Not sure that anyone is really reading this on here, but I'm thinking of creating a Twitter account for announcements regarding updates. My main account for writing on AO3 doesn't really have private messaging or polls, so it's also for those purposes. Let me know if that'd be something you'd be interested in me doing. If people are, I'll post it in my bio on my page and let people know in an author's note in whatever chapter I'm on when I do it.
Chapter 10: Take Some Time
Naruto sat on the couch, he hadn't bothered to get ready for the day. He was too lost in his thoughts and realizations. A glass of orange juice sat untouched on the side table next to him. It was much earlier than he would normally be awake, especially on a weekend when he wasn't on tour and Sasuke was still curled up asleep in bed. Or at least he thought he was until he heard a noise behind him.
Sasuke had just woken up, his hair a mess but smiling the biggest smile blond had ever seen on the other man. He was only wearing one of Naruto's oversized shirts, making him appear smaller than he actually was. The collar was loose and slipping down his shoulder a little. "Why are you so happy this early in the morning?" Naruto asked as he watched the other man walk towards him.
"I think you know the answer to that question," Sasuke smiled as he climbed into Naruto's lap, wrapping his arms around the blonde's neck. He was looking deep into his eyes, running a hand through Naruto's hair. "I didn't dream last night," he said softly, lightly kissing the other man. It had been a year and a half and Sasuke had been waiting for this moment almost just as long.
Naruto's eyes widened, realizing he should have known that Sasuke would know. It seemed ridiculous how the blond had realized he loved the other man just the night before. Sasuke had been animatedly talking about his day while getting ready for bed when Naruto had realized he could just sit there and listen to him talk about the most mundane things and never lose interest. He wasn't even sure when he had fallen in love with Sasuke, only that he had finally acknowledged the night before. Still, he couldn't say it even though Sasuke already knew that was how he felt.
"You love me," Sasuke smiled softly. His kisses were soft, having no intention of heating up the moment. He wanted to bask in knowing that they were finally on the same page. "And I love you," he told him. Naruto just nodded and he could tell that it disappointed the dark haired man. "You don't have to say it, knowing you feel it is enough," he assured him, though they both knew that it hurt Sasuke that Naruto still couldn't say those three words.
"I want to say it," Naruto told him, not able to meet his eyes. "I'm sorry," he felt horrible not being able to say the words that he knew Sasuke had been waiting to hear from him.
"It's okay," Sasuke placed his hand over Naruto's heart, "I know how you feel about me." The dark haired man nuzzled his face in the other man's neck, placing light kisses as he held him close. "Say it when you're ready," his words were just above a whisper.
Naruto decided he wanted to take things further, hoping the physical would say what he couldn't put into words, kissing him passionately. He lifted Sasuke as he stood up, causing the other man to tightly wrap his legs around his waist. "Let me show you," he said as he made carried him to their bedroom. "You're really wearing nothing underneath?" he smirked as he squeezed Sasuke's bare ass before gently placing him on the bed. He stared at the other man for a moment, loving the way he already looked like a mess despite them hardly doing anything. His lips were red from kissing, his shirt had ridden up a little showing that he was already half hard just from kissing. Naruto moved so he was between Sasuke's legs, gripping his length. "Your strength kink is showing," he teased, making Sasuke moan a little. The friction was a little rough from the lack of lube, but he liked it.
Sasuke whined a little when Naruto pulled away. "Baby," he watched as Naruto chuckled while grabbing the lube and a condom. "I want to feel you," he told him seductively, "All of you." Naruto threw the condom to the side, long forgotten.
"Fuck, you're so sexy," the blond told him breathlessly as he made his way back to the other man. He licked his lips when Sasuke opened his legs wider with a lustful look in his eyes. Naruto started kissing and sucking his thighs, leaving marks in his wake and making Sasuke moan.
Naruto opened his eyes, his heart racing. He let out a groan as he felt the mess in his pants, feeling like a teenager again. Usually he would wake up hard and wanting release, it had been a while since he actually came in his sleep. "Fuck," he cursed, throwing the covers off of himself. It took him a moment to roll out of bed and go directly to the shower, feeling sticky as he kicked off his pants. He was happy it was too early for Sakura to be up so he wouldn't run into her after obviously having a wet dream.
It was only five o'clock in the morning but he knew there was no way he was going to fall back asleep. He sighed, deciding to use that time to do his wash. Between his sleep pants and his sheets, he needed to do some laundry. He just hoped that it wouldn't wake up Sakura because she might kill him.
Luckily for him Sakura slept through it, even when it started banging around a little for being too full when he stuffed everything in it to only do one load. By the time it was done it was just after seven o'clock. He debated in his mind what he should do. He knew that Sasuke got into the office early with his new position and was sure that he'd be there with very few people around to interrupt them. Naruto thought waking up early might be a sign that he should go talk to him, knowing work was the only place he couldn't run away from him.
"You can do this," he told himself as he looked in the mirror. He wanted to come off as casual, but not as casual as he would normally be for a day in the studio. After multiple outfit changes he settled with a pair of jeans and blue patterned shirt. He thought he looked good, but not like he was trying too hard.
Naruto wasn't sure why he wasn't expecting Sasuke to be in a suit when he arrived. It made sense, the man was now running the entertainment division, but that didn't make it any easier on his heart. He was in a black tailored suit with a white button up and his hair slicked back. The only thing that bothered him was not being able to see the mans tattoos and soulmate mark. "Wow," he accidentally said as he stood in Sasuke's doorway, catching the other man's attention.
"Naruto?" he asked, confused by the man's appearance at his office. "What are you doing here?" he tried to sound unaffected by his presence. "I'm very busy," he mumbled, not looking the other man in the eyes.
The blond walked in, shutting the door behind him and locking it. "We need to talk," he told him before sitting in the chair across from him, not giving him a choice.
"There's nothing to talk about," Sasuke lied as he sat back in his chair.
"How about how you're hiring people around me to keep tabs on me?" he responded confidently. Suigetsu had given it away as to why he and Kakashi had been hired. He smirked when he saw Sasuke's eyes widened. "So, why don't you explain to me why you tell your brother you're doing things so I'll leave you alone and yet you hire a family friend as my manager and your best friend as the photographer on my photoshoot?"
"I," Sasuke tried to think of some excuse. He really didn't have one, he had been going off of instinct when he make sure to surround Naruto with people he knew. People that would report back to him. Now he was regretting his decision. Not because he didn't want to know how Naruto was doing, but because he had made it too obvious. "How did you know?" he asked instead of answering the question.
Naruto laughed, "Suigetsu may have hinted at it and a quick internet search just confirmed that Kakashi is a close family friend. "I answered your question, so why don't you answer mine?"
"Mine doesn't have as easy of an answer," he told him. He didn't know how to explain to Naruto that years of disappointing his father and competing with his brother made him say and do things he didn't really want just to prove them wrong. He didn't have a good explanation as to why he wanted their approval so badly even though he pretended not to care. He didn't know the words to explain the feelings he had for Naruto when he didn't understand them, other than the fact that he was his soulmate.
"Not good enough," Naruto shook his head. "Look, I'm just in the studio today and that can wait so I can sit here all day for an answer," he told him, though he knew someone would likely eventually come look for one of them.
Sasuke sighed, trying to figure out where to begin. "You know Itachi doesn't have a mark, right?" Naruto just nodded in response, it was common knowledge. "Apparently that somehow makes him better than me, at least to my father. I've resented him for years I guess, and then started to rebel," he paused, this wasn't something he often admitted. "I guess for some stupid reason I still want my father's acceptance," he tried to brush it off, but Naruto could tell it hurt him knowing that his father didn't see him as being equal to his brother.
"Your father's an idiot," Naruto responded with no hesitation. "I get that you want his acceptance, but that doesn't give you the right to talk about me like that," he sternly told him. "And if you do it again, we're going to have a serious issue."
"Again?" Sasuke asked as he looked at Naruto. Hated himself a little for looking at the man, finding his eyes wandering to how Naruto's thighs looked in his jeans rather than keeping eye contact.
Naruto smirked, "My eyes are up here." Sasuke blushed a little as he made eye contact with the blond. "Though I'm flattered that you're checking me out," he winked, which only made Sasuke more embarrassed. "Let's just take some time to get to know each other. You can tell me more about what was going on in your mind tonight, when you take me to dinner," he stood up, not leaving room for argument.
"Dinner?" Sasuke felt like an idiot. He'd never been so taken aback in his life.
"You know, the last meal of the day," Naruto teased. "Pick me up from the studio at seven, I expect something a little more casual though. We can play out the CEO fantasy once we get to know each other," he winked again before leaving Sasuke flustered.
The day seemed to go by too slow for Naruto, though that was likely because he had a somewhat date with Sasuke that night. He knew they had a lot to talk about and he just hoped that Sasuke would listen and actually take him to dinner. "Try that again, your voice cracked," Iruka's voice pulled him from his thoughts.
"He's busy being distracted with thoughts of Sasuke," Kakashi teased from his spot next to Iruka at the soundboard. There was really no reason for him to be there when Naruto was recording, but he was there using the opportunity to tease Naruto and flirt with Iruka. "A little birdie told me you were in his office this morning and that Sasuke was very flustered when you left," his voice was suggestive as he wiggled his eyebrows. "Ow," he exaggerated as Iruka slapped him on the arm.
"Leave the poor boy alone," the brunet shook his head disapprovingly. "He already has Sasuke as a soulmate, now he has you as a manager. Isn't he suffering enough?" he sighed. "Just ignore him, Naruto. Let's take it from the top," he suggested.
Kakashi rolled his eyes, "What good is being his manager if I can't tease him and Sasuke about these things?"
"We pay you to manage, not sit here and flirt with your man and tease me and Naruto," Sasuke's voice pulled them away from their bickering. They hadn't even heard him come in until he spoke up. The young Uchiha had indeed changed from his suit into jeans and his usual plain t-shirt, this time a dark blue color. "You ready?" he turned his attention to Naruto, leaning into the microphone Iruka had been using to communicate with him in the booth.
The blond took off the headphones he'd been wearing to record and set them down, "Perfect timing." He walked out of the booth and gave Sasuke a once over before smiling with approval. The man's hair was no longer slicked back, instead falling into his face a little. Naruto moved a piece of hair out of his face, tucking it behind his ear, knowing that h'e was embarrassing the dark haired man. In his mind he felt that he deserved it after what he said.
"Well, aren't you two adorable?" Kakashi teased, once again receiving a disapproving slap on his shoulder from Iruka. "This is spousal abuse," Kakashi sighed.
"You two aren't even married," Sasuke pointe out, trying to change the subject off of him and Naruto.
Kakashi shrugged, "We're soulmates, it's close enough. He's stuck with me either way."
Iruka scoffed, "That can be changed." They all knew he didn't mean it, he loved Kakashi just as much as Kakashi loved him. They teased and bickered, but had long ago established that it was just that, nothing more. There was no malice behind their words, just playful banter.
"Let's go," Sasuke directed, wanting to get away from the other two men before they could embarrass him further.
"Have fun on your date!" Kakashi called after them as they left the room, making the few people still in the hallway look at them.
"Fuck off," Sasuke called back, though he knew it was probably the least professional thing he could do. He should be more careful now that he was actually in a high up position and not just the manager or owner's son. "Where are we going to eat?" he asked the blond, trying to hurry his way out of the building.
"Slow down, we have all night," Naruto laughed as he grabbed the other man's hand to pull him back and make him walk slower. He enjoyed the way that Sasuke just stared at their connected hands. He was still a little mad at him, but he reminded himself that he had known from the start Sasuke was going to be a challenge. The man had convinced himself that he didn't want his soulmate, no matter how much his actions since they fought told a different story.
"We're going for a walk in the park," Naruto told him. "They have this great food truck that sits on the other side, can your fancy ass handle a food truck?" he teased, knowing that Sasuke wasn't really like most rich people. While his brother probably ate at five star restaurants, Sasuke had indicated on their first date, which Sasuke claimed was not a date, he didn't go to those on a regular basis.
"I've eaten at a food truck before," Sasuke frowned. He looked at Naruto and knew that was probably the reason that his father didn't like the blond. Sure he was talented and would probably end up with a good career if his first album was any indication, but he didn't come from money. He didn't act like the person his father had envisioned for his son. It didn't matter if they were soulmates, Naruto wasn't part of high society and therefore somehow lesser in his father's eyes. He'd overheard him tell Itachi that it was amazing how Sasuke somehow found a way to disappoint him further by having an "unacceptable" soulmate.
They walked through the park slowly and quietly. It was a comfortable silence, though they both knew there was still a lot to say. Naruto continued to hold Sasuke's hand, liking the way it felt in his own. "So, tell me what's going on in that mind of yours," Naruto broke the silence.
Sasuke sighed. He knew it was coming, but that didn't make it any easier. "I already told you," he shrugged. "There isn't much more to tell."
"Now that's a lie," Naruto shook his head. "You know it's not stupid to want your family's approval, right? It's natural to feel that way," he assured him, squeezing his hand. "But I know it's more than that," he added, expecting the full answer.
"I don't know," Sasuke let out a deep breath. Heart to hearts were never something he was good at. He had a tendency to bottle it all up and suppress his feelings. "I guess I don't know what to think about you," he admitted. "I never wanted to meet my soulmate and you're," he wasn't even sure how to finish his sentence.
"I'm what?" Naruto asked, not sure yet if he should be offended.
"You're nothing like I imagined," he nervously bit his lip. "You're kinda hard to hate." He tried to dislike Naruto, but at the same time the man was nothing like the man in his dreams. Even his dreams had seemingly taken a sweeter turn. He didn't even want to think about the sex dreams he'd been having more and more frequently. Perhaps it was the fact that he stopped completely hating him so the universe was now trying to make him attracted to him. "You terrify me."
Naruto smiled at Sasuke's response, "Yet, here we are." Naruto stopped walking and looked at Sasuke, "I'm scared too, you know." Sasuke seemed surprised and he supposed that was fair enough given how confident Naruto acted all of the time. "I get being afraid that we're just in this endless cycle of hurt each other each life," he told him, making Sasuke flinch a little. "But that doesn't mean we should give up, right?" he asked.
"Naruto," Sasuke wanted to say no. He wanted to say it wasn't going to work out. "What about when you go on tour?" he asked, they both knew Sasuke's biggest fear was Naruto doing what his past life did on tour. "What then?"
"Then, we FaceTime a lot. We text and call each other too much to be healthy. We figure out how time zones work when I'm in a different country," he laughed a little, making Sasuke shake his head. "You constantly check with Kakashi to confirm I'm being a good boy," he joked, though it may be less of a joke than either of them want to admit. "Look, even the thought of drugs scares me because I don't want to be that person and I've tried sex once with someone else, it hurts like a bitch. I don't know how he did it so often because I couldn't even really finish," he admitted. "You'll know if I mess up in any way, you'll feel it and then you can say I told you so and leave me. Unless that happens, I'm not accepting some dumb excuse as to why we can't at least try," he told him. "We can break this cycle."
"I'm sorry," Sasuke blurted out.
"Don't even say what I think you're going to say," Naruto began to argue.
"No, I meant about what I said to my brother. I never said I'm sorry," Sasuke quickly explained. Another thing he was horrible at was apologies, but he knew that Naruto deserved one. "So, I'm sorry."
"I'll forgive you on one condition," Naruto grinned, pulling Sasuke close to him.
"What's the condition?" Sasuke asked nervously.
"Tell me you'll give us a chance," the blond, grabbed Sasuke by the waist. "Tell me we can try."
Sasuke did something he didn't even expect when he closed the gap between them and placed a quick light kiss on Naruto's lips, "We can try." He stepped away from the blond, putting a little bit of space between them, still embarrassed by his own actions, "Slowly."
"I'm not the one that kissed you," Naruto teased as he grabbed Sasuke's hand again. Sasuke silently looked at him. "Fine, slowly," he agreed with a laugh. "Now, let's go get food, I'm starving."
Neither of them felt the pair of eyes watching them as they walked towards the other end of the park. They certainly didn't know how that one pair of eyes would effect their lives with one simple call.
