Chapter 284: The Reason
Monday, January 30th, Evening
Trin took a long sip of her beer and put it down on the table. She tapped her fingers on the table. She looked at the other three women at the table and took a deep breath. Trin had to steel herself to start the conversation.
The silence ended when Izzy spoke up after looking at the near-empty pitcher. "I think we're going to need another pitcher," she said.
Trin was about to chime in, but Ashlyn beat her to it. "Are you trying to get me drunk?" she asked, laughing.
"Behave," Izzy said and laughed.
Trin noted Ivy nodded to Izzy's statement; looking around the table, Trin smiled. Izzy and Ivy looked over to Trin. Izzy, while still laughing, Trin noticed her eyes started to become sober.
"Now, for the reason, I asked us all here," Trin said.
Izzy's laugher died, and her face became hard. "If we have to," she said.
"I knew there was more than just drinks involved," Ivy said.
"I see you're starting to understand how the Adams girls think," Ashlyn said.
"The circles in circles?" Ivy asked.
"You've not spent time with Chase; she makes these look like amateur hour," Ashlyn said.
"Someone is more scheming than a congresswoman?" Ivy asked.
"You have to snap and plot in this life," Trin said.
"So, what is this all about, Trin?" Ashlyn asked.
Trin nodded and took another deep breath. She reached for her pint glass and took a deep draft. Carefully, she placed her glass down and looked each of the other women in the eye. "We're all here, as sort of a support group," Trin said.
"A support group, for what?" Ivy asked.
"My guess is for people who had relationships with Scotts," Ashlyn said, "I'm just surprised Brooke or Karen aren't here."
"Well, we don't want to scare Ivy off," Izzy said.
"I understand you and Izzy, Ashlyn, because of your last name. As for me, I know my reason, but I don't know yours, Trin," Ivy said.
"You've met my son," Trin said.
"Wyatt's a great young person," Ivy said.
"Wyatt's dad is a Scott, and he bears the Scott last name," Trin said.
Ivy looked strangely at Trin. "There's a story behind that," she said.
Trin nodded. "There is; we all have stories. We have or shall share, in due time," she said.
Ashlyn just nodded and took a sip of her beer. "So, we need a support group now?" she asked.
"I don't see how it could hurt," Trin said.
Izzy shrugged, "Most of us know each other's story, except you, Ivy. You don't know our story, and we don't know yours," she said.
"That's very true," Ivy said.
"My goal is to settle that," Trin said.
Ivy nodded, "Who's to say I want to share my story?" she asked.
Izzy shrugged her shoulders, picked up her pint, and took a long pull. "It's tit for tat; we all share," she said.
Ivy looked at Izzy, "Maybe, I don't want to hear your story, especially since you're a congresswoman," she said, turned to Ashlyn, "You're married to a star NBA player." Finally, Ivy turned to Trin, "And you're a vice-president of a fashion company."
Ashlyn leaned forward, "Not all our stories are ideal," she said.
Izzy reached out and rested a hand on Ashlyn's arm. This action calmed Ashlyn down a bit.
"How's that going to affect anything?" Ivy asked.
"I don't know," Izzy said.
"Ivy, all our stories are different, as each Scott is different, but there are similarities as well; I would think being forewarned is forearmed," Trin said.
"Ignorance is bliss," Ivy said.
"There is nothing wrong with hearing us out," Trin said.
"It's the Rubicon; once it's crossed, it can't be uncrossed," Ivy said.
"That's true," Ashlyn said.
"Look, I appreciate all this but, I know Kay can be difficult, but she's my difficult. No offense, I don't see how it would help, only hurt," Ivy said.
Izzy took a French fry and ate it. "She has a point," she said.
"Well, I wonder if Rerun could put the Miami game on," Ashlyn said.
Izzy looked at Trin and gave her a look. Izzy then grabbed her beer and finished her pint. After draining the glass, she reached over to the pitcher to refill her glass. "I think we're going to need another pitcher," Izzy said.
"Maybe, we should just use the time to get to know each other," Trin said.
Izzy signaled to Mina. Mina came over and looked over the table. "How can I help you?" Mina asked.
"May we get another pitcher?" Izzy asked.
"Sure, is there anything else?" Mina asked.
"When it's time, can we get the Miami Game on the TV?" Ashlyn asked.
Mina nodded, "I'll see what I could do," she said.
"Thank you," Ashlyn said.
"Thanks, Mina," Izzy said.
Mina nodded and went off. Izzy looked over the table. "Let's enjoy our time out, and even watch the basketball game," Izzy said.
"What more can we do?" Ashlyn asked and picked at the French fries.
"Well, I'm here until Sunday, so maybe you can point me out a few things to do," Ivy said.
"There are a few things, but it's the winter, and a lot of things are closed," Izzy said.
"I see; it's very touristy around here," Ivy said.
"College, port, and beach stuff, I'd say," Ashlyn said.
"Izzy, you don't sound like Ashlyn," Ivy said.
Izzy laughed, "I hope I don't; we're two different people," she said.
"No, no, I mean your accent, they don't match," Ivy said, "Ashlyn's accent is similar to Kay's."
Izzy laughed,
"What are you saying?" Ashlyn asked.
"Just you have different accents," Ivy said.
"That's because I'm not native here," Izzy said.
"Kay isn't either she was born in New York," Ashlyn said.
"But she was largely raised here, where I've spent a good chunk of my life north of here," Izzy said.
"How far north of here?" Ivy asked.
"New York City, I moved down here when I was sixteen," Izzy said.
"Really? I have to hear that story," Ivy said.
Izzy smiled and glanced over to make eye contact with Trin. "Sure," Izzy said.
"Okay," Ivy said.
"Well, buckle up," Izzy said.
