Blitz League HQ Press Room

New York City

Noon

It is a normal day in the city that never sleeps, the press room inside the Blitz League is full of reporters and cameramen here for the big press conference coming up any minute now. The rumor mill had been going on all week about a big announcement from the League itself, they managed to keep a tight lid on the whole thing, so nobody in attendance knew what was going on. On a stage is a podium with a mic on it and beside it, a huge screen that is connected to a computer.

Soon enough, a woman of mixed Mexican/Caucasian decent walked onto the stage, she stands five foot, six inches tall and is of slender build. She has shoulder length black hair and dark brown eyes. Like many in her industry, she is wearing a finely made suit, colored white. When she stood in front of mic, she gives a flawless smile. For Kristina Cruz-Williams, this was exciting day for her. She is head of the public relations department of Blitz League and the face of the company. In the media, she is seen as the spokeswoman for the reclusive and rarely seen Commissioner, Daniel Eckhart. Kristina cleared her throat, ready to tell the world the big news.

"Welcome esteemed members of the media, I, Kristina Cruz-Williams has some exciting news for you today. With the record-breaking profits made by the Blitz League in the last couple seasons, Commissioner Eckhart has decided that a new division will be formed," Kristina said, her smile never wavering.

A flurry of questions and camera flashes ensued but Kristina motioned for the commotion to settle. Once it calmed down, she continued.

"For the past year, the League has been in secret negations with prospective cities to start new franchises. Today, I am here to show you the new eight teams that will compose Division Four."

Kristina took a remote from the podium and walked over to the screen, standing to the side of it.

"The first three teams are cities that formally had teams that either moved or folded."

Kristina pressed a button on the remote and an image of a wild west badge in dark blue and white, the word "LAWMEN" emblazoned on the badge.

"Our first team will welcome back football to the great city of Dallas, The Lawmen!"

This got a good reaction from the crowd. The city of Dallas had been without a team since the Aztecs left for Mexico City. The Aztecs stayed there for a while but when connections between the team and dangerous drug cartels were made public, the League was forced to pull out of Mexico City. They wanted to move the team back to Dallas, but the city refused, believing the name Aztecs had become tainted. It also all but killed the career of star tight end Felix Fortain, who had been linked to the said cartel. So, it seemed fitting that Dallas start clean with a new team name.

Kristina soon showed the next team, a logo of a killer whale in blue and green showed on the screen.

"We also welcome back football to Southern California with the San Diego Orcas!"

Another round of applause came from this announcement. San Diego has always been bitter of their team moved to Cleveland to become the Steamers. The Blue and Green color scheme showed off was definitely a reference to the former team, The Cyclones.

Soon a new image showed up is a Roman soldier with a gold helmet and crimson plume on it.

"And our last team is the Columbus Centurions," Kristina said, "The City of Columbus has been without a team since the days of World War Two, and the League will bring back football to central Ohio."

This got a more mixed reception from the crowd. Ohio already had two teams, the dismal and often made fun of Steamers of Division Three and the currently resurgent Cincinnati Crusaders, which just managed to win a second Division Two championship and are now going into Division One. Why the League wanted to put a team in Ohio's state capital after decades was anybody's guess

A new image popped up on the screen, one is a predatory dinosaur in orange and red, A rotten human head in green and black, a tornado in black and gray, a predatory fish in red and white, and a rattlesnake in brown and black.

"Now on to the cities that have yet to host a franchise within our fine League. They are the Utah Raptors, the New Orleans Zombies, The Oklahoma Twisters, Hawaiian Barracudas and the Knoxville Rattlers," Kristina explained.

The head of PR soon returned to the podium and signaled that she would now take questions from the reporters.

"When will this Division be ready for play?" A male African American reporter asked.

"Barring any kind of delay on the League or the teams, I would say after the next season." Kristina answered.

"So, this new Division will be the Scrub League that Division Three used to be?" A pretty blonde female reporter said,

This comment made Kristina frown a bit. She and the others within the management of the League didn't like to use that term. It made it seem like those teams were intentional bad rather than just down on their luck, it was also dislike as it was the name of the League that was once owned by former commissioner Clive Hanson, who merged it with the League after a year's long player strike. Clive Hanson has been reviled by the League since his scandal involving L.A Riot, which including money laundering, insider trading, extortion and blatant cheating.

Kristina answered the question with the company line, which amounted to "We don't agree with that term" and went about taking more questions. After fielding a few more questions, Kristina ended the press conference and left for the day. She couldn't wait to see the buzz on both the primetime news cycle and the internet as well.

So here is my attempt at a Blitz: The League story. I want to thank Nobel Six for inspiring me to do this fic with his called Blitz the League: Comeback Captains, a great story that deserve a read.

This chapter is just an intro what I have planned, one of the teams that got a better explanation will be the protagonist of this story (Nobel Six knows because I consulted him before I wrote this chapter down)

Stayed tuned to the next chapter, where I reveal who will be the heroes of this fic, the owner and management of said team and their opening moves with the roster.
