The Journey Begins
The journey has begun and who knows what awaits Red, Blue, and Leaf as they leave Pallet Town. While walking into the forest , they reflect on Professor's Oak's idea of learning about their parents on their journey.
"Hey Red, Leaf, do you think we will find any information on our real family?" Blue asked.
Red and Leaf shrugged.
"I don't know, Blue, I don't know", Red answered.
"Well, I don't want to know", said Blue. "I don't want to know if I am related to …".
"WE GET IT", Red and Leaf shouted at him.
Red took over the conversation.
"Do you all remember how we met?" he asked them.
"Heck yeah", said Blue. "We all came from an orphanage in Saffron City".
"Of course," said Leaf. "I believe we were about five years years when we met".
"Anyone remember the sandbox?", Red asked them.
"Oh yeah," said Blue and Leaf.
It was true. Red, Blue, and Leaf met at a sandbox at the orphanage playground. When they were five years old, Red was building a sand castle and Leaf joined in. They introduced themselves to each other. Suddenly Blue comes over and smashes their castles with his feet. As Blue stood there laughing, Leaf started to cry. Red was furious and jumped at Blue, followed by Leaf. Despite being outnumbered, Blue was able to hold them off. However, Ms. Wiggles, the orphanage director, breaks up the fight and apprends them. She then punishes them by putting them in "solitary confinement", which are several dark lonely closets with a lock. She also had them clean up the kitchen as further punishment for several days. Blue begins to feel bad and tries to apologize but Red and Leaf would not hear of it. After their punishment was over, Blue made up to them by building a larger sand castle. Impressed, Red and Leaf forgive him. Again, an older orphan comes over and stomps on it. Angered, Blue runs to Ms. Wiggles and tells on the orphan. Ms. Wiggles comes over and takes the orphan away. Then the three kids start rebuilding their castle. After a whole week of no fighting, Ms. Wiggles rewarded them with ice cream. Ever since, according to Ms. Wiggles, Red, Blue, and Leaf have been the most behaved children ever since.
"Can you believe we met all because of a sandbox?", said Blue.
The three friends burst out laughing.
"I remember two years later, we got adopted on the same day", said Red. "Didn't think we'd see each other again until we saw each other in Pallet Town".
"And here we are now", said Leaf.
"How old was Ash when you were adopted?", asked Blue.
"Ash was four at the time", said Red.
"Green was four too", said Leaf.
"Hey Blue, whabout Gar…?", started Red.
"Don't you dare finish that question, Red", Blue snapped, interrupting Red.
From his personal experience, Red knows of Blue's and Gary's feud too well and knows it's best to not get involved.
"Blue, you are fourteen years old…", Leaf yelled.
"Leaf, knock it off", Red snapped.
Leaf and Red then glare at each other for a moment.
"When we get to Saffron City," Leaf said. "Let's visit the orphanage. Ms. Wiggles could use a visit from us for what she did".
"Yeah," said Blue, sadly. "Although a nice person, Ms. Wiggles is very scary when someone misbehaves. Hey Red, you have not said anything. What's up?".
"I was thinking about Ms. Wiggles' love and sacrifice for trying to take care of us", said Red. "It really shames me that no one really cared about orphans at the time".
After hearing this, Blue picks up a rock and throws it into a bush ahead of them. Suddenly a purple rat-like creature jumps out in front of them. The rat creature looked at them.
"What is that?" asked Blue.
Red quickly pulls out the Pokedex, or Dexter as he calls it. Red presses the pokemon identify button, which a voice speaks out:
"Rattata, its fangs are long and very sharp. They grow continuously, so it gnaws on hard things to whittle them down".
"That sounds like it's a big biter", said Blue as he pulled out a Pokeball. "Rattata is mine".
Just as Blue was about to throw his ball, Leaf jumped in front of him and held his hand back.
"Hold it, Blue", she protested. "We don't know how to catch Pokemon".
"You can worry about that, Leaf", said Blue. "I have a Pokemon to catch. Watch and learn".
Blue pushed Leaf out of the way and threw the Pokeball at the Rattata and it went in.
"Ha", said Blue, showing off. "I got it".
The Pokeball opened and in a flash, the Rattata came out. The Rattata then fled out of sight. Blue frowned and went to pick up his Pokeball and stared at it for a moment. When he turned around, Red got in his face.
"Ohhhh, that was some catch Blue", Red said, sarcastically. "YOU WASTED THAT POKEBALL FOR NOTHING, YOU IDIOT".
"Oh, right all right, Red, chill out", said Blue. "I say, let's go to Viridian City and find someone who can teach us how to catch a Pokemon. There's bound to be more experienced trainers that are willing to teach us there".
Red and Leaf paused for a moment.
"Blue, you are a genius", said Red.
"I am?", said Blue, stunned. "I mean, of course I am".
"What are we waiting for?" said Leaf. "Let's run to Viridian City right now and while we're at it, we can see what Pokemon are around here and come back later to catch it".
Red, Blue, and Leaf then took off running. They were so excited, they did not notice and accidently ran over a red-haired girl with a ponytail on her left, who was fishing in the river. In the process, they also knocked her bike over in the river, breaking it. The girl was so mad by this, she got up and chased after them, but she could not catch up to them. The girl eventually gave up and cursed at them. They kept running until Red tripped and fell on the ground. Blue and Leaf then fell over him.
Blue and Leaf got off Red and Red got right back onto his feet. As they got up, they saw a large multi-colored, feline-like figure. Red, Blue, and Leaf stare at it. It is definitely a Pokemon but this looked extremely powerful and dangerous. Before Red, Blue, and Leaf can react, the strange Pokemon attacks them but something deflects its attack. It is another Pokemon. It is a pale pink, with large eyes and a long, thin tail that broadens at the end. A battle broke out between this and other Pokemon. Red pulls out his Pokedex to identify the two Pokemon but the Pokedex said:
"No Data, Pokemon may not exist".
As the battle went on, the small pink Pokemon appeared to be winning and managed to drive the larger feline Pokemon away. Before leaving, the small pink Pokemon looked at Red, Blue, and Leaf before flying in the direction of larger pokemon.
As Red, Blue, and Leaf leave, they reflect on what just happened.
"What was that all about?", asked Blue.
"I wish I knew", answered Red. "What do you think, Leaf?"
But Leaf is reading her book called Everything You Need to Know About Pokemon, by Professor Oak. However, the book caught Blue's eye.
"Hey, that's my book, Leaf", Blue said angrily.
Leaf lifts her head up and throws Blue an angry look.
"Blue, knock it off", Red yelled. "Just because you're Professor Oak's grandson doesn't mean you can get anything you want".
Pinned by Red's words, Blue backs down.
"Sorry, Leaf", said Blue quickly. "Continue?".
Leaf turns her attention to her book. After skimming through the pages, she came to a bad conclusion.
"Wow! Dexter's not kidding", she finally said. "The Pokemon may not exist after all. Neither of them are in the book".
"Can you see if there are any myths of these Pokémon ?" Red suggested.
Leaf turned the pages.
"It's a shame that Professor Oak doesn't like myths about Pokemon", Leaf grumbled aloud as she furiously flipped through the pages. "He doesn't bother to include any data and information of mythical Pokemon, just pictures of... Wait, what's this?"
Red and Blue huddled with Leaf to look at the book.
In the book, there was a photograph of the carved unnamed pokemon picture on a wall. There is no information about the Pokémon, just a carving picture except for the picture was taken by a person named Dr. Fuji. Judging by the picture, it matched the appearance of the small pink Pokemon that defended them earlier. Red, Blue, and Leaf lifted their heads and looked at each other with astonishment. There was no doubt that the small pink Pokemon was the same as the one that defended it earlier.
"We need to tell Professor Oak at once when we reach Viridian City", Red said.
Blue and Leaf agreed.
Leaf then puts away her book and the three friends take off walking to Viridian City.
