Chapter 42: Last Laugh
Hey everyone I'm back wth a new chapter and I gotta say this one made me so happy to write. Not only have I brought in quite a few new characters I also made hands down one my favorite fights and you are gonna love what happens. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
At LexCorp, Lex Luthor was looking at his computer as he saw multiple articles about Super Hero High.
"Hmm these heroes are becoming quite a nuisance. First, it's small level crooks but if they keep growing they could even prove to be a thorn in my side one day." Lex said before pausing to think. "I have my hands full enough as it is with Superman, but…maybe someone else would like to play with these kids." Lex grins taking out his phone.
In the city of Gotham, a single light shines on a ringing phone when a gloved hand picks it up.
"Hello?" A male voice asks. "Ooh a party? And you want me to be the entertainment? I'd love to. Now how much will you pay me? Hmm…you sure know how to convince a man." Hanging up the phone, the man steps out of the shadows.
He was wearing a purple jacket, had green hair, a white face and an insane look in his eyes. "Get ready Superhero High because the Joker is about to turn this school upside down!" He laughs manically.
At Super Hero High, all the heroes were returning from break some familiar and some were new, including a certain popstar turned hero.
As Dazzler was walking down the halls, quite a few heroes were whispering about her.
"I can't believe a real popstar is going to our school." Cheetah said.
"I wonder if she does autographs?" Beastboy asks.
"I've listened to her song Hero Too a million times." Bumblebee said.
"It's really catchy." Poison Ivy nods.
Walking to her locker, Dazzler opens it only to see Shadowcat walk up to her.
"Hey you doing okay?" Shadowcat asks.
"Sorry just been a while since I've gone to school. Is everyone staring at me?" Dazzler asks.
"Pretty much. You're famous." Shadowcat said.
"Still I hope I'll be able to find real friends here and not just people who wanna hang out because I'm a star." Dazzler said.
"Well you have me and Spider-Man so that's two right there." Shadowcat points out causing her to smile.
"Thanks Kitty." Dazzler said.
"No problem just remember you're a hero now so when the costumes are on we go by hero names not real ones." Shadowcat reminds.
"Right got it." Dazzler nods.
Nearby, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Ms. Marvel walked up to each other.
"Hey girls!" Harley smiles.
"Harley good to see you." Ms. Marvel said.
"Up high!" Harley said as Ms. Marvel made her hand double in size before they high fived.
"How was your break?" Poison Ivy asks.
"Oh you know had a little fun here a little fun there." Harley said.
"How about you guys?" Ms. Marvel asks.
"Well recently my daises came into bloom so I thought I would bring you a little something." Poison Ivy reaches behind her back and reveals a potted plant but it had a squirrel eating the flowers.
"Awww. He's so cute." Harley said when Ivy jumped startled.
"My plants!" Ivy said as the squirrel leaps off and ran down the hall.
Watching it they saw the squirrel ran onto someone's shoulder.
"Oh Mr. Nibbles what have I said about your snacking?" Turning around they saw a teenage girl dressed in brown a green suit with a large squirrel tail. (Google Ultimate Spider-Man Squirrel Girl)
"Whoa aren't you a big rodent." Harley said as she walks over.
"Sorry about your flower. Mr. Nibbles is a sucker for daisies. Apologize." She orders as the squirrel chatters saying he was sorry.
"You must be new." Ms. Marvel said.
"I heard Principal Waller had found a few new students to join over break. You must be one of them." Poison Ivy said.
"That's me, the name's Squirrel Girl." She smiles.
"Squirrel Girl?" Ms. Marvel asks.
"Hey never underestimate squirrels we can do quite a few amazing things." Squirrel Girl said.
"You're nuts…I like you." Harley smiles.
At the front of the school, one student was looking lost. She had long blonde hair, a blue mask over her face, a blue supersuit with white stars on it, and a golden staff strapped to her back.
"Oh man, this place is weird." She said looking around to see all the heroes. "All these students and I'm one of them."
"Uh excuse me, Stargirl?" Looking ahead she saw Spider-Woman walk in.
"Uh yep that's me. Uh Stargirl." She said shaking her hand.
"Spider-Woman. First time in Metropolis?" Spider-Woman asks.
"No I lived her once when I was little before I moved away. I'm really hoping I can see some old friends now that I'm back here." Stargirl said.
"Oh really?" Spider-Woman asks.
"Yeah I hope they still remember me. It was a while ago that my mom and I moved to Blue Valley." She said causing Spider-Woman to pause.
"Wait a minute…Courtney. Courtney Whitmore?" Spider-Woman asks.
"How do you know my name?" Stargirl asks as Spider-Woman took off her mask.
"Reporter's instincts." MJ smiles causing her to gasp.
"Mary Jane Watson?!" Stargirl smiles taking off her mask to reveal her face. "What are you doing here? You don't have powers."
"Neither did you when we were kids." MJ smirks.
"Touche. Lot has happened to both of us since were neighbors." Courtney smiles.
"Clearly. It's great to see you again." MJ said.
"You too, hey how's Jaden? What's he been up to?" Courtney asks.
"Oh Courtney you are gonna lose your mind." MJ said wrapping her arm around her childhood friend and led her deeper into the school.
Behind them one last new student walked in. He was a teenage boy with a black mask, a black super suit with a bluebird symbol across his chest.
'Okay Batman let's see what's so amazing about this place.' He thought making his way inside.
Little did they know a catering van pulled up in the back of the school.
In the gym, Jaden laughs as he and Courtney hug.
"I can't believe it." Jaden smiles.
"You? Jaden Cooper?" Courtney smile.
"I know. And you're?" Jaden asks.
"I know!" Courtney smiles.
"Hey guys who is this girl?" Miles asks.
"Yeah you gonna keep us in the dark or what?" Kitty asks.
"Miles, Kitty this is Courtney Whitmore. She used to live in the same neighborhood as me and Jaden." MJ introduced.
"I can't believe you're a hero now." Jaden said.
"Same. How did this happen?" Courtney asks.
"Long story, what about you?" Jaden asks.
"Long story. How about we talk after class?" Courtney asks.
"Sounds like a plan." MJ said when Wildcat walks in.
"Okay class I'm gonna wrap start class with a friendly little spar. Spider-Man you're up." Wildcat said.
"Wish me luck." Jaden said putting on his mask. "Alright who am I gonna face?" Spider-Man asks.
"Let's see uh…" Wildcat said looking at his list.
"I'll face him." Looking up he saw the boy in black walk in.
"What's your name?" Wildcat asks.
"The name is Nightwing."
"Well Nightwing step on up." Wildcat said as Nightwing stood across from Spider-Man.
"Nice to meet ya, I don't think we've met." Spider-Man said.
"I've heard a lot about you Spider-Man." Nightwing said taking out two tonfas. "Let's see how good you really are."
"Bring it." Spider-Man said taking a fighting stance.
"Go!" Wildcat said as they match began.
Meanwhile in the student rec room, Flash looked to see a large box placed on a table.
"Hmm what's this?" Flash asks reading the tag.
"To all the heroes of Super Hero High a little treat." Flash read as he opened the box to reveal a cake. "Wow I wonder who sent us this?"
"I might have an idea." A voice said.
"Huh? Who said that?" Flash said when fire extinguisher flew out of the cake and whacks Flash.
"Whoo! That was an entrance!" Joker smiles coming out of the cake when Batgirl sees this and gasps.
"Joker!" Batgirl said as Joker noticed her.
"Oh god are you some kind of Batman fan?" Joker asks.
"The name is Batgirl." She said.
"Oh really? Here catch!" Joker said tossing Flash to her but Batgirl caught him allowing Joker to leap in forcing Batgirl to dodge.
"Rookies. So predictable." Joker said when Batgirl grabs his arm. "What do you think you're doing?"
"I'm taking you in." Batgirl glares causing Joker to laugh.
"Get real girly." Joker said before punching Batgirl in the gut before lifting her up and tossing her into the snack table knocking her to the ground. "I spent years fighting Batman and his Robins. I know all their moves."
"Maybe but you've never faced anything like me." Batgirl said getting up.
"You? What's to know? You're a brat. A sad little girl trying to impress Batman." Joker mocks when Batgirl fires a grapple gun that flies past Joker. "Missed me."
"Did I?" Clicking it Batgirl flies in and kicks Joker in the face making him stagger back.
"Oh you wanna go brat?" Joker asks as Batgirl threw her bataraangs at him but Joker flips over the table to dodge them.
Leaping in Batgirl was about to deliver a kick when Joker takes out a joy buzzer and grabs her legs zapping Batgirl causing her to fall to the ground hard.
"Just what I need another dumb bat in my life." Joker groans as he pulls out a gun and aims it at Batgirl. "Hmm I could shoot her kill her instantly or maybe I can just shoot her in the legs."
"Back off!" Turning around Joker saw Harley swinging her mallet forcing Joker to leap back.
"Embiggen!" Looking up he saw Ms. Marvel with her giant fists dive in.
He was about to dodge when two starbolts smash into him allowing the two attacks to hit knocking him to the ground.
"Whoo I forgot how fun high school was." Joker said as he saw Harley, Ms. Marvel and Starfire glare him down.
"I suggest you leave now." Starfire warns.
"Aww but the party was just getting good." Joker pouts.
"Too bad bub. There ain't nothing you can do about it." Harley glares.
"Oh really? Hmm I guess you're right. Guess I'm just smelling the roses at this point." Joker said pressing his flower causing it to spray a knockout gas that caused Harley, Ms. Marvel and Starfire to pass out.
"As fun as this is, I guess I must be going." Joker said tossing a vial of his Joker venom into the vents before grabbing the 5 heroes. "I bet I could make quite a few mini mes out of you 5."
As the laughing gas spread throughout the school the students, staff and everyone else to become immobilized by their nonstop laughter.
In the gym, Spider-Man and Nightwing were panting heavily when suddenly Spider-Man's spider-sense went off.
"Wait stop!" Spider-Man said as Nightwing stopped mid-attack.
"What? Don't tell me you're done." Nightwing said.
"Something's wrong." Spider-Man said when from the vents the laughing gas flew in.
As the other students looked up Stargirl suddenly started to laugh manically and soon all the other students joined in the laughter.
"What the?" Spider-Man said confused.
"Look out!" Nightwing said as he yanked Spider-Man out of the way.
Throwing his tonfas Nightwing broke the window allowing them to leap out.
Rolling onto the grass, the two heroes could hear the laughter echoing throughout the school.
"What is going on?" Spider-Man asks.
"There's only one person in the entire world who uses this." Nightwing narrows his eyes.
Running to the IT room, Nightwing was typing furiously as they saw Joker come out of the cake and get all the students before knocking out Batgirl, Harley, Ms. Marvel, Flash and Starfire with his various gag items.
"Joker." Nightwing said.
"Ugh great, the crazy clown that puts IT to shame." Spider-Man groans.
"Please not even Stephen King could match the madness that is Joker." Nightwing said as they watched him load the heroes into his catering van before driving off.
"This is why clowns are a dying form of entertainment." Spider-Man said.
"Don't worry I'll hack into the traffic light server and see if I can find his license plate." Nightwing said typing and sees an image of a warehouse.
"Wow how'd you do that so fast?" Spider-Man asks.
"Experience, I've been doing this since I was 9." Nightwing said as a map appeared. "Okay he's about 10 miles away. If we hurry we can stop him."
"Then we better get moving." Spider-Man said as they ran out. "Hey what do we do about the laughing school?"
"Don't worry that stuff wears off in about an hour." Nightwing said as they fired their webs and grapple gun before swinging away.
Atop an old warehouse, Spider-Man and Nightwing land on the roof.
"Over here." Nightwing gestures.
Looking inside, they saw a tied up Harley Quinn, Ms. Marvel, Batgirl, Flash and Starfire sitting in chairs as Joker had his props lined up.
"Now you kids are really lucky. It's not often I give private shows to just anyone. You get all my best material for yourselves. Aren't all your friends gonna be so jealous?" Joker chuckles.
"Yeah I'm so honored." Harley rolls her eyes when Joker looks to her and walks over.
"Hmm you know your kind of cute. I'm always looking for an assistant. Interested?" Joker asks.
"Well that's the thing Mr. J as tempting as your offer is there's just one problem." Harley said.
"What's that Harley?" Joker asks.
"Come closer." Harley said as Joker leans in so taking a deep breath Harley looks to him. "NO WAY IN HELL I WOULD EVER WORK ALONGSIDE A CRAZY NUTJOB LIKE YOU!" Harley yells at the top of her lungs causing Joker to flinch in pain.
"Aaah! You little brat!" Joker growls turning to her. "Just for that you die first."
"We gotta move fast." Spider-Man said.
"Any ideas?" Nightwing asks.
"I'll distract Joker and free the others." Spider-Man said.
"No way I've faced Joker before he's crazy. He loves to talk during fights, if you listen to him he'll get inside your head." Nightwing warns when Spider-Man realized something.
"Wait a minute…I like to talk too." Spider-Man said grinning under his mask.
Down below, Joker was lining them all up in a kill row.
"You will not get away with this!" Starfire said.
"They'll track you down and stop you!" Batgirl said.
"Oh Batbrat they've been doing that to me for years, but I always bounce back up." Joker said.
"Then maybe it's time you try a different opponent!" A web latched onto Joker's arm and yanks him across the warehouse and crashing to the ground.
Groaning Joker looks up to see Spider-Man waiting for him.
"I know it's not a giant hook but I was pressed for time." Spider-Man said causing the Superhero High students to smile.
"Spider-Man!" Batgirl smiles happy to see her boyfriend.
"Oh yeah you're going down clown." Ms. Marvel cheers.
"Hardly!" Joker takes out a knife and cuts himself free from the webs before charging at Spider-Man who dodges the slashes and elbows Joker making him drop the knife but Joker kicks Spider-Man making him tumble back.
Taking a fighting stance, Spider-Man throws a punch but Joker blocks and punches back.
Starfire was about to say something when she felt someone pulling against her bindings.
Turning around she saw Nightwing cutting her free.
"Shush." Nightwing said as she nods letting him get to work.
"Get ready Spider-Man I'm gonna squash you like the annoying bug you are!" Joker said going on the attack.
"Aw why do you have to be so angry? What's a matter couldn't get a job as a rodeo clown so you became a villain?" Spider-Man asks causing Joker's prisoners even Nightwing to chuckle causing Joker to twitch annoyed.
"Funny boy." Joker smirks.
"Too bad I can't say the same for you." Spider-Man said as Joker leaps in but Spider-Man leaps out of the way. "You gotta be the worst comedian in the world." Firing a web, it hits Joker in the face.
Growling Joker rips it off. "You little brat, who do you think you're talking to?" Pulling out a crowbar Joker attacks him.
"Sorry clown but it's time someone booed you off stage." Spider-Man said dodging the attacks before leaping across from him.
"You can't get inside my head boy. Many have tried but no one not even Batman could." Joker said.
"Oh so that's why you always went after him. The one person who would never laugh at you. Face it clown that'll never happen." Spider-Man said.
"I'm not hearing this." Joker said in denial.
"I've met Batsy and let me tell you that man has no sense of humor." Spider-Man said walking towards him. "Not that I blame him. I mean come on: joy buzzers, squirt flowers? Where do you get this stuff? The dumpster behind a party store? Make a funny face, rip your pants, try farting for crying out loud."
"Shut up! Shut up!" Joker snaps attacking him.
Hearing this Nightwing looks up at Spider-Man surprised. He and Batman had fought the Joker on many occasions but they never got a reaction like that.
"What is he doing?" Nightwing asks freeing Batgirl.
"Doing what he does best. Messing with people." Batgirl grins.
"You think you can make people laugh you little brat? You think you're better than me?!" Joker snap.
"Oh I'm pretty good for example. I do pretty good impressions." Spider-Man said jumping back mimicking Joker's posture. "Hi everyone I'm the Joker my jokes are so old the first ones to use them were cavemen." Spider-Man said in Joker's voice causing all the heroes nearby to laugh.
"He nailed it." Flash laughs.
"Hey clown how do you like this punchline?" As Joker swings the crowbar Spider-Man grabs his arm and punches Joker in the gut knocking him back.
"Hey Mr. J looks like the only joke is you!" Harley laughs.
"Not funny." Joker growls.
"You're so pathetic it's sad. What's your story? Daddy didn't love you so became a villain? Nah that's too obvious. Truth is Joker you're just a loser." Spider-Man laughs.
"Don't you dare laugh at me!" Joker growls but Spider-Man trips his legs making Joker hit the ground.
"Why not? That's your thing, isn't it? Oh but I guess if you don't use your props no one ever would." Spider-Man said stopping in front of Joker so he was looking him in the eyes. "Face it Joker, you're not funny and you never were. That's why do all these sad pathetic jokes and are so desperate to get Batman's attention. You're not a psycho, you're a not villain you're a just guy whose life is so sad and pathetic you'll do anything to make yourself the center of attention and I gotta say...that's only thing funny about you."
Eyes widening something snapped in Joker as he roars tackling Spider-Man to the ground choking him.
"No!" Batgirl said in horror.
Getting up Nightwing sprinted towards them as fast as he could.
"I am gonna bash your stupid head open! You hear me you little brat! I always get the last laugh! Me! So go ahead and laugh it up Spider-Man let me hear you make fun of me! Come on laugh! Laugh!" Joker yells.
"Ha…ha." Spider-Man said as his stingers grew and he stabs Joker in the arm causing him to howl in pain.
Using this opening Spider-Man kicks Joker off sending him crashing to the ground.
"Whoa." Nightwing said in awe as Spider-Man stood up and fired a web wrapping around Joker.
Before he could even react Spider-Man swings him around and around before throwing him up and firing multiple webs making Joker hang upside down like a bug caught in a web.
"Let me go! Let me go right now!" Joker yells trying to break free.
"Hey guys is that that world's ugliest clown pinata or what?" Spider-Man asks and instantly all the heroes burst into laughter.
Hearing this Joker flinches as the heroes pointed and laughed at his humiliation. This was all wrong, he always got the last laugh. No one could take that away from him…until today.
Soon the police came to grab Joker who was struggling.
"SPIDER-MAN! I SWEAR THE SECOND I BREAK OUT OF ARKHAM I'M COMING FOR YOU! AND WHEN I DO I'LL HAVE THE LAST LAUGH!" Joker yells when a web fires over his mouth shutting him up.
"That should make the ride back easier for you guys." Spider-Man said.
As they left, Harley grabs Spider-Man and laughs.
"Spidey that was the funniest butt kicking I ever saw!" Harley laughs.
"Did you see his face?" Ms. Marvel chuckles.
"I can't believe it. You actually got inside the Joker's head. Not even Batman could do that." Nightwing said.
"Well Batman's not a people person, but I am." Spider-Man said.
Nightwing looks at Spider-Man and smiles softly. When the day started Nightwing thought coming to school was a waste of time, but after meeting Spidey he saw he had a reason to stay.
He found a reason to keep him on his game.
Little did they know up on top of the warehouse, Batman was looking down at them with interest.
That night at Super Hero High, Jaden was in his room laying down on his bed with Barbara at the chair on his desk.
"Well this was a wild first day." Jaden sighs.
"Tell me about it. How many people can say they beat one of Batman's worst enemies?" Barbara asks.
"Guess the clown only likes it when he's doing the jokes, not when someone is making jokes about him." Jaden said sitting up when Barbara walks over.
"Even so you were pretty amazing." She smiles.
"No one kidnaps my favorite girlfriend and gets away with it." Jaden smiles.
"You are something else." Barbara said kissing Jaden on the lips which he happily returns.
The school semester may have just started up but the surprises were always coming.
