Sinking Sunlight

---------------------

It was all she could do to not wail out in sadness as she watched her twolegs take her kits away. The pain was unbearable and the hate unlimited. She never liked twolegs. But there was nothing she could do. She was stuck here.

At least Cloudkit was safe. Yes. With Fireheart in his Clan. She purred. Yes, she did worry about her son constantly, but at least he wasn't going to grow up a kittypet, as Fireheart called it. But, the purr was cut short, as the door slammed. Her kits were gone forever.

With a muffled mew, she slipped through her door and into the outside air. She shivered slightly. It was a bit chilly, considering winter was on it's way. But that didn't bother her. The thought of never seeing her kits again...That's what bothered her. She sighed as she padded over to the gate. She stared at the top hopefully. Would Fireheart visit today? But, she didn't hear his famliar greeting, so she leaped to the top.

She sat upon the gate, curling her tail over her front paws neatly. Where would he be? She sat there, waiting a few long moments before she sighed and stood on the gate. Finding her balance, the she-cat padded across the top of the gate, her white paws making soft thuds under her as she sped up slightly, feeling a bit reckless. She stopped in front of a white house not many houses down from her own and shifted her weight to sit.

But, that shift caused her to lose her balance. She cried out in surprise when her feet gave way to air and she fell from the fence, pushing her claws into the wood to steady herself and she perilously hung from the gate. Just as her claws shifted down, and she was about to let go and fall, there was a meow of greeting above her, and a gentle paw was placed upon her own. The tom cat over her purred and helped her to the top of the gate. She meowed her thanks and after a moment of silence, pressed against him.

"They took them away," she meowed, her voice slightly shaky. "They took our kits away." The black face of the tom softened and he licked her on the head. There would be no more litters of kitten for them.

"I'm sorry," he meowed, pressing his muzzle into her shoulder. "I wish we could have more..." She turned around to face him, her eyes soft with love and affection.

"That's okay..." she meowed, licking his cheek gently. "Cloudkit is out there somewhere." Changing the subject, she looked out over the fence, her head on the toms shoulder. "He'll make a great wildcat, you'll see." The tom nodded, but doubt was in his eyes. Sensing this, the she-cat turned toward him, her eyes soft with amusement and challenge. "What? You don't think so?"

"How would he feel, having housecat roots and being a wildcat?" the tom gruffed softly, his eyes hard with thought. He shook his head. "I don't think they'll --" The she-cat flicked her tail over the toms mouth, and he quietened.

"Remember, Fireheart had housecat roots too," the she-cat warned, blinking. There was silence and the two cats watched as the sun above them slowly sunk, not moving away. Pain struck the she-cat in the chest. She wanted another litter of kittens. But, Princess knew she would never find another cat she loved as much as Smudge. She purred as he pressed his muzzle in her shoulder and licked her.

"I love you, Smudge," Princess muttered, licking him along the cheek.

"I love you too, Princess."

---End of Chapter---

Yes, I know. Weird. And thrown together quite quickly. This is a pairing we came up with on my rp site, and I decided I liked it. Soon, there may be a story on Smudge as he comes into the clan as ... well, you'll find out!

Oh, and some of you are probably questioning their kits. Well, take it from my view. She was having them before he was fixed. Understand? Good. lol. Anyway, hope you enjoyed it!
