Long time no see eh? Well, this chapter is based on Frozen. I finally found the direction in which the story will go. It's hinted in this chapter. The next chapter will be based on Frozen 2. After that, the future will begin. I know that this is a very long chapter and I honestly don't know if the next one is gonna be shorter or not, but I really wanted to give some information on the new character in these two chapters. I also wanted to put in some fluff but I don't know if it worked so if you would please drop in a review, I might be able to come up with something better.Appreciated.Enjoy ;)
"It was Elsa's coronation day, and I was oversleeping already. One of the castle staff woke me up, and I got up and ready for the day. I was extremely happy, and excited for what the day would bring." Anna narrated but Elsa interrupted.
"And so she was singing."
"Hey!" Anna looked at her adamantly and quite embarrased.
"You sang?" Agnarr asked eybrows raised and a smile on his face.
"Looking back, it wasn't really that great at all." Anna said in a small voice.
"Oh posh! You've got a great singing voice sis."
"Aww... thankyou." Anna was touched.
"So anyway! After I finished my song, I was just running down the docks, and I crashed into a horse; Or rather, a horse crashed into me."
"Ouch." Iduna said sympathetically.
"Yeah. I fell inside a boat and that boat was going to slip off the dock, when that horse kept his hoof on the other end of the boat. I was just getting tossed around. And then the rider asked me if I was okay. Well, I was fine then. He introduced himself as prince Hans of the Southern Isles."
"Hans?" Agnarr asked surprised.
"Yep."
"Did he even apologize?" Iduna asked incredulously.
"He was decent enough to apologize, yes." Anna told her.
"But, I suppose knocking people into boats deliberately dosen't count as decency." Alex added.
"Wait, deliberately?! Why didn't you ever tell me this before!?" Anna asked him.
" I...thought you already knew. I mean, what other job did he have in the docks when he was supposed to be at the coronation halls?" Alex asked her back.
"Hmm... hadn't thought of that before." Anna said.
"Okay, well, I heard the bells ring out and went to the halls where the coronation was taking place. He was there too. After the coronation, we talked to each other a lot. That's when I realized that I was... falling... for him." She said the last sentence in a small voice.
"You fell for Hans!?" Iduna was surprised.
"Yes. I know... big mistake..." Anna was saying but Agnarr cut her off.
"Wait, I thought he was a good kid."
"No!"
"Oh no no no! He was definitely the worst!" Elsa and Anna exclaimed in unison.
"Exactly!" Kristoff half yelled.
"Oh okay." Agnarr was surprised at their strong reactions.
They chuckled at each other.
"Well, after that, there was a ball. I didn't really know that I was supposed to stand beside Elsa, but Kai was all about rituals." Anna narrated.
Agnarr and Iduna smiled. Kai was an old friend they were extremely eager to meet.
"He pushed me to stand beside Elsa. It was... awkward." She said looking at Elsa.
She was in agreement of that.
"I don't remember the exact conversation after that, but I do remember that we smelled chocolate and giggled at our antics and craziness over it. Then, the duke of Weselton came over to ask Elsa for a dance."
"Oh no." Iduna said warily. "He's been obsessed with her since she was even born!"
"Yep. And she returned the favour by telling him that I was the one who danced. You can imagine what might've happened after that."
"Mmhm." Agnarr and Iduna nodded.
"He pranced around like a chicken with the face of a monkey." Alex quoted him.
They all laughed.
"Well, then I went back to her exhausted from all the questions he asked me that I didn't answer of course We were tired, but... happy. I wished that it would always stay that way, but..." She hesitated looking towards Elsa for approval of telling everything as it had happened. She nodded at her. "... Elsa denied."
Agnarr frowned. "But... why?"
"I..." Elsa hesitated as what she was about to say might put her parents in an awkward situation. "...didn't want Anna to get hurt again. So I, hadn't told her about my powers yet."
Agnarr and Iduna blinked with shock. They had expected that Elsa might've handled the situation pretty well, but, they hadn't thought of it from her perspective. They were extremely sorry for them.
"Y...you mean... you had kept it all a secret? Alone? For all those years? Even after we... we...weren't there?" Agnarr asked disbelievingly, his eyes widened.
She nodded.
Iduna gasped putting her hands over her mouth tears welling up in her eyes.
"Anna, I... we're really so very sorry. It's our fault we did all those things to you. I know that we shouldn't have done them in the first place, but...we thought we could...fix it in time." Agnarr was almost speechless, but he could manage a heartfelt apology.
Under other circumstances, Anna wouldn't have accepted his apology that easy. She knew they had done all that for her protection, but they had no right to mess about her head. She felt the pain in his voice, and she couldn't stop herself. She couldn't hold it against him for trying to protect her.
"I know you did it for the best." Anna said smiling.
They knew she hadn't exactly forgiven them for their actions and choices. She was right not to. They didn't deserve it. If only they had more faith in her...
They only smiled at her sadly... accepting the fact that a simple apology wasn't going to cut it.
"Well, I thought it might be best if I let her be alone for a second." Anna continued.
"So I excused myself out of there, and was just going through the crowd, when someone bumped into me; again. I almost fell, but Hans was there and he caught me. After that, we talked for a while, again. We liked each other. I mean, there were a lot of similarities between us both."
Agnarr and Iduna couldn't see why he was a terrible guy until her next sentence.
"So he proposed to me."
A dark expression crossed both their faces as they guessed what he was upto.
"Aaand... I was stupid enough to accept."
"Oh dear!" Iduna said.
"Yes! I know! Greatest mistake of my life." Anna said.
"And so, we went to Elsa to ask for her blessing for our marriage. She denied, thankfully!"
They were both relieved.
"But, I kinda got angry on her for doing that. She warned me a couple of times to stop, and even tried to calm me down, but I just went up rising until the whole room could hear me. Elsa tried to leave, but I grabbed her glove and didn't give it back to her even when she asked for it. I...pushed her too hard and...well, she...snapped. The next thing I knew was that there was an ice wall with icicles jutting out between all the others including me and her who was standing by the door. I was shocked. I didn't know what to do. I tried to stop her, but I knew I was far too late. She had already left. I tried to climb the ice but I...was not a great climber on ice. Alex was there in the room, and he climbed and jumped off the wall and helped me from over the other side to climb up. I did, but until then, The duke of Weselton and his men were already on Elsa's tail. We ran toward the exit but couldn't reach it before them. There was another accidental blast of ice and the others who were at the doors fell down, including the duke. I think I was dazed at that time, so I don't exactly remember what all happened but the next thing I knew was that I was chasing after her on solid ice which was once the fjord."
"Wait, what?" Iduna asked.
"That's the point where I froze Arendelle and the fjord."
"You mean, literally; like everything turned to ice? Or..." Agnarr was quite dumbfounded by amounts of power she had.
"Well, the fjord got frozen in solid ice, but I set off an eternal winter in the kingdom... It started snowing."
Elsa looked a bit disturbed.
"But do we know it was eternal? Cause it only lasted around three days." Olaf asked rhetorically.
It was sucessful in putting everyone thinking about it. Elsa was getting awkward.
"But it didn't last, thankfully; that's important." Anna said surely, gazing nervously at Elsa. She knew better than anyone else that Elsa avoided the haunting past.
Everyone else agreed with her... everyone except Elsa. Though she didn't say anything out loud, Alex could feel her uncomfortability just sitting beside her on the huge sofa in Anna's room. He looked at Anna willing her to continue before anyone else raised any other questions. She did, without losing a millisecond.
Elsa was still uncomfortable with the fact that just a few years ago, she was the reason that her home was almost buried alive in ice. The people didn't help much either. She still remembered the gazes she got after the whole incident. The people had calmed down later, but her thoughts were still distressed.
What if the winter never had stopped? What if something like this happened again? What if this time, it's worse?
Being queen for 3 years, she knew how much raw power the people can use against her. It was quite a miracle that Anna's birthday was actually celebrated without anything going wrong except Elsa getting a cold. The first council meeting was a disaster. She still remembered being heavily disrespected and hated throughout the kingdom. The kingdom was in a frenzy as the crops died due to the unexpected winter storm, the leaders of some kingdoms taking this as a sign of aggression, and some trying to get into her sweet thoughts by being falsely kind to her so she wouldn't come and freeze over their kingdoms, the trading denials, heavy losses to the economics, trust issues and increased enemy activity, all having the power to shatter her heart. United might isn't an easy thing to control if you're on the opposite end, but still care for the masses opposing you. This troubled her far more than her powers did.
Her thoughts were interrupted as a comforting hand pressed hers. She knew that Alex was with her no matter what. Afterall, he, Anna and Kristoff were the only three who had actually helped her be queen. Anna and Kristoff helped her with all the emotions and Alex helped her to stay strong while facing the people's blaze which was scorching her alive. But perhaps his manipulative skills, strong will, and a powerfully calm demeanor wasn't enough to prevent an uprising... Or was it?
She had never seen Alex use all his might against anything before. Almost everything he did had a valid reason to it: and he nearly always won at everything due to it; all without stressing himself to his complete extents. She found a certain sense of comfort in him. Maybe it was his ability to stay cool even in the most tense situations, where alone, she would probably lose her head in panic, the warmth of his hand, his bluish-silver eyes radiating a fierce, powerful but a soft sense of knowledge. Or was it something else? She scrapped the idea as soon as it came to her. No way! Her brain screamed at her...literally. She was surprised as the voice in her head started to drown her own. She suddenly felt as if she was losing control over herself, as her hands got ready to flare up as she felt a powerful surge of her powers travel through her entire body. And then, she felt it release it's hold over her hands. She didn't lose a nanosecond recalling her powers, but the damage was done.
Alex felt a slight sting on his hand as ice coated it coming from the hand he was holding. He looked down and at Elsa questioningly. He saw her blink confusedly focusing no where in particular, but a split second later, she was back from her daze. She blinked twice in a rapid succession and looked at him recalling her ice. He tilted his head in a manner of asking if she was alright. She nodded. He shrugged and looked at Anna who was continuing the story.
She was far from alright. What the hell had just happened!? She shut down all the thought processes she had running, and just concentrated on her sister's voice narrating the story. Fortunately, no one had noticed anything.
"...and so, me and Alex reached Oaken's." Anna said. "Me with a frozen dress even after riding with a horse, and Alex completely dry even after following me on foot." She added ruefully being sarcastic. They all laughed.
"But I must say; I was quite impressed that you could follow me all day on foot. If I'd just known..."
"You'd have sent me back." Alex completed her sentence smirking.
Anna giggled. That's exactly what she would have done.
"Well, after that, I got a dress at Oaken's, which fortunately was a perfect fit. I went over to the counter where Alex was talking to Oaken, when Kristoff came in. He wanted to buy some carrots and some winter gear so I moved..."
"You forgot to mention the fact that you were terrified when you looked at me for the first time and that I also had to ask you kindly to move; twice." Kristoff was smirking. He wasn't about to lose those details in his life; ever.
They started to laugh.
"What was I supposed to do when you were completely dressed like a bandit wearing a mask and a ragged hat and clothes made out of leather completely covered in snow!?" Anna was pouting adamantly.
"That's called winter clothing!" He said laughing merrily clutching his stomach, not giving in to her cute face.
They were all laughing by now.
Anna hiccuped herself out of the laughter and continued.
"Well, he had seen some magical stuff happening up on the north mountain. I decided to go check there for her. I was gonna ask him to take me up there when he called Oaken a crook."
"Oh boy." Iduna had already guessed what might've happened.
"Yep. He threw him out. I didn't get the chance." Anna recalled smiling. That picture was lodged in her mind and wasn't gonna get out easy.
"After doing that, he asked us if we wanted anything else. I took the equipment and the carrots for Sven too. We were going up the north mountain."
Iduna looked at her in a manner that said 'Did you even ask him?'
"Don't worry, I asked him about it and he said yes." She said looking at Kristoff slyly.
He scoffed. "You practically threatned me!"
She giggled. Agnarr smiled. That's his daughter alright.
"Well, I sat in the front with Kristoff and Alex sat in the back of the sled. We were off to find her. After a bit, we were chased by wolves."
"Yeah her loud voice woke them up. They were looking quite grumpy." Kristoff added jokingly.
"What were you even talking about to make your voice so loud anyway?" Elsa asked. She was also hearing the detailed story for the first time.
"Oh Kristoff was just asking me questions about Hans. Questions like his favourite food, best friend's name, last name, nose-picking habits and something about his foot-size."
The last words jumped Kristoff like crazy and Agnarr raised his eyebrows at him.
"Foot-size?" He asked him in a tone that implied 'Seriously!? That's the best you got?'
"I...was raised by trolls." Kristoff defended.
"Hmm...fair enough." Agnarr smirked.
Anna and Elsa were going to ask a question, when Alex loudly gave a fake cough and asked Anna to move on. He appeared smiling slightly but was dying with laughter on the inside.
Anna after giving him a look of confusion obliged.
Iduna stayed cool, restraining herself from laughing and rolling her eyes.
"Okay, so we fortunately enough, were able to escape before getting seriously hurt. Only Kristoff's sled fell of a cliff and caught on fire. Actually, he saved my life by throwing me on Sven at the last second, and then cutting the ropes tying him down. Alex was fighting off the wolves from behind. The sled went over the edge and they both jumped off, hanging at the cliff. A wolf jumped on top of Kristoff. It had almost reached him, when Alex bashed it in it's face with the detatchable half of his staff, the other half buried in the edge of stone of the cliff. It was a damn terrifying moment, but thankfully, none of us were eaten alive or fell off a cliff."
"Then, Anna saved me by throwing a rope attatched to Sven, just as I was slipping off the cliff." Kristoff added. "That's kinda where I fell for her."
"Whoa!" Agnarr and Iduna were extremely impressed.
"Funny how people almost always fall for the other people who saved their lives." Olaf said looking at Elsa for no reason in particular.
Thankfully, no one noticed her blush lightly or the fact that her gaze travelled to Alex for a split second and back to Anna, who was sitting just opposite to them. Olaf also didn't see it.
"Yeah. I mean Iduna saved mine back at the forest. Kristoff saved Anna and she saved him back." Agnarr got terribly close to an Alex-Elsa duo, but didn't quite reach it. "That's gotta be real."
"So anyway, we went up to the north mountain on foot. That's where we met Olaf." Anna continued. "It's quite a story."
"So we were going through some beautiful woods... and ...we..." Anna couldn't contain her laughter. So Alex continued it for her.
"...we heard someone talking alone behind us. We turned around to see Sven... Kristoff was looking at him closely as if to check that he wasn't dreaming about Sven talking. Anna was too busy thinking that it wasn't the only magic she'd seen that day, to notice Olaf walk up to her. She did notice movement beside her, and looked at Olaf who wasn't there before..."
Anna's laughter was consistently increasing, and the contagion was travelling around the room.
"...completely unmoving, and then he asked her if he was right, just out of nowhere.
Anna screamed and kicked his head off."
Anna burst laughing earnestly now, the split in her side incerasing dramatically.
"I'm sorry! The way his face compressed when I did that, was just..." She apologized but laughed all that hard too.
Olaf joined in too with everyone else.
"Kristoff caught him and tossed it back at Anna and it continued between them, while poor Olaf's other half was chasing his head around...completely confused." Alex continued, taking the lead from Anna.
They were all teary with laughter at how he phrased it.
"Anna then threw his head on his other half which approached her, completely creeped out by the fact that she was holding a talking snowman's head in her hands and it was trying to tell her to stop making him dizzy. His head fixed inverted and he asked why we were looking like bats hanging off the ceiling. Anna got herself together and put it back upright, and when he said that he was perfect she agreed with 'almost' and then stuffed his face forcefully with a carrot from the bag she saved when we were being chased by wolves. It went through his head leaving a small nose in front, and then Anna pushed it back through his head, making him like his 'tiny' nose even more. He suggested starting things over, introducing himself. Me and Anna introduced ourselves to him, and then he asked us who the 'funky-looking-donkey' was looking at Kristoff and Sven. Anna introduced him as Sven, but then he was all like 'uh-huh, and who's the reindeer'? Anna was confused and told him that his name was Sven."
They were laughing at the introduction.
"After that, Olaf knew where Elsa was, so he told us to follow him. He led us to an ice palace."
"An ice palace!" Iduna was impressed.
"Yeah. It's amazing. With rooms and all too." Anna told her.
"Wow. We should really go there once." Agnarr suggested.
Elsa was beaming.
"Yeah. I'll take you." Kristoff was happy.
"Little brothers will be so happy!" Olaf was excited.
"Little brothers?" Agnarr was a bit confused. "You mean that there are more Olafs?"
"Not exactly. No. They're actually tiny and mischeivious snow men, we like to call snowgies. It has a nice ring to it. And then there's Marshmello who is a snow-giant. Looks terrifying, but is a soft guy on the inside." Anna told them.
"Sweet." Iduna appreciated Elsa.
Alex continued.
"Well, we went at the doors and they magically opened. Anna told me, Kristoff and Olaf to wait outside as the last time she introduced her to a guy, it was a disaster. So we waited outside...for a minute as Anna said. Olaf took it literally."
He looked at Anna asking silently with his eyes if she wanted to continue the story as everything had happened in her perspective after that. She shook her head nodding at Elsa. Elsa saw the short exchange and Anna's gesture and got ready to narrate what had happened next.
They all looked at her as she took the lead from Alex.
"I was surprised that she came all the way from the castle. I wasn't really expecting her, but it was great that she even came to see me, considering what I'd done. I was really happy. She asked me to come down to Arendelle and that we could fix this together, but I didn't want to hurt anyone anymore. I refused, but then she wasn't giving up on me that easy. I got a little distressed, and I told her again and again to leave, but she just stuck with me. She wasn't afraid of me, or hated me; but I was just too blind to see it. She then told me of Arendelle suffering in a winter storm. I didn't know then, but I also didn't know how to get rid of it. I hated these powers of mine. They just weren't leaving me alone. I was getting overwhelmed. There was a storm raging inside the palace and I couldn't stop it. They just flew out of my hands... everywhere; that's where I struck Anna in her heart."
They both gasped audibly.
She continued on sadly.
"Alex and Kristoff had heard the commotion, and they came running to help Anna. I...I didn't even know what I'd done, but she did... and she still tried to stick with me. I was afraid. So that's when I made Marshmello...to throw them all out. He did, but Anna didn't go without a fight."
She looked at Anna to continue the story.
Anna did.
"So I threw a snowball at Marshmello, making him quite angry. He chased after us, and we went downhill. He almost caught us at a 200 foot high cliff. Kristoff created a snow anchor, and we tied a rope around ourselves. Kristoff and Alex were holding the rope."
She laughed at a vivid memory.
"Well, I jumped off the cliff in my haste before Kristoff even started the countdown... at a running start. Alex saw that, and grabbed me just before I jumped, pulling me back. I hit my hip on the edge, and fell off, dragging everyone down with me."
"Whoa." Iduna got exactly why Alex pulled her back, but Agnarr was still confused.
Kristoff explained.
"Because if she had jumped at a running start, she would have swung back to the walls of the cliff at a very high speed and would have broken atleast something."
"Oh my goodness!" Agnarr realized.
"Yeah, it was just stupid of me to do something like that. Well, anyway, we were just lowering ourselves when Olaf fell off. He wasn't hurt, but Marshmello was on top of the cliff, and was pulling us up. Kristoff knocked his head on the walls and fell unconscious for a short amount of time, and Alex got ready to fight Marshmello if needed. He lifted us up and told us not to come back again. Alex almost struck him but I cut off the rope holding us three and we plummetted."
"Wait what!?" Agnarr was shocked.
"Don't worry. There was fresh snow down there, so we didn't get hurt, but, I was still a bit lost as to what to do then. Kristoff noticed my hair turning white. We knew it was because she hit me. And I kinda asked him the stupidest question possible at that moment. I asked him if it looks bad."
Agnarr laughed while Iduna giggled. Elsa was just amused.
"Yeah. I know right? He then told me about his few friends 'the love experts', who might be able to help me."
"Love experts?" Iduna asked curious.
"Yeah, I later found out that they were trolls." Anna said humorously.
Agnarr and Iduna burst out laughing. Kristoff joined in too.
"I'm so sorry Kristoff..." Agnarr was apologizing for laughing. "...We just had no idea."
"Yeah It's okay. I found that out the hard way too." Kristoff was laughing at Agnarr's awkwardness for laughing.
They calmed down and Anna continued.
"So we went there, and they immediately thought that we were both there to marry each other."
"Some love experts I guess." Iduna was impressed as she looked fondly at the duo sitting together at their 10 o'clock.
"Yeah. So we did try to tell them that we really weren't interested in each other, but they just wouldn't listen. They just told me all about Kristoff in a sweet singing voice. They didn't even leave out his minor...flaws." She said looking at her partner who grinned sheepishly.
"Well, it was all sweet and good, until I felt the ice in my heart pulse painfully. That's when Pabbie entered the scene and told me that only an act of true love can save me or I would freeze to death forever."
Agnarr was staring at her with a sad gaze. He felt her. He knew her. She wouldn't give up on Elsa if her life depended on it. It did make him proud, but it also made him really afraid for her life. If something were to happen to Elsa, it would shatter her heart and destroy her soul.
"So then, my only option was Hans. I loved him. And I was also getting colder by the minute which was not in any way related to the weather. We went there on Sven. Olaf sat behind Kristoff as he held me, and Alex came from behind on foot."
"On foot? All the way back?" Agnarr asked.
"No. I tore down a small wooden piece from a nearby tree, and used it as a snowboard. Most of the way was downhill, so I got there pretty quick." Alex told them.
Anna continued.
"Meanwhile, Hans found my horse that had run away, and came to search for me. He somehow found Elsa's castle and tried to find me over there. The duke of Weselton's men, entered the castle, even through Marshmello's defense and on the duke's orders, tried to kill Elsa."
Iduna gaped. She knew that the duke was a terrible guy, but she'd never imagined that he would try to kill her.
"Elsa defended herself pretty well, and got a little too aggressive almost killing them both in her anger, when Hans told her not to be the monster the people thought she was." Anna said sadly. "One of the men raised his crossbow toward Elsa, but Hans just deflected his arm to hit the huge ice chandelier above Elsa's head. It shattered and rained down on her knocking her unconscious."
"Wait a minute. So Hans actually saved her life?" Agnarr asked completely confused at his stand here.
"Honestly, I think he was pretty confused too as to what he was doing." Elsa said.
"Mmhmm." Anna agreed nodding her head and recalled further.
"So then, the soldiers brought her to the castle and... imprisoned her." Anna said.
Agnarr was furious and Iduna was horrified.
"How could Peterssen even allow this!?" Agnarr asked angry at his old friend.
"He didn't. I had put Hans incharge of Arendelle before leaving, and Peterssen was a common citizen as Elsa was already coronated as queen. So he didn't have any power over anyone. He did try to help though. He actually stole the keys to the prison cell that Elsa was held inside and tried to break in, but he was caught." Anna told them.
"Oh." Agnarr now felt guilty at not trusting his friend.
"Well, me, Kristoff and Olaf got back to the castle just in time. I told Hans of what had happened and what Pabbie had told me, but he... bailed."
It didn't come as a surprise to them both, but it still did quite hurt.
"He told me that he was there to just become king here. He told me of his plan to tell the others of our marriage just before my death, and then to kill Elsa and stage it as an accident. He would be the only heir to the throne."
"That's just... cruel." Agnarr said.
A slew of emotions were plastered on their faces. Horror, Fear, Sadness and the primary one being Rage.
"Yeah. After that, he put out the fire and left, locking the door from the outside. All I could do was just sit there...freezing...until Olaf found me. He lit up the fire and helped me understand what true love was. That's when I realized, that what I had with Hans was never true love. It was just the stuff we had in common which drew me to him, but with Kristoff, it was...different. And I didn't even realize it until Olaf told me." She added guiltily. Kristoff, who had his arm around her gave her a comforting squeeze, to let her know, that whatever had happened in the past was in the past, and he loved her no matter what. It gave her the strength to continue. "We got out in the corridors and they were completely covered in icicles. There was no way to escape from there and a huge storm gathered up speed outside the windows. We were trapped. So me and Olaf jumped out of a window which opened up directly out over the fjord. Olaf got blown away."
Agnarr smiled a little imagining Olaf getting blown away.
She looked at Elsa to continue.
Elsa started the story from her perspective.
"I was in the dungeons when Peterssen tried to save me. He had a key in his hand and he tried to open the cell, but was caught. He told me to fight and run. They were going to execute me...Hans was atleast."
Agnarr and Iduna's faces displayed pure horror now.
"I had no idea how to do that, but I wasn't sure if that would even help at all. So I burst out of that cell and ran off. I had to get somewhere far away from Arendelle, so that the winter would stop. It just seemed...logical. I froze the manacles and they just came off. I also froze the water inside the walls looking over the frozen fjord and the they exploded outwards. I ran out over the fjord trying to find a way out of the storm. I saw Hans come up behind me and when I tried to run, he...stopped me."
She took a deep breath as she got ready to tell them the most important part. She could remember it all as if it had happened just a few seconds ago. A venomous memory to stay with her for her remaining life.
"He told me that Anna was dead." Elsa said sadly.
Agnarr and Iduna half expected that but that didn't stop their eyes from flashing powerfully with rage.
"He told me that I... was the one who killed her."
Both their eyes were shining with tears. They felt the fraction of the emotions Elsa must've felt then, conveyed by the fact that even after it all had happened three years ago, Elsa's voice still broke at that sentence.
Elsa still remembered how she had felt over the few seconds that came after. Though it was all a flash, it was an agonizingly slow one. Like having a knife stabbed in your heart. It goes in quickly in real time, but you feel it shear through every single layer of muscle and flesh setting off each pain receptor, one by one slowly, painfully, torturously until you feel nothing. No pain. Just a small shock and then you don't even exist. She had felt like that then. She knew she had sunk to her knees, but she didn't know how to get up. She knew she was going to be killed after she heard him remove his sword from the sheath, but she was already dead. There was just no point in trying to fight, because she'd already lost. She just waited for the pain to come and set her free.
Alex saw that Elsa was in no state to continue. Though she wasn't crying or even had tears in her eyes, he knew she was hurt. So he continued the story for her. He knew what had happened after that anyway.
"I met Kristoff riding Sven downhill toward Arendelle. Sven was going as fast as he could. We were getting blown around in the storm, but Kristoff and Sven kept their heads toward Arendelle. I on the other hand wasn't particularly lucky as a snowman's head hit me in the face and flew off again." He said looking at Olaf who grinned sheepishly.
It lightened the mood a little.
"Well, I lost Kristoff and Sven to the storm and so I just went in the general direction when I saw a fallen ship, broken ice floor and Sven on a block of ice floating in the water. That's Kristoff alright." He joked.
They all smiled lightening the mood even further. Good. A small shock should do the trick now. Bursting them into tears was probably not a bad idea.
"Well, I jumped a few blocks to the other side and ran off with Sven behind me. Sven got a bit of a detour too as his antlers caught on Olaf's head, middle, and his arms and legs. The nose, butt and buttons were still missing." Alex told them.
They all laughed a bit now. What were the chances?! That was the first time he had told that detail to anyone.
"I ran towards where Kristoff must be, when the storm suddenly died down. The weather froze. It wasn't a normal 'Elsa stopped the winter' kind of stop, but a literal freeze, which actually froze every snowflake, every particle of air in it's place. That's the point where Hans told Elsa that Anna was dead. Kristoff saw Anna on the fjord and ran over to her. He had almost reached her but she turned to look at something. Hans was standing over Elsa with a sword ready to decapitate her from behind."
The word 'decapitate' hit hard. He could've easily put in something less painful, but he wanted them to know the truth as it actually happened. They gasped audibly looking completely shocked and terrorized. They had never even imagined something like this happening in the case of Hans, let alone Elsa.
"I pulled out my spear..." He gestured at his staff leaning on the hand-rest on his right side. "...and aimed it at his chest, and threw it hard. But Anna was faster, and closer."
They looked confused.
"Hans had the sword above his head and he was just bringing it down, when Anna jumped in the way, turning to ice at the very last second. His sword hit on Anna's frozen fingers and it shattered, a shockwave ripping through, blowing him backwards. Sadly, I missed his chest, but the spear did it's job going through his armpit to waist winter wear and making him hit the ground hard enough to knock him out. But...nothing changed."
The tears were flowing freely now.
Alex continued.
"Anna was frozen, Elsa was barely alive, and Kristoff had lost a part of his life. All because of a man who laid on ice, unconscious. Elsa was once again devastated. All she could do was just hug her. But that's exactly what saved the day. The act of true love was completed. That was what unfroze Anna, and that's where Elsa got the idea. The trick to controlling her powers." Alex left it to Elsa to reveal it to them.
"Love." Elsa said wiping her tears and smiling at them. All of them.
They all stayed silent; absorbing the information. Agnarr and Iduna were looking at both their daughters fondly. They were all sitting in a circle. Agnarr and Iduna sat on one couch. Anna and Kristoff sat to their left, while Alex and Elsa sat to their right. Olaf and Sven were infront of them. They were all together at last.
Elsa was tired. She couldn't possiby imagine how the guy sitting next to her hadn't even shown a hint of being tired. Except a bit of shadows under his still active and sharp eyes. They were barely noticeable. 'He's a wonder' she thought ruefully as she couldn't even keep herself straight backed resisting leaning back out of exhaustion. Because if she did, her wound would flare up. Alex as if hearing her thoughts removed his left hand which was covering hers and put it around her, just above her gash, and slightly pulled on her shoulder backwards. She felt his arm between the cushion and her back, keeping her gash protected and all the while, giving her the comfort of leaning her back on his arm. His muscles relatively softer than she'd imagined. She couldn't resist the urge to keep her head on his shoulder. He didn't mind. She felt her whole body relax as the wave of relief washed over her. She felt a gentle touch on her hand as Alex's fingers exerted small pressure on the back of her hand. It felt comforting.
She was quite surprised on herself that she'd gotten so close to him. With all his traits of being extremely unpredictable at times, she could still trust him enough to be comforble around him. Normally, she would have stayed away from such people as they could have criminal intentions, and being royalty, she was a big target for them too. But he somehow seemed special. Maybe because he had never shown a hint of wanting more than was necessary for him. He had hundreds of chances to take up the throne by force, or cheat on the people to get money, or collapse the already fragile kingdom just three years ago, or even manipulate Elsa into making the wrong choices in the days of most trouble. But he had never let her down. Yes, they at first had some disagreements over how to get the kingdom up and running after the great thaw, but usually, she found that she gave in to his will over hers and the kingdom flourished. Though she got the credits for lifting Arendelle up to be one of the most prosperous kingdoms on the map now, she never saw Alex leave her shadows and try to come into the spotlights. Even though she had tried to drag him into one.
She had recruited him as a councilman before, and taken up projects to which the other councilmen sneered at her, but Alex supported her ideas. He even once got the nickname 'the queen's apprentice' but he never budged. Yes he had also disagreed with some ideas she had like trading with the super rich kingdom of Ekonimar. The councilmen had agreed to her strongly to start the trades but Alex was the only one who stood against it. Normally, Elsa would have dismissed her concerns, but knowing her friend for two whole years then, she put the agreement on hold, and just a month later, they were all surprised to find out that the kingdom they were about to start trades with was cheating out on the other kingdoms and they all had sustained massive financial losses due to unfair trades. When asked how he knew that such a thing might take place, he gave a simple explanation, that the ships that had arrived at the docks of Arendelle looked worn out with very low maintenance and high loads in them which suggested that it wasn't a secure trade from both sides. And if they really were that rich, they would've first improved the safety of the kingdom rather than try to strike up massive trade relations with lots of loopholes inside the documentations.
Thats why she liked having him on her team. He could see things where others couldn't, even if they went looking for them. The councilmen never dared to call him names ever again.
"But then...how did you find the spirits?" Iduna asked curiously a few minutes later, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Elsa smiled and started the other chapter of their lives.
"It was just seven months ago when I first heard the voice..."
