Here is Chapter 10 of the Blue Wolf. Will's journey in Slaver's Bay has him encircle his third target: Meereen. What he sees there only further solidifies that he's doing the right thing and that the Masters must pay. And he's going to be the one to make sure that happens. Plus, he gets to spend more time with his dragon. Maybe he could get a Direwolf one day. Enjoy!
The Last Slave City in the Bay
295 AC: Yunkai
Prince William Baratheon's personal journey and mission to end slavery in Slaver's Bay was not complete but they had their next target in mind. Meereen. Home of the Great Masters of Meereen and the last slave city in Slaver's Bay. Many in the prince's party felt that this last city would be the easiest to take. Meereen didn't have a standing army that would be able to handle the Unsullied, Yunkai had summoned the Second Sons and they were dead and the Masters of Volantis hired the Golden Company who were either dead, fled with their tails between their legs or had sworn their servitude to Will and his company. They had no allies and many thought they'd give up without a fight but the prince wasn't so sure. If anything, the Masters have proven to be conniving and stubborn and now they were backed into a corner. It's often that a cornered animal is the most dangerous and he wasn't going to let his arrogance lead him into a trap.
So, he did the smart thing and prepared. He had his uncle Stannis, Hercules, and Smalljon Umber in charge of thousand Golden Company mercenaries who pledge their fealty to him to train and weed out any potential spies or turncoats. If they wanted to prove themselves useful then he trusted those three to make sure they understood that things changed and what they got away with before in the Golden Company wouldn't work under Will's command. Along with that, the Unsullied and Dothraki kept up their training as well as the training for the Yunkish City watch. And there were city council meetings, more logistical details, and work for the city to be done but nothing he hadn't done before. He was just glad that he was no longer asleep and back in the realm of the living. His physical strength was slowly returning and he had upped his training to get back to the state he was in before and get better. Part of that was doing physical work like helping in building the canal along with other work in the city. While it could be seen as manual labor beneath a prince, all that work was good for him. It gave him full range of motion so nearly all his muscles were utilized and his work often involved repeated motions and strength. His strength his slowly returning but what about his skill?
Will was having a training spar with Hundred Eyes in one of the courtyards in Yunkai to make sure his skills stayed strong. His brothers were sitting off to the side to watch along with some of the others including Ser Arthur Dayne, Missandei and Cedric. When Ser Davos heard that the prince was going to have a spar, he wanted to come and Stannis came with him. Tyrion was there as well and surprisingly enough so was Prince Oberyn, his daughters, and Ellaria Sand. They sat together around a makeshift table with some wine and snacks as Will cracked his neck and removed his jacket while Hundred Eyes stood in the middle of the courtyard.
"Where are the weapons?" Obara questioned.
"It's not that kind of spar." Ser Davos told her.
"What kind of spar is it?" Ellaria asked.
"A hand to hand one. The Prince is likely the best hand to hand fighter I've ever seen." Tyrion stated.
"Hand to hand? Without a weapon? Seems like a pointless way to train and fight. He doesn't even use a dagger?" Oberyn wondered and got headshakes in response.
"I thought that once but after seeing the Prince fight with his bare hands in the Summer Isles…it was a sight to see." Tyrion told them.
"That makes two of us. I've seen all manner of incredible things but never did I expect to see the prince best a man three times his size." Davos remarked.
"The sellsword, Hercules? That's who William fought?" Stannis asked and Davos nodded.
"And defeated him. It was a fight to remember." Davos remembered fondly.
Missandei took the Prince's jacket and then his tunic leaving him shirtless so everyone could see his well-developed and muscular frame which was a very pleasing sight for Tyene and Nymeria Sand. "Mmmm…memorable indeed." Tyene remarked and Oberyn chuckled at his daughter.
"The prince appears to be returning to form." Tyrion stated. "But what about his skill?"
Will walked over and stood across from Hundred Eyes in the middle of the courtyard. The two took a bow to one another before assuming their stances. Will assumed a relaxed stance, keeping his feet shoulder width apart but his right leg back and then his left hand forward with his palm facing forward and his right hand curled into a fist. Hundred Eyes had his right leg forward and his arms out in front.
Will made the first move by landing an oblique kick to Hundred Eye's right leg and throwing out a jab that was blocked before throwing out a series of punches. Hundred Eyes parried his attacks and blocked the elbow jab to the stomach before hitting hit him the side with a palm strike. Will staggered a bit but got his footing as he blocked Hundred Eye's elbow strike to his face and ducked under his left hook before grabbing his side kick and throwing him to the ground. Hundred Eyes kicked Will in the side before getting back to his feet only to get hit by a low hook kick in the face.
Everyone who was familiar with the prince's martial arts spars watched with intrigue as it would seem that his skill had definitely improved over all these years. Hundred Eyes gave a subtle nod of acknowledgement and was impressed that Will managed to hit him. Will charged forward only for Hundred Eyes to hit him with a push kick to the chest and then a jab to the face. He blocked the next two and grabbed his arm before grappling and attempting to throw him to the ground but Hundred Eyes flipped forward and landed on his feet. Will dodged Hundred Eye's face strike and grabbed his side kick only for the blind master to hit him with a knee to the face. Hundred Eyes landed on the ground and attempted another sidekick but Will closed the distance and kept his leg from extending while throwing out an elbow to the head that was blocked. He then spun and threw out another elbow strike to the face that was blocked before grabbing the arm Hundred Eyes used to block and landing a straight jab to his face. Hundred Eyes pushed him back and kicked out one of his legs before he grabbed the hold Will had on his arm and landing a jab to his face yet again. Will blocked the second jab and grabbed his arms, using his strength to push Hundred Eyes back.
Will pushed his arms aside and landed a right cross to the face but Hundred Eyes used the momentum to land a spinning back fist on him which was followed up with a jump kick to the side. He staggered back and wiped his mouth of blood before taking a deep breath. He charged with a flying knee that was blocked but landed a punch to the stomach only for Hundred Eyes to block his next strike and hit him in the chest. Will then blocked Hundred Eyes three punch combo and leg strike before ducking under a spinning back fist and blocking an elbow strike to the nose. He pushed Hundred Eyes back and blocked his left punch before raising his knee to block a low kick and then throwing out a spinning elbow. Hundred Eyes blocked the elbow and threw out a punch that Will grabbed and brought him close to knee him in the chest but it was blocked. Hundred Eyes backed up as Will attempted a flying elbow but it was blocked as his next straight punch was parried and got hit in the side of the head with a palm strike. He blocked Hundred Eyes next punch and landed a punch to the stomach before throwing out a front kick that was caught. Hundred Eyes grabbed his leg, spun around, and hit him the face with a spinning back fist before knocking Will onto his back with a leg sweep. (1)
Will took a few breaths as Hundred Eyes got back to his feet and wiped a small drop of blood on his lip. "Impressive, my prince. Your skills continue to improve."
Will nodded before doing a kip-up back to his feet and spitting out some blood. "But let me guess. More I need to learn."
Hundred Eyes chuckled a bit before nodded. "It is good to know your fondness for sarcasm remains. The next part of our lesson then, shall we?"
Will nodded before he signaled over to Gendry and Edric. Gendry grabbed a dull sparring sword and tossed it over to Will while Edric tossed Hundred Eyes a wooden staff. Hundred Eyes spun the staff and stomped one end on the ground before holding it in front of his body with one end pointing at Will who held his sword in front of him in one hand. Hundred Eyes made the first move with a lunge that Will blocked before pushing the staff aside and countering with a series of quick slashes and strikes that were blocked. Will then blocked another staff lunge and backstepped to avoid a short sweep before bringing his sword to his side to block a strike. He pushed the staff back and lunged forward with a series of quick strikes and slashes that Hundred Eyes blocked and made the last one a parry into a lunge. Will blocked the lunge but Hundred Eyes controlled the momentum and used his staff to force Will's sword around in front of him before pushing it up and over to his back and knocking him forward. Will recovered and quickly blocked a strike to the head before attempting a lunge and then a quick strike to the left followed by a slash to the right. Hundred Eyes blocked and pushed his staff up against the practice sword to control Will's movements before moving in close and putting his sword hand into a lock. He spun his staff and locked the prince's sword before pushing him away to take it only for Will to grab the staff with his other hand and pull Hundred Eyes with him before throwing him to the ground.
Will's sword was dropped to the ground so he quickly grabbed it and got to his knees before spinning into a powerful slash that Hundred Eyes managed to block. "Well done countering my disarm." Hundred Eyes told him only for hit Will's hand with a quick strike so he dropped the sword and moved his staff to his neck. "But not good enough. Again."
Hundred Eyes tossed him the sword and the two continued training. This kind of sword training wasn't the kind of style common in Westeros. The knights style of hacking, slashing, and powerful strikes. This one was the one Hundred Eyes taught him that relied more on quick strikes and fluid movement to make use of the prince's natural agility and athleticism. Combining this with the training and styles he was taught by Ser Barristan Selmy and Ser Arthur Dayne made the prince one of the deadliest young fighters in the Seven Kingdoms and his past battles are proof of that.
Those new to this spectacle watched with intrigue as it was something to behold. Instead of the Westerosi style of fighting in armor with heavy hits and shields, this was elegant and utilized more finesse and use of movement. Stannis thought that this was a waste of time for his nephew to learn. It seemed too fanciful and unnecessary but if the tales of the prince's battles and Ser Davos are to be believed, all of this training turned William into a cunning and skilled warrior. And he did have Ser Athur Dayne instructing him as well and he was the greatest knight and swordsman in the Seven Kingdoms.
The training continued for a few hours until a break was needed. William was sweating profusely and even Hundred Eyes breathing was a little labored. "Well done, my prince. Every day you get stronger and more fierce. Keep on this path and there is no opponent who you cannot face."
Will nodded and the two bowed towards one another. Arthur and some of the others clapped in applause which made the others do so as well. Missandei walked over with a towel and a cup of water as Cedric handed the blind sage the same as well. "How do you feel?" Ser Arthur asked him.
"A little tired, sore, and kind of beat up but that's usually no different from my regular training sessions with Hundred Eyes so I think that's a good sign." William remarked which earned a few chuckles. He looked down at his hands and tightened to fists. "I think I've managed to overcome the weakness and fatigue my body went through. I can continue training as before."
"This is the kind of training you've been doing?" Stannis asked as he and Ser Davos walked over.
"Part of it. I train with Hundred Eyes and learn everything he has to teach me about the martial arts which have proven fruitful in various circumstances. I'm beyond blessed to have him here. He's been an excellent teacher and traveling companion." Will replied.
"The honor has been mine and the prince is an excellent student." Hundred Eyes stated.
"I also train my swordsmanship with Ser Arthur Dayne as well as my archery skills along with my mobility. And Cedric continues my lessons while using them in practice with my work in rebuilding Astapor and Yunkai." Will added. "And my work here has been paying off. Astapor is no longer the slave city it once was. It's now thriving with an abundance of trade and commerce and no child should ever have to feel the sting of a whip on their back. And I imagine the influx of trade between the Seven Kingdoms and Westeros is good as well."
"It is your grace. You've done good work in rebuilding a city from the ground up. Many wouldn't think to put in as much care as you have if the stories I've heard are true." Ser Davos said.
"Well, many simply lack conviction or a reason to work hard. I don't." He replied with a smirk.
"You've done good work, nephew. I'm not doubting that. And you'll hear no complaint from me in stopping slavers and freeing those they have captured but you are the crowned Prince of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Your place is back home by your father's side learning to rule for when you become king." Stannis told him.
"Your right and that's partially what I'm doing here. Every task, debate, and obstacle I have to overcome as I literally rebuild these two cities makes me a better leader and king for when I return home. And I've had experience in running King's Landing even before I left. I think I did the job better then my father did with the aid of Jon Arryn's assistance and I've improved things in Westeros with improved trade, a larger mercantile fleet and by showing that its Prince is not one to be trifled with." Will pointed out and Stannis had to agree with that. "I know that my journey may seem like the actions of a prince who ran away to avoid his problems or have fun but let me assure you it's not."
"Then what is it, exactly?" Stannis asked him as Will looked over at the large group of allies and friends he has made along the way.
"I started this journey to aid Prince Jalabhar reclaim his throne on the Summer Isles and improve trade and relations with Westeros. That was one reason but the other Ser Davos knows, was to make my own path and figure out what kind of person I was going to be. Every single step of this journey has been about that and to better prepare myself to be a better leader for the Seven Kingdoms and leave a better legacy then those before me. Our people never stepped foot outside of Westeros unless for war and neither did the Targaryens. They were stuck and I will return to rule but Cedric has taught me to be a student of history and learn from its mistakes. Broadening my horizons to learn and every experience will make me a better prince when I return. That includes my work here in Slaver's Bay where I will do what I can to help people who need it and when I do return…I will be the prince and hopefully King that Westeros needs. And not the one it's just dealt with." Will stated.
"So, you do plan to return to King's Landing and not stay here to leave the throne to your siblings?" Stannis clarified.
"Of course. Leave the throne to Joffrey? I've been kept informed by the letters from you, Jon Arryn and our friends in the various guilds and I know that he's not ready or if he ever will be. I remember seeing him being given everything he wanted and having Cersei whisper in his ear about how he'll be great but did he ever go to a Small Council meeting while I was in King's Landing?" He asked, walking over to the bench to put his shirt back on. "Has he ever gone to one since I've been gone?"
"No, he has not." Stannis answered.
"When I was his age I was already helping Lord Arryn and the Small Council." Will recounted.
"As you said…you work harder than most." Ser Davos pointed out with a smirk on his face.
"Hard work will keep a man honest. Don't lose faith in me, Uncle. I promise that everything I do here will help me when I return and I will." Will swore and Stannis nodded. "I hope you'll stay a little longer. I've had Master Gibbs increase our maritime patrols here and in Westeros to keep the waters safe. You'll be able to see firsthand in the good that I'm doing here and I'm not just wasting my time. And when we march to Meereen, having some extra hands would be appreciated."
"We'll stay until then, Nephew." Stannis agreed and Will smiled when he saw Edric and Gendry remove some of their heavier clothing while grabbing their practice weapons.
"Good. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got another lesson." He finished his cup of water and grabbed two practice swords before walking onto the training field as Gendry and Edric walked over to join them. Edric had a small buckler/shield on his left forearm and a practice spear in the other while Gendry was holding a practice axe.
"What lesson is this one?" Ser Davos asked Ser Arthur.
"To see if Gendry and Edric are ready to fight side by side with the Prince instead of being in support. He said he would let them fight by his side if they managed to defeat him." Arthur explained and Ser Davos exhaled.
"That doesn't seem possible." Davos remarked.
"And they agreed so the Prince adjusted it. If they can fight to a standstill within a certain amount of time then they're ready." Arthur said as Gendry and Edric readied themselves.
Will took a deep breath and nodded to Cedric who held up a sand timer. It wasn't as big as an hourglass and would last about ten minutes. "If you last long enough until that sand timer runs out…then you're ready. And I won't go easy on you. Its life or death and I need to see that you both have learned enough." He told them. They nodded and readied their weapons as Cedric turned the glass, starting the time.
Will held his practice swords in front of him and everyone waited to see who would make the first move. Gendry and Edric assumed their ready stances, steadied their hearts, and called to mind all the training they've undergone. It was time to see if they were ready. Will rushed forward and did a lunge at Edric while throwing out a slash to Gendry. Edric blocked with his buckler and Gendry blocked with his axe only to get kicked in the gut by Will who quicky spun to the ground in a leg sweep that knocked Edric onto his back. Will did a kip up back to his feet and blocked Edric's spear thrusts and then sidestepped his leaping buckler punch before parrying Gendry's axe and elbowing him in the side. Will turned and attempted to slash him in the back only for Gendry to quickly move his axe in the way and block it before pushing him back with his shoulder. Edric thrust his spear and Will brought one sword down to deflect the weapon to the ground and then thrust with his other sword only for Gendry to block it with his axe. Gendry and Edric then push kicked Will and he was knocked back, using the momentum to roll backwards and get back to his feet.
Everyone watched with intrigue as the two younger brothers were doing much better than they normally do and were working well together. Will's face showed some genuine surprise as he dusted some sand off his shirt. "Impressive."
"We learn from the bruises and the losses, Brother." Edric pointed his spear at him.
"A lot of bruises and losses along with that awful heavy training you've put us through." Gendry added, looking over to see the sand timer was about halfway done. "Looks like our training is starting to pay off. Maybe even enough for us to edge out a win."
"I'll admit that you've both gotten better…" Will admitted, quickly blocking Edric's lunges and thrusts while dodging and parrying Gendry's axe swings. The two brothers worked together to try and put Will off balance. If they lasted a little longer then they would win. Gendry hooked one of Will's swords with his axe and ripped it out of his hand and Edric did a low slash with his spear that Will backed up to avoid. Edric followed that up with a spear thrust that Will parried. He then grabbed part of the spear shaft before hitting Edric in the head with a hook kick that dazed him. That allowed him to use Edric's spear to block Gendry's axe and then kicked him in the chest. Gendry fell on his back as Will slashed at Edric's stomach but he moved back to avoid getting hit and then grabbed Will's wrist when he flipped his sword into reverse grip to try and slash him in the side. That's what Will wanted as he then grabbed Edric's arms and did a hip throw to take him to the ground where he hit him in the stomach with his sword. Edric grabbed his stomach in pain as Will walked over to Gendry and attacked with him. Gendry blocked every slash, thrust, and swipe before parrying Will's slash at his leg and tried to hit him in the head with the end knob of his axe but missed as Will ducked. He hit Gendry in the back of the leg, sending him to one knee and then spun around him, hitting him in the back. "…but today's not that day."
Cedric stopped the timer and saw that the brother's were close but they still had another minute left. "Not complete." He announced and there were groans of disappointment heard as those that had bet on them winning or at least lasting long enough were forced to pay their dues to those who bet the prince would still win.
Gendry dropped his axe and seethed as that hit in the back stung. "Damn!" He exclaimed as Edric walked over and helped him up. "That stings."
"Tell me about it." Edric said, rubbing his stomach. "Did you have to hit so hard?"
"This was a fight to see if you're two are ready as you claim to be. If I had done this with minimal effort then it would only be detrimental to your real progress." Will told them, walking back with some water, and handing it to them. "Besides, they were practice swords. I remember getting hit my fair share of times when I trained. I still do…just not as often."
"I thought we had you this time." Gendry said to him.
"You two were close. I wager another minute and you would have won but the deal was to fight to a standstill up to a certain time…not close enough." He reminded them.
"Guess we'll have to try again." Edric pointed out.
"That you will and I don't doubt that soon enough you'll have proven that you're ready…just not today." Will joked, pulling them into a hug as some of the others came over to talk and comment on how well they were doing.
Stannis, Ser Davos, and Ser Arthur watched the scene and all smiled. "If there was any doubt about the prince's mind and character after…whatever happened that night, I think it's safe to say that he's back to who he is." Ser Davos stated.
"Agreed." Arthur replied.

King's Landing, Westeros
In one section of the Red Keep, strange sounds could be heard coming from an open courtyard. The indistinct sounds of something hitting something followed by grunts and groans. One thing of note in the courtyard was the appearance of two members of the Kingsguard which indicated that it involved someone of the royal family. Since the two members were Ser Barristan Selmy and the other was ser Jaime Lannister then King Robert would be there. Given it was King, many thought that he was currently engaged in his extramarital activity with one or two women from one of the city's many brothels. He just wasn't in his bed chambers and wanted a more open-aired environment to do the deed. That would be a good guess and Robert's sexual appetite might actually lead to that one day but that wasn't the case for this moment.
Robert was doing something he hadn't done since his coronation: Training.
Ser Barristan, Ser Jaime, Lancel, and some attendees watched as King Robert was using his Warhammer to smash and destroy various training dummies and strawmen set up around him. Robert's fabled Warhammer stood nearly as tall as most children with a hammer length greater than a foot and made of casted steel with gold painted inlay, forged for him by Donal Noye at Storm's End. The hammer's teeth on the front could cave in metal and smash a body like it were fruit with a pike at the top for stabbing and a hook at the back for catching. Robert's prowess with his fabled Warhammer was legendary and it was this hammer that ended Rhaegar Targaryen…but that was a long time ago when he was in better shape.
Robert had gotten complacent and lazy after his coronation. Too much wine, too much food, and too many women dulled the great warrior he once was and many thought all that remained was just his anger. That was partially true as they saw King Robert lift up his heavy Warhammer and bring it down in an overhead swing on the last dummy, smashing it to pieces.
"HA!" Robert grunted as he stood up and wiped his brow of sweat. His tunic was caked in sweat and he was breathing heavy from the exertion combined with his weight and lack of actual training in years. "WATER!"
Lancel scurried over quickly and filled up a goblet with water which Robert took a drank in a few gulps. "Most excellent form, your grace." Lancel told him.
"Oh, shut it." Robert pushed the goblet back into his hand and had him refill it. "That was pathetic."
"No, your grace. That was a spectacle to watch." Lancel assured him only for Robert to look at him.
"A spectacle?!" Robert took the goblet and drank some water before looking around at the 14 dummies and strawmen that the attendees were quickly cleaning up. "That was a shit of a spectacle."
Jon Arryn walked into the courtyard to see Robert taking a break from his training. A part of him still couldn't believe that Robert actually started training again. He didn't think he'd ever see it. This was the third training session in a week when before…it would be never in a week. Guess William's letter really got him motivated. Granted, Robert's physique was still rotund but the fact that he was actually doing something other then fucking girls or drinking was a miracle. When in doubt, one thing that would get Robert to actually act was messing with his ego.
"I take it the training session went well?" Jon Arryn wondered.
"It went like shit like the last two times." Robert told him. "Years ago, I could take down this many men with nothing but my Warhammer but I damn near fell on my ass twice here! Seven hells!"
"To be fair, Robert, this is only the third time you've spent training in years. You must have expected to be a bit sluggish." Jon commented.
"It hasn't been that long." Robert assured him only for Jon to give him a sigh.
"Yes it has, Robert. The last time was probably during the Greyjoy Rebellion which was years ago when the Prince was still a boy." Jon reminded him and the influx of memories made Robert laugh.
"And my boy is now a mighty warrior leading his own conquest that eclipses anything the white haired shits have ever done. And he's doing it without those dragons which makes him even better!" Robert boasted. "He's probably leading his army on his horse and cutting through slaver shits and Dothraki as easily as Baratheon's walk. Gah, I wish I could see him now. Sword held high caked in blood as those slavers shit themselves before him, praying to their harpy gods that the Baratheon Conqueror kills them quickly. Then he surrounds himself with those beautiful Essos women and fucks the night away."
"That seems more your fantasy, Robert." Jon remarked earning a few chuckles from Ser Barristan and Robert. "I think the Prince has more tact, restraint, and respect. I did help raise him after all and he seems to have taken to my lessons better then you did."
"I won't argue that Jon, but by the Seven that boy at least better have laid with a woman before he comes back." Robert stated, earning looks from them. "The boy can fight, he can lead, and he can ride but by the Seven he's green when it comes to women."
"And you know this how?" Ser Barristan wondered.
"I'm the boy's father. I know him as well as he knows me and I know he has yet to lay with a woman before he left so by the Seven he better have done it before he gets back!" Robert swore.
"Right…" Jon cleared his throat. "Sorry to interrupt your training your grace but Tywin Lannister has arrived in the Capital?"
"I wasn't aware I summoned him." Robert pointed out.
"You didn't, your grace. Lord Tywin arrived in the capital to speak to his daughter and son which is actually the real reason I came. Your father wants to see you in the Queen's chambers, Ser Jaime." Jon informed him.
"Thank you, Lord Hand." Ser Jaime bowed before he walked out of the courtyard.
"What does Lord Tywin want?" Robert asked.
"I don't know. He just said he needed to speak with his children. But since he is here, it would be wise to meet with him before he leaves. It's the respectful, Kingly thing to do." Jon reminded him.
"Right, right. I'll see him after I wash up. Lancel!" Robert shouted and the Lannister squire hurriedly rushed over to assist him.
Jaime Lannister walked through the Red Keep until he arrived at the Queen's Chambers where he saw some Lannister soldiers standing guard outside. Once they saw him, they opened the door and he walked in to see Cersei sitting at a table with a cup of wine in her hand while Tywin looked out at the view from her balcony.
"Close the door and let no one enter until I leave." Tywin ordered and the soldiers nodded, quickly closing the door leaving the Lion to speak with his two children in private.
"Father. This is a surprise. What brings you all the way to the capital?" Jaime asked him. "Come to see if the smell of the city had actually improved like people have said?"
"Be quiet." Tywin barked and Jaime stopped talking. "Have any of you heard anything from the prince?"
"Joffrey is fine, Father. He's currently attending to his lessons." Cersei answered.
"I didn't mean him. I meant the Crown Prince currently in Slaver's Bay. Have either of you heard anything?" Tywin asked again.
"Only that he recovered from his injuries after his battle against the Golden Company." Jaime answered.
"And apparently another assassination attempt." Tywin took out a piece of parchment and put it on the table. "That was sent from the Prince several days ago."
Cersei picked it up and read the contents with Jaime looking over her shoulder. Cersei's expression of calm indifference gave way to anger. "How dare that bastard accuse our house of treason. And he killed our own men. That itself is an act of treason for acting against House Lannister. Don't worry, father. The bastard will get what is coming to him and justice will be don—"
"QUIET!" Tywin shouted, shutting her up. "I don't have any care for the men who were killed. If they were stupid enough to try and kill the crown prince and get caught then they deserved to die. I sent them to keep Tyrion alive and instead they were conspiring behind my back to kill the Crown Prince. Do either of you have any idea what would happen if something happened to the boy?"
"Father—" Tywin raised his hand, getting Cersei to stop before she continued.
"It was a rhetorical question. The answer to that is that Robert would have been on a warpath to find the people responsible and if he found out it was House Lannister then nothing would have stopped him from doing the one thing he is actually good at and that is killing." Tywin warned them. "I don't care if those men really were coopted by the Triachs of Volantis or if either one of you told them to try and kill the prince—"
"Father we didn't—" Tywin cut off Jaime from speaking as well.
"I am not a fool and neither is the Prince. The only reason he hasn't acted against our house is because he doesn't have proof or wants to avoid the conflict that would arise from accusing House Lannister." Tywin pointed.
"As he should be." Cersei stated with pride only for Tywin to look at his daughter in disbelief.
"But should he, then it would fight that wouldn't be in House Lannister's best interest." Tywin stated.
"I am the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and he is just the Prince. A bastard Prince of a Northern Whore who ran away from Westeros to the barbarism of Slaver's Bay." Cersei declared. "Let the bastard Prince try because the strength of House Lannister is 60,000 strong."
"The prince is a proven warrior, the youngest knight in the Seven Kingdoms, an excellent leader, and is guarded by some of his most trusted men and is resting in two cities that he is rebuilding from the ground up surrounded by people who admire him. He has a legion of Unsullied, a Dothraki Horde, an army of ships and some of the finest warriors advising and protecting him. He's Robert First Born son and has the loyalty of the Stormlands. His mother was Eddard Stark's sister so he has the loyalty of the North by blood. The Warden of the North is married to the daughter of the Warden of the Riverlands so he has them as well. Jon Arryn raised both Lord Stark and the King so he has the Vale and if the rumors are true then the prince has befriended the younger Prince of Dorne giving him the south. That leaves the Reach but Garlan Tyrell is with the prince in Slaver's Bay and is already building up trust between his family and the Royal Bloodline." Tywin listed off. "The only ones who the prince haven't befriended are the Greyjoys and given he fought in the Greyjoy rebellion he'd rather kill them then fight with them. It is ignorant, arrogant, and stupid to think that we could win a conflict or idiotic to even start one."
"Father, you can't just let this—"
"WHAT I DO AND DON'T DO IS NONE OF YOUR CONCERN!" Tywin shouted, getting Cersei to shut up once again. "You have done enough and you will take no further moves against the Prince at all or so help me you it won't be his wrath but mine you will have to deal with. I will not have your idiocy and poor plans lead our house to ruin."
Cersei stifled her outrage and just kept her head down and mouth shut. Jaime did as well. "Yes, father." Jaime replied.
"I will handle the prince and if events play out then I might be able to undo what you have done." Tywin told them.
Yunkai
Things in Yunkai were busy with its inhabitants always having something to do thanks to the effort of the Yunkish City Council and Prince William Baratheon. The aftermath of the battle with the Golden Company was nearly finished with its cleanup. The outskirts of the city was clean minus the trench dug outside the city walls but those would be kept. It was a simple means of defense and could prove useful later. Their sneak attack a few miles further up the road was still being cleaned up as its efforts were semi-halted after the prince was stabbed with the poison arrowhead. Now that he was healthy again, they could finish up cleaning which was a bit of a curse.
The bodies of the dead members of the Golden Company had decayed and turned putrid for being out in the sun for so long that they were food for the vultures. Dead bodies along with dead horses and the remains of the dead elephants were the focus on their disposal activities. It was a lot of work and not exactly glamorous but the City Council put out word that the Prince himself would personally pay double a day's wages for any who helped in the cleanup which attracted plenty of people who wanted coin and he could afford it. But they also had help from the Golden Company prisoners they kept. They had about two thousand former sellswords of the Golden Company and half of them wanted to leave. As Will promised he gave them safe conduct and ships took them to another port but a thousand stayed behind and pledge fealty to the Crown Prince of the Seven Kingdoms. He'd have some of his senior men work on their training and ensure their loyalty but for now they would help in dealing with the deceased and everything left behind.
The bodies would be put in the large grave dug on the side of the road while the dead horses and elephants would be burned. Anything of note that they missed on their initial clearing of the basecamp would be piled together. Coin, supplies, and anything else was gathered, organized, and logged. Will wearing a light tunic and had a piece of cloth tied over his nose and mouth to help keep out the smell as he moved one of the dead bodies over to the grave and pushed it in. He walked back over and grabbed another body and pushed it in when he saw the small pyre burning in the distance. That was for the horses and an even larger one was being set up for the dead elephants but it was a mix of a giant grave dug in the ground and laid with tinder so it would burn.
Will wiped his forehead on his sleeve when he felt a tap on his leg and turned to see a young boy. "Your grace, you are needed at the collection area."
Will nodded and walked over, chatting and praising the men who were working as he made his way over to the other side of the road where the items taken from the Golden Company camp were collected. Next to the collection area were tents for shade as well as women and children making food and pouring water. Will walked over and cleaned his hands in a wash basin set up before wetting a rag and wiping his face of the blood and sweat. After cleaning up he walked into a tent to see Cedric busy at work.
"Cedric, you needed to see me?"
"Yes, your grace. One of the men found something in a chest that I think you should see." Cedric told him, reaching over to his side, and pulling out a sword. It was a hand-and-a-half longsword or bastard sword so it was Westerosi in creation with a black sheath and black leather handle. Will took the sword to get a better look and noticed the steel dragon-head cross guards on the handle and the large ruby on the pommel. He unsheathed the sword a bit to get a look at the blade and immediately recognized the distinct rippled stitching in the blade.
"This is Valyrian steel…" Will muttered and Cedric nodded. He looked at the steel of the blade and noticed that instead of the traditional steel color of the blade, it was a distinct darker color like the Valyrian steel had been tempered and polished to a darker contrast.
"It is. One of the men found it in the remains of what was the tent of the Captain. Given the history of the Golden Company and the distinct dragon-head cross guard…I think we both know what sword that is." Cedric suggested and Will looked at him.
"You think this is…this is actually Blackfyre?" He asked Cedric. "The ancestral Valyrian steel sword of House Targaryen and carried by Aegon the Conqueror himself centuries ago? The sword that provided the name for House Blackfyre? I thought this was lost centuries ago."
"It was but last known records of its usage was by Aegor Rivers who took it with him on his exile to the Free Cities where he eventually founded the Golden Company. Rumors and stories spread that the sword was lost after that and anyone who could tell us what this really is, are long dead. We might never really know exactly the truth but given the dragon heads on the cross guard I think it's a fair guess that this is the real thing." Cedric told him as Will fully unsheathed the blade from its sheath.
"The sword of Aegon the Conqueror himself." He muttered, looking at it in awe.
"Fitting it fell into the hands of another Conqueror." Cedric joked and Will chuckled a bit. "Would you like to hold onto it?"
"No." Will put the sword back in its sheath and handed it back to him. "Gift the man who found the blade some extra gold and place it with the rest of my things in my trunk."
"Of course." Cedric replied. "Anything else, your grace."
"You could come outside and join us in the hot desert heat and move dead bodies?" Will offered.
"Much appreciated your grace but we both know my talents are more suited to tasks such as this. Though I am praying for you." Cedric remarked. Will chuckled and walked out of the tent to get back to work.
A few days later…
Will finished some talks with the Yunkish Council regarding their progress in the city. Trade and commerce was abundant, the training for the Yunkish City Watch was still underway, and the schools were completely full. The dockyards outside the city by the water were still under construction but enough was built that more ships were able to dock which improved goods and cargo allocation. The cleanup of the Battle of the Golden Company was complete and the growing work done to the birchwood forests to the south was a big benefit of the city. The water wells they had dug provided plenty of fresh water for the city and for the new spider web canals to irrigate their crops. It would still be a while before the crops bloomed as well as the mills they were building but the water itself was good enough for now. And the canal to the city was getting closer and closer to being finished. All in all, Will did his job in promising to make things better for Yunkai without the Wise Masters. The Astaporian Council even reached out to invite Yunkai to join them in some preliminary games. The big games that Will helped set up to replace the start of the Fighting Pits season was still a year way so the Astaporian council got the idea to host smaller games throughout the year to keep up interest and attract new contestants. The Yunkish council was intrigued and challengers were being found and trained.
After his lengthy talks, he and the others accompanied Gendry and Edric to a blacksmith for the completion of their Valryian steel weapons. Will gifted them the axe/hammer head and the trident spear tip respectively but they both needed to get their own handles and shafts so they went to a blacksmith to get them made. He and the others watched as Gendry and Edric spoke with the blacksmith and his assistants on any final adjustments that needed to be made while Missandei translated but luckily the boys were simple like he was. The blacksmith attached the hammer and axe of Gendry's weapon onto a steel/iron shaft that was about three feet in length making his weapon a two handed one. It had a leather wrap around the shaft and the only decorative element was the stag etched onto the metal that combined the axe and hammer. (2)
After that, the blacksmith attached Edric's trident spear tip to his spear handle which was made of a steel but smaller in width then Edric's hammer so it was longer and lighter. With the spear tip attached, his trident stood a tall 6ft9inches. It was long and taller than Edric now but its length also provided unique combat capabilities and he would grow into it one day. He also had a small buckler made of a light steel material interwoven with leather he would wear on his opposite hand for blocking and striking. (3)
"They are done." The Blacksmith announced as both boys grabbed their new Valyrian steel weapons.
Gendry hefted up his axe/hammer and moved it around. The weight would take some getting used to but if he kept to his training and built up his strength then he would be deadly with it. Edric clanged his trident/spear into the ground and the metallic clank it made was clean and pure. He tightened the buckler on his hand and looked at the shine of the Valryian steel on those spear tips. The length would be an issue for a while but once he was familiar with the weapon then he would be deadly.
"How do they feel?" Will asked them.
"Cumbersome and heavy." Gendry answered.
"Long and heavy." Edric answered.
"The weapons will take time to master but these are yours now. So, make sure you take care of them and they will do the same for you when the time comes." Will told them and they nodded. "Good. They're fine weapons but all good weapons have names. Any ideas?"
"Actually yes. That was one thing we were able to decide right away." Gendry held up his axe and smiled. "Meet Stormbreaker."
Edric spun his spear in his hands before stomping the end into the ground. "Riptide."
"Fierce names which will make people shiver in fear and awe but mean nothing if you can't fight with them. Now that you've had them made, you can train with them. Hercules is ready to take your training to the next level." Will said with a smile and Hercules smirked.
"I've got a lot of training planned for you two." Hercules told them and both Edric and Gendry started to get nervous.
"Fuck…"
"Enjoy yourselves. I know I will." Will joked as paid the blacksmith and returned to the pyramid to train.
Several hours later…
Will was in one of the open courtyards of the pyramid with his bow to make sure his archery skills remained sharp. He had finished training with Ser Arthur Dayne who was currently sitting in a chair off to the side with Orys perched up on a table next to some food. Will released another arrow at a human sized target and hit it in the head for the sixth time. The target itself was riddled with arrows in the head, heart, stomach, and groin and that was just the 7th one. He had six other targets off to the side that were littered with arrows.
He put his bow on his back and walked over to his target, replaced it with a fresh one and then placing two more on either side of it so he had three. After refilling his quiver with more arrows, he stood across the courtyard from the targets at a good distance of about 25 yards. He took a deep breath and dipped his hands in some resin and sand to make sure he had a clean release before taking three arrows out of his quiver. He slowly walked forward and fired an arrow at the middle target and hit it in the heart before quickly firing the second and then third in rapid succession with the three arrows landed hitting the heart area. He kept walking and plucked two arrows from his quiver and fired the first at the target to the left and then quickly fired the second at the target to his right and hit both in the head. He pulled out three arrows, put them on the drawstring and fired them all at once, hitting all three targets in the chest. He was about 15 yards from the targets so he pulled out two arrows and fired them quickly one after another at the target on the left before pulling out two more arrows. He didn't fire and instead switched hands so his bow was in his right hand and fired two arrows at the target to his right in quick succession. He moved his bow back to his left hand and pulled out four arrows with his draw hand and fired them in rapid succession at the middle target's head, landing all four shots.
He smiled, seeing his skills had not been atrophied by his time asleep. He heard the schinkt of a sword and quickly drew an arrow before turning around and firing it, hitting a dagger that was thrown through the air at him. Ser Arthur saw the dagger and quickly unsheathed Dawn and Will drew another arrow aiming in the general direction from where the knife was thrown. "Come out slowly, now." He warned his attacker.
"Peace, your grace. I didn't mean to alarm you." He heard and out walked Oberyn Martell holding his hands up in peace. With him was his paramour Ellaria Sand and their daughter Tyene.
"Then why the dagger?" Will asked him.
"A blunted one for training. I heard tales of your skill with the bow and wanted to see for myself." Oberyn remarked.
Will put his arrow back in his quiver and gestured over to the wooden and straw targets he had used. "Wouldn't those have been enough?"
"Targets are good for training but what happens when a dagger is thrown at you in a fight. Clearly, I was in the wrong. Apologies." Oberyn replied in his usual playful manner before walking over to the table and getting some wine only for Orys to caw and flap his wings to scare him away. "I think your bird is upset."
"Orys just has a thing for snakes who get too playful. He's often found of eating them." Will quickly drew an arrow and fired it at Prince Oberyn's belt, snagging his pouch of coins and pinning it to the ground behind him so fast that it caught him off guard. "And next time, just ask."
"Oh, but where's the fun in that?" Tyene asked as she walked over and picked up the dagger her father threw. Oberyn tried to shoo Orys away and the bird eventually did but not because he told him to go away but because he wanted to leave. Oberyn poured himself a cup of wine and then one for Ellaria. "You are quite skilled with the bow. I've never seen a bow like that or that style of archery."
"The bow was a gift from Prince Jalabhar when I helped him reclaim his throne in the Summer Isles. And the style is the art of speed archery. Something I learned there as well." Will drew four arrows and fired them one after another with the arrows being held in the same hand they were released. Something not seen in Westeros or even Essos. "I see my target and put him down before he has a chance to attack."
"Impressive." Tyene held her hand to the bow and he nodded, handing it to her. "This isn't like any bow I've seen."
"It's a special recurve bow. Built for accuracy, speed, and power." He took out an arrow and handed it to her. She carefully put it on the draw string and then held up the bow but her position was kind of off.
"Ah, ah. Relax." He cautioned her as she pulled the string back. "Elbow down, just a bit."
He used his hand and lowered her elbow which was pointing up too high. He straightened the bow and noticed her grip. "Relax this hand." He got her to relax her fingers a bit before putting his hand on her shoulder to move her elbow down a little bit more. Over at the side, Ellaria and Oberyn shared knowing glances before looking over at Ser Arthur who chuckled and hid his smirk. "Now, pull back gently and use your mouth as an anchor."
"Excuse me?"
"Put your hand to your mouth if you can." He told her, putting his hand on her shoulder so she could feel his warm, calloused hand and he could feel her smooth skin. The two were very close together to the point that he could smell her perfume of lilac and lemon and she could smell the faint sweat glistening his body. She smiled as he got her to relax her bow arm a bit. "Now, you need all three fingers to come off the bow string at the same time. Relax. Breathe…and release."
She did but missed the target by a wide margin. "After your helpful tips I was thinking I had this." She remarked.
"If only. Archery isn't something one just picks up in a day. It took me a while to learn the basics and hit a target. But it does have excellent lessons that distinguish the average bowmen from expert marksman. To use a bow and arrow requires patience…and discipline." Will quickly pulled an arrow for his quiver and fired it at an arrow in the chest of the middle target, splitting it down the middle. "See?"
"I see you enjoy showing off a bit." Tyene remarked as she walked over to the table and picked up goblet of water. She drank some before pouring the rest out and holding it up. Will nodded and she threw it into the air where he quickly fired an arrow and hit it. He had a playful smirk on his face as Tyene then took an empty plate and threw it up and he hit it in one shot. She then grabbed an apple but before she could throw it, he fired an arrow and pinned it to the wall.
"I could do this all day. It's kind of fun." He joked, walking over, and removing his quiver for his back.
"Well, stamina is a very good sign for your future, your grace." Oberyn assured him.
"Indeed. Your lovers will be overjoyed that you had such boundless energy. I'm sure your handmaiden appreciates it." Ellaria remarked.
"Funny and cute but that has not happened. Missandei is a trusted friend and I wouldn't dishonor her or ruin our friendship by forcing myself on her." Will stated.
"Oh, it's not forcing if she is a willing participant? Surely you have had a woman or even a man to warm your bed since you've been here." Oberyn pointed out but Will's lack of response gave him his answer. "You haven't? Color me shocked. Given who your father is I would have thought that you took after him in that regard as well. How about we take you to the pleasure houses? I sure there are many women who would love the chance to show you how things are done?"
"Easy, Oberyn." Ser Arthur told him.
"It's all right, Ser Arthur. Prince Oberyn is just being himself. It's something I've come to expect with his companionship on this journey so far. Although with his sexual escapades, I imagine he visits the city's healers more often than I do. All that fucking is fun until it does something to your manhood." Will joked, grabbing his swords and bowed his head before walking away. "If I hear word of a venereal disease spreading throughout Yunkai then I have an idea on where it might have started."
Ser Arthur chuckled and pat Oberyn on the arm before he followed William out. "And witty. Not at all like his father. What do you think, Tyene?"
"I think we know what she's thinking, Oberyn." Ellaria said to him as they saw the look on her face. They chuckled as did Tyene. Suffice to say that the game was now being played.
Will had gotten washed up and dressed in some clean clothes before retiring to his chambers. Missandei and Ser Arthur were with him and Orys was settled on his perch in the room, nibbling at some fish. Cedric was with them as well and they were all together because they were looking after and observing Durran. The small blue scaled dragon sat on the table as Will used a knife to cut up a small piece of cooked meat and held it up. Durran coyly snatched the meat in his jaws and ate it.
"Well, Durran eats well for a little hatchling." Will remarked as he pet the small dragon on the head with his finger and Durran nuzzled into his hand. He noticed that it scales were colored blue but its wings were streaked and rippled with a darker color, almost black. "I've managed to take care and raise Orys as well as Shadow but I've never raised a dragon."
"Well, no one has in centuries. All we know about them are the stories of old and the books that maesters have written about them. Lucky for you, your grace, I have read most of those books and have a very good memory." Cedric assured him.
"As always, Cedric, you are wiser beyond your years and the key to my success and growth of knowledge." Will praised him as Missandei fed Durran another piece of meat. The small dragon seemed to have grown a fondness for her as well as the others. "He likes you."
Missandei smiled as Cedric moved his hand over and Durran looked at it for a moment before tilting his head to the side a bit. Cedric then grabbed a piece of meat and held it out and Durran happily ate it.
"As he should because he has seen us enough times and in your company as well." Cedric stated. "Dragons are intelligent creatures. Even smarter than men according to some Maesters. They know who they like and they know who they don't like."
"Guess that means we're the lucky few." Ser Arthur added.
"It's also been said that dragons have been known to understand words and even respond to commands by their riders." Cedric stated.
"Really? Can you understand me?" Will asked aloud as Durran walked over and stood in front of him. The dragon just looked at him and titled his head to the side. "Ser Arthur, hand me some of the raw meat Orys didn't eat."
Ser Arthur nodded and grabbed small piece of raw fish that Orys didn't eat and put it down on the table. Durran looked at the fish of piece and sniffed but didn't eat it. "He doesn't like raw meat."
"Fire…uh, dragonfire?" Will said but Durran just looked at him so he tried something else. "Dracarys."
"Dracarys?" Ser Arthur didn't know what the word meant.
"It means Dragonfire in High Valyrian." Will answered before looking at the dragon and the dragon looked right back at him. "Durran…Dracarys."
The dragon looked at the piece of raw fish before letting out some small growls and screeches with small puffs of fire ebbing out from its mouth. It then opened its jaw and let out a screech and a small stream of fire that cooked the raw fish meat. Everyone smiled as they saw Durran eat the fish meat after his fire breath cooked it. "Guess that answers that question." Cedric remarked. "With a little more training we can make sure that Durran doesn't do anything he shouldn't."
"As much as anyone has ever tamed a dragon. But the question remains what are your plans for him when you're done in Slaver's Bay? Do you plan to bring him back to Westeros?" Ser Arthur asked Will and got a shrug in response.
"I'm not sure if that would be wise. My father would damn near have a heart attack. We'll revisit that problem when it arises." Will told him when there was a knock on his door. "Enter."
The door opened and an Unsullied walk in. "Pardon the interruption your grace but Tyrion Lannister would like a word."
"Send him in." he responded and the Unsullied soldier nodded before returning a few seconds later with Tyrion. "Tyrion, can I help you with something?"
"I, uh…just wanted to check in on his grace and see how you were doing." Tyrion answered but they could tell by the fluctuations in his voice and the direction of his gaze as to the real purpose of his visit.
"Thank you, Tyrion. And while I do believe a part of that is true, it would appear that you are here to see my friend." Will gestured to Durran. "Go ahead but be careful. He's been a gentle animal so far but that's only been with people he likes so don't do anything to upset him."
Tyrion nodded and walked over to the table where he looked at Durran in awe. The dragon turned its gaze to their new guest and just tilted its head to the side in confusion. Tyrion slowly held his hand to the dragon but didn't touch it, instead letting it decide on the first move. Durran looked at Tyrion and sniffed him cautiously as he walked around on the table but kept his gaze on the new friend. Tyrion's expression of childhood joy and wonder was easy to spot for the others.
"When I was a child, an uncle asked what gift I wanted for my name day. I begged him for one of you. It wouldn't even have to be a big dragon. It could be little like me I said. Everyone laughed like it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. And my father told me the last dragon had died a century ago. I cried myself to sleep that night. But here you are."
Durran then slowly walked forward and Will motioned to Tyrion just to use his index finger and pet his head so he did. He brushed his index finger against Durran's head and felt its smooth scales and the gentle heat that emanated from its body. "Incredibly, isn't he?" Will said.
"He is. You are a lucky man, your grace. There are many who would pay a king's ransom and then more for even a glimpse of this creature." Tyrion spoke. "Don't worry. His secret will remain safe with me. No one will know but I doubt anyone would believe me."
"Fair point. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, Dragons are still the stuff of legends." Will muttered as Durran spread his wings and let out a happy screech. He wasn't sure what the future had in store for Durran but he had a feeling that the two were connected.
Line Break xxxxx
Will was sitting in the Yunkish Council chamber listening to the members discuss the issues of the day and explain solutions to any problems that arose. Nothing major but just some discussions and progress reports about any incidents that occurred which were mainly drunken brawls or minor thefts which were being looking into. Trade was good and the people were happy and kept busy with either work or recreation. The Yunkish council announced to the city that they were looking for competitors to compete in the games being hosted in Astapor and it drew a lot of people. They were training and hosting smaller qualifying games in the weeks to come for the horse racing, foot racing, archery, tourney fighting and other events. They even talked about opening schools for these events to help train their champions. And Will just sat back and let them work things out. He wasn't really needed except to explain how the games works back in Astapor. Just like in Astapor, he slowly reduced his time with the council so they were able to handle problems themselves because soon enough he would be leaving. In fact, he had Cedric begin making plans for their travel to Meereen which included getting supplies ready.
After the meeting was over, he took a walk through the city and blended in the crowds of people and spoke to them. They were all happy as can be and enjoying their new city. He had done good work and it showed. After his walk, he arrived back at the pyramid and walked into a courtyard to see some of the men training. Gendry and Edric were with them and training with their new weapons. Hercules was overseeing Gendry's training and building up his strength to better use his axe/hammer as he sparred against Garlan Tyrell. Gendry was good with an axe/hammer but the new one was slightly heavier than the usual one he would use. And Hercules told him that he still needed to build up his strength if he wanted to use it as best as possible.
Edric was over with Amphiaraus and surprisingly Obara Sand and Oberyn Martell who were training him with his new trident spear. Amphiaraus had been Edric's teacher but Oberyn was a skill spearman and showed the youngest brother some things that Amphiaraus didn't. Given the trident spear's longer profile, Oberyn showed him some Dornish spear tricks and Obara instructed him on what to do. They walked Edric through some staff spins and quick thrusts that made use of agility and precision instead of brute strength.
"Remember, one hand over the other and move in fluid motion." Obara instructed as she showed him what to do with his hands. Oberyn moved forward doing several smooth figure-8 spins and twirls with his staff that showed precise agility and movement. "Your grace, come to join the training?"
"I could do with some practice." Will walked over, unbuckled Storm's Wrath and put it on the ground before grabbing two practice blades.
"Watch." Obara told Edric as she spun her spear and attacked. Will blocked several slashes and cuts as Obara then did some figure-8 spins to block his sword swipes and then she did a thrust at his side that he deflected to the ground. He kicked out one leg that forced her to a knee and rolled over her before bringing his sword down on her but she managed to raise her spear up and block it at the last second. "Impressive."
"Thank you." He smiled before backing up and raising a leg to avoid her ground sweep and then leaned back to avoid a slash at his face. She kept him back with several thrusts that he blocked and used her spear's length to keep control over distance. She spun and brought her spear down on him which he blocked and pushed it back before leaning back to avoid a staff strike to the head. Then he implemented a side block against her spear and parried it to the side before doing a slash that she blocked. He then spun into a leg sweep and knocked her onto her back and thrust his sword at her when a whip caught his wrist before he could land the blow.
He turned and saw Nymeria holding the whip with Tyene by her side, daggers drawn. "The Sand Snakes rarely fight alone. Shall we see how well you do against three of us?" Nymeria playfully inquired.
"Sounds like fun." Will remarked as she pulled him back and allowed Obara to get to her feet. The whip came undone as Will readied his swords against the three Sand Snakes while everyone watched.
"Your daughters are like you in many ways its seems." Hercules said to Oberyn.
"Indeed, they are. Fueled by passion and life." Oberyn replied.
Tyene attacked first with her daggers, using several quick cuts and strikes that Will managed to block with his swords when Nymeria lashed her whip and hit him in the leg. He recoiled a bit and dodged Tyene's dagger and then blocked Obara's spear when Nymeria wrapped her whip around his stomach. He grabbed the whip and moved to Nymeria, throwing a slash that she ducked before he unwound himself a bit and blocked Obara's spear and then kicked her back. He then pulled Nymeria close and blocked her dagger before kicking out one of her legs and knocking her onto her back. She let go of the whip and rolled away as Will then quickly blocked Tyene's dagger and grabbed her wrist. She raised her other dagger but he raised his arm and his gauntlet deflected the blow. He pulled her close and then threw her into Nymeria and the two tumbled to the ground, allowing him to focus on Obara. He dodged a spear slash and then did a low block before parring a spear thrust and slashing with his sword that she blocked and parried into another block from his thrust. She parried his thrust and moved his sword to the side and raised her staff up to block his strike but got kicked in the chest and knocked onto her back.
Nymeria lashed her whip and caught his right sword which she pulled out of his hand. Tyene thrust with her dagger but he grabbed her wrist, pulled her close, and flipped his remaining sword into a reverse grip and brought it to her neck. "Dead." He winked before spinning her around and throwing her into Obara as Nymeria lashed out her whip again but he grabbed it. It wrapped tightly around his hand and the two struggled before he pulled her forward and then knocked her onto her back with a leg sweep. He knocked her dagger out of her hand and then pointed his sword at her neck. "Dead."
He quickly moved his sword behind him to block Obara's spear before turning and doing an overhead slash that she blocked. He parried her spear thrust to the left and then ducked under a spear slash before grabbing the staff. He twisted the spear so her arms were over one another and then took her to the ground with a hip throw. She hit the ground on her back but before she could get up Will activated his hidden blade and held it at her throat. "And dead."
Everyone clapped at the incredible spectacle of the spar and it was a spectacle. The prince was already a proven warrior but the Sand Snakes were the surprise for those that hadn't seen them fight. Will retracted his hidden blade and helped Obara back to her feet. "It's safe to say that your reputation in battle isn't a lie told by bards." She remarked.
"Glad to prove you wrong." He smiled before walking over and helping Nymeria back to her feet. "Are you all right?"
"We're not those delicate King's Landing women you've known growing up. Dornish women are tough." Nymeria assured him as he helped her to her feet.
"Of course. I would expect nothing less." He remarked before walking over and helping Tyene back to her feet. "I trust that you are all right as well."
"I am. But next time will have a different outcome." Tyene promised.
"There will be a next time?" He asked and she gave a mix between a playful smirk and the piercing gaze of a lion eyeing its prey.
"Only next time there will be no weapons." She whispered in his ear before giving it a small bite. That bit of affection caught him off guard but she topped it off with a kiss to the cheek before walking away. He watched her leave as she joined her father and her sisters.
"Bitch." Nymeria said to her as Ser Arthur walked over and noticed Will seemed to be lost in thought so he snapped his fingers in front of his face to get him back.
"Are you all right?" He asked and Will snapped back.
"I'm fine." Will assured him but Ser Arthur could tell what was going on.
"You've just experienced one of the few things that can sway and challenge even the strongest of minds and drives in men such as yourself." Ser Arthur joked, patting him on the back. "It's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. Considering your age and your father's reputation, it's actually commendable that you've stayed as strong as you have."
"I'm glad you're enjoying yourself." Will remarked, walking over, and placing his practice swords back on the rack putting Storm's Wrath back around his waist.
"Forgive me, I didn't mean to jest and there's nothing too mock. It's a natural part of life, William. And should something happen there's nothing wrong with what occurs." Ser Arthur pointed out as he walked over. That's when he saw the conflicted look on his face. "I know you're worried about becoming like your father, especially after learning what you have. You've shown a great deal of fortitude way beyond your years, William but don't let it prevent you from enjoying life."
"Says the man who has lived twice my years yet is as celibate as a eunuch." Will stated. "And even now when you are no longer a member of the Kingsguard, how celibate you remain."
"Fair point but I did enjoy life before I was sworn to the order." Arthur told him. "All I'm saying is that should something happen then there is no shame in it. I understand that you have been diligent and disciplined in your life to forge your own path but you should know even the mightiest steel put under such pressure has a habit of breaking. You're doing excellent work here but if you don't stop to enjoy your own life then you are not living it."
"You're not actually suggesting that I start drinking copious amounts of wine and start heading to the pleasure houses every single day like my father would." Will said to him.
"He speaks of balance." They heard as Hundred Eyes walked over. "As my lessons have informed you, there is a balance in life. The Yin and the Yang. To achieve balance then you need both. You have come far in our training but true balance still eludes you. You have an abundance of Yang but without the Yin, Yang dies on the battlefield."
"What are you suggesting, Sifu?" Will asked him so Hundred Eyes walked forward and put two fingers to his forehead.
"So hard you strive to be not like your father…yet in doing so you have become like him in a way. A man consumed by vices in response to the past but not in alcohol or women but in tireless enduring of training and obsession with perfection that does not exist." Hundred Eyes said to him.
"So…I'm wrong to exercise control?" Will asked him.
"That I cannot answer but I do know this. The more you try to control something, the more it controls you. Free yourself, and let things take their own natural course." Hundred Eyes cautioned him. "And if it helps…I did to have a life before the temple and enjoyed the accompaniment of beautiful women."
That earned a chuckle from Will and Ser Arthur. "A regular bachelor, weren't you?" Arthur asked him.
"Perhaps but you will never know." Hundred Eyes answered and decided to give William one last piece of advice to live his best life. "If you truly wish to be the best prince and King you can be…then do not be afraid of the man your father is and if you will end up like him should you drop your guard. Instead, find balance."
Hundred Eyes bowed his head and walked away. This gave William something to think about and Ser Arthur could see that. "We're just trying to make sure that in helping others live their best lives that you do as well." Arthur told him. "For once…don't worry about the future and what should happen. We both know that you're not enough like your father to turn into him with the jug of wine in your hand and the multiple women on your bed."
"And to the one I will be betrothed to in the future?" William asked.
"No King has ever been a virgin on his wedding night." Arthur pointed out and William was enough of a realist to agree. "Perhaps Tyene might be that girl or she may not. I grew up in Dorne and their beliefs are much looser than the rest of the Seven Kingdoms. And I doubt there is anyone in your company that would shame you if something should happen or it shouldn't. If anything, it would make you much more human instead of the god that many believe you to be."
"Really?"
"After everything you've done and been through, the thought has been passed around." Arthur remarked and it earned a chuckle. "So, what will you do?"
"Try to find balance. But after I get some more training in."
"That's about the best answer I could hope for with you." Arthur muttered as they left the training courtyard.
They gathered some supplies took a small horse ride out of the city to the Birchwood forests to the south and found a small clearing by outskirts that bordered a small sand beach to the water. Orys flew above and let out a sharp caw before diving down and flying alongside his master. William was running through the rugged terrain with his bow in hand and quiver on his back. He jumped down a hill and rolled forward before firing an arrow at a tree that had a target carved in it. He then ran through the area of rocks, dirt, and sand and fired arrows at trees with other targets carved in. William was training his accuracy on the move as well as getting some cardio in. He managed to hit three bullseyes while running and then fired an arrow at the last target at the bottom of a hill before jumping down. He rolled down the hill and rolled back to his feet before firing another arrow at the same target and splitting the first arrow he shot down the middle.
After his archery training, he did some more running before using a branch for strength training. He had removed his jacket and tunic since it was so hot so he was just wearing his boots and pants. Sweat caked his chiseled and toned torso/upper body as he did several pull ups one after another. He then pulled himself up halfway over the branch and swung forward into a backflip and landed on the ground. "And now?" Ser Arthur wondered.
"Now, all I want is a bath." William replied as he grabbed his things and they road back to Yunkai.
After a nice long bath, William got changed into some clean clothes. He fed Durran and tended to his studies with Cedric before he decided to talk a walk and clear his head. Ser Arthur hung back so the Prince could have some privacy as he walked through the pyramid and then outside to the courtyards. He wandered into a courtyard and sat down on a marble bench, listening to the rustle of leaves from the trees. His gaze traveled around to the water fountain that was fed from a deep water well and then to the various Harpy statutes set up around that used to be a showcase of the Wise Masters wealth and then up at the sky to see the faint orange glow of the sun setting.
He heard a rustle from behind and turned to block the arm of an attacker carrying a dagger. He could smell the faint poison on the blade so he quickly threw his attacker over his shoulder and onto the ground before activating his hidden blade but stopped his attack when he saw who it was. It was Tyene.
"You could have just said hello instead of with a poison dagger." Will told her.
"And where is the fun in that?" Tyene playfully asked as he helped her back up and she sheathed her dagger into the hilt on her belt.
"And if you had actually managed to cut me?" He wondered.
"Then my attraction to you would have dropped significantly." She answered holding up her necklace that had the blue crystal which wasn't actually a crystal but filled with a blue liquid.
"Carry around the antidote with you. Clever." Will remarked and she smiled, dropping her necklace back down and unintentionally drawing attention to her cleavage. His eyes lingered there for a moment before he refocused and diverted his gaze.
"Don't be embarrassed. It's the biggest compliment when a prince lingers his gaze on a woman. Especially a woman as beautiful as I." Tyene assured him and he chuckled before sitting down. "Am I not the most beautiful woman you have ever seen in your travels?"
"You are indeed the most enchanting one I've met so far. I haven't met many that would attack me with a dagger." He pointed out.
"Enchanting but beautiful? Name one more beautiful than I am." She said to him and he started to get nervous. "Oh, is that sweat I see dripping down from your head, your grace? Do I make you nervous?"
"No." He cleared his throat and put up a façade of calm but it wasn't very convincing. She found it amusing and charming.
"A warrior prince who has freed slaves, toppled the Dothraki yet finds himself at the mercy of the most beautiful woman in the world." Tyene said as she decided to be daring and straddled his lap. "Say it. Say I am the most beautiful woman in the world."
Will wasn't sure to do in this situation and turned his head to see if Ser Arthur could help him but he was gone. He was alone. Tyene tilted his head back to her before taking his hand and moved it to her chest and underneath her dress so he could feel her smooth skin with his own hand. "Tyene…"
She shut him up by quickly kissing him. He was caught off guard but quickly kissed back. Unsure of what to do he just let his instincts guide him. Although he had never kissed before he was quickly becoming familiar with it. His hands caressed her breast and she let out soft moans before pulling him close and moving his other hand to her rear. She playfully bit his lip and pulled back as the two took their breaths. Their foreheads were pressed against one another as they looked into each other's eyes. "Something to say, prince or do I need to force it out of you?"
"You are welcome to try." He pulled her close and initiated the kiss this time. The two battled for dominance and soon enough their mouths opened so that their tongues started to do battle. She reached her hands up and placed them together at the back of his neck and combed through the back of his hair while he grabbed onto her rear and began to caress her. Eventually the two left the courtyard and retired to the prince's chambers where they both indulged in each other's company for several hours. Suffice to say that their moans and groans of pleasure were heard outside his chambers.
Several hours later…
William was lying in his bed and curled up next to him was Tyene. The bed was a mess with only a sheet to cover them, their clothes were scattered about, their hair were disheveled and had the occasional bite marks or scratches on their body but etched on both their faces were expressions of pleasure and relaxation. Expressions men and women knew all too well after what they had just done. Will took a deep breath and exhaled as he ran his hand over Tyene's arm and grazed his fingers against her smooth skin. Perhaps there was something to the advice he was given by Ser Arthur and Hundred Eyes. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders and his mind was clearer.
Tyene ran her fingers against his chest and traced them against the occasional scar he had. She ran her finger up and traced a scar on his shoulder. "It was from an arrow." He muttered with his eyes closed. "During the attack on Yunkai I got hit in the shoulder with an arrow. Armor stopped it from penetrating too deep."
"Lucky for you." She muttered, playfully kissing some of the bite marks on his arm that she left. "You'll have a few more after tonight but they are the best kind."
"Speaking from experience?" He wondered.
"Any experience I had didn't compare to what just happened." She told him, kissing his shoulder. "That thing you did with your tongue…who was the lucky maiden who experienced that first?"
"No one. There hasn't been a girl before you." He told her.
"A maid. I slept with a Maiden Prince." She joked and he chuckled a bit.
"I guess you finally wore me down. Or maybe I decided to find balance." He muttered. "Who was your first?"
"Just a boy. Back in Dorne. He was cute but he was weak. Not like you." She replied when they heard the flutter of wings. Orys flew in through the window and landed back on his perch. The second the two entered the room, Orys flew away not wanting to be in the room while they fucked. He now returned and flapped his wings before letting out an annoyed screech. "Your bird doesn't look too happy."
"Guess he didn't like being kicked out." Will joked and she chuckled. "Sorry, Orys. Don't worry. We're done for the night."
"Aye. I'm gonna be sore in the morning but it will be well worth it." She sat up and stretched a bit before lying back down on top of him. Her breasts pressed against his chest and he brought a finger up and ran it through her hair. "What's running through that head of yours right now?"
"Just what everyone else is going to say about what happened tonight." He answered. "Do you think your father will try to kill me for bedding his daughter?"
"No, if anything he'll praise me for bedding you first." She answered and he looked at her funny. "Nymeria wanted to have you first but I beat her to it. And after you defeated her, I dare say that even Obara wouldn't mind trying to test you in bed as well. But be warned, she's not as submissive as I was."
"You don't sound at all disturbed by that."
"Should I be. I got you first and no one can take that away from me. And judging by how eager you were…" Tyene sat up and straddled him before moving her hands down his chiseled chest. "…I know this won't be the last time."
"Only if the beautiful Sand Snake shall have me." He joked bringing her back down and giving her a quick kiss. She kissed back and reached her hands up his arms while he brought his hands down her side as she shivered in delight. The two soon went to bed in each other's arms.
The next day, various members of William's party were sitting around in a dining hall and taking breakfast. Cedric sipped his mug of tea while Hercules and the others chatted as they ate. Tyrion was playing a quick game of dice against Autolycus with Tydeus being his usual messy self while Oberyn was already enjoying his morning wine. Tyene entered and walked over to her father and siblings who began speaking with her. Her arrival did make many wonder where the Prince was but he was soon arriving. Ser Arthur walked into the dining hall with Missandei and William who was cleaned up and dressed in his usual fair. His arrival got everyone's attention and they all clapped.
"There he is, the Crown Prince of the Seven Kingdoms!" Tyrion raised his cup of wine and others did so as well with smiles on their faces. "Yesterday he went to sleep a boy, now he awakes as a man!"
"If he got any sleep. I doubt I did with all that shouting." Hercules joked and everyone laughed. Ser Arthur and Missandei struggled to hold back their smirks and even Cedric and Hundred Eyes couldn't help but laugh.
"Oh, I believe he did. If anything, he slept like a baby." Oberyn added.
"Yes, funny. Ha-ha. Keep it up and I'll use you all for target practice." Will warned them and they chuckled as he walked over and sat down at the table with Cedric and poured himself a cup of water.
"Did you have a good sleep, your grace?" Cedric asked.
"Fine, Cedric." He replied, sipping some water.
"Ah, to be young again and enjoy the spoils of youth." Hundred Eyes said.
"We're glad that you took our advice, William. How do you feel?" Arthur asked.
"Fine." He told them both. "And Missandei, thank you for your discretion in regards to coming to get me ready in the morning."
"Of course, your grace." She bowed her head. "And I trust you are feeling all right?"
He gave her a curt nod in response. "So, your grace? What next?" Cedric asked him. "Things in Yunkai are better then before the Golden Company arrived. The Yunkish Council is doing well, all the projects you have set up are on schedule and the city is secure."
"You're right. We'll make any last preparations and send scouts ahead north. It's time we head to Meereen." Will told them and they nodded.
Line Break xxxxx
Old Ghiscari Road
William and his group had left Yunkai and were on the march to Meereen. It would take 20 days to reach the city with the large army, horses,, siege weapons, and caravan of supplies but that was fine. He had subtly marched out his Unsullied and sent out scouting parties to Meereen to make sure the road was clear. He bid the Yunkish Council farewell and they all wished him good fortune on his journey. Like he did in Astapor, he left behind one thousand Unsullied to keep the city secure incase something happened with Master Gibbs keeping control of the bay. As he and his men left, the people of Yunkai gathered in the streets to watch them leave and prayed for their success. That did a lot to steady his hand and fortify his drive as they traveled up to Meereen.
Four days into the journey, the company stopped to make camp near the hills that overlooked the bay. Tents were set up and guard posts were established with rotating schedules so everyone got some rest. Will summoned everyone of importance into the command tent to go over the planning of what was gonna happen when they reached the city. Will, Ser Arthur Dayne, Hundred Eyes, Cedric, Missandei, Grey Worm, Harion Karstark, Smalljon Umber, Garlan Tyrell, Tyrion Lannister, Oberyn Martell, Hercules, Lord Dondarrion, Thoros, Ser Davos, and Stannis Baratheon were all gathered around a map and a rough drawing of the city of Meereen.
"We're still a fortnight from the city and by now they know we're on our way." Will put some map figures down to mark their position and then the position of the city. "There's only one way to the city and that's up the Old Ghiscari Road. The hills and surrounding ridges would take too long for us to maneuver through them to flank around so we'll be sticking to the main road."
"Meereen sits at the tip of the bay. Closing that off should be the first thing you should do." Stannis told him.
"I'll send word to Master Gibbs and have him move ships to blockade the harbor." Will answered.
"It'll have to be a lot of ships. I spoke with some dockhands and traders back in Yunkai and the Meereenese have at least 90 ships in the bay." Davos said.
"But our ships have armaments that will keep them from leaving." Ser Arthur assured him. "If we continue on the road and establish a siege line outside the city therein lies a new problem. The city itself."
"What do you mean?" Hercules wondered.
"Missandei knows the city better then any of us here. She's been there before." Will said, having her explain.
"I've been there several times with Master Kraznys. Legends say that over a thousand slaves died building the Great Pyramid and walls of Meereen." She spoke.
"And an army of former slaves is coming to free it. Kind of poetic." Oberyn remarked.
"It is the largest and most formidable of the cities in Slaver's Bay. As large as Astapor and Yunkai combined with walls higher and thicker as well. It's northern wall runs along the riverbank and is higher than the rest. They lined with bastions for archers and anchored by great defensive towers at every angle with rows of bronze harpy heads where the Meereenese spill boiling oil on attackers. The city itself is much narrower than Astapor and Yunkai with varying levels of buildings but the Great Pyramid stands tall over them all." She explained and everyone realized the problem they would be facing.
"Meereen is a city where we may need to actually lay a siege in order to take it." Smalljon stated.
"That's the one thing I've tried to prevent in this campaign. Sieges take too long and too many people get kills in the crossfire." Will said. "We're here to liberate them, not lay siege to their city and ruin their lives."
"And with the Golden Company no longer in their employ, the Meereenese won't send out an army to fight you. They'll just hunker down in their walls and wait it out." Garlan added.
"Just lay siege to their city, nephew. In war, sometimes it's necessary." Stannis told him.
"It becomes necessary when no other means of infiltration are possible but I've proven in the past to circumvent expectations. And the more time we give the Masters in the walls, the more time they have to prepare something." Will told his uncle. "Cedric, send word to Astapor and Yunkai and see if the council can give us any helpful information that could let us get into the city. If we can at least get past the wall, then that's part of the victory right there."
"Of course, your grace." Cedric replied.
"As for the rest of you, rest and train. The fighting in that city is going to be cramped and close quarters so prepare accordingly." Will told everyone and they nodded. "We'll meet again when we near the city."
Everyone began to file out of the tent one by one until it was just Will, Ser Arthur, Missandei, Ser Davos, and Stannis. "You've grown well into a command role, nephew but your need for other solutions is a hindrance. In war, sometimes the harder way is the only way."
"I understand that, uncle and the wars in the past have been fought as such with countless dead on both sides. But like all things, warfare changes with time as do strategies. Centuries ago, men didn't fight on horses and now calvary is an important part in any battle. If you stay focused in one way things have been done then you lose what changes can be made." Will wisely put.
"It seems your still fond of using wise proverbs." Ser Davos remarked.
"I actually made that one just now." Will joked.
"It's fair to say that your sense of humor has stayed the same but there is something we must speak about, nephew and it's in regards to your nightly activities." Stannis said and everyone knew what he was talking about. "If you want to have your compatriots step outside."
He gave them a nod and Ser Arthur and Missandei stepped out for a bit followed by Ser Davos. "I take it you're worried I'm turning into father."
"That is a concern. You haven't seen him in a while but I can assure you that his habits haven't changed since you left." Stannis said and Will shrugged his shoulders.
"I figured as much but don't worry, uncle. I've seen my father enough times to not turn into him. You grew up with him. Am I like him as you remembered in your youth?" He questioned.
"No, you're not. You have more restraint and tact then he did. Still, you are a prince. The Crown Prince of the Seven Kingdoms and when you return, should you return, you will need to take a bride." Stannis reminded him.
"Yes, and she will be my Queen and I will honor my vows. I won't become my father." Will swore.
"Then is the Sand girl your future betrothed?" Stannis asked him.
"I don't know. That would be for something my father and Oberyn to decide and I'm not sure if she would even want to marry me." Will stated. "I understand your fears uncle, I do but do not take my night of comfort with Tyene as a sign that I'm turning into my father."
"Nights is the more accurate term." Stannis corrected him and he was right. After their first night together, Tyene had frequented William's chambers every so often. In her words, it was for practice. Practice that involved her drinking moon tea the next morning. "Be careful, Nephew. You are not in Westeros, yes but you still represent the Seven Kingdoms. What will people or your enemies say about you?"
"I think they'll say what they always say about princes or royals like me. That I'm a spoiled silver spooned bastard child of a Northern Lady who was stolen by the Targaryens. Someone who was given everything he could have wanted and is so green that he pisses grass. A milk fed prince who fancies himself a warrior and ventured to Essos to indulge himself in a lifestyle of debauchery, wine, and women." Will remarked. "But the people who know me know the truth. That…is all that matters to me."
He put emphasis on the word that and it showed in how he delivered his little speech to his uncle. Stannis could see he meant it. "You truly believe that?"
"I know who I am." Will stated. Stannis gave him a nod and pat him on the shoulder before leaving. He wasn't big on emotions so that was about as affectionate as he would get.
Things settled in camp and everyone went about their own business. They sat around campfires, told stories, drank, played games, or did whatever they wanted while scouts and guards keep a watchful eye out. Will and Ser Arthur walked into the surrounding hills and saw Gendry and Edric practicing with their weapons so they sat on a rock and watched. Roach was nearby grazing on some grass and Orys was flying around but he also had Durran with him. He took him out of his cage and let him walk around in the grass.
Gendry attacked with his axe/hammer while Edric blocked and parried. After a series of attacks, he defended and then Edric attacked. Will watched them spar and took a sip of water from his pouch as Durran walked around on the grass before climbing up his leg and settling on his lap. Ser Arthur watched as Edric's comfort with his weapon's longer length grew after every spar. "They're getting better." Arthur stated.
"They are. They still have much to learn but I think its fair to say that they could best anyone their age." Will agreed as he felt Durran climb up his shoulder and get comfortable.
They heard Orys's cry as the eagle flew down and dropped a fish it had taken from the bay. It let out another cry and picked at its flesh before using its beak to remove some and put it aside. Durran climbed down Will's shoulder, walked over to the dead fish, and used its dragonfire to cook the raw fish and eat it. "Durran is getting more comfortable with cooking his own food." Arthur said.
"He'll be able to feed himself from now on if he needs to." Will added.
"So, is it fair to say that things between you and Tyene are going well?" Arthur wondered and they two shared a chuckle. "You two have enjoyed each other's company. More than once it's fair to say."
"Are you going to say I told you so?" Will asked him and Arthur shrugged.
"I might save it for later." Arthur quipped. "Well?"
"It has been…interesting." Will found it hard to put into words which wasn't uncommon.
"Interesting, huh? I take it your uncle is a little concerned with what happened?" Arthur pointed out.
"He's worried I'm becoming like my father. Stannis isn't someone who had a rambunctious youth and slept with other women other than his intended bride."
"And its turned him into the dour man he is. Actually, he's a fine example of what you could have turned out to be if you didn't find balance." Arthur told him and Will was a bit frightened at the thought. "Just remember Hundred Eyes words, William. Balance. Something both your father and your uncle lack."
Will nodded as he saw Orys pick at more fish for Durran to eat when they heard the crunch of grass and turned to see Tyene walk over. Arthur gave William a knowing look and walked away to give them some privacy. "Your grace." She smiled and playfully bowed.
"There's no need to call me that." He reminded her.
"But I do so enjoy aggravating you a bit. Makes you so much more forceful in bed." She joked as she sat down next to him. Durran took note of Tyene before he resumed eating. "Shall I be joining you in your bed tonight, your grace or have you grown tired of me already?"
"If I answered yes then you'd show up anyway with your dagger at my throat." He pointed out.
"You catch on quick. But perhaps I should leave you alone tonight and see if Nymeria makes her move. Perhaps she brings her whip." She whispered and bit his ear before kissing him on the cheek. He chuckled and noticed Edric and Gendry stop their spar to look at them.
"Are you two gonna gawk like birds or keep training?" He asked them and they chuckled before getting back to it. "You think your sister might try something like that?"
"I imagine so. Now that you are no longer a maid she might try to see if you are worth her time. Although from what I've told her, that is an utmost certainty." She promised.
"You are incorrigible." He told her.
"As all good Dornish women are." Tyene whispered.
Later that night…(4)
Night descended on the camp and everyone was resting by a firepit or had retired to their tents. The Unsullied had switch guards so fresh ones replaced the ones who had just gotten off of guard positions. The moon shined on the camp and only firepits or torches lit the area. The prince's tent was lit by a few candles and they managed to shine a faint shadow on the activities happening inside. And if the shadows weren't a big enough hint then the noises coming from inside were a dead giveaway as they had been coming from the prince's tent for the past hour.
Tyene was on her back and William was between her legs with his hands planted by her head and her legs wrapped around him. Tyene panted and moaned as William worked his hips into her repeatedly. Long gone was the unsure boy but instead was a confident man who was familiar enough to know what to do when. Tyene tensed up and let out a loud moan as William leaned down and planted a heavy kiss on her lips. She kissed back and moaned into his mouth as she reached her hands up and wrapped them around his shoulders, caressing his muscles as he continued thrusting through her release. Tyene separated from the kiss and could barely contain her bodily shivers before trying to match his pace but then decided to change things up. She managed to move him onto his back and get on top, straddling him. She grinded her hips back and forth and placed her hands against his shoulders to keep him down. She gasps and whimpers as her body set the rhythm while the prince just facilitated her. She worked herself into a frenzy as he grabbed her rear and helped her move and soon enough her moans started to get louder and louder. She dug her nails into his shoulders and he started to groan before she leaned down and kissed him, whispering for him to let go and release. He nodded and their pace increased to its feverish high before Tyene let out a moan and then scream while the prince groaned in release and the pleasurable heat shot through both their bodies. Tyene came down from her high and collapsed against Will as she shook her hips and wiped his hair from his forehead and kissed him. He kissed back and pulled her into his arms and the two enjoyed the warm embrace while the cool night breeze that fluttered into the tent every now and then cooled them down.
"Another practice…well spent." Tyene muttered and Will chuckled.
"How much longer before you stop calling it practice?" He wondered.
"Probably days ago. I just didn't want your ego to get bigger." She joked as she nibbled his ear. "I want to save that for something else."
He chuckled and the two rested a bit before enjoying their night.
A few days later…
William and his army were nearing Meereen so they decided to meet up and discuss plans for when they got there. He and some of his men stopped on the side of the road to talk while looking at a map while the army continued to march when they heard horse hooves closing in.
"YOUR GRACE!" They looked over and saw it was Autolycus and some Dothraki scouts coming back from scouting up ahead. "Your grace!"
"What is it?" Will asked him.
"There's something you need to see." Autolycus told him so he and the others followed him to the front where the army had stopped. The reason they had stopped was because of what they saw which dropped their hearts into their stomachs. Missandei covered her mouth, Edric and Gendry had to look away and even Stannis's stoic exterior showed genuine shock. Will just had a look of genuine horror and sadness. They saw a young girl, a slave girl dead and crucified on a post on the side of a road like she were a scarecrow. She couldn't have been more than six or sevens years old…no older than his cousin Shireen but here she was strung up like nothing on the side of the road. Her skin pale and baked in the sun so she had been here for a while.
"There's one on every mile marker from here to Meereen." Hercules told him.
"How many mile markers are there?" Will asked.
"163, your grace." Cedric told him.
"I'll have our men ride ahead and bury them. You don't need to see this." Ser Arthur said.
"No." Will replied. "I will see each and every one of their faces. Get the shovels and remove her from the post."
They took the girl down and gave her a proper burial, removing her collar and burning it before they put her in the ground. The Great Masters might have done this to warn William away but all they did was seal their fates. The Conqueror was coming for them and he would make them pay for what they have done.
Meereen
Will rode atop Roach as he and his army had finally arrived at the final city of Slaver's Bay. Meereen, home of the Great Masters with its great pyramid and bronze harpy statue visible from miles away. William decided to march his army to the front gate as a show of force and see how the Meereenese responded while he had Thoros, Lord Dondarrion, and Autolycus take some men on a recon mission around the flanks of the city to spot a possible entry point. The Meereenese wouldn't be paying attention to them since they would be focused on him and his army. The Unsullied stood at attention in their vast rows, the Dothraki and their horses assembled and the remaining Golden Company sellswords stood with them.
Roach slowly walked past the large main gate, giving William a good look at it. It was indeed as formidable as Missandei warned them it was. High atop the walls were Meereenese soldiers stationed around but now there were growing spectators of both Slaver's, their families, and their slaves who had come to see the Conqueror with their own eyes. Will ushered Roach to a stop and got off as Missandei, Cedric, Ser Arthur, Hundred Eyes, Hercules and the others, Stannis, Ser Davos, Garlan Tyrell, Smalljon, Oberyn, Tyrion, and Grey Worm stood with him at the head of his army when they heard the gate open.
"Are they attacking?" Tyrion wondered as they saw the gate open only slightly and a single person rode out on a horse.
"A single rider. The Champion of Meereen. They'll want you to send your own champion against them." Ser Arthur told him as the Meereenese slaver's cheered for their champion. He was clad in armor and on a white horse that rode far from the gate and stopped at the side near the sandstone ridges. Their champion got off his horse and proceeded to shout in Low Valyrian.
"What is he doing?" Gendry asked as they all saw him doing something.
"I think he plans to—" Ser Davos stopped as they saw the champion piss in the sand in front of them. Will just sighed as did the others while the Meereenese watching on the walls all laughed.
"He says that we are an army of men without man parts. He claims the Prince is a Westerosi coward who hides his cock in his own asshole." Missandei translated his shouting.
"Charming man." Oberyn remarked.
"Ignore him, your grace. Those are meaningless words." Garlan told him.
"Not meaningless if half the city you intend to take is listening to them." Stannis added.
"If this is how they want to act…then fine. I have something to say to them but first let's see how good their champion is." Will declared.
"Let one of your men do it, your grace. You're the leader of the army and the crown prince. Pick a champion." Cedric told him.
"Allow me the honor, your grace. I will not disappoint you." Grey Worm declared.
"That's all right, Grey Worm. You're the Commander of the Unsullied. Your place is with your brothers." Will told him and Grey Worm nodded.
"I'll do it, your grace. Silence that man for good." Garlan stepped forward.
"I wouldn't mind the challenge. Seems like a good bit of fun." Oberyn offered.
"I'm always up for a fight." Hercules stated.
"Allow me, William. I can kill him quickly." Ser Arthur assured him.
"Thank you all but I'll handle this. Show the Great Masters that they havee no idea who they're dealing with and that I don't need someone else to do my fighting for me." Will told them. "Besides, I'd like to silence their champion myself."
"Don't needlessly put yourself at risk, nephew. You're the crown prince and leader of this army. You're needed in command." Stannis told him.
"And as the commander, it's my duty to inspire those fighting beside me. I'm not going to hide behind a command tent. I can handle this Uncle." He replied as he stepped forward.
Stannis looked at his nephew with disapproval before walking over to Ser Arthur Dayne. "You go instead, Dayne. Don't let him risk himself." Stannis ordered.
"The prince has made his decision and as such I'm duty bound to honor it." Arthur replied. "Don't worry, Lord Stannis. Your nephew knows what he is doing."
Will walked forward as the Meereenese champion got on his horse. His aid rushed over and handed him a spear while Roach slowly walked over to Will who chuckled and pat him on the head. "Its ok, Roach. I don't need you now." He pet Roach on the head who snorted and walked back over to the others. The Meereenese champion cantered back and forth on his horse while William slowly walked forward and unsheathed Storm's Wrath from his waist.
The champion's horse let out a loud whinny and began galloping across the field towards the prince. The Meereenese slavers cheered him on while William just stood there. He took a deep breath before stabbing his sword into the ground. He knelt down and unsheathed his Valryian steel dragonbone dagger from his boot. The champion rode closer and closer as everyone waited to see what happened while the Meereenese continued cheering for their winner. When the champion was about 20 meters away, Will threw his dagger and hit the champion in the shoulder, sending him careening off his horse and falling onto the sand below. The horse rushed past Will as he grabbed his sword and walked forward. The Meereenese champion struggled to get up but managed to get to his knees only for Will to use Storm's Wrath and slice his head off his body in one swing.
Will looked at everyone and chuckled before cleaning his sword of blood and retrieving his dagger. Stannis watched the exchange in surprise and Ser Davos chuckled. "Told you he would be fine." Ser Arthur told him.
The Meereenese weren't exactly happy at what happened and the slavers began shouting curses at the prince before one of them ordered the soldiers to fire an arrow volley at him. William just took a few steps back as their arrows came up short and landed in the sand. "Bow!"
Hercules took William's bow off of Roach's saddle and tossed it to him. Will plucked an arrow from the sand and took aim before releasing, hitting one of the slaver's in the chest. "Nice shot." Tyrion remarked as Will put his bow over his shoulder.
The Slaver's looked at their dead man in disbelief as he was killed from an arrow shot by the Prince from so far away. William looked at all the slavers on the wall, seeing their looks of contempt and anger at him but he could care less about them. He was focused on the slaves he saw there so he decided to give the slavers and masters a warning. He nodded to Grey Worm who signaled the Unsullied to bring up some siege catapults.
"I am William Baratheon of Westeros! Your Masters may have told you lies about me or they may have told you nothing! That doesn't matter because I have nothing to say to them! They are slavers who buy and sell those that they feel are beneath them and then kill them when they are of no further use! They are a disease and a cancer to this world! I have come to Slaver's Bay to free it from that plague! First, I went to Astapor! What once was a city of slaves where young boys were whipped, beaten and castrated, now lies a city of precious gems and trade, no more consumed by its slavery past! The people there, both former slave and freemen alike live in peace and plenty! Then I went to Yunkai and did the same! It has been reborn and like Astapor, it enjoys peace for all its citizens! Your masters don't tell you this because they don't want you to know! They are slavers because it keeps them rich and in control but I have proven them wrong! Two former slave cities are now free and more prosperous than they were before! So, why do they keep their slaves?! TO CONTROL YOU!" William shouted for all of them to hear and Missandei translated for those that didn't understand Valyrian.
"The prince has gotten even better at speeches since I've last seen him." Ser Davos whispered to Cedric.
"He has a way with words and speaks from the heart. He says its easier that way." Cedric replied.
"They want to stay in control! So much so that they sent assassins to kill me! Hired the Golden Company to kill me! They stole and murdered your children and put them on posts to keep me away! But they have failed! I've come to Meereen to do the same I did to Astapor and Yunkai! To make sure no one suffers that fate again! And for those that killed 163 children, the fate that they deserve! Forward!" William shouted and the Unsullied moved the catapults into position. "Release!"
The catapults fired and hurled containers into the city which broke apart when they landed or hit something. Inside said containers were broken collars and chains. "This is the Masters only warning! Surrender yourselves…or suffer the same fate as the other masters of Slaver's Bay!"
Will got on Roach and slowly left the area. Grey Worm had the Unsullied pull back a bit so they were further away from the wall but still in view. They quickly set up camp in the surrounding hills and clearings with the Unsullied Army standing at attention so Meereen was focused on them. They just thought that the Prince was preparing his siege but he was actually in a command tent meeting with Autolycus, Thoros, and Beric Dondarrion about their recon mission.
"We heard you gave quiet a speech. Sorry we missed it." Autolycus joked.
"You didn't miss much. They sent their champion to kill me. He failed and I gave them a warning to give up." Will gave an abbreviated version.
"Think they'll listen?" Thoros wondered, sipping some wine from a cup.
"I doubt the Great Masters of Meereen have any more sense than the masters of Astapor or Yunkai did. They're trapped and biding their time so while they do that we have to act. I trust my distraction let you do your job with ease?" he asked and they nodded.
"It did. The wall surrounding the city is massive and thick. We could climb it like we did with Yunkai. It could be tricky but there might another way…only it's less than ideal." Autolycus pointed to a spot on the map of the city near the bay.
"What is it?" Will asked.
"That is a sewer that leads out to the river. It's brick layered so its sturdy and big enough that men could get through and its closed off with an iron gate which can be lifted. It's just…"
"A sewer." Will finished his thought. "It's fair to say that everyone who will be going through that sewer will get plenty of time to clean and bathe afterward."
"Smell like shit going in and smell like shit coming out." Thoros raised his cup and chuckled.
"Guess the sewer it is." Beric Dondarrion remarked. "We should have the Unsullied at attention so that once we get the gate open then they can march in."
"We'll head inside the city in the early morning in two days. The guards will be just waking up or still asleep that we can make it through." Will suggested and they agreed. "All right, then. Time to infiltrate Meereen.
Line Break xxxxx
Two days later, William and the group going into Meereen through the sewer were getting ready in their camp. They had gotten rest earlier in the day since they would be infiltrating the city in the early morning when it was still dark out. Twilight was an hour away so they needed to get into the city just before then to have the better advantage. By then, most of the city guards and soldiers would just be waking up so it gave them the advantage. Will was dressed in his normal clothes of boots, dark trousers, a light tunic, and his jacket. He slipped on his forearm vambraces before checking that both hidden blades still worked which they did. He sheathed both Valyrian steel daggers in his boots and then put on the light metal greaves on his legs before Missandei helped him strap on his Dō and secure the straps of his chest armor. She made sure to strap it on as tight as possible and then helped him with the shoulder pauldrons. Once his armor was secure, he secured a quiver of 30 arrows onto his back and Missandei made sure it was as tight as can be so it didn't move. After that, Will decided to take Wolf's Fang with him and had that strapped onto his back as well, underneath the quiver.
"Best of luck, your grace." Missandei wished him and handed him his bow.
He smiled back and pulled up his hood. "You should know by now that I'm fond of making my own luck, Missandei." He gave her a wink and walked out of the tent and made his way through the camp.
Ser Arthur sheathed Dawn on his side and tightened a strap on his shoulder pauldron before joining him and Hundred Eyes flanked his other side. They soon joined the other men going into the city which was the usual suspects and were people familiar with this kind of sneaking. Hercules and the others, Thoros, Beric Dondarrion, some Dothraki and Stormlands and Northern Men-at-Arms but coming with them was going to be Grey Worm and several dozen Unsullied who would help gather the slaves in the city to help fight. Stannis, Ser Davos, Garlan Tyrell, Smalljon Umber and Harion Karstark would stay here and lead the Unsullied army into the city when the gate was opened.
"All right. Let's go." Will pulled his facemask up to cover his nose and mouth and they proceeded out of camp. They followed the wall until they came upon the small banks of the Skahazadhan river where the waste from the Meereenese sewers flowed.
"Ah, hell. It had to be a sewer." Autolycus whispered as he covered his nose.
They quickly rushed past the river to the iron gate of the sewer. Hercules lifted the iron gate and they wedged it open before heading in. After lighting torches, they walked through the sewage which was disgusting but kept moving until the sewers led them to the lower levels of Meereen. They stopped at the alleyway entrance to the sewers and looked to see no one around.
"Ok. Time to split up. Everyone knows their jobs so get to it and be careful." Will told them and they nodded. The group split up at that point but with the same objective to head to the main gate. If they went all together as a large group they had a higher chance of being discovered so Hercules would lead one group while Will would lead the other like they did in Yunkai. They would head to the main gate and open it while Grey Worm and the Unsullied headed across the street and down to the lower levels where the slaves were kept to rally them to their side. Partially to fight but they would also provide a nice distraction as well.
Meereen was a city of narrow, twisting alleyways and streets furthest from the center where the great pyramids resided so getting through them took the most time. Even though it was still dark out, the sun would be up soon so they at least had to be out of the streets and to the gate before sun up. There were a few roving guards every now and then but they were few and far between.
They were about halfway to the gate of the city when more and more people started to come out of their houses. They hid in the side alleys while slavers with their slaves came out of their homes and started to occupy the wider main streets. Guess the people of Meereen were early morning people. "Well, this complicates things." Hundred Eyes muttered as they stayed hidden in the shadows that wouldn't remain shadows for much longer.
"What do we do?" One of the men asked.
"We can't start an open fight here. We'll get swarmed and we're too far from the gate." Arthur said.
"You're right. We need that gate open or this is all for nothing and judging by how there's no shouting or fighting, Grey Worm isn't done yet." Will looked up at the roof of the two-story brick building they were hiding behind and knew what he had to do. "Ser Arthur, keep heading to the main gate. I'll draw their attention."
"Again, with you going off on your own. I'm your sworn sword so I should be by your side." Ser Arthur reminded him.
"But you're not as fast as I am and I can't have you lagging behind and getting us caught. I'm faster on my own and with the way this city is laid out, there will be more climbing which you can't do. I'll draw them away and you just keep heading to that gate. That's an order." Will started to climb up the walls to the roof while Ser Arthur shook his head and groaned.
"If you get injured then I'm using that I told you so." Arthur whispered.
"Fine by me." Will climbed up the rooftop and proceeded running west across the rooftops of the buildings. He stopped at the edge and overlooked the busy street down below so he took out an arrow that had a paper pouch wrapped around the shaft near the tip and a fuse. He activated his hidden blade and took out a piece of flint and struck it, igniting the fuse before shooting the arrow up high. It sailed into the air before exploding in a bright display of flashing red colored lights and a loud boom that drew attention from the entire city. The same trick he used when taking Yunkai. Cedric got good at making these colorful distractions and they're beautiful. He even came up with a name for them that Will had shortened. Cedric called them pyro-spectacle but Will felt the word was took long. He liked the name fireworks.
"DEATH TO THE MASTERS!" Will raised his bow into the air for everyone to see and hear. Two guards rushed onto an adjacent building and shot a crossbow bolt at him but missed. He ducked and shot two arrows, hitting them both in the chest. By now, some Meereenese guards and soldiers had arrived in the area and saw him on the rooftop.
"Get him!" One of them shouted so Will led them away on a chase on the rooftops with them chasing after him from the streets.
He kept running and jumped a gap between two buildings but saw that the building he was on was coming up to an open square with no near buildings so he slid on the ground and grabbed the ledge before letting go to ease the impact on his legs. He continued running with the Meereenese guards and soldiers chasing after him as he led them into a marketplace set up around some buildings. He rushed past people, accidently pushing one out of the way and vaulted off a crate to grab onto a beam above him. He turned around and swung forward, kicking one of the guards in the face before jumping to another beam and hooking his legs up on a third beam so the guards running past didn't see him hanging. He waited for them to clear before swinging forward and kicking another guard in the face and continued running. He kicked another guard in the chest and then vaulted over railing before jumping onto a table and spinning around to avoid a spear from a guard. He slipped onto a ledge and then jumped over a guard that tried to slash his legs before kneeing him in the groin and using him as a shield from an archer above so he took the crossbow bolt to the chest. A guard managed to come up behind Will on the ledge and grab his head so he reached his legs up around the guard's head and threw him forward.
He saw more guards coming so he ran and they followed. He ran up an old cart and used it to jump onto some posts dug into the side of a building and jumped from post to post. There was a gap between two that he couldn't jump so he ran on the wall for a few steps to clear the distance and made it. He kept running before jumping forward and grabbing onto a pillar which he proceeded to climb. He pulled himself up to the rafters on the ceiling and used hid behind a beam for cover when an archer tried to shoot him with a crossbow bolt. When the archer went to reload he maneuvered around and pulled the archer from his shooting spot so he fell to the ground. He climbed up and quickly used his bow to shoot the other archer who fell to the ground dead.
He put his bow back on his shoulder and kept running with the guards chasing him. He jumped a gap between two buildings and rolled from the impact before he kept running as the guards on the ground kept pace with him while others had managed to make it to nearby rooftops to shoot at him or help in the chase. A crossbow bolt skimmed the ground in front of him as he vaulted over an obstacle and slid down the side of a building. Archers tried to shoot him but he kept moving and they couldn't get a clean shot. He then jumped forward after sliding down and an arrow skimmed past his side and accidently killed another guard. He kept running before taking a left and then clearing a large gap over an alleyway and managed to make it. The guards chasing him kept pace with some clearing the gap with ease while others barely made it. One guard came up short and slammed his head into the edge of the building. He stopped because he saw guards coming straight at him so he was cut off. That's when he saw the canopy tent set up on the roof and the bundle of rope tied to its post. He grabbed the rope and ran towards the edge of the roof, tackling one of the guards off it. The guard hit the ground below but Will kept ahold of the rope and while it kept him from falling, it did slam him into the side of the building.
"Shit…" He groaned in pain as he the soldiers gathered below him and then saw the guards above him on the roof. He pulled himself up and gave the rope a harsh tug, pulling the canopy post loose a bit. One of the guards was ready to cut the rope when Will gave it another harsh tug and pulled the canopy free. The posts and flaps dragged across the roof, knocking all the soldiers off while Will grabbed onto a ledge before pulling himself up. He took a moment to breathe before he kept running as more guards show up and chase after him.
He ran west and vaulted over a table when he saw some archers cut him off and shoot at him so he jumped down through an open skylight where he barely grabbed onto a ledge to keep himself from falling. "AH!"
He felt the pain radiate in his arms from the sudden drop and catch but he was alive. That's when he saw that the ledge he grabbed onto was actually a third floor railing of a brothel. There were many women having breakfast and looking at him in fear and awe. "Oh…hello." He muttered before pulling himself up and over. Once he had his feet on solid ground he took a moment to himself and breathed from all that running and climbing before giving them a curt nod and running away. (5)
Some guards rushed into the building while more began to surround it from the outside. Several soldiers had arrived on horses for aid and began ordering around the others on what to do. They needed to find that intruder.
"Hey!" A soldier looked up and to see a hooded figure jump from a window. It was Will and he landed on the back of the horse, sinking one of his hidden blades in the soldier's neck before throwing his body off and getting on the saddle. The horse neighed and reared back as he grabbed the reins and ushered him around. "HA!"
He had the horse gallop away and the seven soldiers on the horses followed him. "Stop him!" One of them shouted as the other guards and soldiers followed on foot while trying to get any horses they could.
Will led the soldiers on a chase through the city and began heading north, drawing them away from the gate. He grabbed his bow from his shoulder and took out an arrow, turned and fired, hitting one of the soldiers off his horse. He used the reins to usher the horse on and steer him to the left before taking out another arrow and shooting a soldier coming up on his right. He hit him in the chest and knocked him off his horse. Soon enough the wider streets began to turn into narrow alleyways. He unsheathed a dagger and sliced an awning he rode past to buy him some time but saw more soldiers on horses arrive to cut him off. He quickly stopped his horse and turned it around before ushering it up the stairs that led to the roof of a building.
"Come on!" Will urged the horse on as it managed to climb the stairs with the other soldiers following. He ushered the horse onward and once on the roof, they continued moving. They jumped the gap from one roof to another. Will quickly turned and fired an arrow at a soldier mid-jump so he and the horse fell down below. He saw two soldiers on a rooftop nearby so he quickly shot two arrows and hit them both. The guards and soldiers on the ground saw the intruder riding a horse on top of the buildings so they tried shooting him from the ground with arrows and crossbow bolts. Will had some narrow misses but they hadn't hit him yet.
His horse jumped another large gap and he quickly turned to fire another arrow at soldier giving chase when he saw a red firework shoot up in the sky and go off in the distance outside the main gate. That was the signal that the gate was open and the army was making its way in. Unfortunately, his moment of delight was cut off when an arrow skimmed past his face. He took an arrow from his quiver and fired it at a soldier on the ground, hitting him in the chest when he saw a large rope tied to the edge of a building that went down to a smaller building across the wide street below. He readied himself and stood up on the saddle when the horse was hit in the back with a crossbow bolt, giving him no more time so he jumped. The horse collapsed as he jumped off and used his bow to hook on the rope and slid down. (6)
"OH, SHIT!" He exclaimed, holding on for dear life as he hung precariously on a rope with just his bow while the soldiers on the ground looked in awe and bewilderment at what they were seeing. Once he saw he was nearing the side of the building he let go and dropped down, rolling from the impact, and quickly firing an arrow at a soldier who tried to rush him. Another soldier charged at him with a sword which he deflected with his bow and stabbed him in the side with his hidden blade. A guard slashed him in the back with his sword and Will staggered but his armor took the hit and saved him. He turned and blocked the soldier's next strike before stabbing him in the hand with an arrow, taking his sword and throwing it to the side where it hit another guard the leg. The guard tried to grab him but he stabbed the arrow in his thigh and then hit him in the head with his bow before quickly firing another arrow at an archer up on a roof, knocking him off.
He ducked under a sword swing and threw the soldier to the ground before stabbing him in the neck with his hidden blade and rolled forward for some distance. He got back to his feet, plucked four arrows from his quiver, and turned, firing them one after another and killing four soldiers. He reached back to get another arrow but his quiver was empty. "Shit!" He put his bow back over his shoulder and quickly ducked under an arrow before running away with more soldiers chasing after him. He saw more soldiers coming down the street to cut him off but saw a pulley crane on the side of a building with a large counterweight so he rushed over. He grabbed ahold of the rope and sliced it from the counterweight, pulling him into the air quickly. He let go when he reached the roof but then had to duck and dive forward as two guards tried to kill him. He unsheathed Wolf's Fang and parried a slash before cutting the soldier across the gut and then sliced him across the neck. The other guard lunged but he blocked it and deflected the slash to the side before taking his head off.
That's when he saw the Unsullied marching down the street with the guards either turning tail and running, trying to fight only to get killed or throwing down their weapons and surrendering. He saw Stannis and Ser Davos leading the Unsullied with Hercules and the others knowing what to do as they have done this before. Kill the guards and soldiers who opposed them, kill the slavers, free the slaves, and spare anyone who surrendered. Ser Arthur and Hundred Eyes rode down the street on horses and next to them was Roach. They stopped on the street and looked up at the prince.
"How did things go?!" Ser Arthur asked.
"Fine but we've still got work to do." Will jumped from the roof and landed on Roach's saddle before they continued heading inward to the Great Pyramids where the Great Masters presided. Time that they got what they deserved.
Many of the Great Masters were scrambling out of the pyramids in an attempt to save themselves from the invading army and make it to the harbor to sneak away if they were lucky. One of them as House Loraq, an ancient and old house of the City and another was House Pahl. It's patriarch, Oznak zo Pahl was the leader of the Great Masters and the one who suggested the idea of killing the children to keep the Conqueror away, with the support of the Patriarch of house Loraq. Now their houses were on the brink of collapse because of a damn Westerosi.
"Hurry, fool! We need to get out of here! Bring the horses!" Oznak shouted at his slaves who nodded and put down the large chest of gold down before rushing outside to the stables. The Great Masters and their guards hurried out of their pyramid and moved to the stables. They heard the clatter of hooves so their slaves had done their jobs only the hooves were getting faster and faster.
"Valar Morghulis!" They heard as four arrows flew through the air and killed two guards and two slavers.
Will rode down the street towards them on Roach and took more arrows from the quivers on the saddle and fired arrow after arrow, killing more of the slavers and masters from a closing distance. The guards scrambled to defend as Ser Arthur came from the side and got off his horse, unsheathed Dawn and another sword and began fighting against the soldiers who tried to stop him. Hundred Eyes soon joined him and used a sword to dispatch the soldiers quickly. Roach reared to a stop and kicked Oznak zo Pahl in the face with his hooves before stomping his head in mush as Will fired arrow after arrow in rapid succession and killed the rest of the slavers and great masters present. He got off Roach and pulled three arrows from the saddle quiver and fired them at the three soldiers coming out of the pyramid, killing them all at once.
He refilled his quiver with arrows when he saw some slaves walk over with horses who saw the carnage. They were concerned so Will removed his hood and mask. "It's ok. We're not gonna hurt you." He said in high Valyrian and they nodded. "You're safe now and we need your help. How well do you know the masters of his pyramid?"
"Very well." One of them replied.
"Good because we need you to point out who is a slaver and who is not." Will told them and they nodded. Will, Arthur, and Hundred Eyes headed into the pyramid with the Unsullied arriving a little later. With the help of the slaves, they knew who to kill and who not to but given that everyone in that one pyramid they entered was a horrible monster then it was slim pickings for an innocent one. At the other pyramids it was similar but there were some people spared. Soon enough the city was captured and like Astapor and Yunkai, Meereen was in the hands of William the Conqueror.
He walked out into an balcony of the Great Pyramid after killing another slaver who was responsible for killing the children and looked out into the bay where he saw his ships moving in to secure the Meereenese fleet. Another city was conqueror and soon it would be changed.
Slaver's Bay was his. It would seem to need a new name now.
End of Chapter 10
1). Imagine Will and Hundred Eyes spar like the fight scene from Li Yong and Ah Sam from the Cinemax series Warrior season 1 episode 9. It's an awesome show so check it out if you haven't. It's on HBO Max and we're getting a third season.
2). Gendry's axe/hammer is like the one from Game of Thrones except it has an axe part instead of a spike. So, think Gendry's hammer for the length and handle but Thor's Stormbreaker for the hammer head.
3). Edric's trident/spear is Mera's Trident that Aquaman uses in Justice League and the beginning of Aquaman. The silver colored five pronged one.
4). I'm not a big lemon writer. Some of my stories have had lemons in them in the past but it's not exactly something I'm good at. So, instead I rely on the implied or abbreviated versions of those kinds of situations.
5). Imagine the parkour/chase/fight scene from Prince of Persia in the marketplace and then across the rooftops.
6). Imagine the horse chase in the slums from Robin Hood (2018).
Hoped you guys liked the chapter. Meereen is down and he now controls all of Slaver's Bay. He's got to repair, rebuild, recreate, and reestablish is as something better then it was before. Will it be easy? No, but then again nothing he's done has been. He'll face some new enemies and unfortunately they're starting to adapt like he is. Just means more slavers to kill.
I obviously changed things up a bit with the death of the Loraq family. I always felt that there was something more to Hizdahr and he was playing the long game with Daenerys and then would be revealed as a member of the Sons of the Harpy. Given the look he was given her when she first arrived, I think he made up the thing about his father not being a Great Master and against the killing of those children to gain sympathy and advantage like his character in the books. Again, that's just me but now it's not an issue because he's dead.
Hoped everyone who wanted a lemon was ok with what they got. Again, I'm not a lemon writer so it was something that's sort of a lemon. The pairing isn't Will and Tyene and to be honest, I'm still unsure on the final pairing for the story. It's actually weird to have a story where I don't have a final pairing in mind for the main character but I'll figure it out. He's still young and away from home so he'll have fun, kill slavers, learn, and do what he does best while subtly improving his bedroom skills.
Next time, Will's taken Meereen and now it is his like the other two cities but this one will be the toughest. His enemy adapts and wants nothing more than for him to die so he'll need to get creative in order to succeed. Luckily, he finally discovers the truth about his strange dreams with Orys and learns a part of his Northern heritage has been unlocked. And it comes in handy. Until next time!
