Just a quick drabble to try and shed my writer's block. Set in Harvest Moon DS.

It was a gorgeous Spring afternoon, with the sky a vibrant blue streaked with white clouds that embraced the shining sun. The dew had fallen but the flowers still seemed to shimmer, and there was a bird singing in every tree. Days like this seemed to lift everyone's mood.
Of course, Flora didn't really notice - the bright sunlight shone in through the opening of the excavation site, but she was too engrossed in her thoughts to care. She carefully dusted off something buried in the ground, not wanting to get overzealous and accidentally crack it in half with a shovel if it happened to be something important, like an ancient tablet, or even a fossil... She smiled to herself at the thought, a smile that quickly faded as she saw what it was. Yet another silly piece of costume jewelry, with dirt encrusted around the gems. She stuffed it into a bag labeled "junk" to throw out later and resumed digging with a sigh, strands of golden hair falling into her face.
She let her thoughts wander a bit as she threw a shovelful of dirt over her shoulder, her previous sentiments about being careful now tainted with rare cynicism. It had been half a year since they'd found anything other than the standard ore and random jewelry, and part of her was starting to lose hope that the excavation site was even worth anything. She had no idea why, exactly, she kept finding so much cheap costume jewelry buried in what was supposed to be an archaeological area. She had began to assume it was Carter's not-so-subtle way of trying to hit on her, which Flora had no idea how to deal with.
She slammed the shovel into the dirt and hit something hard and solid, pausing to look down and adjust her glasses, but didn't have much time to excavate what she had found as she heard footsteps behind her. She turned, expecting to see Carter back from doing errands, but was surprised to see Jack standing there, looking considerably shy, his hands behind his back. "Oh, it's you." She mumbled, paying his awkward demeanor no mind and turning back to her new discovery. "Are you here to help with the excavation?" She asked, throwing dirt aside with her shovel as she tried to unearth whatever it was she had found.
"W... well... uh..." Jack stammered, looking to the side.
"Or are you here to see Carter? He's out on errands." She said, getting on her knees and taking out a smaller shovel.
"Well... the thing is... I..."
Flora looked up at the stuttering farmer expectantly. "What is it?"
"Here!" He said, throwing something onto the ground and hurriedly running out of the excavation site. Flora blinked and turned her head to see what Jack had thrown, curious purple eyes widening slightly as she did so - on top of the fossil she had just uncovered laid a single moondrop flower.
She gently picked it up, twirling it between two gloved fingers as she stared at the bright yellow petals. I'll never understand boys. She thought, placing the flower in her pocket.
