Chapter 41: Underworld Showdown
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Sorry about the wait. I wanted to get this out a few days ago but was busy. Two years ago Stan Lee passed away but his legacy is far from forgotten as his work continues to bring joy to Marvel fans from beyond the grave. I hope you like what I have planned. We find ourselves in Belle Reve, as we look into one cell of Mysterio.
"Stupid heroes. If I ever get my hands on you again I'll destroy you. Spider-Man, Zatanna, all heroes." Mysterio growls.
"Is that right?" A demonic voice said getting his attention.
"Who's there?" Mysterio asks.
"I can give you the power you seek, the power for revenge but you'll only have this power for a short amount of time." The voice said.
"I don't care. Just grant me power beyond magical comprehension." Mysterio declares.
"Very well…you have 2 hours." The voice said when suddenly a ring of fire appeared around Mysterio and red energy surrounded him causing Mysterio to scream.
Outside his cell the guards looked in shock as Mysterio held out his hands and a powerful fire attack blasted through the wall destroying it.
"This power…I feel incredible!" Mysterio said as a red S mark appeared on his helmet.
Meanwhile in town, Spider-Woman was swinging through the air chasing after a getaway van with the police right behind her.
As the criminals tried to shoot them out of the sky Spider-Woman leaps in and fires a web causing the van to stop and the criminals to almost fly out.
"Geez don't you know seatbelts save lives?" Spider-Woman asks as one recovers and fires bullets at her. "Whoa!" Spider-Woman said leaping out of the way and dodging the fire.
Turning her arm into a mace she charges in and knocks the man to the ground.
She was about to move in when her spider sense activated. "What the?"
Before she could respond to it one crook grabbed her from behind. "Hey let me go!"
He was about to attack when suddenly something hit him in the back of the neck causing him to fall to the ground.
"That is no way to treat a woman." Spider-Woman turns to see Spider-Man fire webs tying up all the criminals.
"Hey I had these guys." Spider-Woman said.
"Sure you did. I just took them out for you." Spider-Man said.
"Because they were focused on me." Spider-Woman said.
"Which I exploited to help save the day." Spider-Man said causing Spider-Woman to shake her head as the police arrived.
"All yours officers." Spider-Woman said as they swung away.
"Amazing how many heroes are coming out into the spotlight." A cop said.
Up on a roof, Jaden and Mary Jane were sitting down with their masks off.
"I gotta get used to this spider sense thing or I'm in trouble." She said.
"Yeah when you feel it you just have to trust it." Jaden said handing her some water.
"Being a hero and a reporter on heroes? How am I gonna pulls this off?" MJ asks taking a sip.
"You'll figure it out MJ. Being a reporter is something you've always wanted and you shouldn't have to give it up." Jaden said.
"Thanks Jaden. You know if someone told me that when we first met as little kids we'd be superheroes I'd say they were crazy. Now look at us." MJ smiles.
"Life is funny MJ." Jaden said as they stood up.
"Yeah it is. Any chance I can convince you to come with me to see Lois?" MJ asks.
"Can't wanna do one last thing before break ends." Jaden said.
"Works for me." MJ said about to walk away when she trips on a loose brick. "Whoa!"
"MJ!" Moving in Jaden grabs her arm catching her as her body was dangling from the roof.
Looking up MJ saw Jaden's calm and caring face as he helps her up.
"Whoa where did that come from? You okay?" Jaden asks.
"Uh yeah…I'm great." MJ said as a soft blush appeared on her face. "Uh thanks for the save Tiger."
"Anytime." Jaden said before putting on his mask and swinging off.
"Can't believe that's the same Jaden I grew up with." Mary Jane sighs before putting on her mask and swinging in a different direction.
At a theater, Zee was backstage preparing for her show and putting on her top hat.
"Alright last show before school…I really hope she shows up." She said when she heard a knock at the door. "Come in."
"Special delivery from one of your biggest fans." Jaden said opening the door revealing a few flowers causing her to smile.
"Jaden!" Zee smiles as she hugs him tightly. "You really came? I thought you weren't into magic."
"I'm not but I'm really into the amazing magician." Jaden teases causing her to giggle.
"Aw that's so sweet." Zee said taking the flowers and kissing him on the cheek. "Actually since you're here I was wondering if you could help me. For my final trick I need a volunteer."
"You sure you want me and not someone else?" Jaden asks.
"No way." Zee shook her head.
"Alright, for you I'll do it." Jaden said.
"Well you better got find a seat before the show starts." Zee said.
"Break a leg or is that just theater?" Jaden asks causing her to smile.
"Doesn't matter, thank you." Zee said.
Little did they know Mysterio spotted the poster for Zatanna's show and flames engulfed his hands as he burned it down.
As the show began, Zatanna was dazzling everyone with her magic tricks.
In the audience, Jaden looked up at her and smiles.
'I never understood why Zee did these shows at first, but I can see it. She does these to make people happy she loves magic and wants to share it with people. That girl is something else.' Jaden thought.
As three boxes laid on the stage Zee opens them to see her assistant was in those boxes.
"Well it appears my assistant needs some help putting himself back together." Zatanna said as she picks up the boxes and stacks them on top of each other before taking out her wand and waving it.
When she opens the face box we end up seeing the assistant's feet instead. "Oops." Zatanna said as the other boxes opened to see she put him back together but he was walking out on his hands before getting up causing the audience to cheer.
"Thank you, you've all been an amazing audience now for my final trick I'll need a volunteer." Zatanna said as everyone raised their hands.
Jaden chuckles knowing full well what was about to happen as she walks around and spots him.
"How about you?" Zatanna asks pointing at him.
Smiling Jaden stood up and walks to the stage.
"Now can we get your name?" Zatanna asks.
"Jaden." He smirks.
"Well Jaden for my final trick—" Before Zatanna could finish an explosion went off startling everyone.
"Not bad, but this magic is mediocre compared to the Great Mysterio!" Mysterio said emerging from the smoke.
"You again?" Zatanna glares getting in front of Jaden.
"Yes, I'm back Zatanna and I'm here for revenge." Mysterio said as flames shot out of his hands surprising her as he fired his attack at him.
"Lookout!" Jaden yells as he tackles Zatanna out of the way as the fire hits the stage destroying props causing the audience to scream and run out.
Backstage, Jaden looks to Zatanna as he helped her up.
"My hero." Zatanna smiles.
"When hid Chrome Dome get a powerboost?" Jaden asks.
"I don't know but we need to move fast. I'll get his attention you suit up and join me, that'll give everyone a chance to get out." Zatanna said.
"Right." Jaden said running off to change.
Looking at him Zatanna smiles.
"Even when he isn't a hero, that boy still saves me." She said adjusting her hat before readying her wand.
On stage, Mysterio released tons of attacks destroying the stage when suddenly a beam of magic hit him making him fall back.
"I don't know how you broke out Mysterio but I'm sending you back." Zatanna said.
"Fat chance." Mysterio said unleashing flames.
"Hsiugnitxe eht semalf!" Zatanna said as water came out of her wand but only some were put out and the rest knocked Zatanna back.
"Your weak magic is no match for my new strength." Mysterio said when suddenly a web flew in and tied him up.
"Geez dude you couldn't wait until the show was over to ruin things?" Looking up Mysterio saw Spider-Man swing in and double kick him in the chest knocking him to the ground.
"Hope I'm not too late for the rematch." Spider-Man said turning to Zatanna who got up.
"Right on time." Zatanna said.
"Spider-Man, you saved me some time hunting you down." Mysterio said.
"Good thing I was in the area. Now what do you say you save the fire juggling for the luau and head back to jail?" Spider-Man asks.
"Never!" Mysterio said unleashing a torrent of fire making both heroes leap out of the way.
"We gotta stop him or he'll burn the whole theater to the ground!" Zatanna said.
Nodding the two heroes run in unaware the clock was slowly moving to the top.
Firing webs and magical chains the two tie up Mysterio trapping him in place.
"Nowhere to run now!" Spider-Man said when the upper hand hit the 12.
"Times up." A voice said.
Suddenly a dark portal opened up under Mysterio.
"What the?" Zatanna gasps.
"He's getting away! Pull!" Spider-Man said as both of them pulled with all their might trying to yank him free but in the end were pulled in with Mysterio through the portal.
Meanwhile down in the underworld, a large red demon creature with 6 yellow eyes, horns a leather biker look was standing across from a teenage girl with black hair with red tips, a jewel in the middle of her forehead black cloak, black outfit and various jewels. This was Trigon and his daughter Raven.
"Come on Raven, one more time." Trigon said causing her to groan annoyed.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos." Raven said as dark energy flowed into her hands and she blasts the rock dummies but missed one.
"You missed one." Trigon said.
"Uhh…because that one is a friend." Raven said trying to lessen the blow.
"You don't have friends." Trigon said destroying the rock dummy with one finger. "We have only our enemies and our servants."
"But dad, servants are boring and the people you possess are such weirdoes." Raven said when a portal opened in the distance.
"Ah excellent my newest servant is here." Trigon grins.
"What did this one want?" Raven asks rolling her eyes.
"Revenge. Hope he accomplished it in the time I gave him." Trigon smirks before nudging Raven for her to go look.
"Ugh fine." Raven groans walking away.
"You'll learn sooner or later." Trigon said as Raven turned a corner.
"What if I don't want to learn? All he wants to teach me is how to use magic. I hate magic." Raven growls when she arrives to see Mysterio on the ground with Spider-Man and Zatanna laying nearby.
"Whoa, I thought he said only one. Hmm never seen a demon like this before." Raven said poking Spider-Man when she noticed the bottom of his mask.
Curiosity getting the better of her she pulled it up a little and saw the bottom half of Jaden's face when he groans startling her.
"Ugh what happened?" Spider-Man asks looking up to see Raven nearby taking a fighting stance.
"Who are you? Address me at once servant!" Raven said.
"Servant? I'm no one's servant." Spider-Man said standing up. "I'm your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man."
"Wait what? So you're not my dad's newest servant?" Raven asks confused lowering her guard.
"I think Mr. Chrome Dome is who you're looking for." Spider-Man said as he looks over to see Zatanna waking up. "Zatanna."
"What happened?" Zatanna said looking around and groans. "Ugh great. We ended up here."
"Where exactly is here?" Spider-Man asks.
"This would be the Underworld. My home." Raven said.
"Wait? Does that mean I'm dead?" Spider-Man said looking to Raven. "Well you're definitely an improvement over meeting the Grim Reaper."
"Good to know…I guess." Raven said not used to this attitude.
"Relax, we're not dead, not yet at least." Zatanna said.
"So what's going on?" Spider-Man asks.
"Well I'm guessing my dad struck a deal with that fellow over there for being his servant in exchange for powers. But knowing my dad, he probably gave him a really short time limit and you guys were with him when time ended so you got pulled her with him." Raven said.
"Great, so just how I wanted to spend my last day before school." Spider-Man groans.
"School?" Raven asks interested.
"Yeah we go to Super Hero High in order to hone our skills and become heroes." Zatanna said.
"We also get to hang out with other heroes and make tons of friends." Spider-Man said getting her attention.
"Friends huh?" Raven said as none of them noticed Mysterio slowly get up.
Groaning he saw Spider-Man and Zatanna totally distracted.
He was about to attack when suddenly Spider-Man's Spider Sense went off.
"Look out!" Spider-Man said as they leaped out of the way dodging the fire attacks.
"He's awake." Raven gasps.
"Uh oh Chrome Dome is up and at them." Spider-Man said as Mysterio attacked them.
Acting quickly Spider-Man fired a web and swung out of the way while Zatanna created a barrier to block the attacks.
"Whoa." Raven said startled seeing her first hero vs villain fight.
"Geez Mysterio can't you take a chill pill?" Spider-Man asks dodging him and the fire coming at him.
"When you two are dead at my feet!" Mysterio said.
"Dnib sih sgel!" Zatanna said as rocks formed around Mysterio trapping him.
Growling flames erupted out of Mysterio breaking free before he unleashed a powerful torrent that flew towards Raven.
"Look out!" Swinging in Spider-Man grabbed Raven and pulling her to safety.
"You saved me? Why?" Raven asks.
"What do you mean? Helping people is what heroes do." Spider-Man said.
"Heroes?" Raven said Zatanna fell back towards them.
"Time to finish you off!" Mysterio said pouring everything into a huge sphere of red energy.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Raven said holding out her hands and a barrier appeared around them protecting them from the attack.
"Whoa." Spider-Man said in awe.
"How dare you ruin my victory." Mysterio said.
"Don't mess with me." Raven said as darkness surrounded her hands.
"Ah yeah another hero joins the ranks." Spider-Man said.
"I'm not a hero, heroes help people." Raven said.
"You're helping us right now, aren't you?" Spider-Man asks.
Raven pauses before Zatanna puts a hand on her shoulder. "You can't shake him. He always knows what to say."
Smiling for the first time in a long time Raven turns to Mysterio.
"So does being a hero also mean you can knock clowns like this around?" Raven asks.
"All the time." Zatanna grins.
"Welcome aboard Raven." Spider-Man said as the three heroes raced in.
Opening his cloak fiery bats flew at them.
"Hsiugnitxe meht!" Zee said as fire extinguisher blasted the bats putting them out.
"Geez Mysterio anyone ever tell you that if you keep all this anger bottled up you'll explode?" Spider-Man asks swinging in.
Mysterio releases multiple fireballs but Spider-Man leaps out of the way and kicks him in the helmet making him stagger back.
Using this opening Spider-Man fires multiple webs tying him up.
"All yours ladies!" Spider-Man said.
Moving in Zatanna blasts Mysterio sending him flying backwards.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos!" Raven said creating a giant fist and slams it down on Mysterio hard.
"Whoa, remind me not to get on your bad side." Spider-Man said as she brings the fist down on Mysterio again and again until Mysterio was knocked out.
"Okay that's enough." Zatanna said a little worried.
"Raven take it easy! It's over!" Spider-Man said grabbing Raven's arm snapping her out of it.
"Huh? Sorry, guess I lost a little control back there." Raven said.
"Clearly. You okay?" Spider-Man asks.
"I'll be fine." Raven said brushing it off as Zatanna walked over to Mysterio.
"Well that solves our villain problem but how are we gonna get home?" Zatanna asks.
"I know someone powerful enough to get you back, but I don't know if he will." Raven said.
Soon they were hiding behind some rocks looking up at Trigon who was waiting for Raven to come back.
"That's you dad?" Spider-Man said in shock.
"Trigon?" Zatanna said in fear.
"Yep and the most powerful demon in the underworld. If you wanna get back to Metropolis he's your guy." Raven said.
"Something tells me your dad isn't just gonna do that for us." Spider-Man assumed.
"Not a chance." Raven shook her head as Spider-Man pauses to think.
"Wait you said your dad is teaching you magic? So what if he made us a way back without even knowing?" Spider-Man asks confusing her.
"Say what?" Raven asks.
"What do you have in mind?" Zatanna asks as Spider-Man leans in and whispers.
A few minutes Spider-Man and Zatanna hid from view as Raven dragged Mysterio towards Trigon.
"I hope this plan of yours works." Raven mutters.
"Yeah me too." Spider-Man said as Raven walked out to greet her father.
"Uh hey dad. Got your new servant right here." Raven said holding up an unconscious Mysterio.
"Why is he not awake?" Trigon asks.
"Well he didn't like the idea of taking orders so I uh…taught him a lesson." Raven said hoping he would buy it.
Trigon pauses for a few seconds causing Spider-Man and Zatanna to gulp in fear before he burst into laughter.
"That's my girl!" Trigon smiles patting Raven hard on the back multiple times.
"Yeah no problem." Raven gulps.
"He won't be needing this anymore." Trigon held out his hand and the flaming S was removed from Mysterio's helmet and he hit the ground hard. "Mmm couldn't even handle such a small amount."
"So Dad, how exactly do I make a portal out of here? I might want my own servant." Raven said.
"Oh Raven you have much to learn to make a portal. Azarath Metrion Zinthos." Trigon said creating a portal to Metropolis. "You have ways to go before you can make one of those. Now I'll be right back and we'll finish your lesson." Trigon said walking away.
Coming out of hiding, Spider-Man and Zatanna saw Raven gesturing for them.
"Come on, go, go, go before he comes back." Raven said as Zatanna tossed Mysterio through the portal and followed him.
"Thanks for all your help, Raven." Spider-Man said.
"Yeah I'll admit, I never thought I would get to be a hero." Raven said.
"You were pretty good at it. Ever consider coming to Super Hero High? You could learn a lot." Spider-Man asks.
"No way, my dad would never approve of me using his powers for good." Raven said.
"But that's the thing, they're not your dad's powers, they're your powers. You choose what you want to do with them." Spider-Man said pointing at her.
"I choose?" Raven said.
"Let me tell you something my father once told me, with great power comes great responsibility. I can't force you to be a hero, but if you ever want someone to talk to, here." Spider-Man said giving her a piece of paper.
"What's this?" Raven asks taking it.
"In case you ever get bored all by yourself. Might help to have a friend." Spider-Man said leaving through the portal.
"Raven!" Acting quickly Raven hid the paper as Trigon walks in. "What happened with my newest servant?"
"Uh…he must've gotten away when I had my back turned. Sorry dad." Raven said faking innocence.
"Ugh you just can't find good servants anymore. At least I took my powers back from him." Trigon groans walking away.
Turning around Raven opens the paper and sees an email address on it. "Let's talk soon." It read.
"Wow, I actually have a friend, a real friend." Raven smiles.
After dropping Mysterio back off at prison, Jaden and Zee dropped down on the couch at Zee's place exhausted.
"You would think we'd get to relax during a school break." Zee said.
"We can, but the bad guys don't and now our break is over and tomorrow we have to get all our things and go back to school." Jaden groans removing his mask.
"Oh yeah school starts soon." Zee realized taking off her hat.
"Hey you think we'll see Raven again?" Jaden asks.
"Maybe assuming she ever decides to leave the Underworld. She'd make a good hero." Zee said.
'Well until then I guess she'll just be a penpal.' Jaden thought before looking to her. "Sorry your show got ruined."
"I'll have another show someday. At least you and I were able to save the day." Zee said.
"What was that big finale you were gonna do anyway?" Jaden asks.
"Well I was gonna have us step inside a magic box together as swords flew in and pierced it, but in truth I was just gonna use my magic to deal with the swords and we would just make out the whole time." Zee smiles.
"I like the sound of that trick." Jaden grins as Zee sat up.
"But since we don't have an audience what do you say you and I end the day with some real magic?" Zee said seductively.
"I'm listening." Jaden said when Zee pushes him down onto the couch.
"School starts soon and we've had a long day. You and I need to unwind don't you think Jaden?" Zee said kissing him on the lips which Jaden happily returns.
"Gotta say Zee I'm liking this side of you." Jaden said.
"Trust me Spidey you haven't seen anything yet." Zee said.

As school break came to an end Jaden certainly enjoyed it to the fullest, new friends, new enemies and lots and lots of fun with his girlfriends both new and current.
