Chapter 1

[Viridian City]

It has been a couple of days since the 3 teens left Royal Woods. Lynn set their destination to the Indigo Plateau port, because if they failed their test then this would be one of the only times they would see it. Lynn was obviously hoping they would fail so she can take them back and then register for Kanto's gym challenge. However she would keep her promise and look after the 2 should they pass. She knew Lincoln would most likely enter Kanto from either Vermilion City, Lavender Town, Fuchsia City, or Cinnabar Island. He stopped by Virbank City to see Roxie before coming here, so he would've likely come to Kanto by boat. Which meant she wouldn't run into him any time soon, since whether the 2 passed or not she was planning on starting here in Viridian City.

Lynn was waiting outside of one of the Kanto League buildings, it had been a couple of hours since Clyde and Ronnie Anne went inside to take their test. While she waited outside with her Lycanroc, she saw many people leave who had also taken the test. Some left happy and excited, while some were saddened and depressed, and a few were frustrated and angry. She was debating whether to go grab some to eat while she waited, but the 2 she was waiting for exited the building. Both of them had huge smiles on their faces, which caused a frown to appear on hers.

"Yes we did! We're officially Pokemon Trainers!" Ronnie Anne shouted while holding her trainer license to the world.

"Just be sure not to lose that, I hear getting replaced is hard and a pain" Lynn said to her with a grunt. "Since you're now trainers we should register for the gym challenge."

"Wait, when do we get our starter Pokemon?" Ronnie Anne asked, confused. "Aren't we supposed to get a Pokemon from some professor?"

Lynn and Clyde looked at each other before Lynn burst out laughing and Clyde facepalmed. "Ronnie Anne, did you even read about the ways people could get a trainers license?"

"There's more than one way?" She asked with a blank stare. Lynn meanwhile continues to laugh and hold her stomach.

"Yes there is," Clyde replied with a sigh. "There's taking the test like we just did, but there's also getting sponsored by a League official or region's professor. Some can even get a license if their job requires them to have Pokemon to help them like law enforcement or privately owned moving companies. Also people who work directly on Pokemon like breeders or nurses at pokemon centers."

"The way you're thinking about is being sponsored," Lynn said in between laughs. "You two aren't so you only get your license, a pokeball to catch your starter with, and a sum of money." After stopping her laughter and catching her breath, she put on a serious expression. "Also you need to remember that any Pokemon you catch, you'll have to carry and be responsible to care for. Such as food, keeping them healthy, and anything else related to them. So you shouldn't just go catching every Pokemon you see, think about it and seriously think about if that Pokemon will help you now or down the road."

"So we'll do the exact same thing Lincoln does," Clyde said with Ronnie Anne nodding in encouragement.

"Like he used to," the older trainer said. "Me and Linc don't have to worry about that anymore. Roxie got it so Professor Juniper in Unova takes care of our Pokemon. We pay her so much for how many Pokemon she takes care of every month. So we only have to look after the six we carry." After hearing that Clyde nodded in understatement, Ronnie Anne gritted her teeth in annoyance.

"So how did you get your starter?" Ronnie Anne asked, annoyed.

"Linc let me borrow one of his to catch mine" Lynn replied simply.

"Any chance you'll do the same for us?" Clyde asked nervously.

"Look I would because I'm supposed to be mentoring you two, but…" the Loud teen started, scratching the back of her head with a frown. "...I doubt any of my Pokemon would listen to either of you. Even if I tell them to, I seriously doubt they would still listen. However there are a few ways you can catch something. First choice is there's another League office we can go to, they'll rent you a Pokemon to catch your first but you'll have to pay a fee and they'll hold onto your license to ensure they get the Pokemon back. Second choice is you can try your luck and throw your pokeball at a Pokemon and hope for the best. Third choice is you can buy a Pokemon from an official breeder, but with the amount you have your best bet would be to buy from an black market breeder."

"What's the difference?" The young Santiago asked in confusion.

"Official breeders are recognized by the League," Lynn replied, making sure both teens were listening. "They are paid by the League and all their Pokemon are well taken care of. They are friendly with humans and are perfect for trainers, places that use Pokemon as workers, or as family and pets. Black market breeders don't have a license to breed Pokemon and are not approved by the League. Most of the time they're trainers trying to breed stronger Pokemon, they sell the rejects to earn extra money. How well they take care of the Pokemon is unknown and there's no guarantee the Pokemon will listen to you. However they often sell hard to find Pokemon and Pokemon from different regions, so you'll be gambling if you buy from them but it might be worth the risk."

Both teens thought about their options before Clyde spoke first. "If we did go to a breeder, would you be willing to help us buy one? Maybe let us borrow the money and we pay you back?"

Lynn thought about it a bit before answering. "Depending on the price, I'm willing to pay half the cost. It does no good to either of you to instantly be in debt at the beginning of your journey. But that's all I'm willing to do, if you want to rent a Pokemon then I'll pay for that."

"Does that include black market breeders?" Ronnie asked.

"Yeah it does," Lynn replied with a raised eyebrow. "You got a Pokemon in mind that you want Santiago?"

"Something like that" she replied with a smirk.

Lynn simply rolled her eyes at the young girl. "Whatever, but before we do anything I want to get registered for the gym challenge. So we'll go to the pokecenter first to do that and find where the local official breeder is. Then we'll go get Mcbride his Pokemon first, since I believe he wants to go to an official breeder."

Clyde let out a small cheer of excitement while Ronnie Anne frowned. "Why are we getting Clyde's Pokemon first?"

"Because I'm going to need to talk to people to find someone for you" Lynn replied in annoyance. "Don't worry I'll find someone, but it will take some time. That's why I say we'll go get Clyde's first, it will give me time to look around. Now let's get going." Lynn then started walking away with the 2 new trainers following her.
