Chandler heard the first notes of the piano when the song began. He looked in front, and his breath held as he waited. Then, she entered the room and time stopped. Everything stopped except for Monica, walking towards him in her slender white dress and holding the flower bouquet in her hands. He thought she couldn't be more beautiful but was proven wrong when he saw the woman with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life walking down the aisle towards him, ready to become his forever.
Monica stepped into the red carpet path, both her parents by her side. But as soon as she gave the first step, everything around her became a blur. Everything except him, Chandler, her almost-husband, who stood at the altar, looking at her with the most beautiful smile she had ever seen. She suddenly forgot how to walk and relied only on her parents' grip on her arms to make herself reach her destination.
Frozen at the moment in which Monica had entered the room, Chandler only realized that time hadn't really stopped when he felt her hand in his. Both her parents kissed Monica on the cheek, and now he hold her hand as he helped her climb the step to the altar.
"You look so beautiful," He whispered to her, still holding her hand. It was not only because of the dress or the way her beautiful dark hair fell in perfect curls down her shoulders. It was the look of pure happiness on her face.
"Thanks. You look handsome too," She responded. And It was true. Monica remembered how she had suddenly found Chandler weirdly attractive that night a few years ago. Now, she was sure he was the most handsome man she knew. The blue of his tie complimented his eyes, but it was his smile that made her want to capture the moment in her head forever.
They both stood in their respective places, Monica on the left, in front of Phoebe and Rachel, and Chandler on the right, in front of Ross. They shared another smile before Joey began to speak. But neither of them heard half of what was being said. They were looking at each other, wondering how after so many years they could still be so in love.
"Now. let's get to the vows." They both heard Joey say, and both their attentions went back to the ceremony. "Chandler you go first."
Chandler looked around, glancing at everyone in the room before he gathered the courage to declare his love for the woman in front of him in front of everyone. He then looked into her eyes, and everyone else disappeared. It was just the both of them. He gulped and then started.
"Monica, you are the most perfect woman I've ever met. You're not only beautiful on the outside but also on the inside. You've been my best friend since I can remember, and you make me happier than I thought I could ever be. Four years ago, I promised you I wouldn't ever get over you. And today, here I am, still keeping that promise, and I intend on keeping it for the rest of my life. I chose you then, and I will always choose you."
Monica had to look away from Chandler because if she kept on staring at him, she knew she would cry. Four years had passed since the day they confessed their feelings for each other, and each day she fell herself falling more in love with the man standing in front of her. She too looked down and then regained her posture, ready to speak her heart out for him.
"One day, four years ago, I started to see my best friend differently, and without notice, I fell in love with him. And the only thing I regret about it ever since is not having known back then what an amazing thing had developed between us; how we would find the love we both needed in each other. And now here we are, with our future ahead of us, and I only want to spend it with you. And I promise I will never stop loving you. I will always choose you too."
She let a tear fall out of her eye, which she quickly wiped with the back of her hand. When she felt her emotions under control, she looked back up and saw Chandler staring at her with that smile that he only reserved for her. The look in his eyes transmitted all the love he felt for her, without any defences. His heart was hers, but her heart was also his.
"Now, the rings," Joey continued the ceremony.
Rachel stepped between them with the rings and gave one to each of them. Chandler grabbed Monica's hand, placing her delicate fingers between his. Without effort, he slid the ring on her fourth finger as a promise to love her to the end of their lives.
"I love you," He murmured, looking at the silver band on her finger.
Monica did the same; she grabbed Chandler's hand, which was bigger than hers, and slid the ring on his fourth finger, promising to love him for as long as they lived. Then, as he had done, she admired the ring on his finger.
"I love you too," She whispered back to her now-husband.
"Kiss her; Kiss her!" Joey exclaimed aloud, clearly excited to witness the step his two best friends had taken together.
They didn't waste a second; It was all they both wanted to do ever since they entered the venue. Carefully, Chandler lifted the veil that covered Monica's face, and as soon as the fabric was out of the way, they both reached for each other for a kiss full of love and promises of a happy life together.
Because, after all, they had been always each other. And it would always be like that.
Final AN: Sadly we reached the end. I hope you enjoyed reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it. I also need to say that I had to copy part of Monica's vows from the show because I thought that specific part I stole was so beautiful and would be such a waste not to use here.
I will post more multi-chapter fanfics in the future, don't worry, and see you soon!
