Chapter 285: Izzy's Story
Monday, January 30th, Evening
Izzy looked over to Trin, making eye contact. The younger sister gave the older one a slight nod. Izzy took a slightly deeper breath than expected and turned to face Ivy. "Sure," Izzy said.
"Okay," Ivy said.
Izzy took another subdue breath, just a little bit deeper than usual. She had to steel herself for the story she needed to tell. "Well, buckle up," Izzy said.
"Buckle up?" Ivy asked.
"Buckle up for the ride," Izzy said.
"What ride?" Ivy asked.
"Don't you know who she is?" Ashlyn asked, laughing.
"Representative Isabella Scott?" Ivy asked.
"Is that all you know?" Izzy asked.
"Is there more?" Ivy asked.
"Take a moment to google me; I can wait; we have all night," Izzy said.
Ivy pulled out her smartphone and did a quick search. Finally, she looked up from the phone. "Why does the name Isabella Davis pop up?" Ivy asked.
"Keep reading," Izzy said.
Ivy looked down again and scrolled through the search. Finally, she put down the smartphone. "They call you the model congresswoman?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah, they do; it started as a political slight," Izzy said.
"So, I figured out you were Isabella Adams, well because Trin's last name is Adams, but who is Isabella Davis?" Ivy asked.
"Look at her pictures," Izzy said.
Ivy sighed, frustrated, and picked up her smartphone. After a few seconds, she slammed the phone down. "No, fucking away," Ivy said.
Izzy nodded, "It's a long journey from teenage model to a US Congresswoman," she said.
"So, where does it start?" Ivy asked.
"Me returning to a pop-up club from General Central Terminal to find my sister had overdosed on Xanax," Izzy said.
"How do you overdose on Xanax?" Ivy asked.
"On purpose," Izzy said.
"On purpose?" Ivy asked.
"It was a vapid lifestyle, and she was unhappy, some other things happened, she chose to end it all. I got her to an ER and got our mom to come to the hospital. Chase pulled through and went to rehab, and well, I was grounded," Izzy said.
"So, was I," Trin said.
"Why were you grounded?" Ivy asked, looking at Trin.
"I covered for them," Trin said.
"Your mother is strict," Ivy said.
"It wasn't her first time coming to a hospital for Chase," Izzy said, "Well, our mom had been secretly planning our move here and just accelerated it. We finished the summer here and started public school for the first time in our lives."
"What was that like?" Ivy asked.
"Ever hear the saying the moment that everything changes?" Izzy asked.
"No," Ivy said.
"It's that moment where your life changes. Mine happened when the star basketball player walked into the tutoring center. He became my assignment. There were sparks from the beginning, but there was one catch, he had a girlfriend. I don't know about you, but I was taught never to be the side piece," Izzy said.
"I guess that's a solid piece of advice," Ivy said.
"Things kept getting too close to out of control. It all came to a head during a basketball game, where his girlfriend and I got into a fight on the baseline of the basketball court," Izzy said.
"How did that go over?" Ivy asked.
"Suspensions and she got into a car accident. She eventually broke up with him. Eventually, I started dating the basketball player, and everything was going well until I ended up pregnant," Izzy said.
"What happened?" Ivy asked.
"I had a son named Adam," Izzy said, "He was born in February and left us by the end of March."
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," Ivy said, "What happened afterward?"
"What did you expect to happen? Our strained relationship broke by Christmas during our freshman year in college. It didn't help that we were in different states," Izzy said.
"But you bounced back right, and eventually met your husband and found a career," Ivy said, "Right?"
"In a way, yes, but it took me years and a few good friends, but I did," Izzy said.
"So, there's more to the story," Ivy said.
"There is," Izzy said, "Trin decided to hide in New York, so I went up there to bring her back home."
"Why did you have to go to New York?" Ivy asked.
"That's best left to Trin to explain," Izzy said, "But I was sent up there with Fallon and my husband; well, he wasn't my husband at the time."
"You fell in love on that trip?" Ivy asked.
"Yes," Izzy said, "Afterwards we went back to our colleges and saw each other when we could. Then out of the blue, he showed up at my apartment in New Haven. It was a whirlwind weekend, and I'm pretty sure we conceived my daughter that weekend. After we graduated, we rushed to get married because he had to ship out."
"That's a great story," Ivy said.
"What?" Ashlyn asked.
"Well, the end of it was," Ivy said.
"Where is your husband nowadays?" Trin asked.
"He works at his parent's music label," Izzy said, "He got that job after college and helped grow it to where it is today. Right now, he's over in Europe."
"That's, well, with you working in DC? You don't get to see him much?" Ivy asked.
Izzy shrugged, "It's been tough since he's been in Europe, but well when he was home, I saw him four nights out of seven, unless he was on a business trip," she said.
"Does your husband know about your son in heaven?" Ivy asked.
Izzy looked over to Ashlyn, who just rolled her eyes. Ashlyn shook her head slightly and finished her beer, and looked at the empty pitcher.
Trin snickered and grabbed a French fry; Mina came over with their second pitcher of beer. She looked around the table and made eye contact with Ashlyn.
"Someone farted in a church; what happened?" Mina asked.
Trin was turning red from holding something back. "Ivy asked if Izzy's husband knew about Adam," she said.
"I'd say that's a cheek rumbler during a sermon," Mina said.
"Putting it lightly," Ashlyn said.
Izzy shrugged, "My husband has been the dad to all of my children," Izzy said.
"So, now I'm confused about your story," Ivy said.
"How so?" Izzy asked.
"You implied your first son was by the guy in high school," Ivy said.
"It wasn't implied because he is," Izzy said.
"So, who was the basketball player in high school?" Ivy asked.
"Keith Scott," Izzy said.
"So, you're telling me that your whole story was about…" Ivy said.
"Yes, my husband," Izzy said.
"Wow," Ivy said.
"So, it's your turn to share," Izzy said and looked at Ivy, who just nodded.
