Chapter 266: Angela's Arrival

Saturday, January 28th, Morning

The aircraft landed on the runway and taxied to the terminal. As the passengers disembarked, she pulled out her rolling suitcase and followed by the rest of her party. Once they reached the gate and headed out of the terminal.

Eventually, Angela reached the baggage claims. Looking across the area and the carousel, she saw Lucas standing there holding a cardboard sign which read "Scott." She smiled and walked over to him, removing her Chasity Davis Specials sunglasses.

"Hey, Sis," Lucas said.

"Lucas," Angela said and smiled, "How have you been?"

"Can't complain," Lucas said.

"Uncle Lucas," Jess said as she came over. Lucas and Jess hugged. Lucas held out an arm, and Angela joined in a group hug.

"How have you been, Jess?" Lucas said.

"I've been good, Uncle Lucas," Jess said.

"So, you came by yourself, Luke?" Angela asked.

Lucas nodded, "Yeah," he said, "Where's Mom and Andy?"

"They're coming," Angela said.

"Baby Boy!" Karen said, came over to him and hugged him. Lucas hugged her back.

"Mom," Lucas said.

"How are you feeling?" Karen asked.

"That's complex," Lucas said as they broke apart.

"What does that mean?" Karen asked.

"I'll explain later," Lucas said.

Karen nodded, "Okay," she said.

"Lucas, how are you doing?" Andy asked in greeting as he came over, offering his hand.

Lucas shook his hand, "I'm doing alright," he said.

"So, are you the only one here to pick us up?" Andy asked.

Lucas nodded, "Yeah, but you're not the only ones I'm meeting," he said.

"Oh yeah? Who else is coming in?" Angela asked.

"I'm meeting Candi and Trin here," Lucas said.

"Candi's coming to town?" Karen asked.

Lucas nodded, "Yes, later today," he said, and looked at his watch, "A few hours in fact."

"Great, I get to see all my granddaughters," Karen said, "But you're getting Trin as well?"

"Yeah, since I was coming here for you and Candi," Lucas said.

"It's still great that I get to see all my granddaughters," Karen said.

"Calm down, Kare," Andy said.

"Is she bringing anyone?" Karen asked.

"A few doctor friends, from my understanding," Lucas said.

Karen smiled a bit more, "Good, good," she said.

Lucas sighed, "So, did you check any bags?" he asked.

Andy nodded, "Yeah, we did," he said.

"Let's go get them," Lucas said, as they started to head over to the carousel with their flight number illuminated over it.

"Are you still driving that old SUV of yours?" Angela asked.

"Angela, that's not polite," Karen said, correctly her daughter to Jess's delight.

"It's an important question, Mom," Angela said.

"It's still not polite," Karen said.

"Mom, it's fine," Lucas said, "Yes, Angela, I'm still driving the same SUV."

"Did you drive it here?" Angela asked.

"Angela Marie," Karen said.

"Mom," Angela said.

"Yes, I did, Angela," Lucas said.

"So, how are all of us, Candi and her friends, plus all the bags fitting into your SUV?" Angela asked.

"I'm also meeting Trin, and Fallon is coming in with her," Lucas said, matter-of-factly, reminding them.

"With that many, you might've well rented a party bus," Angela said.

"Angela," Karen snapped. Jess was smiling, enjoying watching the exchange between her mom and uncle. Also, Jess enjoyed watching her grandma go all motherly on her mom brought a bit of joy to her.

"That's been taken care of," Lucas said.

"How so? Angela does raise a good question," Andy said.

"It's handled," Lucas said as they stood waiting for their bags, "Do you see your bags?"

"Yeah, here come a few," Andy said.

Lucas went and retrieved the bags. It took him a few trips, but he managed to get it done. Once he finished and caught his breath, he pulled out his smartphone and sent a text.

"Come, let's have a seat and rest," Lucas said.

"Why don't we just head to your car, Uncle Luke?" Jess asked.

"Because we're waiting for Candi," Angela said.

Karen looked at Lucas. "Lucas, are you feeling alright?" she asked.

Lucas shook his head slightly, "Not really," he said, in a hushed voice.

"What's wrong?" Karen asked.

"Nothing I want to share in public," Lucas said.

"Okay, we'll talk about it when we get to Beaulieu," Karen said.

Lucas patted his mom's hand, "We'll talk, but first, I need to talk to Candi about it first," he said.

"What can you tell your daughter first, but not your mom?" Karen asked.

"I just need Candi's expert opinion," Lucas said.

Karen nodded, more concerned now than before they had their brief exchange.

"So, what are we waiting for?" Jess asked.

"Patience, Jess," Lucas said.

"You sound like Grandma, Uncle Luke," Jess said.

"Where do you think he gets it from?" Karen asked.

"Or your Mom?" Andy added.

Lucas smiled, "You're turning out the same way," he said to his niece.

Jess shook her head, "God, I hope not," she said.

"Jess! Watch your language," Angela said.

"Mom, you swear," Jess replied.

"That's not the point," Angela said.

"It's called do as I say, not as I do," Andy said.

"That doesn't seem fair," Jess said.

Andy shrugged, "You know, you're right," he said.

Lucas' smartphone buzzed, he checked his text messages. After that, he stood up and looked out the windows.

"Your ride is here," Lucas said and started to collect their bag.

"Our ride?" Karen asked.

"Yes, your ride," Lucas said and led them out to the waiting limo; the driver met them and started to collect their bags.

"A limo?" Jess asked.

"A Beaulieu Limo," Angela said.

"Yup, Brooke thought of everything," Lucas said.

"That she did," Karen said.

After loading up their stuff and they were situated, Lucas waved bye to them as the limo pulled away. One out of the three pickups handled.
