Chapter 301: Trin and Rerun
Monday, January 30th, Evening
Trin looked across the table at the woman known as the she-bear. Of course, no one called Ashlyn she-bear to her face; they knew better. Ashlyn smiled, which showed her unusually big fangs.
"So, Trin," Ashlyn said.
"Ashlyn," Trin said.
"So, this support group idea," Ashlyn said. What's she getting at? Trin thought.
"Good idea," Trin said.
"If you want to break up a relationship," Ashlyn said. What did Ashlyn suspect? Trin thought.
"Who? Me?" Trin asked.
"Yes, you, and dragged Izzy and me into this," Ashlyn said. The bear is awake, Trin thought.
"I just felt she would benefit from our experience," Trin said.
"Especially yours," Ashlyn said pointedly.
"If it helps, why not?" Trin asked.
Ashlyn studied Trin carefully, her teeth still bared. Trin noted that Ashlyn had found a toothpick and was picking the remains of snacks out of her fangs. "Well, for one, Kay isn't Brian. Sure, she's a bit closed off, but she's got the worst introvert behavior from both sides. Secondly, Brian was just a spoiled jerk with ego issues," Ashlyn said.
"Brian is a Scott; they all act like that," Trin said.
"Kay acts like that?" Ashlyn asked.
"Yeah, she does," Trin said.
"I've only seen it when it comes to basketball," Ashlyn said.
"Behavior on the court translates to behavior off the court," Trin said.
Ashlyn grabbed her pint glass tightly. "Don't use my words against me," Ashlyn said.
"Hurts, doesn't it," Trin said.
"Not as much as somethings," Ashlyn said, her voice even but carried the hint of a threat. Trin knew not to cross Ashlyn. This woman coldly broke another woman's nose with a smile. Animals in Australia would run from Ashlyn.
"Going to break my nose?" Trin asked. Oh, fuck Trinity, why did you say that? Trin asked herself.
"Did I say that?" Ashlyn asked calmly. Which isn't a good sign, Trin thought.
"No, but you implied that," Trin said.
"I did no such thing," Ashlyn said. Trin was are you messing with the she-bear.
"I call bullshit on that one," Trin said, being defiant and pissing off the she-bear.
"How do you call bullshit on that one?" Ashlyn asked.
"Mina, can you give us a ruling on something?" Trin asked as she saw Mina walking over.
"What, Trin?" Mina asked, exasperated.
"I said hurts, doesn't it, and Ashlyn said not as much as somethings," Trin said.
"Yeah, so?" Mina asked with a shrug.
"Coming from Ashlyn, does that constitute a threat?" Trin asked.
"Are you referring to the rumor where Ashlyn broke Daria Churchill's nose?" Mina asked, sounding annoyed.
"Yes, it is," Trin said.
Mina sighed, "I was at that party," she said, "Daria was drunk, tried getting in Ashlyn's face, tripped, and broke her nose."
"What? That's not how I remember it?" Trin said.
"That's how I remember it, with Kay, James, and Ashlyn carrying a completely plastered Angela out of the house," Mina said.
"Yep, she was totally wasted that night, puking off the deck," Ashlyn said.
"I wonder if she's learned to hold her alcohol?" Mina asked.
"Yes, she has," Ashlyn said.
Trin looked at Ashlyn. "Really? Neither of you are going to admit you broke Daria's nose?" she asked.
"Why cop to something I didn't do?" Ashlyn asked.
"Fine," Trin said, in a huff, "I'm going to ask Rerun," she said, stood up, and walked away.
"Please remind Rerun to change the TV to the Miami game," Ashlyn said as Trin walked away.
Trin shook her head, walked into the front room, and went to the bar. Rerun looked across the bar at Trin.
"No, I didn't forget to change the channel to the Miami game," Rerun said.
"Thanks, I do have a question for you," Trin said.
"No, Trin, I don't need another server," Rerun said.
"Not that," Trin said.
"Then what?" Rerun asked, confused.
"Did Ashlyn break Daria Churchill's nose?" Trin asked.
Rerun looked at Trin. "Of course, she did; it's almost as the cheerleader brawl," Rerun said.
"I knew it; she's fucking with me," Trin said.
"What? Who?" Rerun asked.
"Ashlyn denied she broke Daria's nose," Trin said.
"Eh! Just messing with you," Rerun said.
Trin nodded, "Have you and Candi talked yet?" she asked.
"She's not talked to me since my junior year, that I recall," Rerun said.
"Do you blame her?" Trin asked.
"No, I acted like an ass back then," Rerun said.
"I'm surprised she's never come here; this place is great," Trin said.
Rerun shook his head, "There's one big problem with her coming here," he said.
"That would be?" Trin asked.
"That would be me," Rerun said.
"If I could Candi into this bar, what would you do?" Trin asked.
"Nothing, since its moot point if she'll even come here," Rerun said.
"Let's just say I could manage that; what would you do?" Trin asked.
"If you do pull off that miracle, I will apologize for my behavior," Rerun said.
"That's all?" Trin asked.
"Yes, that's all. I'm happily married with a great son," Rerun said.
"I thought you've tried apologizing before?" Trin asked.
"I've tried, but Candi doesn't respond, even rejected all my friend's request," Rerun said.
"Sounds like someone is holding a grudge," Trin said.
"You think, Trin," Rerun said.
"Yeah, well, she's stubborn," Trin said.
"She's a Scott," Rerun said.
"True," Trin said.
The front door opened, Trin and Rerun looked at the open door. Izzy and Ivy came inside the bar. Izzy had her arm around Ivy, and Ivy had her arm over Izzy's shoulder. The two women moved through the front room and went right back to the table.
"I wonder what that's all about?" Trin asked.
"I don't know," Rerun said, "The tall girl looks perturbed when she walked out of here a few minutes ago," Rerun said.
"Who says perturbed anymore?" Trin asked.
"I do," Rerun said.
"I guess you're the only one," Trin said.
"I guess I am," Rerun said.
"Yeah, don't forget to change the channel to the Miami game," Trin said.
"I won't," Rerun said.
Trin shook her head and headed back towards the table in the back room.
