Chapter 288: Trin's Story
Monday, January 30th, Evening
Trin sat and watched Ivy as she listened to the stories, first Izzy and now Ashlyn. Trin knew these two stories had somewhat happy trajectories. Ashlyn's content and Izzy's in the middle of the road since Keith and Izzy are strong personalities. Trin knew her story would be the sledgehammer.
Trin always thought Kay Scott and Brian Scott were, at least in personality, the most alike of the Scott cousins. Both were rather shy by nature, but when they found their talent, something inflated their egos and personalities, bringing out the darker parts of their Scott nature and characters.
"Some story," Ivy said, snapping Trin out of her thoughts, "So, you seem to have a good relationship with your husband."
Yeah, what about the fact, Ashlyn, you live as a legally separated couple? James lives in Miami during the NBA Season. Ashlyn just shrugged at Ivy's statement and sipped her beer.
"Not everything is as it seems," Trin said, trying to bring out that Ashlyn sugar-coated her story.
"So, true," Ivy said, seeming to agree with Trin.
Ashlyn looked at Trin. Ashlyn's eyes said it all. Trin needed to know how Ashlyn felt. Ashlyn's eyes said, 'you bitch.' "You have to share your story now," Ashlyn said, cold as ice. Trin knew she was stuck, and she had seen what happens when you cross the she-bear.
"Why?" Trin asked, trying to make it look like she didn't want to share.
Ashlyn leaned forward just so slightly. Ashlyn's mouth curled up only so slightly, almost just enough to hint she was showing off her fangs. "Because we all shared," Ashlyn said.
"Yeah, Trin," Ivy said, now seemingly backing the blonde woman.
Trin noticed that Izzy nodded. Sometimes Izzy could be the most frustrating of her sisters. "Go ahead, tell them about New York," Izzy said. Was Izzy trying to help Trin's cause or hurt it?
Trin sighed, "Fine," she said and closed her eyes. Where to start, where to tell it from, and start at what point. Trin opened her eyes and grabbed her pint glass. Trin took a deep draught of her beer, nearly finishing the liquid in the glass. Slowly, Trin put the glass down on the table.
"You couldn't finish that little?" Izzy asked.
"I didn't want to," Trin said, looking at her sister, cooly.
"I can't wait to hear your story," Ivy said to Trin.
Trin nodded, "My Scott was Brian, James Scott's little brother. We were sort of high school sweethearts, but we never really dated. There was a third party in this whole situation, named Gabi," she said.
"Why does the name Brian Scott sound familiar?" Ivy asked.
"Ever hear of Mental Lapse?" Trin asked.
"A rock band with the lead singer would wear no shirt and leather pants?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah, that sounds like Brian," Izzy said.
"So, your boyfriend was a rock star," Ivy stated.
"Boyfriend is sort of a strong word, we kind of never committed to each other, and there was always Gabi," Trin said.
"What happened to not being the girl on the side?" Ivy asked.
"Call it my rebellious phase," Trin said, shrugged, and took a sip of her beer.
"Why tolerate his shit?" Ivy asked.
"I was a bitch back then," Trin said.
"Then?" Izzy asked.
"Anyway, Brian didn't go to college, Mental Lapse went on tour and even went to Europe. I went to NYU and lived with my sister Fallon. Brian went on tour again; at the time, I didn't know he was keeping Gabi on the side back here in Tree Hill. A few times, Brian came through New York City, and we would spend time together," Trin said.
"What did you do when you found out he still saw Gabi as well?" Ivy asked.
Trin sighed, fidgeted with a napkin, and finally took a sip of her beer.
"Tell her, Trin," Izzy said.
"Do I have to?" Trin asked.
"Yes," Izzy said.
Ashlyn turned to look them over and sipped her beer. Ivy turned to Ashlyn, "You're quiet here," Ivy said.
"I was at Duke, and later Atlanta, so everything I know is just hearsay, rumor, and innuendo," Ashlyn said.
"Oh!" Ivy said, and looked at the struggling Trin, "So, what happened?"
Trin sighed, took another sip of her beer, finally finishing the pint. "I did nothing," Trin said, "I had an idea, but I did nothing. It became a competition. One day I was out jogging and ended up running into Brian as he was sneaking away."
"Accidently running into him?" Izzy asked.
"Okay, accidentally on purpose, but I did run into him, and he invited me to join me on this trip. He talked me into it, just as it started to rain. We ended up spending a week in a rented house in Gulf Shores, Alabama; I don't know how he pulled that off. Anyway, I needed clothes, and come to find out, I mostly just needed a bikini since when we weren't on the bench, we were naked. The result was when I got back, my mom took away some things, and I was pregnant," Trin said.
"So, how does this tie in with Izzy having to get you in New York City?" Ivy asked.
"Patience," Trin said, "After I got off restriction, yes, I was on restriction as an adult, as my mom put it, my roof my rules, and I pay for this stuff. Well, I packed a bag, borrowed a set of keys, an EZ Pass, and went to New York City, where I wanted to be. I stopped at Fallon's place to get some more clothes but went to this small apartment on the West Side my mom kept and hid there. I spent most of my time visiting a nearby church or in various parks reading a book," Trin said.
"What book?" Ivy asked.
"Interesting detail to ask about. It was about being an expected single mom, or something like that; it was my mom's book. At any rate, Izzy and Keith found me and brought me back here. My mom put me into therapy. Did I mention Gabi was also pregnant?" Trin said.
"No, you didn't," Ivy said, "How did you and Brian react?"
"Brian wanted Gabi and I to live with him as some harem and raise our children collectively," Trin said.
"What the fuck?" Ivy asked.
"Yeah, exactly what I thought, and I told him her or me, but not both," Trin said, "He chose both and kept trying to get me into his harem."
"What did you do?" Ivy asked.
"That fall, heavily pregnant, I returned to New York City, living with Fallon, gave birth to my son, started working for my mom, and finished my schooling," Trin said.
"Wow, are you some sort of wonder woman?" Ivy asked.
"No, just a lot of love and support," Trin said.
"That's good, I guess," Ivy said.
"Support," Izzy laughed, "Trin is such a go-getter she moved up in the company and lives on the Upper East Side."
"Nice," Ivy said and looked away.
Trin noticed Izzy looked at Ivy differently. "What's on your mind, Ivy?" Izzy asked.
"Can you tell me something about Kay?" Ivy asked.
Victory! Trin reflected.
"Sure, I can do my best," Izzy said.
"Tell me what you know about her accident," Ivy said.
Ashlyn's face took a sour expression. Izzy's face became drawn and pale. Trin knew this could be what she wanted or could be not what she wanted. There were only two ways this could end up. "Oh, Boy!" Trin said.
"I'll try my best," Izzy said, low, plainly, and nervously.
