AN: Just want anyone that reads this now, I might not update this story very soon. It's because I want to think about how I want the journey to Cerulean City to go. Not a simple something on each routes and Mt. Moon, then there in Cerulean City. I'm thinking about rewatching the anime and maybe replaying the game for inspiration. So if I don't update this story for a long time then it's either that, or something to do with life.

Chapter 9
[Outside Pewter Gym]
"You may be considered adults here because you got your Trainer Licenses…" Lynn said sternly looking down at her 2 students. "...However, if either of you do something like that again, I will treat you like children." Her eyes then focus on the other female trainer. "Next time you want to go for a walk outside of the city or town we're in, let me know so I can have one of my Pokemon shadow you from a distance."
"Yes mom" Ronnie Anne snarked with an eye roll. Clyde could only shake his head in disappointment at his friend's snarky reply.
"My job is to look out for you guys" Lynn started while glaring at the darker skin girl. "If one of you gets hurt, then I'm not the only one getting in trouble. I have no doubt that if either of your parents heard one of you getting hurt, both would come here and drag both of you back to Royal Woods." Both teens had an expression of realization on their faces, knowing the older girl was most likely right. "Once you get a few more badges and your Pokemon are stronger, then you can go to more places on your own. Until then you'll tell me anytime you want to go out of the cities or towns we're in, you understand?" Both nodded in agreement and Lynn stopped her glare and let out a sigh. "Now that's been settled…" She focused back on Ronnie Anne, eyes and voice softer than they were a minute ago. "...Are you completely certain that you want to keep that Poochyena that attacked you? Remember you'll have to take care of it with your Nidoran."
"Yes I'm certain" Ronnie Anne replied with a smile. "I can tell just from our little battle that she's a fighter. She could be stronger if I train properly."
"So it was a girl," Clyde said to himself before asking his fellow trainer a question. "Are you sure you want to use her for the gym battle though? When you let her out after she was healed up, she didn't look too pleased with you."
"Clyde has a point" the red wearing young woman added in. "Poochyena are native to the Hoenn Region, which means someone abandoned/released it here or it's a reject of someone trying to breed a specific Pokemon. Either option means that she might have trouble trusting humans, which means that she might not follow your orders."
"I understand, but I got a good feeling about her," the teen girl replied to both of her companions. "Beside being a trainer is all about building trust between trainer and Pokemon right? It just might take me a little longer with Poochyena." Clyde smiled and nodded in agreement, while Lynn had a look of uncertainty. "Now let's get inside so I can have my rematch!" Ronnie walked in with a grin on her face, with Clyde following her inside.
Once inside they were greeted by Brock. "Welcome to the Pewter Gym" he greeted in a friendly tone and smile. "I'm assuming someone's here for a rematch?"
"Definitely, also I have two Pokemon now" Ronnie Anne with a confident look on her face.
"Well let me scan your license and then we can get started" Brock requested. She did and got into position for the battle. Brock went to the back to get the proper Pokemon and referee, while Lynn and Clyde took seats in the stands. Brock and the referee came from the back and got into place.
"This is an official match between Brock of the Pewter City Gym and Ronnie Anne Santiago from Great Lakes City." The referee's voice was loud, clear, and echoed throughout the building. "Both trainers will be able to use two Pokemon, with only the challenger being able to switch out Pokemon. The battle is over when both of someone's Pokemon is unable to battle or one forfeits. The match begins now."
"Come out Bonsly" Brock called out, letting out the Bonsai Pokemon.
"Let's go Poochyena" Ronnie Anne said, letting out the Bite Pokemon. However, said Pokemon, after looking to see where she was, started to growl at anything and everything.
"Where did you catch that Poochyena?" Brock asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Just outside of Pewter City" Ronnie Anne replied honestly. "She was leading a group of Rattatas' and they attacked me. I scared the Rattatas' away and caught her."
"I see, now I understand," Brock said, while figuring out something else. "Officer Jenny was receiving reports of a group of wild Pokemon attacking travelers coming to and leaving Pewter City." A smile grew on his face "Looks like you helped solve a problem that was plaguing the city." His expression went back to serious "Now I think it's time to start the battle, Bonsly use Rock Throw!"
"Poochyena dodge and use Bite" Ronnie Anne shouted. Poochyena however growled at her and did something different. It did successfully dodge the attack, but instead of using Bite she used Sand Attack by kicking dirt from the battlefield. The Sand Attack causes Bonsly to stop and clear the debris from its eyes. Poochyena then used Mud Slap on it by digging into the ground, digging up dirt that turned into mud, and flung it at her target. The attack caused a lot of damage to Bonsly, but the Bite Pokemon wasn't finished. She then ran up to her opponent and used Bite on it. The Bonsai Pokemon shook and moved to try to get the it's opponent to let go, but was unsuccessful.
"Quickly Bonsly use Flail!" Brock shouted, seeing the situation his Pokemon was in. Bonsly then started to flail about while causing Poochyena damage.
"Poochyena let it go and put some distance between you two" Ronnie called out, only for the Bite Pokemon to ignore her. Poochyena only let out a growl and continued to bite her opponent. "Hey come on, let go! Can't you see your getting hurt by its flailing?" Clyde looked shocked at the Pokemon not listening to Ronnie Anne, while Lynn and Brock frowned at the scene having an idea of what was going on. Eventually the Bonsai Pokemon could only take so much and fainted from the constant attack.
"Bonsly is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Poochyena." Brock frowned at this, Ronnie Anne was flabbergasted and confused at her Pokemon, Clyde could believe what he just saw, and finally Lynn narrowed her eyes and frowned at the Bite Pokemon.
"It seems like Poochyena doesn't like to listen to others," Brock commented while studying the Pokemon.
"Yeah, I just caught her yesterday so we didn't really build any trust yet" Ronnie replied, embarrassed by how her Pokemon was acting. "Lynn thinks she might have been abandoned or a reject of an unofficial breeder."
Hearing that caused Brock to become angry. "Yes, that certainly might explain how she's acting," Brock agreed with the theory. "Well let's continue, come out Nosepass." Said Pokemon was released and became the focus of Poochyena. "Nosepass use Thunder Wave!"
"Poochyena dodge that" Ronnie Anne shouted, only for her to ignore her trainer and charge towards the Rock Pokemon. The Thunder Wave hit her and became paralyzed on the spot.
"Now use Power Gem" Nosepass' nose started to glow before firing a bright beam at Poochyena, sending her across the field. Ronnie Anne asked if she was okay, only for the stubborn Pokemon to continue to ignore her and struggle to get up. She was then hit with another Power Gem and this knocked her out.
"Poochyena is unable to battle," the referee announced. "The winner is Nosepass." Ronnie Anne recalled Poochyena, a little upset and frustrated with how her Pokemon acted. However she shook it off to focus on the match. "It's your turn Nidoran" she shouted, throwing the pokeball that released said Pokemon. "Start things off with a Double Kick!"
"Nosepass stop it with Thunder Wave" Brock ordered. The Compass Pokemon charged and fired the electric attack, only for Nidoran to dodge it. The Poison Pin Pokemon then unleashed the flurry of kicks on its opponent, causing Nosepass to stumble back.
"Keep the pressure on Nidoran!" Said Pokemon moved closer to her opponent to continue her assault.
"Nosepass use Harden and Spark!" Nosepass body started to lightly glow while electricity surrounded it's body and it moved to tackle it's opponent. Nidoran stopped and prepared for the oncoming attack. When both attacks met, it caused a small explosion that sent both Pokemon backwards. Both struggled to get up, with Nidoran having a bit more due to being paralyzes.
"We need to finish it now!" Ronnie Anne encouraged. The Poison Pin Pokemon fought through the paralysis and charged towards the Compass Pokemon. Nosepass used Harden to prepare for the oncoming attack. Nidoran Double Kick Nosepass, and that was all it could take, and it fainted.
"Nosepass is unable to battle" the referee announced while holding his hand on Ronnie Anne's side up in the air. "Nidoran is the winner and Ronnie Anne has won the match." Ronnie Anne immediately ran to pick up Nidoran and celebrate, Clyde stood up from his seat cheering, and Lynn smiled at the girl. Brock recalled his Nosepass and smiled at his young challenger.
"You certainly fought hard," Brock said as he approached the young trainer. "While it seems like you'll need to train with your Poochyena more, you and your Nidoran bond and trust is certainly strong and likely to get stronger. So it is my pleasure to give you a Boulder Badge." He pulled one out of his pocket and held it to him.
"Thank you" Ronnie Anne said as she accepted the badge with a wide grin. She stood in place looking at her newly acquired badge, but was brought back to reality by the voice of her mentor/guardian.
"Now that you got your badge, let's go stock up on supplies before moving on" Lynn said from behind the younger girl.
"Where are you headed to next?" Brock asked curiously.
"Cerulean City, after that who knows" Lynn replied nonchalantly.
"Cerulean huh, then let me give you a friendly tip" Brock told them with a friendly smile. "The Cerulean Gym is a Water Gym and its Gym Leader is no pushover."
"Thanks for the tip, it will really help us out" Clyde replied with a smile.
"It's no problem, stay safe and good luck on your journey" Brock said to them. The 3 trainers then left the gym to resupply and then start the trek towards Cerulean City.
