Chapter 263: Greenwich Village
Friday, January 27th, Evening
The lights were on across the whole of Greenwich Village, staring out of the front window of her townhouse. These are the moments that made her love New York City and Greenwich Village in particular. Fallon watched the bits and pieces move about; everyone is a person, a story, and a part of the whole that made everything better.
Turning away from the window, Fallon gazed upon her bed. As much as Fallon loved New York City, she hated packing. Some people in her position would have a staff, and they would take care of her. Fallon chose not to have a formal staff, except for a cleaner that came in a few days during the week. Fallon chose this frugal way of living because she wanted to escape all the trappings and be as normal as possible.
Fallon walked over to her bed and looked at the clothes. After moving a few things from one pile to another, she carefully selected everything she needed and wanted to bring with her. Slowly, she packed her suitcase and garment bag and carefully brought them to the elevator. Fallon sent it down to the parlor floor and walked down the stairs to meet them. Retrieving them from the elevator car, she brought them to the foyer for her Uber tomorrow.
Fallon returned to her room and the window. Watching the streets, she felt the surge of pride in living in such a dynamic place. When she brought this townhouse back in college, it was just because it was close to NYU. Over the years of her residence, she learned to love Greenwich Village and put down roots here.
Most of Fallon's peers lived uptown, or at least had residence uptown, not her. She kept her two Long Island Estates, but upon graduating university, she sorted through all her personal property and residences and liquidated most of them. Every year that passed, the Tree Hill Estate got closer to being liquidated, accepted for Keni, and what she wanted to do with her life.
Fallon knew that, more than likely, Beaulieu wouldn't go to Keni, but the speculation was either Trin or Tucker would take over Beaulieu. Then again, Brooke could just sell it. Chase's establishment came to her through her trust and her husband's family, and she didn't wish to take over Beaulieu. Izzy seemed inline to have Leighton as her establishment. In a modern Federated Republic based on democratic principles, Izzy couldn't or shouldn't have a place that made her look like an aristocrat.
Fallon's smartphone buzzed, and she picked it up and smiled. With a deep breath, she answered it.
"Hello Keni," Fallon said.
"Fallon, are you excited?" Keni asked.
"About what?" Fallon asked.
"Returning home? Seeing me?" Keni asked.
"I'm always happy to see you, Keni, even if you insist most of the people who work for me are reptilians or under their influence," Fallon said.
"Well, they are," Keni said.
"You know someday they will work for you," Fallon said.
"Hopefully, not too soon; I have to crack a few things first," Keni said.
"Like what, Little Sis?" Fallon asked.
"Camp Hero," Keni said.
"What about it?" Fallon asked.
"Why it still exists, and what goes on there?" Keni asked.
"The Baymen," Fallon said.
"The what?" Keni asked.
"The Baymen are the reason the radar tower still stands," Fallon said.
"That's crazy," Keni replied.
"They use it for visual navigation," Fallon said.
"What about the lighthouse?" Keni asked.
"The radar tower is easier to see from the Atlantic, Keni," Fallon said.
"How do you explain the antenna still turns?" Keni asked.
"They left it unlocked to turn in the wind since it's a big sail, and with the storms, it could blow it over and destroy it and the area around it," Fallon said.
"Whatever," Keni said.
"Did you just whatever me?" Fallon asked.
"So, are we going to do our usual sister's night?" Keni asked.
"Of course, Keni, you know I make the time for you always," Fallon said.
"Great, what do you want to do?" Keni asked.
"I don't know; you're old enough, you plan the night," Fallon said.
"I can do that," Keni said.
"I trust you, and I'm in your hands, Kendall," Fallon said.
"Why did Mom name me Kendall?" Keni asked.
"It was our grand mom's name, and I thought Dad would like it," Fallon said.
"Okay," Keni said, "I was just wondering since it didn't lineup with other names."
"On the Davis side, maybe," Fallon said, "Then again, there's no rhyme or reason."
"Where did Chase, Izzy, and Trin get their names?" Keni asked.
"Chastity is a pun; Isabella is named for Aunt Peyton, and Trinity because she's the third," Fallon said.
"How is Izzy named after Aunt Peyton?" Keni asked.
"Her name is Isabella Peyton, just Aunt Peyton's name's reversed," Fallon said.
"How do Isabella and Elizabeth relate?" Keni asked.
"The same name, different language," Fallon said.
"Oh, okay," Keni said.
"So, how were the games?" Fallon asked.
"The usual," Keni said.
"Yeah, I understand," Fallon said.
"How are you coming in?" Keni asked.
"I'm using my charter jet," Fallon said.
"The Fallon Express," Keni said, laughing.
"That's not funny, Keni," Fallon said, "And one day, it will be the Kendall Express."
"It's true, Fal," Keni said, "And hopefully not too soon."
"I don't know why we even charter that damn thing anymore," Fallon said.
"for you to come and see me," Keni said, teasing.
"Of course, we keep a charter aircraft on retainer, so I fly south to visit you, and don't get too full of yourself," Fallon said.
"I won't," Keni said, laughing.
"Well, I have to go to bed, early morning tomorrow," Fallon said.
"Okay, see you tomorrow," Keni said.
"See you tomorrow," Fallon said and hung up. She looked out the window at Greenwich Village. She smiled, nodded, and turned away to head to bed.
