Chapter 249 Barclay's Center
Wednesday, January 25th, Evening
The evening started with a quick meal at a food truck, followed by a subway ride to Brooklyn. They walked a few blocks to the Barclay's Center. After a stop at will call and collecting their tickets, they got in line. They went inside the arena and found their seats.
Trin looked over to see Wyatt as they settled into their seats. Wyatt looked back, nodded, and turned to the court. Trin slid off her jacket and tucked it behind her; Wyatt unzipped his coat to show a bit his Miami Heat number twelve jersey, but not most of it.
"Do we get to see Uncle James after the game?" Wyatt asked.
Trin sighed, "Hopefully, for a few minutes," she said.
Wyatt nodded, "Yeah," he said.
"You know that he always tries to see you when he comes to New York," Trin said.
Wyatt nodded, "How much is Uncle James like my Dad?" he asked.
"Well," Trin said, "They're brothers."
"Lennon and I are brothers, and we're different," Wyatt said.
"That's true, just like I'm different from Auntie Chase and Auntie Izzy," Trin said.
Wyatt nodded but didn't say anything more. The game started with the usual events; they announced the starting lineup for the Nets. Soon the game started.
Trin watched the game; to her, it's just another basketball game. She's seen many games; this game is only one of the many. Quite a few of those games had James Scott playing in them. Trin never was one for sporting events, but until college Trin was a cheerleader, so she went to many games.
Looking over to Wyatt, he was paying attention to the game half-heartedly. He had a pen in his hand, and he was sketching on the program they were handed out as they entered the arena. Trin noticed that Wyatt would look up and watch his uncle on the court.
Turning back to the game, Trin watched as James went to the bench to rest.
Trin pulled out her smartphone and sent a text message to Zav.
Trin: How's it going?
Zav: Fine, how about you?
Trin: Okay, out with my son at a basketball game.
Zav: Nice, who's playing?
Trin: Nets versus the Heat.
Zav: Out in Brooklyn?
Trin: Yes.
Zav: Why?
Trin: Free tickets.
Zav: Never pictured you as a basketball fan.
Trin: Not really, I do enjoy hockey, but I tolerate basketball.
Zav: So, that's why you're texting me.
Trin: Sure.
Zav: So, what's up?
Trin: I'm heading out of town next week.
Zav: Enjoy your vacation.
Trin: Thanks, but I was wondering, what are you doing tomorrow night?
Zav: I don't think much. Why?
Trin: Want to get drinks tomorrow night?
Zav: Sure, where?
"Mom, are you texting?" Wyatt asked.
"Yes," Trin said.
"You're missing the game," Wyatt said.
"Sorry," Trin said.
Trin: G2G, son, caught me texting, will send you the details.
Zav: K
Trin watched the game for a while. When half time came alone, Trin and Wyatt went to the restroom. While Trin waited online, she pulled out her smartphone.
Trin: Clair, can you watch Wyatt tomorrow night, possibly overnight.
Clair: Trinity, sure we can. Do you have to work late?
Trin: Not exactly.
Clair: Girl's night, as you Americans say.
Trin: Nope.
Clair: Trinity, are you meeting the app guy? Good for you.
Trin: Thank you, Clair.
Clair: You're welcome, Trinity.
After Trin used the restroom, she and Wyatt returned to their seat. The second half started, and Trin tried to enjoy the game.
Wyatt engaged, but Trin only suspected because his uncle was on the court. Trin and Wyatt weren't strangers to the Barclay's as Trin would take Wyatt and Jess to watch Angela's games, and sometimes games would include Kay playing.
Trin noted of the two cousins. Angela was Wyatt's granddad's cousin making Jess some form of a cousin. Jess is engaged in the basketball games as she was trying to learn the game. Wyatt was on and off; usually, only when a Scott was on the court did he engage.
The game ended, as all games eventual do end. Miami came into the Barclay's Center and barely squeaked by Brooklyn with a score of 109-106. James Scott leads Miami with assists and blocked shots, nine of each.
With practiced ease, Trin and Wyatt worked their way through the crowd to a particular area. Trin produced two passes that came with the tickets, and security let in. They waited outside a dressing room door.
Several Net's players passed by most paid them no heed. One or two said hi, and only because they or their significant other had done business with Trin's mom. So, in her role as VP for New York Operations, Trin had some interactions with them. One or two also said hi because they were polite.
Finally, James came out of the dressing room. He looked them over, and kind of smiled, then shook his head.
"I fly all the way to New York, and I don't get recognized at all, even by my own nephew," James said.
Wyatt turned to see James; his face exploded in joy. "Uncle James," Wyatt said, ran over to James, and hugged him.
"How have you been, Buddy?" James asked.
"I've been good," Wyatt said as they separated.
James walked over to Trin. They hugged and kissed each other on the cheek. "How have you been, Trin?" James asked.
As they separated, "Can't complain, doesn't do any good anyway, since no one cares," Trin said.
James chuckled, "That's good to hear," he said, and looked to Wyatt, "Have you been good for your mom?"
"Of course, Uncle James," Wyatt said.
James turned to Trin for confirmation. "He's a dream," Trin said.
James smiled, "That's good to hear," he said.
"Are you able to go out with us tonight?" Wyatt asked.
James shook his head, "I'm sorry, Buddy, they want to get going to Chicago tonight," he said.
Wyatt's face was downturned, "I wish I could, though," James said.
Wyatt nodded. Trin looked at James, "That sucks," she said.
"Yeah, it does; work is work. Also, I don't get to see him that often," James said.
"Will you get to see Kay in Chicago?" Trin asked.
James shook his head, "No, she turned down the offer for the tickets. I guess she was returning home," James said, "For that honor thing, Ashlyn told me about."
Trin nodded, "She has a lot of unfinished business there," she said.
"That she does," James said, and turned to Wyatt, "I've got to go, Buddy, can I get another hug."
Wyatt nodded and hugged James. "Bye, Uncle James," he said.
"Cheer up! I'll be back in February, and I'll get a little more time then," James said.
"Promise?" Wyatt asked.
"I promise," James said; they separated, and James said his goodbyes. Once finished, he returned to the dressing room.
Trin nodded, collected Wyatt, and headed out. It was a quiet subway ride back to Manhattan. During the trip, Trin was able to, when she had service, send Zav the details for their "date" tomorrow night. The night ended with Trin putting Wyatt to bed. Eventually, Trin even dragged herself to bed.
