Chapter 1: Where am I?
My name, is Kazuma Satou, and I... don't... have anything for this. Well I'm lucky I guess. If that counts for anything. My life so far has mainly consisted of late nights grinding on games, and not much else to be honest. Well, for the past few years at least.
"Finally! The deluxe edition of Twin Blades!"
Just like usual, I only left the house to buy a new game. Annoyingly, this meant I had to go out at 3 pm and get back 2:45 in the afternoon the next day. Fuck midnight releases.
After the painfully long bus drive, on which I barely fucking slept, I got off about a mile from my house, and sighed.
"Why does the bus have to only have a stop on some country road ages from my house?" I said, trying to muster the energy to keep standing.
I looked up from staring at my game case only to be horrified at what I saw. A truck. Speeding head on. To a young girl. I might not have lived a honourable life by any means, but I even I knew I HAD to do something.
Without thinking, I dived in front of the truck, trying to save her life.
Then... Nothing. Did... Did I just die?!
Part 2
My eyes slowly started to open. Did this mean I was alive?
"Just now, you passed on from the living world. I am sorry."
What? Who... Who said that?
"I am the Goddess Aqua, and I will be your guide to the afterlife... Heheh"
So I really am dea- Is she laughing?!
"Are you seriously laughing?! I'm dead!"
Then. She snorted. She fucking snorted.
"I'm sorry it's just- I've been managing the dead from Japan for hundreds of years and-"
This so called 'Goddess' then started rolling around on the floor while laughing. Wow. What even happened?
"I don't even know how I died..." I muttered under my breath. "Is the girl safe at least?"
"Hm?" she finally seemed to have remembered I was there. "Well of course! It was only a tractor after all!"
That's good at least. Wait, a tractor?!
"A tractor? How did I die then?"
"You-You died of shock!" she said before starting to laugh again.
She cleared her throat, before speaking again. "Even the doctors laughed, you you can't blame me. In fact, even your parents couldn't help but laugh"
I just sat there, stunned. I was dead. And my own family had treated it like a joke. I felt so sick. I started to shake- I couldn't breath- I-
I was gone. And no one had cared.
Part 3
Then she started to speak again, hiding a smirk as she did.
"From here, you have three choices. You could be reborn as a baby in your world again, but you would lose all memories."
Fuck that. I'm not doing this again.
"You could go to heaven, but why would you do that? It's basically just a bunch of old people"
Also sounds shit, but not as bad.
"Or, you could be a hero, in a new world! Fight the devil king and save that world! The world even has magic!"
That one... Doesn't seem too bad. But there has to be a catch.
"Hey 'Goddess' what's the down side? I'm not gonna die on day 1 right?"
"Nope! Because you get to bring one thing of your choice! In fact, have a look at these!"
She tossed a stack of papers my way. Gear, abilities, weapons, I had all of them for my choosing.
But they all sucked. They all had some major downside that made them practically, no, entirely unusable.
So I had an idea. A punishment for this bimbo.
"I picked what I'll take with me! I'm bringing you!" I said as a smile formed on my face.
"Okay, just step onto the circ- YOU PICKED WHAT?! Y-You can't do that!"
Then I saw a light coming from above me, looking up, there was a girl descending down to the ground. And she, was beautiful. She actually seemed holy unlike this bitch. Then, she spoke.
"The Gods have heard you request, and they have accepted it. Lady Aqua, I will take over your duty's until you can return."
"Wait what?! Eris! Don't leave me with hiiiiiiiiiiimmmmm!"
Circles appeared beneath both mine and Aquas feet. I began to feel weightless. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, I was in a whole other world.
Part 4
I looked around, trying to find any sense in what had just happened. I had all of my memories, but, this wasn't Japan. Thinking of what to do, my brain finally kicked in after being in disbelief for a solid fifteen minutes.
"If this is anything like an rpg, then there'll probably be a guild hall we should go to."
Then, this bitch finally had the nerve to speak up.
"I didn't think you would know that!
Maybe you won't be so much of waste of time after all!" she said with a smile. "Even if you are a NEET"
What the fuck. Was wrong. With this bitch.
We eventually found our way to a guild hall, which luckily we were allowed to join, but it did put us in debt. On day 1. This is going to end horribly isn't it.
My stats sucked, and the only class I could be was a basic adventurer. I didn't think my luck would have failed me so soon, but here we are. And yet, the bitch I was stuck with got an advanced class. I couldn't even beat her. I guess I was useless. Those people from my life in Japan... were right.
Because of our lack of money, we ended up staying in a stable. The smell of horse shit will haunt me to my grave.
We were going to do a quest but... We had no gear. Maybe bringing this Goddess was a mistake.
So... We did labour for 2 months just to save up the money for some basic gear, and why did it take so long you might ask? Because this useless goddess had spent almost all of our money at the bar each night. Every. Fucking. Night. Turns out she got worse when she was drunk too. I didn't think it was possible for her to get any worse, but it looked like this cruel world was full of surprises already. And I was supposed to be lucky! That's right! All of my stats were below average! All, except for my intelligence, agility, and luck. In fact, my luck was so high above average, I was told be a merchant instead of an fucking adventurer.
Now we had our gear, and it was time to take on a quest. I looked at the board for a few minutes, then I saw it. A quest giving one hundred thousand Eris. And from the looks of things, it was doable.
For our first quest, we had to kill 5 giant toads in three days. Sounds easy right? Wrong. Aqua got eaten twice but luckily, they got quite vulnerable while eating, so I could finish them off. 2 toads on day 1. We can't do this. Aqua was traumatised, and I sure as hell ain't being bait, and unfortunately, we had to apply for teammates. Please dear God don't let them be as bad as Aqua.
"What should we put on the message Kazuma?
"Just 'seeking adventurers' or something like that. I'll let you do the rest, I know you're dumb as bricks but if you can't do this right I have no idea how you're going to get through normal life."
"At least I'm not a NEET."
Really bitch.
I left her to do the note and put it on the board... Is that a bad idea? That's a bad idea.
I went back to check what she has written, but she shouldn't show me. I knew I fucked up letting her do it.
"You don't need to see it! Y-Yeah it's fine!"
Oh no.
Part 5
I definitely made a mistake in trusting Aqua with the note. I haven't even seen it yet. But of course she gleefully posted it on the board for the whole world to see, but would block me off if I tried to look at it. What did that thing say?
It was the next day, and after sitting and waiting for 4 fucking hours, we gave up. No one was coming. After all, why would they? A useless Goddess and a weak NEET weren't exactly the most appealing group to join. But much to my surprise, some one did come. Someone who I had no idea how much they were going to mean to me.
I heard a voice coming from behind me.
"I am Megumin! And I would like to join your party!"
