Chapter 44: War Buddies

Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. This was a fun chapter and one I really enjoyed. I know it's a little short but I needed to get this done so I can prepare for my big event. I hope you like what I have planned and if any of you have seen X-Men: First Class you'll recognize a scene in this. Please Review and Enjoy.

We find ourselves in a fight against in World War II as an intense battle was going on.

In a small village that Hydra had taken over, we see the US Army and the Amazons engaged in an epic battle against Hydra.

"Come on ladies! Let's kick some ass!" Bucky said aiming a gun and firing taking out some soldiers.

Grinning he didn't notice a Hydra solider aiming at him when suddenly Artemis slit his throat saving him.

"Keep your eyes open Bucky I can't always be around to keep an eye on you." Artemis lectures.

"Oh please you love playing babysitter." Bucky smirks.

As the battles went on no one noticed a shadowy figure race towards the Hydra base.

Entering the building Captain America and Hippolyta were fighting off Hydra soldiers with ease.

Whacking one away with his shield, Cap aims a gun and fires killing soldiers when Hippolyta races in and dodges their fire before slicing their heads off.

As one tried to get away Hippolyta threw her shield whacking him into the wall.

"Hey that's my thing." Captain America smirks.

"Correction was your thing." Hippolyta smirks when more soldiers came in. "Red Skull is up ahead shut this thing down."

"Kiss for luck?" Captain America asks.

Grabbing him by his sleeve, Hippolyta yanks Captain America into a kiss before pushing him away.

"Now get going." She smiles.

"You got it sweetie." Captain America said running deeper into the base.

In a lab, a man with a red face was working on something. This was Red Skull, leader of Hydra.

"Come on. Come on." Red Skull said when Captain America kicks the door open.

"It's over Red Skull." Captain America said entering the room.

"Ah Captain America. Must you always make things difficult for me?" Red Skull glares turning to him.

"Your forces are done; you've made these people suffer enough." Captain America said.

"He's not the only one who's got a bone to pick with you." A voice said as Cap was surprised to see a man burst in through the windows and grab Red Skull from behind.

"What?!" Red Skull gasps to see three blades come out of his hands and aimed at him.

The man had black hair, a beard, a US Army outfit, and black gloves for his claws, this was Wolverine.

Breaking free from his hold Red Skull throws Wolverine towards Cap and pressed a button and an escape hatch opened.

"He's getting away!" Cap said as Wolverine got up.

"Not for long! Stay outta my way noob!" Wolverine said as they both chased Red Skull through the hatch.

Reaching the end they saw Red Skull running to a car but before they could catch him a squad of Hydra agents lined up with machine guns to protect their leader.

Opening fire Cap raised his shield to block the bullets while Wolverine got hit in the arm causing him to wince.

"Over here!" Captain America grabs Wolverine and pulls him behind some crates. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." Wolverine said as Cap saw the bullet wound heal all by itself.

"How did you do that?" Captain America asks.

"I'm a really fast healer." Wolverine said as they looked up to see Red Skull driving off. "Dammit! He got away."

"Red Skull may still be alive but his forces are still here." Captain America reminds. "I could use your help."

Looking at him Wolverine growls his claws. "Cover me and I'll take care of the rest."

"You got it uh…" Captain America pauses.

"Wolverine." He grins.

"Captain America." He said.

"I know. Now start fighting." Wolverine said getting up.

Leaping over the crates, both Wolverine and Captain America fought off Hydra.

Raising his shield, Cap blocks the fire while Wolverine charges in and slashes the agents.

Zooming out we see this was an image of the two heroes on the screen aboard a small SHIELD plane.

"Oh man Wolverine and I were a force to be reckoned with." Steve smiles as he, Diana, and Jaden looked at the image.

"Wow so this guy is like one of your old war buddies?" Jaden asks.

"Emphasis on old. He's fought in both World War II and the Vietnam World." Maria Hill said walking in.

"Agent Hill." Jaden acknowledges.

"Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Captain America." She nods acknowledging them.

"So what's the deal? How is he not dead? Is he immortal?" Diana asks.

"No, his powers while including the claws he also has a healing factor mutation allowing him to live very long." Maria explains.

"So what is my old friend a SHIELD Agent?" Steve asks.

"Not even close. We've been trying to recruit him for years but he shuts down every time. With the Avengers Initiative, he could really help people but we thought that by bringing in a familiar face he would listen." Maria explains.

"Hmm I don't know. Logan was never really a team player." Steve pauses.

"But even so if he fought in all those battles, he must have tons of experience." Jaden said.

"You think he'll listen to you dad?" Diana asks.

"I'm probably our best chance. Plus it'll be nice to have an old war buddy. All the others are either on Themscyria or dead." Steve said as the plane landed in Chicago.

Entering a bar, the four of them look to see Logan at the front drinking whiskey and smoking a cigar.

"Logan I'm Maria Hill of SHIELD." Maria said walking up to him.

"Go fuck yourself." Logan said not even turning around. "If Fury even thinks I'm gonna join him he's mental."

"Always the gentleman huh Logan?" Steve calls out getting his attention.

Turning around Logan saw Steve walk up to him.

"Well, I'll be you're alive. Or did I drink too much again?" Logan smirks.

"Nope, alive." Steve said as Logan turned to face him.

"Last time I heard about you, you got turned into a human popsicle." Logan said.

"Yeah these two dug me out." Steve said gesturing to Diana and Jaden.

"Oh god. Is this what Fury has been nagging me to try and join? Babysitting?" Logan asks.

"No it's a special team of heroes called the Avengers." Steve said.

"Pass. I don't like being on a team." Logan said sitting back down.

"Come on buddy what happened to our dynamic duo? For old times sake." Steve said.

"You don't get it pal. The war is long over and so are we. I'm not interested in being a second Justice League." Logan said.

"Because the solo life is easier than having to look out for others?" Jaden asks getting his attention. "Yeah I get it. That's how I started out."

"Great so what do you want a medal?" Logan asks sarcastically.

"This is about doing something that's bigger than yourself. Don't you care?" Diana asks.

"What part of no do you people not get? Try doing things for yourself for once." Logan said.

"They say you were an amazing fighter, boy Steve things must have been different in WW2." Jaden said turning Logan around. "Look pal I get it. You think you're good enough to do it all on your own and if anyone else joined in it would slow you down because I thought that way too when I started out, but that's the thing even when I thought I could handle it by myself I always ended up finding help from others because that's what being a hero is all about helping people even when you think they don't deserve it." Jaden explains.

'Not bad.' Maria smiles looking at him.

"I'm saying you have to join us but there has to be a way to convince you to give us a chance." Jaden said.

Pausing Logan drinks his whole shot glass down in one gulp before looking at Diana and Jaden and then to Steve. "These kids on this team with you?"

"Yes they are." Steve nods.

"Alright what are your names?" Logan asks.

"Jaden Cooper."

"Diana Rogers."

Raising an eyebrow Logan looks to Steve who smiles saying she was right.

"Nice." Logan said holding up his hand and they high five. "Alright, rookies I'm gonna make you a deal. If either of you can land one hit against me, I'll consider it."

"That's it?" Diana asks.

"Me and Diana against you?" Jaden asks.

"Like powers and all that?" Diana asks.

"Please if I use my powers you two will be cut to shreds. We'll do it the old-fashioned way." Logan said.

In a gym, Steve and Maria sat on a bench as Logan was facing Jaden and Diana in a boxing ring.

"Logan if possible please don't kill them." Steve said.

"I'll try not to but no promises." Logan said hanging his jacket on the end to reveal his muscular body.

"You ready Jaden?" Diana asks.

"Ready as I'll ever be." Jaden nods.

"Come at me one at a time or at the same time. I can take it either way." Logan said.

"In that case." Charging in Diana throws a punch but Logan blocks it with ease.

"Just like your swinging a shield. You really are his kid." Logan said as Diana threw another punch but Logan blocks with his other hand.

Thinking he was wide open Jaden moves in to attack but Logan grips Diana tight and throws her at him.

Eyes widening Jaden caught Diana bridal style before they fell to the ground.

Getting back up Jaden does a roundhouse but Logan dodges and punches him on the gut knocking him to the corner before moving in and attacking Diana.

Holding up her hands to guard Diana blocks his strike but Logan knees her in the gut causing her to drop allowing him to elbow her in the back knocking her to the ground.

Jaden sweeps his leg but it just bounces off Logan's leg causing him to smirk while Jaden gulps.

"Bad move kid." Logan said before punching him the face.

Grabbing both teens, Logan lifts them and throws them back causing them to bounce off the ring before he does a double lariat knocking them both to the ground.

"I see time hasn't made him any softer." Steve cringed.

"No if anything he's tougher." Maria said.

Struggling to get up both Jaden and Diana lean against the rail.

"We're not gonna beat him fighting like this." Jaden said.

"Plan B then." Diana said as they both got up.

Grabbing Jaden by the shirt, Diana spins him around before throwing him at Logan who jumps back but Jaden uses the momentum to leap in and deliver a kick which Logan blocks with a cross block.

Doing a backflip Jaden moves in and grabs his arms.

As Jaden and Logan grapple, Logan applies pressure causing Jaden to step back.

"You didn't honestly think you could overpower me, did you?" Logan asks.

"No…I just need you trapped." Jaden smirks letting go of one hand Jaden slides in and grabs Logan by the legs before Diana moves in and kicks Logan in the gut sending him backwards.

Staggering back, Logan growls as he looks to Jaden and Diana who were exhausted before cracking a smile and chuckles.

"Not bad kiddoes. You win." Logan said surprising them.

"Seriously?" Jaden said.

"I said one hit. I'm a lot of things but I am a man of my word." Logan said.

"So does that mean you'll join SHIELD?" Maria asks.

"No way in hell." Logan said almost immediately.

"But you just said." Maria said.

"I said if they managed to land a hit on me I would help. Lady I'm not a team player I'm not gonna help you agents on missions and I'm certainly not gonna help teach kids how to save people at your dumb school, but if things turn life or death out there, I am willing a hand but that's it." Logan said.

"That's it?" Diana asks.

"Really?" Maria asks.

"Take it guys, that's the best you're gonna get out of him." Steve said speaking from experience.

"Well it's better than nothing." Jaden said walking up to him. "At least you're on our side."

"So long as you guys don't piss me off." Logan said grabbing his jacket. "I'm going to the bar. Things get bad give me call. If not don't bother me."

"Is this a victory? Doesn't feel like one." Jaden groans causing Maria to chuckle.

"It's progress which is something we haven't made in a long time so yes, it is a victory. Good work Avengers." Maria said.

"Yes!" Jaden and Diana smile before falling back and laying down exhausted.

"Kids." Steve chuckles.

"Not bad, not many people would go toe to toe with the Wolverine and live." Maria said.

"Good thing he doesn't eat spiders or I'd be screwed." Jaden said.

"I like you. You're funny." Maria smiles.

Little did they know in a dark room in an unknown location, Klarion walks in to see the blue cube hooked up to the machine.

"At last, the tesseract is ready." He grins before turning to the screen where Vandal Savage is waiting.

"Is everything set?" Savage asks.

"All set, just gotta pick up my scepter. You better hold up your end." Klarion said as his cat climbs onto his shoulder.

"The Justice League will not be a problem. I will make it so all the members will be forced to go off world in order to stop me, but by the time they do you will have already conquered this planet." Savage said.

"And with the help of our new forces no one will stand up to us. It would take a Second Justice League to stop this." Klarion grins.

"Good, everything is falling into place." Savage grins.

Something big was coming, and no hero would be ready for the battle to come.
