I arrived on the outskirts of Whiterun a couple of hours after departing Riverwood. The plains surrounding Whiterun were covered in farmland as far as the eye could see, fertile stocks of wheat, barley, and other grains shot up out of the ground all around me. I gazed up at the sun, it was still around mid-day, so I decided to stop for a while and rested on a tree stump.
Pulling out the pack Hod had packed me I began pulling out pieces of food. Some salted salmon, half a loaf of freshly baked bread, and a bottle of Juniper berry ale. As I began to chow down on my makeshift meal a slight rumbling reached my ears. I set down the ale I was currently nursing and stood up to get a good look around. Everything appeared normal, farmers tending to their crops, farm animals milled about, hell even a Khajiit caravan rolled past me on their way to Whiterun.
Well, I guess it was nothing, I thought absentmindedly as I sat down. Picking up my bottle of ale I began to drink the surprisingly sweet drink when I heard it again, albeit this time much closer—the sound of rumbling, kind of like a giant stomping around.
Wait isn't this where I first meet the compa-
"Look out you big oaf!" I was ripped out of my thoughts as I heard a woman shout. I turned around just in time to see a man with dark hair clad in steel armor crash down into the ground 20 feet away from me.
I rushed to him, helping the muscled man to his feet. "Holy shit that looked like it hurt, where did you fly in from?" I said as he picked up a massive steel greatsword from the ground, he glanced at me and grunted, "Hn, giant, Got to go kill it," He looked over towards a hill where I could hear the heated sounds of battle.
"Mind if I tag along? Was getting a little bored sitting there twiddling thumbs," He looked back at me, a hint of a smirk on his face, "Sure thing, try not to get squashed like a bug." He started to run back, towards the direction of the giant.
I sighed, "Real piece of work buddy, alright wait for me," Another grunt was the only answer I received. We made our way up the hill, when we got to the top I looked down the other side. There a giant, the size of a small house was battling against four other people, presumably the companions.
"Holy shit look at the size of that thing," I muttered in a small voice, I had never seen anything like it in the real world. It was a giant, grey-skinned humanoid creature; wielding a club the size of myself. When it swung its weapon the earth rumbled and the ground split open.
The man gave me a confused look, "what you've never seen a baby giant before? Pfft, Milk-Drinker," He mocked before running down the hill to join the other warriors in battle.
I readied my axe and charged down into the fray. "Hey! You! Why don't you pick on someone your own size, Huh?"
The giant looked down at me and grunted before swinging its massive club down at me. I dove out of the way in the nick of time as the club came down where I had just been standing. I quickly jumped up and lodged my axe right into the beast's knee. It roared in pain began swinging the club wildly nearly sending me to the stratosphere in the process.
The giant lifted the club above its head and slammed it down into the earth right in front of me, shooting debris everywhere and throwing me backward. As I lay on the ground the giant sauntered up to me and raised its club for the killing blow. The giant raised its club over its head, and two steel-tipped arrows plunged into its eye sockets. It staggered back in pain, giving off a rumbling roar. The man from earlier appeared behind it, swinging his massive greatsword into the beast's good knee. The giant fell to the ground as another warrior appeared, a Redguard with a simple steel sword, and plunged it into the giant's throat.
"Huh, your not that bad, Ever thought about joining the Companions? We could always use more shield brothers." Came a voice from behind me.
