Chapter 239: Chicago
Tuesday, January 24th, Evening
The wind blew by as it always did in the winter. Kay laid on the sofa with her back supported by a pillow. She slowly opened and closed her right hand; there was a stress ball in her hand. Tomorrow, early tomorrow, she and Ivy will fly to Tree Hill. Something that she wasn't looking forward to; she didn't want to face the past.
Kay could hear the shower running through the wall. With a sigh, Kay leaned back and looked to the two bags sitting near the door. Kay looked back to the window and saw part of the South Loop area of Chicago splayed out before her. It was a view Kay had gotten to enjoy.
The shower stopped, and Kay nodded. She kept squeezing the stress ball. After a few minutes passed by, Kay heard the bathroom door open. Kay looked over to the area of the apartment. Coming from the bathroom and into Kay's vision was Ivy Kowalski, drying her dark hair with a towel, and wearing a short dark green silk robe trimmed with lace. Kay smiled as she watched Ivy.
"Are you undressing me with your eyes?" Ivy asked.
"Maybe," Kay said.
"Maybe means, yes," Ivy said.
"Sometimes maybe, just means maybe," Kay said.
"Maybe, is just someone who doesn't want to commit," Ivy said.
"You have a good point," Kay said.
"I always do," Ivy said and gave Kay a look.
Kay laughed, Ivy returned the laugh. Kay tilted her head back. "You could drop the robe and put a bigger smile on my face," she said.
"Later, move over and cuddle with me," Ivy said.
Kay paused for a moment and then started to adjust herself on the sofa. Ivy finished drying her hair and hung the towel over the back of a chair. Ivy made her way over to the sofa. Kay flipped the blanket that she covered herself with off to let Ivy climb in.
Ivy carefully slipped into place next to Kay on the sofa. Kay covered them with the blanket. There was some shifting for them to get comfortable. Kay reached out with her right arm and kept squeezing the stress ball. Ivy reached out and gently stroked Kay's arm.
"Arm is bothering you?" Ivy asked.
"No," Kay said, with a shake of her hand.
"What's with the stress ball?" Ivy asked.
"I'm stressed," Kay said.
"You don't like to fly?" Ivy asked.
"It's not that," Kay said.
"Is it me coming with you?" Ivy asked.
"No," Kay said.
"Then what is it?" Ivy asked.
"Just some BS that happened last time I was home," Kay said.
"Does this have anything to do with those bad emails?" Ivy asked.
"Yes," Kay said.
"Okay, so what's this all about? Tell me, Kochanie," Ivy said.
"It's when my shoulder got injured, a car accident," Kay said.
"So, tell me about it," Ivy said.
"I was out with my girlfriend at the time; we were having trouble at the time. We were both in Tree Hill at the time, so we went out to try to smooth things over. My girlfriend was a bit wild and just kept drinking. I was drunk myself, and we got into her car. On the way back to her home, she got into an accident. That's how my shoulder got messed up," Kay said.
Ivy nodded, "Is that what happened?" she asked.
"What I was told and what I can remember," Kay said.
"Hun?" Ivy asked.
"I was badly concussed," Kay said.
Ivy nodded, "So, this is about the accident?" she asked.
"That was the beginning," Kay said.
"Okay?" Ivy asked.
"Her family blamed me for everything," Kay said.
"How could you be at fault?" Ivy asked.
"I'm not sure," Kay said, "Other than I went out with their daughter, and we were out together that night."
"Sounds like they are in denial," Ivy said.
"I think it's mostly her mom. Her dad kind of doesn't know where he is most of the time," Kay said.
Ivy nodded and moved closer to Kay. "Kochanie, don't worry about it, by what you told me did nothing wrong," she said.
"I think their issue is I should have stayed loyal to their daughter," Kay said.
"Why? You seemed to be having issues and were drifting apart; I bet the rehab and accident didn't help," Ivy said.
"I don't know," Kay said.
"Just take it as what it is," Ivy said, "I'll be there to support you if they cause problems."
"Thanks," Kay said.
"Well, Kochanie, we're flying out tomorrow, and I'd rather sleep on a happy note," Ivy said.
"Okay," Kay said and nodded.
Ivy pulled the tray with the computer closer to them. She started to work on the computer. "So, what do you want to watch?" Ivy asked.
"How about the Last Dance," Kay said.
"Not again," Ivy said.
"I like it," Kay said.
"So, do I, but how about a RomCom?" Ivy asked.
Kay sighed, "Sure," she said.
Ivy nodded, "Michael Jordan's from where you are from," she said.
"Yeah, he's from the same county and same school district," Kay said.
"So, you played in his gym?" Ivy asked.
"Well, it's not his gym," Kay said.
"You know what I mean," Ivy said.
"But, yes, the gym he played in when he was in high school," Kay said.
"Still, you played in the same gym as MJ," Ivy said.
Kay tried to shrug, "I guess," she said.
"I'd like to see his gym," Ivy said.
"We'll have to see," Kay said.
"Fair enough," Ivy said.
"Why weren't you freaked out about what I told you?" Kay asked.
"Kay, we're not children; we both have pasts and the baggage that comes with it. What's more important is us and our relationship," Ivy said.
"How could you not be worried about my ex's?" Kay asked.
"Ex's are ex's for a reason," Ivy said.
Kay said, "It makes sense," she said.
"I found something to watch," Ivy said.
"So, Netflix and chill?" Kay asked.
"If you're lucky," Ivy said, teasing.
Kay laughed and met Ivy's lips as they turned their heads to face each other. After their kiss, they turned back to the computer and watched a movie on Netflix.
