The Xiaolin Dragon King: Chibi Tales
Chapter Two: The Trouble with Cats
Chase was sitting in a meditative position on the floor of a room inside his lair. His eyes were closed, focusing on clearing his mind. As he was doing that, one of his Jungle Cats, a tiger, wandered into the room. It stared at the Heylin warrior for a moment before going over to him. It then settled itself on his lap, curling itself up into a ball.
He opened his eyes and looked at the big cat. He grabbed it and pushed it off of him. Shaking his head, he told the tiger to not do that as he was busy. He closed his eyes and went back to meditating. However, not a second later, the Jungle Cat laid back down on his lap.
Feeling this, the Heylin warrior scowled as his eyes were still closed. He lifted the tiger off him and put it back on the floor. It was not deterred, however, and just put itself back. Again and again, he removed the creature from his lap, but it kept coming back to the same spot the moment its feet touched the floor. They kept this up for quite a bit.
After a while, Chase opened his eyes and sighed. Giving up, he allowed the tiger to finally settle on his lap without any fuss. The tiger let out a happy chuff as the male warrior petted its head.
He should lock the door next time.
Chase was mixing a bowl of Lao Mang Lone Soup when he felt something brush against his legs. Looking down, he saw one of the black panthers rubbing against him. When it was done, it leaned its front paws on the lid of the cauldron he was using. It stared at the boiling green liquid curiously for a moment, tilting its head to the side a bit. Then one of its paws moved forward.
The Heylin warrior grabbed its paw and moved it away, shaking his head. The Jungle Cat stared at him for a moment, then went to dip its body part into the Soup. Chase kept moving it away, but it just kept coming back. After a few, frustrating seconds, he decided to try another method.
Grabbing the panther by the scruff of its neck, Chase carried them to the outside of the room. Once he set it on its feet, he slammed the door. He went back to the cauldron and continued mixing in the ingredients. However, he soon heard scratching at the door and sounds of wanting to be let back in. The Heylin warrior sighed as the sounds persisted.
Sometimes, it was hard to have a moment of peace when you had a lair filled with big cats.
One of the Jungle Cats, a lion, was on the floor on its back, holding a large, round vase with its paws. It tossed it into the air multiple times, humming in contentment. Then it turned on its stomach, moving the ceramic piece of art back and forth while keeping its eyes on it. With a gentle swat, the vase was sent rolling across the floor. The big cat quickly went after it.
Chase walked by, seeing what the lion was doing, and continued on his way. A split second later, he stopped and turned around, the actions of the creature playing with a very old vase completely processing in his mind. He then saw the big cat swat the piece of art towards the wall and moved quickly.
Holding his hand out, the Heylin warrior caught the vase before it made contact with the wall. He sighed in relief as he held it. Just as he was about to scold the Jungle Cat, the lion jumped on him, its paws landing on his shoulder for balance. This caught him off guard, making the vase slip out of his hands. He could only watch as it crashed to the ground, shattering into pieces.
Chase groaned as the big cat rubbed its head against his affectionately. It was hard to have nice things.
In the living area, a panther was on top of a couch and running its sharp claws over the cushions. Nearby, a tiger was making scratch marks in the curtains. Then Chase came into the room, seeing the damage they were doing. Scowling, he pulled out a spray bottle and squinted water right in their faces. The big cats hissed, quickly scampering away.
The Heylin warrior looked at the ruined curtains and cushions, letting out a sigh. He was gonna have to get some new ones. While he was at it, he could find something to keep the Jungle Cats from making a mess of things. That's when an idea came to his mind.
He left the room, as well as the lair, and came back a few moments later, carrying a few boxes. Setting them on the floor, he opened them and pulled out what was inside. Soon, there were large cat towers and scratching posts that were fit for felines of a larger size. Satisfied, Chase turned around to present them to the Jungle Cats.
However, instead of being interested in the new toys, they were more enthralled by the boxes they came in. They jumped into them, making noises of contentment as they positioned themselves in more comfortable positions. The Heylin warrior sighed for what felt like the thousandth time of the day.
Even though you try to please your cats, they always find pleasure in the most simplest of things.
The stone entrance of the lair opened and Juno stepped inside, smiling and waving at Chase when he greeted her. The two embraced and shared a quick kiss, multiple red hearts floating in the air around them. When they pulled apart, they soon noticed that some of the Jungle Cats had gathered around.
The redhead went over to them, kneeling down and petting their heads. The big cats purred, leaning closer into her hands. A tiger placed its paws on her shoulders from behind, leaning up and placing its head on top of hers. One of the lions licked her cheek, causing her to laugh as the felines continued to swarm around her.
Chase stood to the sidelines and watched, feeling a little neglected. Part of him felt like his wife mostly came over to see his cats, while his cats were so obviously more fond of his wife than of him. He went over and pushed the felines away, pulling the female warrior to her feet and holding her close. When they let out sounds of displeasure, he scolded them for getting too cozy with the redhead.
Juno smiled and giggled, thinking it was cute that her husband was getting jealous of his own cats. She placed her hand on the side of his face and kissed his cheek.
The couple was laying on the Heylin warrior's bed, cuddling close with one another. Then one of the Jungle Cats, a tiger, came over, carrying something in its mouth. Leaning up on the side of the bed, it dropped whatever it was holding.
Upon closer look, the two saw that it was a dead rat. The feline obviously killed and brought it to show off its accomplishment. Juno and Chase stared at the dead rodent, then at the tiger, who was looking quite proud and waiting to be praised. Glancing at one another, they got the same idea and nodded.
Sitting up, the Heylin warrior petted the big cat's head, complimenting it on a job well done. While the tiger was purring happily, its eyes closed, the redhead quickly grabbed the rat and chucked it across the room. Thankfully, the one who brought it didn't notice and was too busy receiving the praise it sought.
Then the tiger jumped onto the bed and laid down, placing its head on Chase's lap. Soon, a lion and a panther joined them, the latter settling down across Juno's lap while the former got into a comfortable position in the middle.
The couple looked at one another, the female laughing a bit while the male sighed. She leaned against him while petting the large, black feline laying on her. He stared at her for a moment and gave a slight smile, placing his own head atop of hers. The warmth and gentle purr of the Jungle Cats made for a calm and domestic moment.
Cats were troublesome, but there were moments where having them was worth it.
