Down In The Underground
Jareth went to his sound advisers as soon as he returned to his castle, he had to make haste. He did not want to waste any more time than needed. He went to his office, pulled the hidden lever, and walked through the secret entrance. There stood before him three cloaked figures stood in silence, waiting. He rechecked the spell that had been laid upon the place, as to avoid any snooping and refortified it. "There, we may speak freely. Anything to report before we begin?" Two of the figures nodded no. One of the figures took a step forward. "Much is happening. Your enemies have been found snooping around The Champion. We fear her life may be in more danger than expected. What is unknown is when or where she may be attacked."
Jareth nodded. "I couldn't agree more. Double the wards around her. What do your spies say? How soon can we bring her down? She must be presented properly to the underground and before the High Court." Figure one step forward. "Perhaps at the next ball. Bring her and show her what is expected of her. She needs to forge her own allies, learn control, or she will be no use to us or to herself. We can only protect her so much, but if you really want her protected, she must learn to protect herself." All nodded in agreement. Jareth looked at figure two, who remained quiet. "What says you?" The third figure finally sighed, and said quietly. "Bring her, Train her. Keep safe."
As soon as the meeting was over, Jareth went to oversee his staff, and all the arrangements that needed to be made. He had only a few days, and many meetings to prepare for. That took him most of the remainder of the night. His enemies cared not if they had rested. He needed to have a meeting with the High Queen, and quickly went to his room to summon her. After several moments waiting, she finally arrived.
Jareth stood before the high queen, He bowed slightly before her. "You know that is not necessary." She smiled at him, giving him a light peck on both cheeks. He smiled in return. "We are free to speak freely, I've made sure." She said. "Fine. Sit. Drink?" He poured them a drink as they both sat at a table, with fruits, bread and cheese laid out. "Our kingdoms are in trouble, as you may very well know, and the high king is not taking things very seriously." He began. "There are spies everywhere, and I need to act fast." Queen Tatiana took a sip of wine, "You should be careful what you say about the king, even with wards."
They both sat staring at each other. The queen sighed, looking very weary. "I only speak the truth, and just to you. Many see him laxing, too confident and that is not good. I only want to protect him, We owe him much." The queen began to laugh, "OH. So it's we? Who else is on this mission to save the king? Let me guess, your brother and cousin, You three were always into some adventure or other. But yes, much is going on. What do you propose?"
Jareth stood up, and began pacing. The High queen quietly waited. "Do you have any idea who is involved? Who is in charge of all of this?" He stopped mid pace, and took a sip of wine. "Yes, but I even fear to name her. Names do have power." She looked directly in his eyes, begging him to ask no more. "I also have no proof and my husband, though powerful, is not himself lately. We are appearing very weak before the council, and there are things happening that even I am being kept from. Our allies fear we are not strong enough."
"The Champion will be enough to sway any doubters, but I need your help. She has so much power in her, and not the knowledge on how to fully access it or control it. She needs to be taught, as well as hot to carry herself in court. Will you help?" The queen nodded.
"How long has she been with power?" Jareth began pacing again. "I have known she has had her own power, since before her run. But after her win, The Labyrinth began giving her more and more. Then she began telling stories of the underground, and with each wished away that came because of her, she received more power. I have given her gifts over the years to assist her, but it has not been enough.I will help, but are you sure it will be enough?" He began pacing again.
In mid pace, the queen grabbed his hand. "I will help. Let me prepare for my arrival, I suggest you do the same." With that he watched her fade. "Tell no one of her arrival" He added, knowing she would hear and honor his request.
