, she's still holding his hand and Boomer would relish in that fact if he didn't suddenly feel like the earth was yanked out from under him again.
"Come on – " He really doesn't want to see. "Let's go make sure she's ok." Please be ok, we can't handle another Zombie infection. Please. He repeats the word in his head as they run until they're there.
Buttercup, Robin, and a twin come rushing in, the first thing that makes Boomer skin crawl was the gunk on their armor, the second, the absolutely horrified looks in their faces as Buttercup gasps, swiping at her dirty streaked face and stumbling, the twin faints instantly, Robin's shaking so hard Mike starts to shake too when he grabs her arms.
"Buttercup?" Professor comes running as do most of the Haven, Blossom and Brick close behind him.
"Buttercup what – "
"It's – Z-Zombies!" Her voice shakes, she trips and Professor grasps her by the arms, face ashen as she swallows down the thickness of her voice, "I've never seen – '
Boomers legs jitter, he's trembling, gripping Bubbles next to him – what's wrong, what's wrong, what's wrong!
Nobody is breathing, the air is thick, the only sound is Robin's sudden hysterical unintelligible sobbing and Buttercup's horrible raspy gasps for breath. Boomer can't feel his limbs, they've gone numb from the tense fear, Buttercup raises her head, eyes wide and wild and – and terrified.
"Professor, I never seen so many in my life – they – they're an army. And – "She cracks, her knuckles white from her grip on Professors arms. "And they're coming here – they're coming . . . for us."
A/N) There you go - things must be really bad if Buttercup is scared.
Hmm - poor boys just can't catch a break. Sorry.
Let me know what you guys thought.
