Chapter 36: Nominees
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Wow soon it will be the second year anniversary of the day I created this story. I cannot believe so much has happened since then and how many fans this story has gotten. Thank you all for your support. This is gonna lead to one of the best movie events in DC Superhero Girls. Around the school, everyone was eager to hear the Hero of the Month announcements because whoever made this would be the last nominee for the upcoming Hero of the Year.
"And now the Hero of the Month is…Zatanna!" Waller said as the magic girl appeared on screen.
"Daughter of the Justice League member Zatara. This spellbinder can wow you whether she's performing on stage or performing heroic deeds." Waller said showing Zatanna appearing on stage.
The video changed to an interview with Batgirl and Supergirl. "Zatanna? She always knows what to say." Batgirl said.
"She's got the magic and the style." Supergirl said.
The video shows Zatanna battling Mysterio in the museum as she fires a magical blast knocking Mysterio into the wall.
Next interview showed Iron Fist. "She is a true wielder of the mystic arts and an excellent comrade." Iron Fist said.
The video showed Iron Fist and Zatanna in class as Doctor Strange was running them through magic duels.
"Remember a magic user's most powerful weapons are their hands and their words." Doctor Strange said.
Taking out her wand Zatanna waves it creating a chant but when it did Doctor Strange was tied up by his own cape causing him to glare him.
"I may have worded that spell wrong." She said nervously as Iron Fist chuckles.
The next interview showed Spider-Man. "Zatanna is an amazing hero but an even more amazing friend." He smiles.
The next scene showed Spider-Man and Zatanna tie up Nightmare and nail him in the face.
Finally, as Zatanna was walking down the hall the camera was pointed right at her.
"Seriously? Me? Wow, thank you all so much for this honor. Srewlof Raeppa." Zatanna said as a bouquet of flowers appeared in her hands.
"Well folks it's been quite a year but for Hero of the Year the nominees are Spider-Man, Bumblebee, Wonder Woman, Katana, Cyborg, Starfire, Iron Fist, Harley Quinn, Hawkgirl, Star Sapphire, Black Panther, Frost, Lady Shiva, Beast Boy, Poison Ivy and Zatanna." Waller said as pictures of each hero appeared on screen. "They are all exceptional heroes but only one can be called Hero of the Year, who will it be?"
"Easy." Tony said turning off the screen. "The Avengers are gonna win this whole thing."
"I don't know Mr. Stark we've got some competition." Jaden said.
Tony looks over to see Jaden, T'Challa, Diana, Danny, Tatsu and Zee sitting in chairs while Steve and Dr. Strange were nearby.
"Please a third of the nominations are you kids." Tony said.
"Can't we just let the fact that so many of us have been nominated be enough?" Steve asks.
"True spirit of competition is participating." Danny said.
"That's loser talk and we are not losers." Tony said.
"Boy you are really into this award." Zee said.
"What better way to let the world know about us if an Avenger wins this? Take it from me kids, winning that trophy is awesome." Tony said.
"You won Hero of the Year?" Tatsu asks.
"Oh no here we go again." Dr. Strange groans.
"Yes I did and I rubbed it in Batman's stupid face when I did." Tony smiles.
"Batman?" T'Challa asks.
"Oh for gods sake do not bring that up. I cannot listen to this again." Doctor Strange groans.
"That annoying showoff. I am the night, I am vengeance, I am Batman." Tony mocks.
"Wow." Jaden said as all the teens immediately regretted listening to this.
"That emo loser didn't show it but I knew I got under his skin the second that trophy went to me." Tony said.
"Why don't you kids get going? Go celebrate." Steve said before patting his daughter on the shoulder. "I'm really proud of you."
"Thanks Dad." Diana smiles as they left to go hangout and leave Tony to his past.
"I can't believe my best friend is nominated for Hero of the Year." Miles said as he and Mary Jane walked over.
"I get the first interview with you guys if you win." Mary Jane smiles.
"Thanks MJ but who knows who might win." Tatsu said.
"My money's on Jaden or Diana." Kitty said walking over.
"I can see that." Danny said.
"So you guys wanna go to Cape and Cowls or maybe Stan's restaurant?" Zee asks.
"Can't Tatsu and I have Belle Reve stakeout with Frost tonight." Jaden said.
"Tell Barbara and Kara we said hi." Tatsu said as they walked down the hall and put on their suits.
"So Jaden after the Hero of the Year ceremony the school goes on break." Tatsu said.
"Yeah it's gonna be nice to go home and relax. I miss my mom, my buddy Harry, maybe I'll pay Mr. Osborne a visit for the heck of it." Jaden said.
"Sounds like fun." Tatsu smiles.
"What are your plans?" Jaden asks.
"I might spend some time here in Metropolis for a while, take a break from warrior training and find a hobby." Tatsu said.
"Well if you ever want to meet up and hangout over break feel free to come visit me." Jaden suggests putting on his Spider-Man mask.
"I'd like that." Tatsu said putting on her mask and grabbing her sword.
In Principal Waller's office, Spider-Man, Katana and Frost were standing in front of her.
"We've intercepted Lashina's plans to break the Female Furies out of Belle Reve. If she succeeds the Female Furies will certainly take revenge on Super Hero High." Waller said.
"Not if we have anything to say about it." Spider-Man said.
"We beat those Furies before and we can do it again." Katana said.
"And with me helping, that's all but assured." Frost said.
"Good luck you three. I expect great things from 3 Hero of the Year Nominees." Waller smiles.
That night at Belle Reve, Spider-Man was sitting down at the top of a tower with Katana and Frost.
"So how does this whole Hero of the Year get picked?" Spider-Man asks.
"The school looks at all your accomplishments and heroic deeds done and they whoever they feel is the most heroic wins the title Hero of the Year." Katana explains.
"Wow, talk about a lot to take in." Spider-Man said.
"We've certainly been busy this year." Katana said.
"No matter the winner we're still friends, right?" Spider-Man asks.
"As long as you don't mind losing." Katana smirks.
"Oh it is on Sword girl." Spider-Man said as Frost walks over.
"Let's go over our strategies again. Remember a successful mission is all about expecting the unexpected." Frost said when they heard a loud rumbling.
"You mean like that?" Spider-Man asks as they looked down to see a portal open and Lashina burst through it in some kind of tank.
"Lashina." Katana growls as Lashina rammed the tank into the wall.
"Female Furies, come out come out wherever you are." Lashina said creating a giant hole in the wall allowing her to run inside.
"This way!" Frost said making an ice ramp for the three of them to slide down and enter the prison.
"Hello supers." Lashina said with her voice on the PA. "Allow me to introduce you to my old friend…uh what's your name?" She asks holding the mic to a tied up prison guard.
"B-B-B-Brian." He said nervously.
"B-B-B-Brian's gonna learn all about the agony matrix. Unless you can find him. You have two minutes. Tick tock." Lashina mocks.
"Oh that is low." Spider-Man said.
"What do we do?" Katana asks.
"I can help." Looking down the hall they saw Big Barda in her cell.
"Big Barda?" Spider-Man said surprised.
"I know how to disable the agony matrix." Big Barda said.
"But you're a Female Fury why would you help us?" Frost asks as they walked over.
"I like Brian, he always gives me extra mashed potatoes." Big Barda smiles. "Look you if don't let me out Lashina will but aside from the only other person in this whole jail who might know how to deactivate the agony matrix is Doc Ock and I don't think he'd be very willing to help."
"Not if he knows I'm here. Slice it open Katana." Spider-Man said as Katana drew her sword sliced the lock freeing Big Barda.
"This way." Big Barda said as they ran down the hall to Brian's office.
"Please help me. I'll give you all the potatoes you want." Brian smiles.
"You got yourself a deal." Big Barda said getting to work.
Up on the security cameras they saw Lashina breaking out Stompa and Mad Harriet.
"The Furies!" Spider-Man gasps.
"We can't let those villians escape. No offense." Katana said looking to Big Barda.
"Katana stay here with Big Barda. Spider-Man, you're with me." Frost said as they ran out.
As Lashina, Stompa and Mad Harriet ran to the tank a web shot out allowing Spider-Man and Frost to swing in front of them.
"Going somewhere ladies?" Spider-Man asks.
"Furies, get back to your cells!" Frost orders.
"What are you doing here? You're supposed to be dealing with Bri-Bri. Girls get them out of my way." Lashina said as Stompa stomped the ground causing it to shake.
"Stompa about to crush spider and blue girl." Stompa said.
"Stompa about to catch a cold!" Frost said firing a gust of cold air before making it shoot up and trap Stompa.
Laughing manically Mad Harriet lunged at them when Spider-Man fired a web trapping her against the wall.
"Sorry Mad Harriet this isn't Wonderland. Here being mad gets you behind bars." Spider-Man said.
"Fine I'll deal with you myself." Lashina said flicking her whip as it wrapped around Frost's arm.
Before she could do anything electricity ran along the whip causing Frost to scream in pain as she dropped to the ground.
"Frost!" Spider-Man gasps as Lashina flicked her whip at him forcing Spider-Man to jump and dodge her attacks. "Come on Lashina haven't you ever heard Devo? Whip it, whip it good."
Lashina flicks her whip but Spider-Man fires a web at her leg causing her to trip and fall.
Lashina struggles to get her whip when Spider-Man grabs her arm. "You think you're tough Spider-Man but I wonder what kind of man you are under that mask." Lashina said knocking Spider-Man to the ground before she pinned him down causing Spider-Man to look up at the Fury with the whip in her hand. "Now what did you say earlier? Whip it good?" She smirks.
"Just my luck I get a villain who actually listens." Spider-Man said as Katana, Big Barda and Brian ran towards them.
When Katana saw Lashina on top of Spider-Man she couldn't help but growl thinking she was coming onto him.
"Hands and whip to yourself!" Katana said as Lashina looks to see Katana swing her sword.
Moving quickly Lashina jumps off Spider-Man and into her tank allowing Lashina to escape.
"Ugh." Frost groans as she and Spider-Man sat up.
"You guys okay?" Big Barda asks.
"Yeah thanks for the help." Spider-Man said.
As Frost, Katana and Brian took Mad Harriet and Stompa back to their cells Spider-Man walked Big Barda back to hers, but when they arrived he saw a Super Hero High brochure on her bed.
"How did that get here?" Spider-Man asks as Big Barda picked it up.
"Uh I kinda took it during the whole attack the school thing." Big Barda admits.
"Do you want to be hero?" Spider-Man asks surprising her.
"What? I mean maybe." She admits.
"Big Barda, today you really stepped up and helped us. If you ever have thoughts of changing sides that's up to you. With great power comes great responsibility." Spider-Man said leaving.
"Great Power comes great responsibility…I like that." Big Barda smiles.
In Waller's office, Jaden was telling Waller about the battle at Belle Reve.
"If it wasn't for Big Barda I don't know if we would have been able to stop them." Jaden said.
"She turned against her own Furies to save a civilian?" Waller asks surprised.
"Pretty much." Jaden nods.
"Hmm thanks you Jaden, that will be all." Waller said as Jaden walks out. Turning to her computer Waller typed on it. "I bet if Big Barda was given a second chance she would make a great hero."
Walking back to his room Jaden laid down on his bed exhausted.
"Ugh what a day." Jaden groans when his phone rang. "Who could be calling at this time?" Reaching to his phone he saw his mom was calling. "Hi mom."
"Hi Jaden, how's my favorite IT boy?" Maya asks.
"I'm doing good, it's a surprise to hear you call this late." Jaden said.
"I know, I know but I heard about the whole Hero of the Year competition coming up and I got excited." Maya said.
"Yeah things at the school are gonna be pretty exciting." Jaden said.
"So many amazing heroes this year." Maya said.
"It's pretty cool mom. The whole school is gonna be busy preparing for it." Jaden said.
"Well I wanted to tell you I got a pass." Maya said causing his eyes to widen.
"Uh what?" Jaden asks.
"Since all the publicity will be on the heroes, I got a pass to come to Super Hero High for the Hero of the Year so we can spend the day together. You can even show me around." Maya said.
"That's great mom. I can't wait to see you." Jaden said with a look of horror on his face.
"I knew you'd excited. See you soon Jaden. Love you." Maya said hanging up.
Almost immediately Jaden falls back with his head banging against the pillow.
"Ugh what am I gonna do?" Jaden groans now dreading the day Hero of the Year happens.
