Chapter 279: Jamlyn

Monday, January 30th, Evening

The door opened, and Izzy found herself looking into the eyes of Ashlyn Pierce-Scott. Ashlyn, in some distant way, is family. Izzy and Ashlyn's husbands are cousins. The taller woman, Ashlyn, looked at Izzy with cold interest.

"Izzy, why did you come all the way out here?" Ashlyn asked.

"Simple, I'm kidnapping you," Izzy said.

"Why?" Ashlyn asked.

"Well, Trin and I are going out for drinks and want you to join us," Izzy said.

Ashlyn laughed, "Right," she said.

"C'mon Ash; you need a break," Izzy said.

"What is the representative from North Carolina going to do if I don't come?" Ashlyn asked.

Usually, Izzy could intimidate someone into going along. Izzy is well versed in Krav Magh and could take someone Ashlyn's size down easily. The issue here is Ashlyn's as well trained as Izzy. Ashlyn is also known for her aggressive streak.

"Make you an offer you can't refuse?" Izzy asked.

"Right, you've spent too much time in Washington," Ashlyn said.

"As I said, you need a night out," Izzy said.

"Right, is this one of those Adams spur of the moment things?" Ashlyn asked.

"That's Trin for you," Izzy said.

"You know I have a full workday, game, and that stupid ceremony tomorrow," Ashlyn said.

"I have a full day in the office tomorrow as well," Izzy said.

"You're aware of this, then why are you going along with Trin's harebrained scheme?" Ashlyn asked.

"There's more than drinks, Ash," Izzy said.

"Right, what could that be?" Ashlyn asked.

"I'm not supposed to tell you until we get there," Izzy said.

"Right, what is with all the secrecy?" Ashlyn asked.

"I don't know; it's just Trin's way," Izzy said.

"Well, I can't, Brett is at her dad's, and I sent Eilish home hours ago," Ashlyn said.

"I've taken care of that," Izzy said.

"How did you pull that off?" Ashlyn asked.

As Izzy was about to open her mouth, Ashlyn held up a hand. "Never mind, I've known you and your sisters long enough," Ashlyn said.

"Good, I don't feel like recapping those negotiations," Izzy said.

"With who?" Ashlyn asked, curious now.

"Many people," Izzy said.

"So, who is watching my kids if I do this craziness?" Ashlyn asked.

"I have crack people," Izzy said and signaled behind her.

Ashlyn looked off into the drive and saw two people come out of the terminator; that divided the light and darkness. Upon seeing the two people, Ashlyn shook her head.

"These are your crack people? Sawyer and Keni?" Ashlyn asked.

"Gee, thanks," Sawyer said.

"For the record, I'm opposed to this," Keni said.

"At least someone has sense in your family, Keni," Ashlyn said, "Why did you go along with this, Sawyer?"

"Izzy is paying well," Sawyer said.

Ashlyn huffed, "Fine; I'll go. Go inside; the kids are in the gym," she said.

"Thank you," Sawyer said.

"Thanks," Keni said, and they passed by Ashlyn.

"It's cute how they don't know what to call you," Izzy said.

"You've spent too much time in Washington," Ashlyn said.

"What do you mean?" Izzy asked.

"You bribed your sister and sister-in-law to watch my kids," Ashlyn said.

"I made them a deal, and I had to close that deal," Izzy said.

"We can't be out that late tonight, for reasons I've said before," Ashlyn said.

"We're not going to be out that long," Izzy said.

"Well, come in. I have to change," Ashlyn said.

"Grab your coat; you look fine," Izzy said.

Ashlyn shook her head, "Knowing you and your sister; I'm very underdressed," Ashlyn said.

"Not tonight, you're fine," Izzy said.

Ashlyn canted her head, "Where are we going?" she asked.

"Rerun's place," Izzy said.

"Rerun's and not TRIC?" Ashlyn asked.

"Trin's idea," Izzy said.

Ashlyn took a jacket off the hook, stepped outside of the house, slipped on the coat, and looked at Izzy. "Trin's idea and not going to TRIC, now I'm not too sure about this fool's errand," she said.

"That makes the two of us," Izzy said.

"Then why are you doing this?" Ashlyn said and closed the door behind her.

"If I let Trin do this un-shepherded, it will probably be far worse than it will be," Izzy said.

"What are we doing? Is this because Jessalyn returned?" Ashlyn asked.

"It has nothing to do with Jessalyn and something completely different," Izzy said, checked her watch, "Let's walk and talk."

"Okay," Ashlyn said, and they started to head off, "You're not worried about Jessalyn?"

"Jessalyn, maybe, but I've talked to people that know people," Izzy said.

"You're not going to have her bumped off?" Ashlyn asked.

"Not yet," Izzy said and laughed, "How much power do you think I have?"

"I was thinking more you'll have John do something to make it happen," Ashlyn said.

"Nah! I figure Angela would call in a favor or two," Izzy said.

"From some of Church's old teammates?" Ashlyn asked.

"DEV Group wouldn't do it," Izzy said and chuckled as they came to a car.

"When did you get this car?" Ashlyn asked.

Izzy looked at the Mercedes-Maybach GLS600. "This? My Mom keeps it around like a loner for guests," Izzy said.

"That's an expensive loaner," Ashlyn said.

"That's My Mom," Izzy said and climbed behind the wheel.

"That's one way of putting it," Ashlyn said and got into the SUV. Izzy started the car and drove off.
