Chapter 309: Jamlyn
Tuesday, January 31st, Morning
The morning came early and unwanted for Ashlyn this morning. Rolling out of bed, she could hear one of her children already moving around the house. Ashlyn walked to the window and pulled open the curtains; she took in the rising sun over the Atlantic Ocean.
Turning away from the window and headed to her bathroom. After a nice hot shower, Ashlyn returned to her bedroom and got dressed for the day. Once dressed, she headed down to the kitchen and found Maeghan sitting at the table.
"Morning, Maeghan," Ashlyn said.
"Morning, Momma," Maeghan said.
Ashlyn went to the cabinet and opened it up. Looking through it, she turned to Maeghan. "What cereal would you like for breakfast?" Ashlyn asked.
"Do we have my usual?" Maeghan asked.
"Yes, we do," Ashlyn said.
"That, please," Maeghan said.
Ashlyn sighed and made Maeghan her breakfast. Once she fed her daughter, Ashlyn used her Kuerig to make herself a cup of coffee. As she made up her coffee, she hoped for a few sips before the twins came down, and she'd have to make their breakfast.
She got most of her wish; as she took her second sip, the two twins arrived in the kitchen. Ashlyn put down her coffee and made up breakfast for her twin sons. Once they settled in, she started drinking her coffee.
"Momma," Maeghan said.
"Yes, Maeghan," Ashlyn said.
"You have a game tonight," Maeghan said.
"Yes, how do you know?" Ashlyn said.
"You're wearing your coaching clothes," Maeghan said.
Ashlyn nodded, "Yes, we have a game tonight. Also, there's something big going on today," she said.
"So, what's happening tonight?" Maeghan asked.
"After school, Eilish will bring you and your brothers to the game," Ashlyn said.
"But, Momma, you said something big is going to happen today," Maeghan said.
Ashlyn nodded, "Yes, there's going to be a ceremony today for a team I played on in high school," she said.
"Is that's why Auntie Tall is here?" Maeghan asked.
Ashlyn nodded, "Yes, that's why Auntie Tall is in town," she said.
"So, we're going to the game tonight," Maeghan said.
"Yes, we are," Ashlyn said.
"Do I have to?" Maeghan asked
Ashlyn nodded, "Yes, Maeghan, you have to," she said.
"I don't want to go," Maeghan said.
Ashlyn sighed, time for her least favorite game-day tradition. Maeghan usually didn't fuss, except on game day. She usually wanted to do anything but go to the basketball games.
"I have nowhere to send you other than the game," Ashlyn said.
"It's no fair," Maeghan said.
"The season will be over soon," Ashlyn said.
"Momma," Logan said.
"Yes, Logan?" Ashlyn asked.
"Are we going to see Papa Nathan tonight?" Logan asked.
"Of course, we are; he'll be there," Ashlyn said.
"How about Daddy?" Landen asked.
"He's got a game tomorrow, so he's still in Miami," Ashlyn said.
"When will he be home?" Landen asked.
"Hopefully, in a few weeks for the all-star break," Ashlyn said.
"This sucks; Daddy should be home," Logan said.
"Well, eat up; you're going to be late for school," Ashlyn said.
"Yes, Momma," Maeghan said.
"Yes, Momma," Logan said.
"Yes, Momma," Landen said.
Ashlyn finished her coffee. She cleaned up as the kids finished up their breakfast. Ashlyn herded the three kids out of the house and to her car.
They left Jamlyn and headed over to Raven Hill, where Ashlyn dropped the kids off. Leaving Raven Hill, Ashlyn looked out the windshield. Today is going to be a long day.
Finally, Ashlyn arrived at the high school; she parked in the teachers' parking lot. Getting out of her car, she grabbed her briefcase and headed towards the school. Once she was in the school, a few students saw her coming down the hallway.
"Good morning, Mrs. Pierce-Scott," one of the students said.
"Good morning, Ken," Ashlyn said.
Ashlyn went to the girls' locker room and changed into her gym gear. She went up to the second floor and the weight room, where she found an empty weight machine, put a few weight plates on it and took a seat.
She needed to strengthen her knees. Ashlyn started to do leg curls. Her good leg went through its reps without much stress or pain; the bad knee showed how bad it felt.
Ashlyn started to sweat. There was only one other time her knee bothered her this bad; it was her senior year of high school.
The fortunate thing is she's not playing ball anymore. Ashlyn had time to get it fixed. She knew it would be time to get it fixed. Ashlyn knew it would be time for new parts, as the knee cap was wearing away. That's why she strengthened her legs because she knew she needed surgery.
Once she finished her reps, she got up and cleaned up the machine. Ashlyn dried her face as she left the gym and headed back to the locker room. Ashlyn showered again and dressed for work.
Leaving the locker room, she headed to the guidance office. Ashlyn unlocked her office and took a seat behind her desk. Opening her briefcase, and took out the work she needed to do.
There was a knock on the door. Ashlyn looked up to see the principal standing in the door.
"Yes, Glenda?" Ashlyn asked.
"How are you doing, Ashlyn?" Glenda Farrell asked.
"One day at a time, like any other day," Ashlyn said.
"Are you set tonight?" Glenda asked.
"The ceremony is a distraction I don't need for the game tonight," Ashlyn said.
Glenda chuckled. "You're only thinking about the game?" she asked.
"Glenda, I'm a coach of the current team, honoring the old team is a sideshow," Ashlyn said.
"You were always a spirited one, even when you were a student," Glenda said.
"Look, Glenda, I think this is a dirty thing they're doing," Ashlyn said.
"What do you mean?" Glenda asked.
"We have twelve girls that bust their butts off every day and every game trying to have the best season they could. They do this dog and pony show and bring back these old players, set up this ceremony before the game; why? Probably to get people down here; I find it disrespectful to our current girls," Ashlyn said.
"Does any of this have to do with the fact one of those said girls' is your daughter?" Glenda asked.
"Not totally, but she doesn't need to be in my shadow any more than she is," Ashlyn said.
"Well, your objection is noted, have a good day, and I'll see you at the game tonight," Glenda said.
"See you tonight, Glenda," Ashlyn said. The principal left Ashlyn's door, and Ashlyn wondered did she go too far.
